I’ve had my ‘21 Monkey for two years and commented on your channel before. It sits beside my Super Glide. I cannot take that little bike anywhere without drawing a small crowd of smiles. It always makes me smile and I’m a kid again when riding it. Isn’t that the idea? I love it.

That’s EXACTLY what it does… and the good part is, it never gets old.
I’ve had mine going on 3 years and it’s the same feeling every time. I can’t get that helmet on fast enough!!😂

Great description of your experience riding the Monkey. I am 65 and grew up with mini bikes. For our riding generation, they reignite the joyous inner experience and memories of our childhood. They remind us of how much dang fun they are to ride and bring back the carefree kid that we once were.
I am fairly old and have had my share of major setbacks in life. Life can be pretty cruel. But when I ride my Monkey, I am 13 again with a big smile on my face.

I COULD NOT have said that better.
As we age, we change mentally as well as physically.
We begin to realize the past means more to us now than the present meant to us then. We thought we’d always be young, that old was just for “old people” lol.
There’s very few things that can “take you back” left in this world for our age group. For me, it’s fishing and that Honda Monkey. When I hold and cast a fishing rod or have the handle bar grips in my hands and the foot pegs under my feet on that Monkey, your right, 13 again.
      Thanks for watching!!
Ride on and be careful out there!!

I'm 65 and used to sit and watch those bikes ride the trails in my childhood neighborhood. I would ride my friends a lot since he had 3 at his house with two other brother's. I finally bought the Honda xl 125 when I was 16 and had a part-time job. When my son turned 7 I got him a new Honda 50cc and l loved watching him on it bringing so many memories back to me. I'm so tempted to get one of these but my wife thinks I'm nuts....

@@tomhesse2015 😂 Man, all that brings back some memories. My Dad built go cart frames for a racetrack in the 60s so there was always a go cart or mini bike around here. Some were nice, some were barely rideable 🙄😉. I was almost killed on a go cart in a neighbor’s backyard and Mom sorta put a stop to it until I got into my early teens and I came home with a YZ125😳 lol.
I bought my son a small 3.5hp BAJA mini bike. He rode it to death, I loved watching him going around the yard but for whatever reason, he grew out of it and I sold the little mini bike.
I bought an old Harley Sportster and got stuck in that rut for years.
Finally, 2019 rolls around, the Monkey makes its debut and in 2020 the last Harley goes away for the Monkey. The Monkey is a Time Machine. A small simple machine and a small simple word “fun”. Big things come in small packages.

Cause I knew nothing about how motors used the rd. . now age 61 I wanna ride monkey or Dax or CT 125.supercun .I think I'll like the clutch control element of the monkey. I have always enjoyed cheap to run things frugal is fun imo and I don't have to worry about costs then. So I thinks it's monkey or Dax.i usually wanna scoot around town. Car for.longer trips.

      Thank you my friend!!
They say “The Truth will set you free”… I feel like that’s what the Honda z50/Monkey and the Trail70 have been doing since the 60s. They set us free, free to dream about “when we get older” what it would be like to be adults cruising down Route66 or doing the BAJA 1000
Now here they are back again reminding us what that “freedom” was all about. There’s no greater Truth than freedom of the road. The Monkey allows you to see things, because you’re not blowing past it at 80mph.
That’s the truth and nothing but the truth…
Thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot!

      Hey there,
You know, there’s a lot of versions of freedom out there and everyone has their idea of what it takes to feel free. For some, it’s jumping out of airplanes, or climbing mountains. Maybe fixing up an old car and driving across the country side or bicycling through Europe but for a small group of us, the kids of the 60s and 70s, we found a freedom behind the handlebars of a single cylinder, two wheeled, adrenaline maker. Didn’t matter if it was powered by a 3hp Briggs and came from Western Auto or had a kick start, a clutchless 4speed and said Z50 on the side.
We, the trail taming, dirt flinging, white knuckle, helmetless, mini bikers of the 60s and 70s, though we’re in our 50s and 60s now, Honda once again is offering us a chance to feel that way again..For me, it’s the Monkey 125 and it sounds like it’s the same for you.
For some, maybe the Dax, maybe the CT125 but regardless of which one you choose, I personally feel like $4500 is worth getting to feel that again. Hopefully, you’ll feel the same way I did when I brought my Monkey home, got on it and pulled out of the driveway for first time.
Let me know how it goes Brother!!
Thanks for watching and telling your story!!

