Because he questions the power structure of the United States and the music industry itself. Now this is an old comment, but maybe other people will read, but he told Obama during one of his events that when Palestinians were getting killed by Israelis, Obama didn't say shit! He talks about censorship, how the music industry pressures artists to dumb down songs for profit, etc. Many references to Atlantic Records in his work and getting blackballed, he is honestly my favorite artist, across all Genres.

@@ZHunt-sj1lf Really, Wow!!! Well thought out and relevant topics, great lyrics but its not good. I think its better to say a lot of the lyrics went over the heads on some people. I don't get how people can listen to any of his last 3 albums and says they ain't genuine album of the year contenders. Tetsuo and Youth was the same thing, if not better sir. His lyrics and word play are far better than the over hyped garbage rappers, who spread nothing but degrading and self loathing crap; Kendrick Lamar is one of them (Kendrick is very talented by the way). However, Lupe Fiasco is very very intellectual and I think most people are missing that part. They aren't 'over standing' the music and that's the problem. I listen to Lupe when i want to feel uplifted, and his music never fails.
Don't even mention the self life of his last two albums, how long after can you listen to Kendrick Lamar's music and still find meaning. Most rappers are singing 'right now' music and that's where some youth and young adults are getting lost.
I gain nothing listening to Kendrick's last album 3 years from now. Becuz the lyrics are self loathing and all about money and other crap we all don't need.

I think people don’t enjoy Lupe because they try too hard to understand him on their 1st listen which is mentally frustrating, Lupe is my favorite artist/rapper of all time and I appreciate that even tho his sound/production isn’t always my go to he gives me an extremely wide variety while most artists have a primary consistent sound
I say this meaning when I listen to Lupe I first just like to appreciate the sound and mood the music takes me to because each song is somewhere different and a different contextual experience I can appreciate, then as I just enjoy the music I casually allow myself to understand the music and over time things start to click and the experience becomes 10 fold as on any random listen of a song I can enjoy a new epiphany of the story/stories he’s creating... this will eventual lead me to Rap Genius lol for the songs I really connect with
    Basically
Enjoy the feel of each different song with no pressure on yourself while listening
If you connect with any on a feel level play whenever in the mood to
Casually allow yourself to have the music pain the pictures in your mind until it comes clear at your own pace
Soon after the understanding of the doprness this mans trying to spread will engage your curiosity to give other songs of his where the sound wasn’t your exact style and you’ll slowly expand your taste buds and realize each of his songs have depth

The way he makes nuanced sounds and beats the way OGs back in the day did it and his beats are never louder than or overtake the impact of his words. We sound like robots the more we blame “the industry” for not supporting an artist. We have our own minds, eyes, ears, to seek out the artist we enjoy and continue to support them. @@ybone8709 DMX is in his top 10 and Im sure many people can agree that Tupac and DMX both fit the same rap mold: not very lyrical, miracle using mostly simple rhyming words but they're voices are distinct, recognizable, has character, tone, timbre, emotional grit etc. Both are excellent story tellers and can write songs for the clubs (Party Up & California Love) and they can both flow over a variety of different beats. Only difference between them is that X grew up on the cold streets of NY doing whatever a stray dog had to do to survive while Tupac was nurtured in a more educated, privileged, militant environment. While DMX was lucky to have made it through his experiences, Tupac gave you the same stories as X but he also discussed way more other socio-political subjects. Tupac has more content and overall his contributions toward hiphop as a movement means way more than DMX's (not to disrespect DMX in no way because he is also legend for making 5 albums that went #1 on billboard including 2 within one year)
