    In SRT mode with a canopy anchor:
    Capture a desired limb or union
    On the non working leg of the rope, tie a alpine butterfly hitch and feed the working leg through the loop of the hitch. You can also use a quickies Sav time on feeding the working in through the hitch.
    Pull the working end and it will bring the hitch up the your tie in point.
    Make sure you leave enough rope on the non working side so it can be retrieved. Rope short? Simply tie another rope or string to the retrieval end.

    Watched this vid a month ago. Had no idea what was going on. Did some more research, bought a zig zag pro, and used it for a few jobs. Now i understand what’s going on. Going to learn about srt soon. Just want to get comfy with the DRT more. Drt on a zig zag is nice. I love this product and learning how to get better.

    Mate awesome video. I'm looking to move from a drt rope prussik to a zig zag. Most climbers in the UK (full takedown & power line maintenance) use zig zags they say you don't need a swivel

    good video! Bought the zigzag plus a while ago and i love it. If i may ask, how did you attach your rope inside so it can hold your weight? I want this in my living room lol.

    I spliced my sterling scion org rope and i made a pulley that i attached a rock exotica swivel onto permenantly and a caribiner to clip on my spliced end. Cause i throwball my crotch and pull my spliced end over and i hook up my pulley with my climbing rope already through the pulley and pull it to my crotch ,rap it around the tree and off i go . I said all that to say i understand completly what you ment by having to keep the rope feed through the zig zag or it can get sketchy real quick cause ima 25 + year arborist and i can throw my body weight with ease . I can literaly pull myself to the top of a 150 ft. Tree without skipping a beat aslong as someone is directly under me keeping the rope taunt..the pulley i made is amazing. Anyway pay attention and have fun. Question for you. Have you ever had a tree boss hire you and tell you immidately if you fall your fired before you hit the ground. And it be not a joke. Then months into the job i asked him why he said that to me and his answer stunned me again, he said because it aint the fall that kills you its the sudden stop.. just as a matter of fact as tge first time.. it has made me see people or bosses differantly i really do learn all i can about only them cause in this buisness you can be taken advantage of real easly and that isnt worth it cause i really did and still do love tree work . Hell once you get alittle sap in your blood there is no turning back.. take care brother and always be good!

    2:34 - why cant u use the foot ascender on DRT then?

  • @LTawesomesauce
    @LTawesomesauce 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You're wearing your harness way too high on your hips. Treemotions are meant to sit right on your hip bones. That looks super uncomfortable.
    Also, in DRT having a friction saver or pulley saver makes it EASIER to pull yourself up. The whole point is less friction at the tie in point (which is better for you and the tree). They're super easy to retrieve as well with thought.
    I also think SRT ropewalking is the easiest and efficient form of ascent. That can get you up in the tree in seconds.

    It drives me nuts your device is so far away from your bridge in both your SRT and DRT demo. You can't even use the advantage of the pulley on the Zigzag when tending your rope in DRT at that distance. Otherwise, many good points made.

    • @seang6264
      @seang6264 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. First thing I do when I get a new harness is take the ring off and shorten the bridge. Everyone has different preferences, but that was a game changer for me 🐒

    I carnt see why someone who uses ddrt would spend big on a zigzag when a hitch climber pulley setup does the same thing but easier to tend and cheaper. All replies welcome

    • @RambosParadise
      @RambosParadise 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @David Garrett the way that the rope glides through the friction bars on the zigzag is incredible, when high enough up in the canopy the weight of the rope below will be enough for it to pull its own slack through. another key point I've noticed is that when sitting back into a friction hitch there is slack that you cant get out because of the slack in the knot when tending, with the zigzag there is little to no sitback slack, there is also no need to change friction cord monthly or even weekly depending on how much climbing you've been doing.

      Zig zags are like a friction hitch on steroids. It does everything a hitch does, just way way smoother and easier. It also blasts through sappy parts on your rope which can save you from a shitty day

    • @ghostmedal
      @ghostmedal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me I switched from the hitchclimber set up to the zigzag because of my rope being a 16 braid and always binding up on my with my hitch. I’ve found that the zigzag has let me move around way easier and I haven’t had to worry about that bind up.

      🤣 man I thought I was being a dick when I thought this throughout the video. The chicane gives you a handle for stability to help you limb walk and keep moving? 🙄 holding my Blake's hitch as I lean on the limb and sliding it as I go further out is my stability. If you need to hold onto a handle to be stable while walking far out on a limb then you're not as good as you thought you were. People need to master the OG way to climb before they get all these toys to spoil them lol

    Sorry. But no you dont have to have a rope wrench. I tried them i dont like them. I use my zigzag in both ways and i dont use a wrench. Limb walking and all. But if it makes you feel better then use it. No one i climb with uses them we all just use the zigzag or pursik with micro pully. But hey thats us.

      Nobody listen to this comment. Petzyl instruction manual requires chicane when climbing srt. I didn’t use one, and I fell out of a tree. Rope freely slid through zig zag till I hit the ground. 11.6mm rope. It worked for me for a while… until it didn’t