      Hey there!
It’s funny how two wheels, a seat, handle bars, and a single “small” cylinder can make a person feel inside.. there’s plenty of cool machines out there, like Harley Davidson , Indian, Yamaha, Honda, Triumph, or whatever make or model your into, it has to make you feel good about riding it and has to make you “want” to ride it. In 2019, Honda made something (again) that brought out memories for those of us who want to ride but want it to be more and mean more than just going for a ride.. the Monkey does that for thousands of people, I think that’s freakin’ cool.. 😎
Congratulations on your purchase, I’d love to have a newer one as well. (I have two now, both 2020s) I’d like to see how that 5th gear acts and have an oil filter to change..
      Thanks for watching !!

      Hey there,
I know how you feel. I dropped my Harley and it took 3 of us to pick it back up.
I was embarrassed, mad, depressed… that’s when it sunk in that I wasn’t a kid anymore and the “fun” I should be having riding motorcycles had become more of a habit and owning more than 6 different Harley-Davidsons, I’d conformed to the “in thing” as opposed to the “fun” thing riding was as a kid.
I had seen the Monkey when it made its debut in 2019. I remember seeing a yellow/white one somewhere and saying, Man, that looks like a good time, but I let it go.
Needless to say, when I was straining to lift that Harley with two other gentlemen back to its wheels, looking at the busted $500 fiberglass saddlebag, scratched up $$600 left side faring. I told myself sublimely, I’ve had enough of this crap. It’s time to have “fun” again.
One day later, the Harley was loaded up in a trailer and I was on my way to Timbrook Honda in Winchester, Va. and came home with a Monkey… I haven’t looked back.
The Monkey may not be for everyone but I can say confidently I’ve met more that DO love it then don’t.
I can’t imagine NOT having it..
Thanks for watching, I truly appreciate it and good luck with your decision, let me know what you decide.

I got a 2021 monkey & I honestly love the thing & I'm 33. It isn't as fast as my 2022 KTM 390 Duke but I find it hard to get off it when the day is over. It's a blast. I got a full yoshimura RS3 exhaust, a mnnthbx intake & it's just honestly a blast. I get so many compliments asking me at gas stations how old it is. They are absolutely blown away when I tell them it's a 2021. Lol. Everything you said about it nailed it right on the head! Good vid man!

      Hey Thanks Man!!
I can only imagine that “Honda” is asking themselves at this point, “Why didn’t we build this thing sooner??”😆
Sounds like you’ve got yours fixed up pretty nice. Been thinking about an exhaust for mine as well. 🤔
I was in a Motorcycle shop in Richmond Virginia today, a new red /white Monkey with the plaid seat was sitting there. The salesman said, they had just pushed out from the back about 15 ago. I was there 7 minutes tops. Someone (a man and woman) came in, walked directly to it and bought the bike on a credit card😃
I told him, you won’t regret it and went on to explain that I also owned one. We talked for about 5 minutes. I gave him what advice I could. He said, he had been watching TH-cam videos and there was a guy in Williamsburg that he watched that helped him make his decision… He went on… I smiled and said, “yeah, I’ve seen him too”… he was talking about me😂😂😂
I told him congratulations, shook his hand, got in my truck and came home. 😊
For every one, such as yourself, that feel the same as I do about that little machine, it tells me that the world stills has a few people out there that realizes there’s more to life than drive thrus, cell phones, video games, and reality TV😂there’s a little machine made by Honda that will allow you to giggle like a 10 year old on Christmas morning and there’s thousands of others right there with ya.
I appreciate you watching and commenting. Sorry about the long story!! 😂

Hi Willie, Love your videos. I’m also a member of the early 50’s club. I’ve ridden my 2019 Honda Monkey for three summers now and I love it. I’m 6’ tall and I honestly find the bike very comfortable. This year, my brother bought a 2020 Honda Super Cub and we had a blast riding all over on our little Hondas! 😀It felt like when we were kids riding our stingray style 20” bicycles all over. This summer our typical Saturday was covering 100-120 miles on little back roads and catching breakfast or lunch out and about. Looking forward to planning some longer trips in the future. We live in WI, so we just put the Hondas away for winter. It was a sad day. Hard to think we have to wait almost six months to get them out and ride again. 😢 Ride safe and keep the videos coming!

