      @@djten7446 attended a basketball camp in the early 70's in the province of Ontario. Archie was the NBA guest player at the camp. Best player of the camp, Ivor Lewis out of Montreal, challenges Archie to a 1 on 1 match, Archie is two steps past Ivor before he can even react to the shake and bake move. Always remember how deadly quick that move was. Still have a pic of AC from the camp.

      @@nvan78 You must have just saw my Archie Clark video. Yes, Archie was smooth as silk! And to me, it was HIM who started sported those beards. Not LeBron or James Harden! And around 1972 when I was 13, I went to Willis Reed's basketball camp and I met Bill Bradley and Dick Barnett.

    Great upload, loved it. Archie was a certified baller, said to be one of the very 1st to pull the shake-n-bake regularly, he had a great crossover dribble while the rules were much stricter as far as that. He could handle the rock, shoot, finish and playmake. One of the best guards, in the NBA, from late 1960's until the early 70's.

      Yep, most definitely. That's why some of these younger players, even retired guys like Allen Iverson and Tim Hardaway, Sr., need to watch these guys. Especially Tim and AI and they will see that they DID NOT invent the crossover! They may have made a little more dynamic but that's about it. The REAL king of the crossover was Bob Cousy!

      Absolutely true! I learned that crossover move and it became one of my major points in learning the skill of dribbling the basketball when I was a young player I never forgot Archie Clark! One of my favorite all-time guards of all times.

    I remember watching this game on TV as a kid and hearing about someone stealing Monroe's jersey before the game. Never forgot that! Clark was indeed a bit of a hot dog back in the day, and the following season, would be replaced by another high steppin' hot dog...Kevin Porter. Oh, how I wish the NBA and the networks had not erased tapes from this era. You always love the most, what you learn and see as a child. Early 70's NBA was my childhood. Thanks for sharing!

      Collectorofstuff No problem. I still have got Hayes and Chenier to highlight on the Bullets this game, than I'll be moving on to the Knicks squad. Also the Bucks squad from the game of Kareem's debut. I've got a few more complete games I'll try and pull highlights from after these as well.

    Clark did alright for the Lakers way back in the day (was an All-Star in '68, deservedly so), but he was secretly holding Gail Goodrich back on that team and it cost them DEARLY in the sense that they consequently lost both players in the 1968 offseason: Clark being packaged in that blockbuster deal to land Wilt Chamberlain from the Sixers (GREAT trade for L.A., btw) and losing Goodrich to the Suns in that expansion draft (that move REALLY hurt them, considering how close the Lakers were to winning back-to-back titles in '69 and '70 while Goodrich became a bonafide All-Star SG overnight with the Suns the moment he was finally allowed to start in their backcourt for once).

    • @PerformancePinnacle
      @PerformancePinnacle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PeekaPeep no disrespect but I think you have your years a little mixed up. The Lakers didn't win the Championship until 72. Jerry West finally got one. Too bad it wasn't against the Celtics. He and Goodrich were the starting guards on that team that won 33 straight games along with Jim McMillan, Happy Hairston, and Chamberlain. Sadly, one of my all time favorites, Elgin Baylor, retired that year and never got to get a ring.

    • @PeekaPeep
      @PeekaPeep 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerformancePinnacle No disrespect, but I think you misunderstood my comment. I was bringing up how the Lakers losing Goodrich to the Suns in the expansion draft may have cost them those back-to-back NBA title opportunities back in '69 and '70 because of how he ended up blossoming during that time span as a starting 2-guard for Phoenix. Of course they finally won it in '72 AFTER getting Goodrich back the previous season, but an aging injury-riddled Baylor had to bow out for them to even begin that run to the championship and even he himself admitted as much to coach Sharman when it became apparent he was no longer cutting it for the Lakers as a starter and ultimately decided to retire instead of coming off the bench to minimize any further wear-and-tear to his body.
