Yeah this song bops... Almost too hard for the portions of game it accompanies. True Lab has some pretty bumping instrumentation, too, but it sounds a bit more foreboding, as if things are crashing around you and producing all sorts of loud noise. This, rather, just sounds straight up groovy.

These Amalgamates are more sad than scary. These are creatures who molded into one... THING. Snowdrake's Mom and the Reaper Bird are sad. The Reaper Bird can attack but attacks the Everyman, and the Everyman writhes in pain from it. It can't attack you without hurting itself. Then Snowdrake's Mom was sad because she only wanted to see her son. She didn't even want to hurt you, she only wanted to see her son. Most of her attacks are outside the "soul box" and you can't get hurt by them. It's sad, really.
I think the Amalgamates can only move their part that appears on the Amalgamate's body... Just like Aaron can only move his muscles and tail... And Shyren can only move her body... That's pretty sad... 😢

I’d never played a game like this until a couple years ago and this part genuinely made me scared. It’s literally the saddest thing in the game. Monsters who had lives and family’s were experimented on until they became horrifying amalgamations of monsters and “determination.” When I first heard of determination in this game, I thought it was another cheesy quote that was spread around the game, but it’s horrifying when you realize what it does. Fun fact: this song is ironically an “amalgamation” of other songs.

I think the Amalgamates' theme is energetic because they're still living, despite all odds. I would say it's because they WANT to keep living, but, we don't know that, so... And the unnerving part kind of explains itself.
I remember hearing it's because videogame music is just like that. Battle themes usually convey more than just one feeling because gameplay and the way the player plays makes them feel differently and it wouldn't fit for a song to not convey that.

I seriously hate that audio so much. It gives me way too many chills for me to stand. So hearing a sample from it in this absolute bop of a song just makes it feel out of place.
Man, this ost is so underrated, on my opinion it is well thought and fits the lab so well. It has that creepy, but also mysterious atmosphere, it fits all the climax of the area, after all isn't that what the lab is supposed to be? Alphys's dark and mysterious secret? This is one of my favorites.
So anyone else absolutely love this segment of the game? You learn so much it's so amazing and so sad learning about Alphys's past and what she has done

+Matt Fortress I like how they gave what seems to just be a meh character the best backstory of the game. Tasked with an impossible mission, she goes to no end to reach her goal, and she got this. Knowing that she has to look after the abominations she created because of the simple fact monsters cannot capacitate as much as humans.
This was my favorite part of the game. Exploring the dark and mysterious True Lab really does set in tension for the player. The lore of Alphy's character is built up here, sort of how the Pokemon Mansion did in Red and Blue. I believe the fear of the Amalgams comes from not knowing what they are. The first three you encounter don't have names and their text boxes are a jumbled mish-mash. Other fights with the Amalgams build up tension as they progress as well. None of them truly mean harm, they're just misunderstood.

SPOILERS I'M SERIOUS Man, the true lab was messed up. I got attacked by Endogeny, and then died twice against Lemon Bread. And the Snowdrake's creepy smile was off putting.
As long as people don't get to serious(READ: insane) about the shipping craziness it's perfectly fine and harmless to speculate. Megalovania is a lot of peoples favorite because it reflects such a powerful moment in the game but I don't think there's anyone with working ears who would say its the only good song infact picking apart the melodies of various songs to find their meaning in context is an incredible game all its own. Finally I've noticed Asgore's a real love him or hate him type character. On one hand he is this genuinely kind and tragic character, but on the other he lied to his people for years and murdered the humans before you. The question is does his remorse redeem him?
Sans is one of my favourite characters, and Megalovania one of my favourite songs simply because of the poignant moment that accompanies it. Even so, aside from those, I more or less love the entire soundtrack/character lineup - and, if I'm honest, my favourite song is probably either ASGORE or Spear of Justice. Or, uh, Your Best Nightmare. Still, Sans is a powerful character simply because of that fight - and the puns. I appreciate that he's definitely meant to be one of the MAIN main characters, and that shows simply because of his role in the genocide run, and I can understand that. He is a pretty cool guy. And Megalovania is a cool song. Doesn't mean all the others are shit, right? I don't ship Sans/Toriel, though. Nuh-uh.
He is one of the developers for the homestuck game that would have come out three years ago if the company they paid to create a game hadn't taken the money and ran, leaving them poor and yet still working on the game with money from conventions and merchandise, so i guess he's making all of those genres at once with that

Well done Toby for using the same technique as Earthbound which Undertale was partly based on, intentional or not.

am I the only one disturbed a little by everyman (the thing reaper bird attacks with) I mean think about it, as the butterflies swarm his face he is helpless, he just writhes in pain and agony, and then on the next attack his head is gone and he just shambles towards you, helpless. The other attack he uses where his head multiplies is fine but those first two are really unsettling.

