I really enjoyed this video. Seeing Mum, going to Scotland which is where my family are from. Hearing about kilt making. I used to wear a kilt my Dad was in a pipe band he played the bagpipes my brother played drums and my twin sister and I danced. How lovely to be in a room with other crafters that was fun. Fabulous photography too. Thank you so much ❤
I've forgotten Carol, where are you from? How wonderful about the kilts and pipe band. I shall pass that on to my friends, they will be thrilled to hear it. xx
I believe that this is the best video I have ever seen. Your friends are all so skilled with their crafts, the quilt is beautiful. I agree that your Mum and Dorothy would be great friends. They are both absolutely lovely women. Many of your frames would make lovely pictures. The fallen tree that was sending up all those branches was amazing and I liked your friend imitating the branch above her. After watching how you notice such beauty in nature encourages me to stop and look when I go outside. The accompanying music suited so well. Thank you for showing me sites and scenery that I would never see otherwise.
Oh Deborah, that comment brought a tear to my eye. Such lovely words. Thank you so much. I was amazed to the see the fallen tree and Heather has such a sense of humour its refreshing. We didn't make it to the middle of the maze! So happy you enjoyed it. xx
Good morning Penelope, A really lovely episode! Thank you for sharing your trip to Scotland with us. Your friends are really talented crafters, creativity is a lifelong joy ❤ Have a cosy Sunday!
Hi Pene. So glad you had a lovely break away. What a perfect combination of good friends and crafty time. Thankyou for sharing. I've spent some time this afternoon with my best friend of 50 years. She's a beautiful hand stitcher and sewist. She is making her way through all the luna lapin creatures. Up and down week with dad. 🌷🥰
So sorry to hear it's still up and down with dad, but lovely to spend time with old friends and craft, nothing like it for helping us to relax for a time. Thanks for watching and commenting. xx
What a lovely journey you have had and it was so nice to listen to Dorothy reminiscing Thanks for taking us along to share your holiday.lovely crafts too the macarons are really cute I’ll have to check out the supplies and make some. Take care 😊❤
Thank you so very much for taking us along on your trip to Scotland. I loved every minute of it. I was particularly thrilled to see Dorothy’s framed embroidery. I think that I did the exact same counted cross stitch of the three little birds about forty or forty-five years ago for my mother. I also always really, really enjoy your pictures and little video clips of birds. I fancy myself a bit of a hobby birder, but I certainly am not a very good photographer of birds. I do so enjoy seeing your pictures. Until the next time. Salam wa sa’aadah
Thanks Linda, I loved every minute of my trip! How lovely that you did the same cross stitch for your mum. I agree seeing the birds is beautiful, naming them not so easy! Thanks for watching, see you next time. xx
Thank you for sharing your journey with us! This was an extra special episode for sure. Incredible photography, lovely scenery, and sweet souvenirs. Was intending to comment earlier but my mom (84yrs) suffered a stroke. Not much me time right now, which is ok. She deserves help. Will wait for a quiet time to savor your next episode. The sloth looks adorable! Thanks for your postings. They always cheer me up. 😊
Hi Ronna, So glad you enjoyed the episode but so sorry your mum has had a stroke. Happy also that my episodes give you a little bit of cheer. Our mums deserve help like you say; special time to spend with them even though at times it is difficult. Glad you are finding quiet times for yourself, so important. Take care this week.
Ooh Florida, what's the weather like. Too blowy and chilly here to get into the garden but at the least it's stopped raining and is sunny. What part of Scotland? I hope to go again in the not too distant future.
@@penelopeschinwag the weather here in Florida is beautiful in the winter but horribly hot in the summer….too much humidity. I rather like a change of seasons. I was born in Pennsylvania. My grandmother was born in Edinburgh, my grandfather is Scottish but was born in Ireland. My grandmother, Bessie, handmade me a kilt but unfortunately I gave it to a charity shop before I knew better. She was an excellent seamstress. I always looked very fashionable as a child. She even sewed lace on my undies! She also made matching outfits for my Barbie doll.
What a nice, full trip you had! Lovely video. It must have been especially nice to travel with a friend. Very smart to have wipes to clean the surfaces. Too many germs out there, and not just the big C. (I make sure to wipe down shopping carts, too.) 👍 The umbrella in the car😄, how cute. And the sweater vest turned out nice. The stitches are so tidy and well defined, you really see the twist. Your friend's jewelry is pretty. I love the magnetic clasps, so easy to use. Dorothy is such an interesting person with so many talents. Her bird embroidery is beautiful! Kilt making is such a unique art. I watched a video about it once and was surprised at how much fabric they take and how heavy they can be.🤔 The goosander is similar to our mergansers. We mainly have hooded mergansers (hoodies) here. The moorhen's legs look unnaturally yellow, like they are painted😯. The peacocks were beautiful, the white one, wow! It's fun to go different places and see the birds.i can walk from my wooded front yard to my neighbor's cow pasture and see a totally different variety. It's interesting to notice that. Thanks for taking us along. I really enjoyed seeing a wee bit of Scotland.🤗👍😍
Hi Karen, shoppings carts are a must too I agree. Yup Merganser is your equivalent I think! How lovely to live in a place with space around you, woods and a cow pasture. Glad you enjoyed my little trip. xx
Thanks Pene for sharing your trip to Perth. Such lovely photography of the natural world. I expect your mother was delighted with her gifts ! And Pete was glad to have you back home.