      Hey there!!
Thank you so much for watching!!
We old Dudes have to stick together!! Or at least follow each other to pick up the pieces 😂.
It’s very hard to explain just how much fun it is to ride a Monkey.
You’ve got to have that little kid still hiding deep inside.
I’m glad you have a riding partner.
As of yet, I haven’t seen another Monkey around here.
I had to drive almost 4 hours to get mine. Was there from the time they opened and left at 4 o’clock in the afternoon to make the 4 hour drive back home.
I was lucky to find one, even then.
      Much harder now.
I’ve seen a few Groms but even they are a little bit different group.
We “older generation” like the Monkey because of what it reminds us of. Our youth. The younger generation likes the Grom because it’s slightly inexpensive and the “in thing” but we all still get along, which is awesome.
I’ve got a few trips in store for next year myself. Now that I’ve got my Toyota running as close to “correctly” as I can at the moment. I’m gonna put the Monkey in the back and do some traveling.
I’m extremely eager to say the least.
I might still have a few good riding days before I put him away for the season.
We definitely don’t have the extreme cold like you do.
Please let me know how you and your brother doing from time to time and if you ever get to Virginia, let me know. I’ve lived here all my life, I’ll show you around!!

      Hey there!🤠
I “very” much appreciate your comment.
As we age, everyday life tends to become a bit of a repetitive Mary-go-round. Work, marriage, parenthood, bills, mortgages..etc.. the American Dream!
It all has a tendency to make our memories less solid and more ghost like. However, it may only take one thing, a trigger, like a smell, or a sound, the sight of something to take us back to a time we may have completely forgotten due to our ever changing world.
For us, and thousands of others around the planet, these tiny little machines known as “mini bikes” bring back something. Something that even though our aging bodies may struggle to recreate, our minds immediately flip a switch that can subconsciously smell the gasoline, the exhaust, feel the heat from the engine. Even feel the grips in your hands, the foot pegs under your feet, or the seat.
The Honda Monkey did that for me. When I got on it at the dealership, it was 1975.
      A two wheeled, 9hp time machine… Best purchase ever😉.

@@nohandle956 Al, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Sounds like you and I may have had close to the same two wheeled childhood.
My Dad use to work on and weld up go carts for a local racetrack in the late 60s and early 70s so I was always around some form of small engine powered mini bike or go cart.
Then I progressed to the “shifter bikes” as my Dad called them.
Had a bunch of little Hondas, Yamahas, and Kawasakis. That of course grew into Harley Davidsons, which I’ve had quite a number of and even a 03 Triumph.
But for a while now it felt like something was missing. The “fun” that I was “supposed” to be having wasn’t really there.
Then I dropped my last Harley in a gravel parking lot and something snapped.
When I got home that afternoon, I got on line, found a shop 4 hours a way that had 3 Monkeys and the rest as they say, was history, a long with the Harley😂.
I took a little grief for trading the Harley for a Monkey but as I told them, it’s not about you or Harley, it’s about me. If “I’m not enjoying the ride, if I’m walking past the Harley in the garage like an ex-girlfriend on the street, why do I have this bike?”
Needless to say, I’ve never made a better purchase.. The little bike has brought back that feeling. The feeling you got as a kid, sitting at the end of your driveway on some little mini bike, waiting for it to be clear so you can take off down the street like a renegade😂.
On the Monkey, you’re “seeing” what you’ve been passing by. You’re feeling the bike’s limitations instead yours, it’s actually a very cool feeling, but you know what I mean😉. You’ve been there.

