  • Ever wondered about the hidden truths of antidepressants? In this eye-opening episode of Her Health Confessions, Dr. Mark Horowitz delves deep into the truth behind antidepressants-from their side effects to the challenges of safe withdrawal. With years of research on the neurobiology of depression, Dr. Mark unpacks questions like 'Are antidepressants truly helpful?' 'Can you safely stop antidepressants?' and 'Do antidepressants cause lasting sexual dysfunction?' Drawing from both his professional expertise and personal experience with antidepressant withdrawal, Dr Horowitz offers expert insights on the best approaches to tapering off antidepressants. This essential conversation is a must-listen for anyone curious about the long-term impacts, potential benefits, and often-overlooked side effects of these medications.
    What makes Dr Horowitz an expert in this topic? He is a Clinical Research Fellow in Psychiatry at the National Health Service (NHS) in London and an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at University College London. With a PhD in the neurobiology of depression and antidepressant action, he co-authored the Royal College of Psychiatrists' guidelines on stopping antidepressants and has published extensively on safe tapering methods.

      I was on escitalopram for 25 years, tried many times to get off it and always had a “relapse” and believed I had a chemical imbalance that was permanent. Eventually came off after very slowly tapering the dose and suffered through the final tiny dose to zero stage. Happy to report doing very well 9 months off. No doctor seems to know anything about the withdrawal symptoms, learned how to get off the drug on you tube. Very sad state of our medical system.

      you can but you need to go on keto or carnivore diet and repair your metabolism. You will also feel way much better mentally. Get rid of bad food and take it seriously. There is a reason why everyone is now talking about keto and carnivore and it's not a snake oil thing.

    Thank you for this video! Yes, this information is super important (more than ever) especially for women. I myself am down to 0.2mg of Lexapro in my taper so far. I’ve almost reached my year mark and I’m so grateful that there is an end to this process.

    Me too at 80. High dose for social anxiety. Shy all my life. Now entertain aged care. So tired since on this. Want to be quiet and listen. But the dose was increased. Not happy about happy pills.

    Is it necessary to reduce every month? Ive had protracted withdrawals while reducing and hard. Can i go slower than that?

    • @theresaclark4170
      @theresaclark4170 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. I'm following Dr. Mark Horowitz' "hyperbolic tapering" suggestion using LIQUID Paroxetine (Paxil). I'm taking 9-12 months to taper off 20 mg which I was put on 8 years ago for "mild anxiety." It was basically a band-aid. Tried it on my own and experienced SO MANY withdrawal symptoms. Thought I was going to lose my mind! 😳🤕😩
      My reduction is every month. So far so good! You must research more of this amazing doctor's interviews where he goes into great depth as to why AND how to taper "slowly and safely." Everyone needs to pay attention to their body and taper at a speed that works for them as an individual.

    I got no warnings. Side effects and tapering were ignored by my doctors. I am still sick. We don't get help for social problems like poverty or physical problems like hypersensitivity or trauma. I always felt poisoned. I have a hard time not hating my doctors.
