These are powerful testimonies, thank you for sharing. As a person who has suffered most of my adult life, decades of unrelenting depression, 20 years of multiple medications at high doses, an attempt on my life, in and out of mental hospitals and out patient programs, I can tell you that transitioning into ketosis has been equally hard. One, my metabolic health was so damaged from 20 years of medication that I have tried since 2020 to stay in ketosis. Two, there is the food addiction where your brain and nervous system find so much relief from the foods you consistently consumed to feel better, and 3 you fumble around not knowing what you are doing, you find relief at times from your illness but the agony that your brain and body are experiencing from titrating off decades of drugs and decades of food addiction takes so much courage and strength. I am finally winning after 4 years of trial and error. Thank you for putting this information out, I hope it makes others transition and remission an easier journey❤ thank you for the research and lastly thank you for the doctors who are at the forefront of this revolution.

Wow, I made myself choose between doing my online Yoga Nidra certification course and watching this. I'm really glad I watched this. All three panelists and the moderator are great. I am on day three of zero psych meds (the switch from 10 mg to 0 mg of ziprasidone is definitely noticeable, so if you're tapering be patient with yourself and show yourself some grace). This video popped up just at the right time for me. It makes withdrawal more bearable to hear Harmony, Lauren, and Eric speak.
Will Metabolic Mind ever be sharing more on meditation? I know Hannah Warren (and I think Matt Baszucki) have a meditation practice. I started doing Yoga Nidra, and the insomnia I got from tapering down on my meds improved. I don't know if you take requests, but I would love to hear how Hannah and Matt practice (or anyone else who uses meditation to help with their wellness.)
    Thank you for sharing!

Yes! yes! yes! diet absolutely does have a big influence on having depression. In about a 10 day period the depression I experienced for decades dropped dramatically once i consumed more animal fat and red meat, reduced carbs even more. And HOPE CAME ALIVE. and do not forget the gut/ gut bacteria plays a HUGHE role in all of this.

For sustainability I work hard to help my patients connect being in ketosis with their well-being.
If I can help someone see how they have changed it helps them maintain the diet.
Often people think something changed outside of them to make things better but really the diet helps them see how good things are.

I’m at the 4 week point and I notice I don’t have sugar crashes anymore but sometimes I’m still having a lot of anxiety. It kind of seems like more than before I started. Is this likely because I haven’t stayed away from the “keto” friendly packaged foods?
I’m ready to give up on keto again if I will keep having intrusive thoughts etc. I just want to feel better :(

    • @tibbisearcher5885

Quite possibly it's the prepared foods. Defiantly worth cutting them out to see what happens. Spices can also trigger anxiety. I've had anxiety episodes after reintroducing spices. Experimentation is an effective way to find out what helps and hinders you. Upping the fat intake can calm the brain as well.

Vegan keto is a thing. Also, unless you painstakingly grew all of your own food, significant numbers of animals suffered/died to produce your "ethical" meal. Eat in moderation and respect the complex life(plants and animals) that nourish yours.

In the USA, we can buy products labeled as “ certified humanely raised.”
I have visited a humane and regenerative farm , and I can tell you that all of the animals are happy and free up until the very moment they die.
This is a growing movement, and I think we can feel confident that as awareness grows people will make better choices .
If you are willing to shorten your own life for the betterment of animal’s lives , I think that’s totally fine too. It’s your choice.