Yes, there’s plenty of bikes out there that’ll do the physical labor better but for dang sure won’t do it with the style and flair that the Monkey does it.
The Monkey wasn’t something that was just an idea, it was Gods plan lol. I mean think about it, it came out at the perfect time in our lives where it became a little fountain of youth on wheels.
It fills a void for some of us that, speaking for myself, was really needed.
When we first started riding, it was “fun” to be able to hop on the machine, whatever it may have been, and explore. Then we got older and we bought bigger versions and did the same thing, explored because it was “fun”.
But For me, something happened. I got wrapped up in having to have something that commanded respect instead of something softly calling me in a subliminal way to go for a ride.
      Enter the Monkey…
I now remember why I wanted to ride in the first place.. you don’t need a $30,000, 100hp, deafening, land rocket to have “fun”, $4 grand, 9 pretty silent hp, and a big fluffy seat😄does it just fine!! Stay safe out there and

Congratulations on your choice of motorcycle my friend!!
It’s funny how such a simple machine has changed what and how people ride these days.
I know that the Monkey isn’t for “everyone” but thousands of people can’t be wrong😂!!
It makes you smile, it makes you “want” to ride it, it gets looks from everyone, it gets great gas mileage, it makes you look and see things, and most of all…it’s fun.
I intend to change my rear shocks soon but that’s about it, I’m pretty happy with its performance otherwise. Specifically the seat!! 😂
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I appreciate it very much!!
If the weather ever gets itself together around here there’s going to be a lot more coming on the Ol Honda Monkey!! Stay tuned!!

      Hey there!
Sometimes when people ask me to tell the truth about the Monkey, it’s almost as if the “want me to say” it stinks and I wish I had never bought it😁.
Well, that’s just not true. I’ve enjoyed every single mile I’ve put on it and look VERY forward to all the additional miles I will put on it and man do I have some plans for this spring/summer.
I caught some attitude from a few for getting rid of my Harley-Davidson to get the Monkey. I’m someone who likes to “bond” with their vehicle no matter if it’s a car, truck, skateboard, or motorcycle. If I don’t like what I’m driving or riding on, it just brings me down. That’s what my Harley had done. It was just “another Harley”, nothing special. That Monkey changed everything about that.
Glad you enjoyed the video, extremely glad you’re enjoying your “second Monkey” ( I’m envious of that by the way🥹) and thank you so much for watching!

I have a blue 21 model and feel exactly the same way. Took off to visit my fathers grave one Sunday last summer, its a 92 mile one way trip. It was very windy and sometimes couldn't get more then 38 mph while pinned and then 65 mph with the wind at my back. It's just so peaceful to get on a county road and just meander. Worst fuel mileage I got was 92 mpg and the best is about 125. It's really hard to put into words how cruising on a Monkey makes a guy feel!!

      Hey there!!
Yes, that little machine, that really isn’t much bigger than a child’s mini bike has a big heart and it just can’t help giving.
I believe that it’s weakness is also it’s strength. The lack of power, not being to haul a lot, is what makes it such a “thoughtful” little machine. It makes you see the things you take for granted when you’re running 80mph in a car just trying to get somewhere.
I’ve been watching a lot of TH-cam lately and I truly envy those who have the back roads that are lesser traveled. I unfortunately don’t really have that in my area and the ones I do have I’ve ridden 1000 times.
So recently, Ive been longing for some camping trips where I can put the Monkey in the back of the truck, go camp, go fishing, and take the Monkey on some explorations.
      C’mon Spring!!! 😄

I just bought a new 2022 Grom and I was decided on it. Wenn I arrived at the shop, the new Honda Dax 125cc stood right beside the Grom. I tell you, I was so close to buying the Dax. I always wanted Dax wenn I was a kid and seeing it really brought me back. I ended up with the Grom, since it fits my needs better, but man that Dax is so cute😍

Man, I understand completely!! I think if the Dax had a manual clutch, I’d get one myself.
However, it’s really just a Monkey with a different look but I can totally understand wanting them all😂. Grom, Monkey, Dax, CT125…
I’m actually looking at getting something a little larger just for traveling further distances and being able to do at least 55mph and carrying some weight without torturing the Monkey.
The key is, getting what “you” want and not worrying about what everyone else is doing.
They’re all fun in their own way. For me, that Monkey brings back some extremely good memories..
Enjoy your Grom and let me know how it’s going!!