You're right, mum loved her gifts and has the picture hanging where she can see it easily and it's been great to be home too. My aunt Ann visited today from Ireland just for a few hours and it's been another treat. Hopefully show you next week. xx
Thank you Penne for taking us along to Scotland and the Inch. You are so good at interviewing people. That is a skill not easily come by. So glad you let us get to know Dolly. Her life story was full. Music, dance , creating and family.
The finished sweater is beautiful up close. What a nice stitch! Isn't it nice that George is wearing it too. Did you learn your sewing and knitting in school? The Scotland videos were so enjoyable! It was so nice to hear a bit of Dorthy's story and to be taken on walks with you.. The peacocks were spectacular and seemed a fancier version of ones we see in parks here. Thanks for the get-away.
morning Marcia, My nan taught me to knit I think. However, I don't remember a time when mum wasn't knitting, she helped me. I really started in earnest when I got married and had the girls. I was 20! Haven't ever stopped!
That was a really lovely video you put together. Must get out to Scone Palace again soon. It was great to meet you in person and look forward to you coming again soon.
Loved seeing your trip to Scotland. I was home in West Sussex visiting my family for 3 weeks and did some traveling too. We went up to Skipton to visit my brother in law. On the way to Yorkshire we went via Monmouth, as you do, and we saw a pair of Goosanders too on the river. I'd not seen them before. We had quite a birdy trip as we called in to Slimbridge Wildlife Trust and saw a rare bird there too but I can't remember what that was now! Some tiny blackbird sized wader! Jane (san diego ca )
Hello Jane, your trip sounds wonderful, sussex, skipton, monmouth, slimbridge! as well as family. Great to share Goosander memories. Intrigued by the tiny wader! Glad you're home safe and sound.
What a great podcast. Thanks so much for doing it so soon after your little holiday. Loved seeing your friends. I did like the crocheted scarf your friend on the train was wearing & also the blanket she was working on. Would love to know what the pattern is. I saved watching your episode as a little treat to myself upon returning from the dentist to have a couple of extractions. It was just the tonic I needed. Have a great weekend & look forward to seeing you again. Ooh by the way “the coat” looked great on you. I’ve worn mine a couple of times when the weather has been bad & it’s felt so cosy. Kind regards Dianne 😀
You're so right Dianne, the coat is light to carry and wear but so cosy, glad you like it too. Hope your extractions settle soon and so glad you enjoyed the podcast. I'll ask my friend for the name of the patterns and let you know.
@@penelopeschinwag ooh thanks so much for taking the time to ask your friend. I really appreciate it. Have a good week, it’s nothing but rain with me & I have a friend here for the week. Rain, rain, and more rain. Isn't interesting in crafting - never heard of such a thing (only joking!) I have a friend the same but she went to Ally Pally this year with Heather and has bought wool and fabric. Next up teaching her. Most people give in in the end!!!
wonderful vlog pene! your films are just the best - you really have quite the knack. that was a very full and fast river wow! and was that an albino peacock/hen? (i saw a pair of long-horned owls yesterday on my hike - looking like a pair of fat cats in their tree, also a pair of mountain bluebirds; beauty.) i think the thing i like most about your vlogs, is seeing the care you take for your mother - and now too - your friends' care for hers. i wish everyone would treat their aging parents as beautifully. and shame on those who don't! cheers pene - libby
Thanks for the compliment with the films, I must say I do enjoy doing them. It was an albino peacock. I would love to see a pair of long horned owls and mountain bluebirds, it sounds a great hike. I wish my mum could meet her new friend Dorothy. They have been zooming since covid times, but both are unable to travel now. Heather thought it a good idea we introduce them. Mum has her new picture hanging by the chair she sits in and its lovely to see the love they have for each other.
That was absolutely beautiful - thank you so much for sharing all of this with us…..you, your family and your friends allow us a glimpse of beauty and grace wrapped up inside of such exquisite artistic skill❤ Love seeing everything about England and Scotland too! Extremely different from travel where I live in the U.S. Thank you!
What a wonderful episode this week - I enjoyed every minute of it! Lovely to see glimpses of your train journey, your chat with Dorothy (what a talented lady, and I can see how she would get on well with you mum!) and the places that you visited during your stay. Thank you for taking the time to put this together! xx
Oh there is a darling little quilt and stitching shop in a nearby town called Tudor Rose. The woman who owns it is from the UK and she has such a pleasant shop. She carries many pieces with art from Hannah Dale. So cute!
Well in the book she says "all the animals in this book have been made using Scheepjes Stonewashed yarn which is a sport weight 78 per cent cotton 22 per cent acrylic mix. Sport weight is slightly thicker than 4 ply but thinner than DK, also sometimes referred to as 5 ply yarn. Although I recommend using the above yarns to achieve the same look and feel as my animals, the patterns will work just as well with other sport weight yarns for the animals and other 4 ply yarns for the outfits. 24st and 32 rows for Scheepjes stonewash and 26st and 36 rows for Scheepjes catona". Hope that helps Rosemary. xx
