- Thank you www.camtecphot... for selling me this amazing camera. (Don't forget to type in the word GENERIC in the notes section at checkout for a free gift! )
My thoughts and many sample photos with the Leica M10R after nearly 1 year of professional and personal use. In this video we discus using the M10R versus the M11 and what makes it so special and unique. Let me know what you think in the comments!
Mine is 3+ years old and I freaking love it. There is some brassing, but not a huge amount, and I haven’t babied it. Enjoy. The M10-R BP is my “forever” camera.
I agree, it really is my forever camera! Can’t wait to see how it wears in
A cute dog plus a BP M10R .... life doesn`t get much better . Congratulations.
Haha gotta count my blessings 🤜🤛
Thank you so much for this video. Do you know that before one week I was trying to sell my M10-R black paint and replace it with M11-P. But Now I changed my mind I came to know that I have a great and valuable camera . That why I surprised that they offering a good price for it. Again thank you for this video. 👍
So glad that you decided to keep it. If it ain’t broke!
@@GenericPhotographer It’s Like New. I am talking care of it.
Great review, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I love that highlight glow you have in some of your images(21:19). Is that from the M10-R sensor, a lens, or a mist filter?
Thanks for watching! That glow is from the Steel Rim reissue! It’s incredible
This was fun to watch. I own an M10-R and M10M and don’t plan to upgrade them anytime soon. I love the image quality and *especially* the ultra-quiet shutter. I’ve come to the same conclusion-I think this generation of digital Ms is where I want to stay. Actually, I think we have similar setups: I also use the 35 Steel Rim and have an SL2-S often paired with the 50 Lux. I’d really like to hear more about your SL experience and your 35mm lenses.
I hear ya! The ultra-quiet shutter is a godsend. I’ll post about the SL2-S shortly. Loving my cron and SR Reissue, stay tuned!
It’s an awesome camera! The big thing with the m11 for me is I can use lenses like the 21 Zeiss 4.5 and the older, tinier Voigtlander 12 and 15 without color cast issues finally. I also love how light it is. I could do without the 60mp to be honest but it has proven useful.
Very interesting! The bsi is superior for color casts is what you’re saying? I loved the 21 4.5 but it did exhibit some color casts on the edges and i ultimately went with a 21 3.5 color skopar. Also I’d buy a dual range cron immediately if I owned a M11. Enjoy!
Finally! Thank you very much for making this video! :)
I really was curious about your thoughts and the reason, why you chose the M10R (BP) over an M11 model.
Also thank you for your honesty about the black paint. I own a black paint MP for couple of months and I'm exactly the same like you. I really like to look of the black paint, but damn it's a fingerprint magnet + I also somehow fear to scretch the paint although I chose the black paint to get it brass over time through use :D
I thought I'm the only one having these kinda crazy thought as a black paint owner.
Looking forward for more videos from you about your beautiful M10-R BP :)
Thanks for watching! I feel like just giving it one big scratch to rip the bandaid off lol. Enjoy!
Hello, I am also using this M10-R and film MP for the black paint. I also shared a video on youtube to show the close-ups. I am very happy with it as well. I used to owned a M11, but at the end, I decided to let the M11 go and keep the M10-R black paint.
But now, with M11 Black Paint, and M10-R black paint, I would like to know more about which one to choose from. What do you think?
Beautiful photos, really. I had m8, m9, m240p and only made the upgrade when the black paint was announced. I see it as my last m, besides the analog mp in black paint that is on my wishlist. On shoots I carry the m10r bp and sl2 together around my shoulder. Great combo. Result is that the m10r bp is scratched, has dents and start to show brass. The more it looks beaten, the better it looks
Thank you so much! That’s one great lineup of gear you’ve had. My SL2S and M10R make my work so much more enjoyable and rewarding. And glad to hear you’re making use of yours! A well brassed black paint camera is a well loved one!
M10R is the best candidate as a digital M "forever body," imo. Perfect resolution to future proof, exposes off the shutter, still feels like you're handling a film body, etc. It's quintessential Leica and only that. The M11 took it one step too far, imo.
I'm still on the M240, though. I just love the color and beefy body. The M10R is the only body that could replace it supposing M240s become too hard to acquire one day.
I am interested in learning more about your pen ink cartridge trick
Camtech are the BEST.