I’m brand new to motorcycles in my mid-40s. I’ve ridden with friends and my parents both had one when I was little. My husband wants me to start out on a HD Roadster but I keep finding myself drawn to the Monkey.

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there,
Well, we all have to start somewhere and for me it was little mini bikes from the late 60s and 70s so I’ve been riding most all of my life.
Dirt bikes, Harleys, Triumphs…I’ve owned quite a few and That’s putting it mildly…
There’s nothing wrong with any of them but I can tell you this, I found myself owning certain bikes because of their name, because of their status, and because it seemed like that was the next step.
I assume what you meant was “Sportster” earlier in your comment or maybe there is a Roadster by now in Harleys line up, lol. I’m honestly not sure.
I’ve owned about 6 different Harley’s in my time. From Sportsters, Dynas, Heritage, Springer… I loved them and rode them quite a bit so I can’t tell you “not” to get one and buy a Monkey instead. What I can tell you is don’t ride outside your ability or comfort zone.
I switched to the Monkey because I wasn’t enjoying the ride anymore. The last Harley I owned, a 2012 Dyna Switchback, sat in my garage like a piece of furniture. It never really said “Hey, let’s go for a ride”… if you understand what I mean. I wasn’t drawn to it or looked forward to riding it.
I decided one day I was going to make a video on “fishing from a Harley”. I rode about 60 miles to the lake, tried to stop on a hill, the gravel slid under my left foot and I dropped it on its side. I destroyed the fiberglass saddle bag, the front fearing was all scratched up and it took three full grown men to stand it back up on its wheels.
I rode it home and the next day I was on my way to Winchester, Va. (4 hour drive) where I traded the Harley in on my 2020 Honda Monkey. I haven’t been happier and I do not regret it at all. I’ve had more “Fun” on that little bike than I’ve had in years. But…that’s me… not everyone shared my excitement.
A Sportster is a great bike, easy to find, and somewhat inexpensive.
You can go highway speeds, which the Monkey can “not” do, but you can ride back roads, trails, and city streets all day.
So really, it depends on what you want to do… as long as you don’t mind running above 50-55mph, the Monkey is great. It’s very “rider friendly” and gets a lot of looks.
Otherwise, the Sportster may be a better bet. However, I don’t know your riding ability, height, and how important it is to your husband for you to have a Harley, lol. 😂
The best I can tell you is, do your homework. Sit on a Sportster, feel it, it’s twice the weight of a Monkey and taller, make sure it’s comfortable. Do the same with a Monkey (if you can find one🙄) and whatever you’re drawn to, give it a shot. You’re the one behind the handlebars, whatever you get needs to make you happy. I can say this, you’ll probably find a good used Sportster cheaper and easier than you will find a New Monkey, but you might get lucky. The choice is really up to you what you want. If it’s not fun, why do it? And that goes for any Motorcycle.
When you think about either of them, which one makes you smile?
I hope I helped you some, I know it can be a confusing time.
Good luck and let me know how it goes no matter which way.
      Thanks for watching!!

Christmas day 1976 🤩 I lived next to a Honda dealership in North Reading Massachusetts, called the Honda barn. I would go over there every day after school, all the salesman knew me and wish they didn’t. 😂
My mother would come and get me, and they would beg her to just buy me the thing already! After months of collecting brochures, because it would fall apart into two pieces from me looking at it. I finally received my Z 50 in yellow of course. 😊 This may seem odd, but I still remember the smell of the dealership and the smell of that little Z50.

