John smith..I've made untold sunrays..you methods are very different from Brody's I'll leave it at that..I was sample room manager at Jasper Conran and would do their pleats in house with just an iron and fuse press..but use Cement sometimes when busy

Hi, Mardwene sorry for the delay in response. The cabinet has a water tank in the bottom with an immersion heater which boils the water. You also need to suck the air out of the top otherwise the paper gets too wet.

@@eastwell Very true but if you use Nylon then the pleat won't hold for more than 1-2 days. When pleating it is best to use polyester. This will give you a permanent pleat.
As per my knowledge, Pleated fabrics should always be steam ironed from a distance (contactless as much as possible) .. this applies to mostly sheer and flowy fabrics.. if the fabric is thick then it need not be contactless..

I'd have to argue that my dad was and still is the best pleat maker. He worked or ran the business for 45 years.

No not exactly but we do have a pleat that is similar call "treebark" There is a photo on our website in the fancy pleat section.

What kind of paper do you use?
Craft card around 200gsm. If you want the moulds to last you have to use virgin paper not recycled
How will the pleats stay when washed?
If you use 100% polyester then the pleats will stay if washed at 30 degrees.

Does this method keep the pleating permanently or is there some kind of process you need to do to treat the fabric
All depends on fabric..man made fabric hold the pleat better

Using Polyester the pleat will be permanent. If you use silk, cotton or wool then the pleat will loosen when wet.

Great videos on your channel, out of curiosity would the pleats stay in after the fabric is washed?
If you use a polyester then you can wash the pleated fabric at 30 degrees.

I made a sunray mold, about a year ago....once you get to the tiny bits in the middle, it really gets difficult!
You have to make sure the fold is in the exact place accuracy is the most important thing
I didn't cut out the center...it came to a point.

Yes it can but the pleats will crease when you wear the fabric.
What happens in that box type room where they keep pattern
It's a steam cabinet and this sets the pleats. You have to let it cool down after for around 45 minutes.

What is the fabric which you used for pattern ?
The pattern is made from 200gsm card. The fabric we pleated was polyester as this holds the pleat longer than any other.

You can't iron these pleats. The heat will get rid of the pleat. You need to use pure polyester. This can be washed in a machine and hung dry.
