SMACK Buttons:
‣ Extra Punch: Shapes the initial transients of the incoming signal as well as the compressor's envelope settings for a punchier feel.

Drums are arguably one of the most important elements in any beat but especially in genres like hip hop. We all want our drums to knock and hit hard and one of the ways to do that is to create perceived loudness through a combination of volume, saturation, harmonics, and compression.
With that being said today I want to share with you a new plugin that I've been enjoying a lot called Parallel Aggressor by Baby Audio that can help your drums or any sound stand out.
Baby Audio is a relatively new company to the audio world but don't let that fool you, this is their 4th plugin on the market and each of them is fantastic.
In any case, Parallel Aggressor is a combination of a compressor and a saturation plugin that makes adding some punch to your sounds a breeze and in this video, I show you how to use it to make your drums stand out in your mix.

If you don't want to deal with more complex tape, saturation, parallel processing, but still want the effects that they bring, then this is a great, cheap and easy way to start to get that sound.
I'd also say that Baby Audio's stuff is great for content creation. Maybe if you are mixing a track for a 2 minute video on your social, you want something that can give you all the elements of a fullly mixed track without having to spend hours dialing in multiple elements on multiple tracks.

I don't like the sound of this plugin. It takes away more than it adds character wise and that doesn't make it a positive point that the processed sounds are more cutting through. They are thin and dead and sound like upward compressed. The saturation is not tunable and so it doesn't fit in many mixing cases. This plugin has to be used by extreme trained ears only and best in a subtle way imo. Cheers