Man, that truly is an awesome memory. ☺️
I think for a lot of us out there, there’s thousands of stories, that in that same way, get brought out because of this little machine.
      I’ll tell you mine,
It was about 1974, my older brother decided that putting his 5 year old brother (me) on a running red and white Z50 was a good idea. I grabbed the throttle because that’s what I’d seen him do and I took off out of his grip, running straight into a Frazier fur Christmas tree my mother had planted several years before. It bogged, fell over and shut off, my brother reached in to the tree, pulled me out while I laughed and said “can I do it again?”
      I never looked back.
      Been riding ever since.
It’s days like that, when I sit on that Monkey, I almost want to call the heads of Honda and ask them, do you have any idea what you’ve done??? Lol

I think the appeal of the Monkey is, that less is more, as is with the SV650.
It's minimalistic, you have more time to actually enjoy the scenery and the ride.

      Hey there!!
It’s funny how we put things we’ve only seen pictures of up on a pedestal without having any idea if it’s worthy of the the attention and Rock Star status we’ve bestowed upon it. All the while, crossing our fingers and praying that it’s everything we dreamed it would be and more.
I traded my Harley Davidson for the Monkey you see in this video, never had ridden one, never had sat on one, never had seen one in person… and drove 5 hours one way to make the deal, talk about a gamble.
I was nervous but once I got there, seen it, sat on it.. it was just what I needed.
I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever… as a matter of fact, I just bought another one, that’s how much I love the little things.
But that’s me… you’ll have to make your own decision, but you’re very right about the “way” you ride it, it allows you to see what’s “in-between” point A and point (?) and for me, that’s what riding is about.
      Good luck on your search!!

I ve had every kind of bike. Ive got a Triumph 900 SS, along with a Monkey. What I like is the maneuverability and it keeps me at a nice slow pace to take in scenery and grin. No I can't throw it into a power slide at 70mph on a dirt road, or blast by people on the road. But I can throw it around, put it in the truck, take it anywhere easy, to ride anywhere.

Hey there!! Growing up, I had all kinds of mini bikes right up to the larger bikes like KX’s, YZ’s, DR’s . Then the Harleys and even a Triumph Bonneville T100 but I always had a couple mini bikes of some kind just hanging around because they were “fun”… a different kinda kinda fun. Not that 70mph power slide kinda fun 🤩 but that , go off the trail through the woods making a trail or squeeze between the fences to ride down the edge of the creek or just taking off out the driveway through the neighborhood because you knew the neighbors hated it😂.
The Monkey brings those days back but as a bonus, it’s legal to drive on the road. 😃

Second year owning a 22 pearl black monkey. I consider selling it everyday to get a bigger bike. Everyday I come to the conclusion that I would miss it so bad because of how amazing and fun riding it is. Plus for less than 500 in upgrades it looks even better and just feels like it's truly mine. Idk if I'll sell it but I know I'll never get to find another bike that's as fun.

Isn’t it funny how an inanimate object can take on a personality?
I love the little machine but it does have its limitations.
However, you can’t take away the riding experience.
It’s the most fun I’ve ever had going “medium” speed😄.
I recently purchased a Royal Enfield Himalayan. Not because I like it better than the Monkey but simply because of where the Monkey’s capabilities end, the Himalayan takes over.
I also did a video on why a have them both, in that video I said, when I want to go for a “ride” it’s the Monkey that I get on..
Without saying a word, the Monkey Screams “let’s go for a ride!!”…
I’ll never let mine go, it’s just WAY to much fun!! 😃

      Congratulations on your purchase.
I actually gave a thought to getting a newer Monkey so I could have 5th gear and an easier oil change but I’m ok with my 2020 for now.
I actually got my Monkey up to 64mph before I had to slow down due to traffic.
I haven’t ridden a newer version like yours but I would say if I can run 64mph you should be able to due the same with less strain having 5th gear🤔. Just make sure you break it in before you push it too hard.
I have a blast on the little thing every time I go out on it.
I’ve had a lot of comments out in public as well. Doesn’t matter what the others are riding, they all seem to love the little Monkey, which says a lot about its personality.
I’ve got a few trips in mind this summer and as soon as Mother Nature drinks her coffee, calms down a bit, and figures out what type of weather she wants around here, I’ll get started on them.
Again, congratulations on the purchase of your Monkey!! Keep me informed on how it’s going out there, and be careful!! Thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot!!