Once I've been searching things on Google and I stumbled upon a game series called LISA. I was interested so I looked into the Wikia to see what it was, and I ended up reading all the story of the game called LISA: The Painful/Joyful. The thing is, on the game there is an drug called Joy that makes you feel nothing and get addicted to it, but in long term it ends up twisting your physical appearance and your mentality, and you end up looking like a distorted and melted monster, which are called Joy Mutants. Now, there are somethings they and the Amalgamates share in equal: 1 - They took an kind of drug (Amalgamates, DETERMINATION, and the Mutants, the Joy). 2 - They turned into all fucked up and distorted monsters. 3 - Some of them are REALLY strong (Amalgamates, Lemon Bread, Endogeny and Reaper Bird, and for the mutants, Peter, Rex Thunderstorm and others). 4 - They have an creepy battle music most of them share and some have unique musics (Amalgamates: Amalgam, So Cold and Woofenstein, while the Mutants have Soft Skin and some have different musics too.) 5 - They have been created directly or indirectly by someone (Amalgamates, by Alphys, and the Mutants took Joy, which was made by Dr. Yado). *Could Toby Fox have made the Amalgamates inspired in the LISA Series, especially the Painful/Joyful?*

I’d never played a game like this until a couple years ago and this part genuinely made me scared. It’s literally the saddest thing in the game. Monsters who had lives and family’s were experimented on until they became horrifying amalgamations of monsters and “determination.” When I first heard of determination in this game, I thought it was another cheesy quote that was spread around the game, but it’s horrifying when you realize what it does.
Fun fact: this song is ironically an “amalgamation” of other songs.
What might be worse is that in the best ending of the game, they aren't even fixed. They're all still stuck together

It's kind of weird how Amalgamates have a pretty energetic and unnerving song.

I think the Amalgamates' theme is energetic because they're still living, despite all odds. I would say it's because they WANT to keep living, but, we don't know that, so...
And the unnerving part kind of explains itself.
I remember hearing it's because videogame music is just like that. Battle themes usually convey more than just one feeling because gameplay and the way the player plays makes them feel differently and it wouldn't fit for a song to not convey that.

Man, this ost is so underrated, on my opinion it is well thought and fits the lab so well. It has that creepy, but also mysterious atmosphere, it fits all the climax of the area, after all isn't that what the lab is supposed to be? Alphys's dark and mysterious secret? This is one of my favorites.

This was my favorite part of the game. Exploring the dark and mysterious True Lab really does set in tension for the player. The lore of Alphy's character is built up here, sort of how the Pokemon Mansion did in Red and Blue. I believe the fear of the Amalgams comes from not knowing what they are. The first three you encounter don't have names and their text boxes are a jumbled mish-mash. Other fights with the Amalgams build up tension as they progress as well. None of them truly mean harm, they're just misunderstood.

This track is easily one of the best tracks in this game then again every song that isn't Megalovania gets overshadowed

As long as people don't get to serious(READ: insane) about the shipping craziness it's perfectly fine and harmless to speculate. Megalovania is a lot of peoples favorite because it reflects such a powerful moment in the game but I don't think there's anyone with working ears who would say its the only good song infact picking apart the melodies of various songs to find their meaning in context is an incredible game all its own. Finally I've noticed Asgore's a real love him or hate him type character. On one hand he is this genuinely kind and tragic character, but on the other he lied to his people for years and murdered the humans before you. The question is does his remorse redeem him?
Sans is one of my favourite characters, and Megalovania one of my favourite songs simply because of the poignant moment that accompanies it. Even so, aside from those, I more or less love the entire soundtrack/character lineup - and, if I'm honest, my favourite song is probably either ASGORE or Spear of Justice. Or, uh, Your Best Nightmare.
Still, Sans is a powerful character simply because of that fight - and the puns. I appreciate that he's definitely meant to be one of the MAIN main characters, and that shows simply because of his role in the genocide run, and I can understand that. He is a pretty cool guy. And Megalovania is a cool song. Doesn't mean all the others are shit, right?
I don't ship Sans/Toriel, though. Nuh-uh.

I just love the "science has gone too far" vibe feel of this.
Funny how this samples the Cave of the Past theme known as "The Place", which in itself sampled the first note or two of "Deirdre" from the Beach Boys. I'll also mention how part of the music is Giygas's breathing and one of the item use sounds as well as the sounds from the bus tunnel along with other sound affects from Earthbound. Well done Toby for using the same technique as Earthbound which Undertale was partly based on, intentional or not.

am I the only one disturbed a little by everyman (the thing reaper bird attacks with) I mean think about it, as the butterflies swarm his face he is helpless, he just writhes in pain and agony, and then on the next attack his head is gone and he just shambles towards you, helpless. The other attack he uses where his head multiplies is fine but those first two are really unsettling.
+BlackHoleDragon I can only imagine the intent of the whole True Lab area was to be creepy, I mean we are talking about the unholy experiments combining elements that were ultimately never meant to be which resulted in beings with conflicts in their physical being. That and y'know, the origins of a certain cheerful yellow flower.

Once I've been searching things on Google and I stumbled upon a game series called LISA. I was interested so I looked into the Wikia to see what it was, and I ended up reading all the story of the game called LISA: The Painful/Joyful.
The thing is, on the game there is an drug called Joy that makes you feel nothing and get addicted to it, but in long term it ends up twisting your physical appearance and your mentality, and you end up looking like a distorted and melted monster, which are called Joy Mutants.
Now, there are somethings they and the Amalgamates share in equal:
1 - They took an kind of drug (Amalgamates, DETERMINATION, and the Mutants, the Joy).
2 - They turned into all fucked up and distorted monsters.
3 - Some of them are REALLY strong (Amalgamates, Lemon Bread, Endogeny and Reaper Bird, and for the mutants, Peter, Rex Thunderstorm and others).
4 - They have an creepy battle music most of them share and some have unique musics (Amalgamates: Amalgam, So Cold and Woofenstein, while the Mutants have Soft Skin and some have different musics too.)
5 - They have been created directly or indirectly by someone (Amalgamates, by Alphys, and the Mutants took Joy, which was made by Dr. Yado).
*Could Toby Fox have made the Amalgamates inspired in the LISA Series, especially the Painful/Joyful?*

I know I'm very late but *holy fuck* a mention of LISA, and it's a sorta compelling theory, but unless the Annoying Dog himself confirms, we don't have solid proof.