Yess
In my opinion, the M10-R Black Paint is a class above the M11 Glossy Black and will continue to be one of the most sought after pieces for years to come.
You said it not me 🤫
bought mine nearly 3 years ago, preferred this one to the M11. Never regretted buying the M10R BP. The shooting experience is one of a kind and I love the look of the camera.
Unfortunately mine needs Rangefinder adjustment. That means somewhere around 3 month without the camera, because that's the time it takes for Leica to rectify the problem. So my back up camera the Nikon Zf will fill the void in the meantime.
Nice! Glad to hear that you’re liking it! It’s really easy to do the calculation yourself if it’s only horizontally unaligned
If it’s just the rangefinder, are you able to send it to one of the many film rangefinder specialists to have yours adjusted? I was actually wondering if there was any reasons beyond warranty keeping people from doing that.
@@CollectedWorx absolutely, ask around. Also Leica can give you a good deal if you ask them in person. Otherwise it’s a really easy fix. I’ve done mine several times.
@@GenericPhotographer +1 to fix by hand. Couple dollars for a set of hex keys. Tiny little turn of one bolt, done.
Unless it's vertically out. That's too dangerous for my blood ha.
@@GenericPhotographer Awesome, thanks for the advice!
So happy for you. :-) I’m rocking my M9 and loving it. Just want more DR and be able to recover shadows…at all. LOL!
Yeah, the DR on this is fantastic! The m9 is great, try using a circular polarizer! You won’t feel like you’re missing out at all in daylight
Yes the M10R black paint. I bought my 3 years ago, and I will not sell it. The black paint is so beautyful. I‘m still waiting for the golden patina.
Enjoy! Can’t wait to get to that brass too!
M10-R BP is a real beauty that’s is for sure, I’m very happy with my M10-R black chrome but every time I see the BP version OH Boy ! Please do a short video on your pen ink cartridge insert I would be interested in checking that. Thanks as always Andrew your YT is top.
Thank you for the words of encouragement! I’ll drop a short to go over it. Enjoy that black chrome! It’s a unique finish as well. Grass is always greener amr?
What’s the brand of your brass soft release on the M10R BP?
I like its profile and thin’ness.
me who can only buy a Leica book catalog: "hmm yes the M10-R seems to be a good purchase."
It’s a very real possibility that people will look back and consider the M10-R BP as the peak of digital Ms…but you get the BP to scratch it up, brass it, etc.- I say lean in and enjoy that process of making the camera truly yours!
Exactly, and that’s what makes the black paint special! We’re getting there gradually!
Nice photos of Marseille !
Good eye! Thanks 🙏
I have used this camera since it came out and I sold it a few months ago. I thought I'd never part with her while I was in love with this glossy beauty. But it has a few things that got in my way.
It is really slippery in my hands and always covered with grease, dirt and scratches. It is heavy compared to the m11 aluminum. The camera is too shiny and draws attention to itself. There is no backup storage. The rear screen and button block is made ugly and compared to the m11 it became especially noticeable.
It definitely is slippery, I think the thumbs up grip helped big time for that. The internal storage is definitely the biggest missing feature for me too!
Andrew, congrats on getting a bucket list camera. That said, while the heart wants what it wants, I find your reasoning around the M11 to be slightly motivated. Re the "pinnacle of the M"; I also find the bmw-owner esque _current model is always worse than the last_ thing humorous but also somewhat frustrating. I am glad that is something that doesn't actually stick or we'd all still be shooting Barnacks. Of course, I am an M11 owner, so I would say all that.
Thanks! There are a multitude of reasons why the M11 is a superior camera. Love the M reference, Porsche guys are cut from that same cloth too. There are arguments to be made for each camera, there isn’t really a wrong choice, that said I’m very happy with the compromises that I have with the M10R but I would surely welcome some of the creature comforts of the M11.
Congrats on the new beauty!
As a former M9 shooter to M10P, I like the punchy contrast and saturation, but in your experience did the M10 always have this color profile or did this happen over time with updates? Curious to know if the current M11 / SL cams with Magenta can be tweaked?
