There are many good compressors for parallel compression. One of the best I could give as example is the Dyna-Mite Slam.

Phil Collins used the dbx163 in his homestudio and later he took it to the studio. Thats the agressive "spitty" vocal sound on "Mama". Great video Warren. 🤘

Grabbing it now for testing on dialogue. Looks like a fine bag of tricks, easy to tweak. Love that interface design. The parallel mixing aspect of the plugin got the most screen space. I'm quite curious how well that'll work out for dialogue mixing.
Sidenote: It looks like the delay compensation of Protools was what caused the irregular drum and bass guitar timings as you bypassed the plugin during live playback. Stop and start will fix that.

Brings me right back in the past, you can't imagine how much dbx 163's I've installed, mostly in supermarkets to level their music. It was easy to use, and it did it job very well, and weren't that expensive at that time. So I still have something with that dbx 163. With all dbx products in general, in my circle, they call me Mr dbx. Earning that nickname because I'm so good at tweaking those things. Also BSS compressors were great. You are right, this is a pleasant plugin. I use a Vertigo VSC-2 VCA compressor for parallel compression. But this one is also a good one. Cheers Warren.

The tilt eq into the internal sidechain is reminiscent of “THRUST” on the API 2500. This would be a great compressor for someone just starting out or someone that doesn’t have an array of choices already. I personally have a huge range of compressors to choose from from UAD, SSL native, PA and many more which I can do anything with that this compressor does. But it is neat to see a plugin with the ability to cover so much ground inside one plugin.

That's very smart. What it seems to lack is a button that switches between upward and downward compression and why is there no adjustable threshold - am I missing something obvious? Of course I'd also like expansion and a gate and while we're at it: let's have negative compression too! But those three wishes are probably too greedy and would lead to too many buttons and thus confusion.
Thanks Paul, for the not-so-subtle-blinking-hypnosis, combined with a lot of valuable information about the plugin -that probably gets triggered to be remembered everytime we see a blinking light now-. I feel like the visual representation of the compression, harmonics and EQs in plugin doctor added well to the already "educational" character of this plugin and showed why they chose this design. However I don't like that the plugin adds harmonics by default, I think that should be optional.
Personally I think BabyAudio is doing a great job overall and add a lot especially in terms of intuitive design. I don't think this is a plugin I will need, but this is the plugin I would have needed back when I didn't understand compressors at all. Thanks Warren for bringing together so many knowledgeable people on top of yourself, you're truely a rather selfless connector (aside from everything else you obviously are well known for).

I whole heatedly agree with P3rd on adding oversampling to every compressor plugin as a mandatory thing, unless they have zero harmonics/saturation/distortion in them which is pointless nowadays for the most part, on mix compressors...mastering's a different conversation. With so many analog'esque compressor plugins out, every single one of them introduces aliasing, mud'ing up the mix when you talking about 200 channels or so! And I can hear it in songs that everyone listens to nowadays! Especially on tracks with real instruments, like anything besides rap and edm and pop! Point is, all plugin makers need to put oversampling on their plugins as an option to turn on and off, if they have any harmonics, saturation, and are emulating an analog counterpart! If they don't have it, don't use it...period. Might be fine on 1 single track. But when you've got 5 or 6 plugins that you use across 50 different tracks, whether directly on the track or on a buxx/aux, it very fucking matters, and will make you track sound worse than without it!

Check out your stock compressors (-and plugins), BEFORE you pay your well earned money for some brand plugins that you probably don't need anyway. You already have got them in your DAW. I use Reaper myself, and the plugins are certainly not eye candy. BUT they sound fantastic! And, so do YOUR stock plugins (no matter what DAW you are using). No company will release a DAW today with poor quality plugins today. Guaranteed! Just ask Warren.✌(I must admit the IHNY 2 sounds amazing, though...)
