Good call on the fuel lines esp once you described old gunk gas.

Nice score on the factory service manual. I trust those a lot more! You might be able to find a service kit for the factory mechanical fuel pump. It should be a new diaphragm and seal and gasket, way cheaper if you can find it.

if the gas is thick and varnished be careful beacause it can stick the intake valves in the guides if it sat with old varnished gas for a long time