The M10 always had the same amazing colors. I’d wish that Leica can tweak the colors. I have a few settings applied upon import on my Sony cameras and I feel like one could do the same for the M11. Seems like a lot of the issues with the M11 are hardware related, startup time for instance.
i just got an M10-R as well! i really like your street photography photos, which lens do you use for those shots, btw? and also, what’s your typical and max ISO used for those photos? thanks! great content!
awesome! I use a variety of lenses, most shown here are with the steel rim reissue, 35 cron asph and 21 3.5 color skopar asph. I like to keep it at around iso 400, remembering to aim for 1/500 shutter speeds or higher. Sometimes I’ll go up to 1600 or higher though most pics shown here are between 200-800.
What lens did you use on pic on 8:15sec looks very magic. Steel rim or Cron 35 Asph? Feels like you are using some filter to get that dreamy look
Steel Rim reissue good sir. No filter can come close enough
Congratulations :)
Thanks 🙏
The M10 line is actually able to be charged with USB C.
Sort of.
You need the proper power bank and 12v to USB-C cable.
And boom! The car charger port on the battery charger can now plug into that power bank.
USB Type C PD to DC Power Cable(55x25)-12V
And a beefy ass power brick that can support the charger.
could you perhaps make a video showing and explaining the ink cartridge mod you did to protect the lugs? thank you
Done! I’ll drop it shortly ✌️
@genericPhotographer ah brilliant, I just looked on my new m11 glossy and I see west already, took that Leica strap off and will get the one in your video
I currently own M8,9,240, and 10R. My concern is the inability to get batteries for my 240 and 10R. If Leica can’t resolve their issue with letting third parties make the batteries like the M8 and 9, may have to upgrade just to M 11 just to have a working camera instead of beautiful paper weights!
By that logic you would be stuck with constantly buying a new Leica. I for one can’t justify that nor do I plan on letting this happen. I’m hoping someone comes up with a third party solution soon. Would love some Neewer branded m10 batteries for 30$ haha
Does the M10-R also have the quiet shutter? Or is that only the m10-R Black Paint and m10-P?
All M10R, P and D cameras have it
I love my m10r bp, nothing can do us part… until i remember they wont be supplying the battery forever and i agree battery life aint that bad considering its capacity.. i got 3
Nice! I’m not too worried about it. My batteries are 7 years old and hanging in fine. Enjoy!
I tried the m6 strap on my m10r and the plastic protector from the strap scratched the side of the body during just 1 day of using it, since there are no plastic nibbets on the body that protect the paint like on the M6-M9. Don't know how it's on the black paint but can't recommend for the black chrome! Apart from that, the m11 is a great example of why ''better'' is not always better...I also prefer the m10r in almost every way.
Good point! I learned that quickly too! Forgot to mention to put the leather disks to protect the sides and then a tiny strip of gaffers tape on the body. Because the disks still rub on the body.
@@GenericPhotographer black paint is ment to painta, why not let it patina in a natural way....
Isn’t an M10R 47mp?
This is my personal opinion, but I think it's better to buy the M11 than to buy the M10R. In Korea, where I live, the only difference in price is 1,200 US dollars for the same used model.
You can't go wrong either way, but the M10-R Black Paint is a true classic!
Compared to m11 black paint?
oh you mentioned at 3:00 sorry.
I'd say that the m11 is more refined and features some tech, but the m10-r bp is still a highly capable camera with its classic Leica feel.
You came from the old M10 so you know: new batteries are hard to come by, and Leica's unlikely to sell any after, oh, 2027. You might be wise to have a third one if you want to keep shooting with it for years and years.
I’m not too worried. My 7 year batteries are doing just fine and I’ve put them through countless cycles through the years.
My BP MP is looking quite brassy and very scratched up after 8 or 9 years. You have to just let go and let it happen. It’s probably knocked a few quid off its value but then I am not planning on selling it.
It’s your camera after all! Love me a brassy black paint Leica 👌
Stop it! Tell me there’s SOMETHING wrong with it! I don’t need another camera, my M10 is fine … I don’t need another camera, my M10 is fine … I don’t need another camera, my M10 is fine….
Haha M10 is just fine! I really enjoy all the photo I’ve ever taken with mine and I still think it has the best out of camera photos.
my M8 was ultimate then M9 and of course M240, then MD, then M10 and so ….. bullshit
By that logic I’d be praising the M11 black paint 🧐
I really regret selling mine 🥲
🥲
