You guys out west have it good with the free access desert tracks. Granted, our dirt for motocross tracks here in the Midwest is great, but the easy access to free riding is minimal. Sucks only being able to ride on weekends when a track is open

what map do you use green or white and why?

White map for sure because it really wakes up the engine. I'll take whatever power i can get out of a 250 four-strokes!

do you feel the 250 has enough power for desert riding? I'm between 250 & 450 and new to AZ terrain.

AJ, that's the kind of question that opens up a huge can of worms! The answer is, it depends. If the desert you're riding is like Lucerne Valley and super fast, then the 450 is the way to go for the obvious reasons - Faster, a tad more stabile at speeds, and less work to go fast. BUT if you ride mostly single track, the 250 is the way to go. More than enough power to get you around and you'll have more energy through out your entire ride because the bike isn't as torquey and a handfull in the tighter rockier stuff. Plus, the 250 is fun to rev out. I rode this 250 with the 13/51 stock gearing for a bit before going down a tooth to 13/50. I found with the 51 rear sprocket I was just out of the meat of the power in 2nd and too low in 3rd. The 50 tooth really tighten that up. I'm actually making a garage build video with this 250 so stay tuned and thanks for watching!

Great vid! Are you running Acerbis or IMS tank? I have '23 KX250 that I moto and woods ride and can't decide between the 2 tanks. Prefer USA made IMS but I like the price of the Acerbis better. Interesting notes on your gearing. I am going to test a 51 and 52 once the snow melts. Our local hare scrambles east of the Mississippi can get a little tight. Sub'd for garage build!👍🏁

Thanks for the sub, David! I'm running the acerbis. I would have gotten the IMS, but I'm mostly racing enduros and hare scrambles so having a dry break system isn't necessary. Yeah, I went with the 13/50 because our terrain here in AZ is a lot faster than what is back East. I know Lyndon Snodgrass, last year's XC2 GNCC champ runs the stock gearing at 13/51. But 13/52 might work out for you if your trails are extremely tight and you want to avoid 1st gear completely.