Hi - it's Big Rodders in Ireland with his 2020 Yellow Monkey. I did a lot of research on the gearing on the 4 & 5 speed Monkeys as I was tempted to upgrade.
They have identical speeds at maximum power so the only advantage of the 5 speed in my view is for trail riding because 1st gear on the 4 speed is too high. However, I now stick to tarred roads and the bike is perfect, perhaps somewhat superior to the 5 speed due to less gear changing.

      @@rodneysweetnam8653 Hey Buddy!!
That’s is some great information that couldn’t have came at a better time!!
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking recently, and I mean as recent as July 3rd… which was yesterday, about getting another Monkey, maybe even trading in my Royal Enfield to do so.
      Mainly because of three things.
1- I just plain love riding the Monkey, I just wish it had a little more top end speed. So I was hoping that 5th gear would provide it.
2- Having the oil filter. Easier oil changes.
3- And finally, I just absolutely love riding the Monkey.
I love the Himalayan as well but the Monkey is just more fun, lighter, and makes you want to go for a ride.
But, I’m extremely glad you commented your newly detected information because I was VERY close to getting another, newer Monkey, but I’m not letting the Himalayan go for something that’s 99% identical to what I already have.
Again, I thank you very much for the alert!!

    • @rodneysweetnam8653
      @rodneysweetnam8653 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Big Rodders again. Another reason why I didn't upgrade to the 5 speed is that the new colour schemes just aren't as cute. This year's models now have the coloured frames again but the black wheels are dreary compared to my silver ones. I change my oil every 1000 miles and I have a second chain that I swap over at the same time. I clean and dry the chain just removed and boil it in special grease before storing it away when cooled to be used in 1000 miles time. The frequent oil and chain changes coupled with fastidious attention to correct chain tension ensures perfect gear changes. I seldom ride at full throttle, preferring to leave it at 1/2 to 2/3 opening where it will sit at 50mph all day returning 150 miles per imperial gallon, approx 124 per US gallon. I've done 8000 miles in over 3 years and am delighted I didn't upgrade - my Monkey is a keeper!

@@rodneysweetnam8653 I’m definitely not a fan of the new colors. And what is up with the “plaid” seat???😳
I like the old school two/tone much better for sure.
I pushed the Monkey on the Nags Head trip but I wanted to know what it was going to do if I did decide to take a much longer journey.
As I’ve said, I like the Himalayan but Id MUCH rather ride the Monkey.
I have changed the oil earlier than what they considered necessary as well, nothing wrong with that in any way.

I'll bet that little bike can really stretch a gallon of gas. About fifteen years I bought a 50cc minibike. My younger son was in high school at the time. He loved driving it to his summer job and didn't need a license to drive it because of the engine size.. I only paid $400 for it new, so it was really economical and got about 100 miles to the gallon of gas. I really regret selling it now, but when it came time to move to a new town in a different state I just didn't want to haul it. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, but they sure are alot more expensive to buy now.

      Hey Dan!!
Depending on your speed and how hard you’re pushing it, the best I’ve done is about 128 miles out of a tank. It’s 1 1/2 gallons.
A lot of my riding puts me around roads that are 45-55mph and that puts a bit of a strain on the little guy.
It’s so much fun to ride, wish it had just a liiiiittle more HP but then it wouldn’t be a Monkey…

I owned many two wheeled machines growing up Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, and many Harleys, from Sportsters, Dynas, Heritage, Springer, and a couple Triumphs, and here I find myself back to the beginning. Where it feels strangely familiar. Right in the pit of your stomach, where you almost giggle, like a kid sitting in the driveway on a 60s hardware store mini bike, looking to make sure no one is around before you take off down the street. 😁

I got my Monkey in May 22. Only two complaints, (1) The horn/indicator switches being reversed to everybody else, and (2) The speedo being hard to see in bright sunlight. Everything else is just praise for the little chap, especially the petrol consumption, the worst I have had is 150mpg and the best is 175 mpg, (our gallon is 25% bigger than a U.S. gallon). Is it the best bike I have ever had ? Quite possibly, if not it is in the top 5. Thank you for the ride round your neck of the woods.

