I got these in 1981 too. The badly printed 'Sample Level Matrix Key' is part of the separate Set Two: Caves and Caverns, which didn't come with my edition of the combined 1-3 dungeon geomorphs (I got it separately later) - maybe you got that separately too? If not you got a good deal from TSR adding that in. I believe these were actually the work of Ernie Gygax, who did them while working in the Dungeon Hobby Shop. I also never used them - until recently, when I got the PDF version and printed them on card to make quick dungeons. With scissors they make good lairs for quick encounters.
Those were never seen at any of my games. My one DM was notorious for drawing out caves and caverns. I don't know how many we explored. He would draw usually up to 3 levels and if we were lucky we would make through maybe half of the caves. I had dozens of maps I drew with notations of what was in it and what we had to leave behind.
I had the same feeling when broke open the dungeon geomorphs. I loved the Monster & Treasure Assortments. I kind of feel like what I wanted for those two books to be one like we got in I13 Adventure Pack I or the 2nd Edition "module" A Hero's Tale.
Yeah, the Monster book was for D&D, because AD&D had this all covered in the DMG. We didn't have Challenge Rating, but we had plenty of guidance by dungeon level, which is pretty much how we judged everything then, challenge-wise.
These older books made me think of Barrier Peaks. I was going to ask you to review it, but then realized you probably already had! A quick check confirmed. Going to watch now. It's at 845 views currently. Lets see if we can get that over 1000! Come on everyone! 🤓
I never had the money to buy anything sight unseen, so anything sealed was a no-go. Luckily, there was always that one copy on the shelf that had been mysteriously opened by some miscreant...

Never had either of these, very cool to look at. Thanks for the video

I never used these back in the day but I do have an electronic copy of the Monster & Treasure Book currently
Always wanted those geomorphs but never had them or even saw them in person

I thought at one point a set of the Geomorphs came in the boxed rules sets.
Though I too started playing D&D about 80-81, I never got these.
I owned these at one point.
