    I just came back from a bike ride and now I can watch a dog casually standing on the back of a bike like everything is normal. I'm so looking forward to go bikepacking myself and I'm soon going to be able to as I just sold my home and will move out of the city to a lifestyle more suited for me. Got to have nature in my life.

    Ryan, my husband and I support you and your channel and I would swear to you that I've watched all of your videos BUT I clearly missed this one. I'm having a tough day today as a mother (so hard sometimes) and a nurse (crazy hard all the time) and let me tell you... watching this video for the first time is EXACTLY what I needed. I love your positivity and zest for life. You playing with this clown is absolutely fantastic and pure magic! It is very clear how much your channel means to you and I wanted to let you know how very successful you are at making my life richer. Thank you and keep sharing your adventures with us. We NEED them more than you know.

    You can improve your safety on busy highways tremendously by doing these two things: 1. It looks dorky but a sunglass mounted rearview mirror is invaluable. It takes some getting use to but you can spot danger before you become a hood ornament. 2. Wear florescent orange. Drivers will give you more room. I have tested both of these over thousands of mile on Central California roads and they work. Just try it and test them out. Good luck.

    • @dudeonbike800
      @dudeonbike800 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points.
      1) Agree. I simply don't ride without a rear-view mirror anymore. Really feel naked and vulnerable when I can't keep an eye on what's coming from behind. And on the tandem, it even better with two eyes rearward!!!
      2) Go further and use lights. I've used reflective vests for years. But now it's FLASHING LIGHTS 24/7/365 on the road, front and rear. Especially when riding through variable forests on the road where you're going in and out of shadows. Drivers are doing the same and their eyes may not be able to adjust to the shadows to see you. A bright rear flasher eliminates that problem. Today's lights are bright, burn forever, and can easily be recharged.
      Happy roads!!!

    That trip from Honduras influenced my life too. I had already watched a few of your videos and was impressed. I must admit I was a little skeptical, was this guy for real? No one is that positive and motivated. But I subscribed anyway. Then I stumbled on you trip home from Honduras. You are for real, those children loved you and you can't fool a child they know.

    I've been binge watching your channel!! you inspired me! I just bought a trek dual sport 2 to ride back and forth to work.. about 10 miles total.. I'm 60lbs overweight! the new bike will help take care of that.. I decided to go with trek over priority for the simple fact that's what my local mom and pop bike shop carries and I wanted to support local business.. ofcourse I know in the past you enjoyed trek bikes also..

    • @babybirdhome
      @babybirdhome 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just bought a Trek earlier this year for the same reason, except I’m about 300 lbs which is about 100 lbs over. One thing I will say is, if you’re interested in getting and staying healthy, don’t get too hung up on the weight numbers. Bicycling is one of the most efficient means of transportation there is - even more efficient than walking. And all the calories you burn, especially when you’re starting out, won’t necessarily translate into pounds lost. In the beginning you’ll see some fluctuation and stagnation (at least in my first few months so far), but measure your body too. If you’re as out of shape as I am starting out, a lot of those initial calories burned and pounds lost are converting from fat to muscle, and muscle weighs more per volume than fat does, so some losses won’t show up on the scale. Don’t sweat if the weight doesn’t drop off as fast as you expect or would like - staying close to the same weight for a while doesn’t necessarily mean nothing is happening.
      But _do_ be aware that because cycling is so efficient, you don’t want to start adding calories like crazy thinking “I’m burning a lot more of these off so it’s fine” either. That can undermine you and it’s really easy to do - happened to me a few times already. Counting calories is helpful to make sure that you’re not overcompensating for all the exercise on the one side, and making sure that you’re adequately fueling your riding on the other side. Too much of either one is bad.
      Good luck, and enjoy the ride no matter what!

    I wanted to share with you a discovery although totally unrelated.. it’s a song called “ Colorado “ by Danny Holien, from 1969.. a song I’ve been searching for for so long and just found, I know it’s before your time but I thought I would share my discovery with you anyway!
    Be safe on the rest of your trip with John and of course Mira, she’s the best.. I had a border collie whom we lost 6 years ago named “ Tag”, still miss him..

I spent a lot of time in the hills there on horseback with my dad. Good memories there, but things are definitely a lot different now. My dad is from a town close by Zacatecas called La Colonia Felipe Angeles. Who knows, maybe you rode through there. Tiny ranch. Someday we’ll go back and visit together.

    Ryan, great nostalgic video and it warms my heart to follow you and live along side your experience. I love the injections of old pics and video. I can totally relate to the energy you feel and emit. We must share the same DNA :-) I stopped riding my road bike long ago because I hate being by cars... way too dangerous. mtb is so much more fulfilling, but obviously it is limiting to go great distances, except on certain few routes. As you speak of your trip from Honduras back through Mexico, it reminds me of my 2 college summers hitch hiking and backpacking to/in northwestern USA and BC/Alberta Canada. The time I spent doing this in the early 80s was very formative of my future outdoor quests and life-long desire to hike, mtb bike, dirt moto, love plants, and adventure. Thanks for sharing... enjoy and prosper😃

    Somewhere in that town I found a firework maker. Best fireworks I ever bought. The only thing that made me nervous were the blackened walls, no doubt evidence of a past mishap. Mexican fireworks are not allowed in the USA since they are both dangerous and insane. My great grandpa used to make the trip to Zacatecas by backroads using a burro. He bought fresh veggies in the Mercado then carried them back to hamlets with small populations of indigenous peoples. My great grandmother was a native and so spoke Nahuatl fluently. My great grandfather later moved north into Colorado which was then still Mexico, or at least the lower portion of that state. In our family everyone marries late in life. My grandfather and father moved back near Zacatecas during the depression. Work was scarce in the USA at that time.

    The worst thing on those truck routes is the truck you can hear a half mile away and it just gets louder and louder and louder….please don’t let this be the one snoozing or distracted by text messages.
    Other than that, great episode! Haha!

      @@duzer Reminds me of when I used to own cars and all the times when I, albeit rare, was distracted or tired to the point of reckless. Maybe this is how PTSD manifests itself? A bike that can transition to gravel is essential so collecting used parts to build me one. Got any? On the other hand if you’ve ever ridden an active logging road you’ll know that ain’t no fun either but I digress…cheers and happy Spring!

    Hello Duzer.
    I see you suffr the rain a lot.
    You know there's a waterproof coat in decathlon in europe.
    They also have rain pants up to 2 hours of rain 🌧.
    Both very cheap.
    Now of you can spend some money there's waterproof pants at shuster Germany made out of gortex.
    100% waterproof and very thin very light.
    Maybe you can find this on the website and order it.
    Ir find the equivalent in thr USA.
    No more wet.
    I use decathlon rain coat and pants.
    No more wet outside.
    You do have to control your inner temperature in order not to sweat.

    A thief of any sort will always look for an easy target.
    You carry yourself in a strong way, this is good. In Africa we know what the animals nature is, but people are a different story.
    Stay strong and don't get caught in the crossfire.
