After "Wheel Of Time", I didn't think Blind Guardian could ever come up with another album finale song that could surpass it, or at the very least match it..... but they somehow pulled it off! This band just continues to get better with every release. I pray that they never stop putting out such top quality music.
What would you say about Beyond the Wall then? It all feels...like a continuation. At first we had And Then There Was Silence, then Sacred World, then Wheel of Time, then The Ninth Wave, then Grand Parade...and here, after all these brilliant songs we face yet another truly majestic album ending (I know two of the aforementioned were openings tho, but had the same vibe to them)...my 2nd favourite of all these btw. First Wheel of Time, then Beyond the Wall. BG never fails to deliver the best long symphonic metal stuff!
Sometimes when I listen to Blind Guardian as I walk down the street, I get lost in the lyrics, the music and the rhythm of their songs. My imagination runs rampant at this point and I almost lose touch with the world, keeping my senses to a minimum for street crossing, traffic awareness etc. I sometimes feel guilty because of getting lost this hard to their music. Anyone else feeling like that?
Anyone else just love the lore of Blind Guardian? For me every song is about the journey into death, and it's so calming. The war is your whole life. The final end of the battle where you win, and the journey through the peace. No more demons, no more gods to control you. Only the crossing of the threshold of that door and every struggle will be no more. I think about every song they do way too much and always end up with pretty much the same conclusion. I hope my death can be as beautiful as Blind Guardian's music and lore.
A friend sent me a link for this video. I watched it and thought "oh well, this Blind Guardian thing seems to be pretty good". So I've searched for some more songs, and I love it. Time to save money and get myself an album :D

I've already bought all of their albums & live DVD from the 2003 Coburg gig. No idea how I missed them, since we're about the same generation & I've listened to metal since I learned what music is.. but better late than never! And I'm sooooo glad & grateful I found'em. Ja, doch! Lied 1 super, Lied 2 noch besser und letztes absolute Spitze.....ich kannte Euch nicht. Tolkien ist eines meiner Herzensautoren....,also war es doch kein Fehlgriff..und so ganz nach Gefühl ausgesucht, wie gesagt. Ich bin überrascht. Danke!

Wow, I swear BG are up there with Iron Maiden when it comes to still cool late-career records... While they might be a bit inconsistent, they still contain masterpieces such as this, At the Edge of Time, The Wheel of Time, Dance of Death, When the River Runs Deep, Valkyries, The Holy Grail, The Pilgrim, etc.
This new album might be one of my favourite Blind Guardian albums now. The only 2 albums I can say for certain are better IMO is Imaginations and Nightfall in Middle Earth.

Who is the heroin of the story, who goes against him, why seal/break the seals? Are the nine and the gods the same, are they good or not? And who is Crow/Storm?
Close to the best song on the album......love it!! My only gripe is that Hansi's voice seems to be lost in the mix a little- it should be out soaring over the instrumentation. In fact this applies for the whole album. A small thing but it does bug me!!
Jobantus I disagree. I prefer it like this, as you can properly hear the instruments, which is nice. I can hear Hansi just fine. There isn't one point in the song where I lose Hansi.

I got the new album: Legacy of the Dark Lands, and i can safely say that the Story of Arthur (the main character from Beyond the Red Mirror album) goes beyond this. ;D
What is everyone's interpretation on the song's lyrics? It seems to me that it is about the protagonist (the one who ventures through the mirror), being tricked by the Gods of the world into thinking the battle is over and sealing the mirror destroying the people's of the world's last hope. The chorus is what the protagonist is seeing. The perspective of the song changes from the protagonist, the people of the land beyond the red mirror, and the Gods of that land which are retaking control. Thus, it leads into the final track Doom.

+Alex Wirtes (Tankdalf) Hello, i think i could lift the mystery a little bit for you. The story on BtrM is based on the story from a previous Album, Imaginations from another Side. Both Albums take their place in a world created by Blind Guardian. You could say that the protagonist has the choice to switch from his boring normal life, in a world like ours with no magic, into a magic world with old gods and a huge war, where he could be the hero. In the first Album he doesn´t jump through the mirror and now, on BtrM we learn about his life and the happenings after that choice.
we know that in BtrM the hero get´s a new change to save the world, so who knows what BG think about all that :)? everyone must look for himself, what he thinks how the story ends
Lower in the comment section, MegaZeroX7 seems to have an accurate interpretation of this story. The story is incredibly convoluted so I can't say you're alone in the sense that it is hard to make anything of the lyrics.

This is the one that got me into the band. Before I thought they were folk metal in the same vain as something like Korpiklaani, which is not my thing.
André's songwriting is amazing sometimes. Very talented guy.

This was beautifully written, but you may also want to seek therapy. Counting down to death is no way to live.

Thomen would have done better drums that are more suited to the song-dynamics. Fred is good, but it's so bland what he does here.
yeah, the drums went downhill after Thomen left. Frederic is especially weak with his feet.