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there!!
It was delight to read your comment because I also find the the horn/indicator switches a bit of an issue😂. I always find myself having to “look” for the horn button in order to use it.
I also mentioned at some point, in one of my earlier videos that the Speedo/dash had a terrible glare when the sun hits it😎.
I think the only other two issues I have with “my” monkey being a 2020, is it being a 4sp instead of a 5 not having the changeable oil filter. A little better choice of tire would’ve been nice as well. Something more 50/50. The standard tire is definitely more “road oriented” and it does not do well on anything other than pavement.
However you look at it, this little machine makes us smile and look forward to the next ride. Great gas mileage, dependability, good looks, and the ability to make everyone smile. Very few, if any other motorcycles can do all that.
If the weather ever gets warmer around here (Virginia) there will be many more adventures and explorations to come… I’ve almost ran my pen dry writing down all the ideas!! 😃
Thank you so much for watching and sharing about the Monkey!!
      I appreciate it very Much!!

I think that Honda needs to put in the paperwork upon signing when you purchase, if you own a Honda Monkey, you always have to be prepared to “talk about it”… At gas pumps, traffic Lights, parking lots… etc..

I understand what you mean about having a larger second bike. I recently did that very thing.

I actually made videos on the event, from purchase, to recent. The 4th session will be coming out next Wednesday. Not sure what you’re in the market for but if you’re like me, you want something that serves all purposes, is economical, and most of all, fun. Hello just curious about what are the accessories you have put on your Honda monkey. Thank you

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there!
Thanks for asking. My list of accessories is extremely short, lol.
More of a “needs” list than a “wants” list…
I have a USB charging port (Amazon) that I ran from the battery to the handlebar riser that can charge to devices. It also has an on/off switch to keep it from draining the battery.
I added a phone holder (Amazon) that actually destroyed the camera in my phone so, no more mounting the phone on it. I modified it to hold an older GPS and it does that quite well.
I added a rack to the rear that I over weighted and it bent(Lots of trial and error) That was removed and also modified to strengthen it up to handle the milk crate and two Pelican boxes. I also added two fishing rod holders to the rear of the milk crate. Also added a Harley Davidson sissy bar seat pad to the front of the milk crate and angled it slightly so I can lean against it on longer journeys.
      That’s about it.
Not going to say there isn’t a few other things I’d like to do but to be honest it does everything I need it to do as it is. Tires will be next😉
My father worked on cars all his life and use to tell me growing up, “when it come to vehicles son, the more you modify something from its original form, the less dependable it becomes”.
      I never forgot that…
      Hope that helps you some..

I’m really into dual sport/adventure bikes. I got a great deal on a Grom and I’m finding I use it more then the other bikes. The parts are cheap and the gas mileage is fantastic. If I sold it I’d just go and buy a Monkey. I’m 74

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there!
      74😃 that’s awesome!!
There’s just something about the mini moto thing that’s very satisfying. The size, the weight, the gas mileage, the look, and the price just appeal to a lot of people.
Not to mention, they’re Hondas and mechanically speaking, they hardly ever have any issues.
The Monkey just seems to silently “scream” let’s go for a ride..
It’s only down fall is speed.
The new Monkey, with its 5th gear may help some but you’re still dealing with the same 9hp, so if the wind is against you it may still have the same issue.
I have a video coming out “today” where I rode the Monkey 312 miles round trip to Nags Head, NC from my house in Newport News, Va.
It was an awesome journey and adventure. It told me a lot about the little machine.
      I had a blast.
I like the other mini motos, the Grom, CT125, and even the new Dax (hopefully it’ll make it to the states) but for me, the Monkey just has a personality that fits and feels right for me.
I can’t imagine not having it.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, it means a lot!!
Be careful out there and by all means, ride every chance you get!!
