I'm 55 & have never worn glasses my whole life😍👁👁! But my lovely wife got her first pair last week. She's 51 & absolutely beautiful with her glasses! I had fun helping her pick the frames!.. I'm so thankful for my perfect eyesight!☺😌
Doc, Im only 18 and I've never had a history of eye problems. But these past few months, my eyes have started to water when focusing on certain things like reading books, reading from phone/computer. Should I contact an eye doctor and ask If I need prescription?
Im 47 usually use a +1.25 but it broke, I went to get one bk and there was +1.25 but made my eyes feel funny so i tried other strength and notice that a +2.25 works, why is that?
No, I do not. I read a book holding at eight to twelve inches without glasses. For longer distances (eighteen inches looking at this laptop), I need my progressives. I just got cataract surgery, and I had my surgeon leave me nearsighted, so the only charge from before surgery is that I can read the road signs. No reason to make those of us who have always been nearsighted to become farsighted.
❤ I now reach 46, in 2023, and I hating can't read normal 😢. This video is SOOOOO VERY INFORMATIVE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, I SHARE IT EVERYONE. I am from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹. ❤
Dr. Rupa you look young. I thought you were a young college student explaining about eye glasses. I've started wearing reading glasses about 3 months ago. I'm naturally destructive. The amount of times I've dropped, stepped, or rolled over in my sleep 😴 and accidentally breaking my reading glasses is ridiculous. I'm at a 1.5. Does it matter the cost of reading glasses as in quality if every 2 weeks I break them by accident? Since they are a new added requirement in my everyday life I've even lost or misplaced them especially at the gym. I've been spending $10-$15 at a Walmart or grocery store on each pair but found reading glasses at a dollar tree that I've been using just fine the past 2 days. Will buying cheap reading glasses hurt my eyes in the future?
Good video. I was diagnosed with presbyopia. I finally wore my readers (+1.75) for my computer and (+2.25) recommended for books. I must say I can read better and quicker on my computer. 4 years ago before/after turning 50 I noticed reading words close up were very challenging.
I had mild myopia from age ten onward. I wore mild prescription glasses for years. Then when I was 55, I started to hold newspapers and books at arm's length, and couldn't write anything. I bought a pair of reading glasses with +125 power. I was able to read and write for about a year when I had to get progressively stronger reading glasses. I figured that I had better see my eye doctor. I told him that I was having trouble reading and doing close work, and had to buy reading glasses to remedy the problem. The eye doctor examined my eyes, then said that I had presbyopia. I was astonished. I laughed and replied that nearsighted people do not get presbyopia. The eye doctor countered that just about everyone gets presbyopia, even nearsighted people. Well, I couldn't wear single vision glasses anymore. I had to get bifocals.
Please, I live in Egypt, and I want to ask you about my medical condition. I am 49 years old. My eyes were good and my vision is almost excellent, but I started to feel long-sighted. I cannot see close objects. I went to a doctor who prescribed me reading glasses. At first, I found the glasses wonderful. Everything is fine up close and he told me that I do not need glasses for walking because my eyesight is largely normal. The problem is that after using the glasses for about a month, I feel that my vision is deteriorating very significantly (all the deterioration occurs within one month). Now I can almost not see at a distance of one and a half meters except With these glasses, I cannot read at all without them, and I feel that my distance vision is deteriorating quickly as well, because almost my job is to sit at the computer for a very long period of time a day. I feel that I am no longer normal without them, and I wear them in order to see everything that is close, but when I take them off, I find distraction.. Do you have any? Tips and thanks
Whoa!! Reading Glasses?! Great information. Thanks for sharing about when you can buy reading glasses from the drugstore, when you can’t, what causes this to happen, and more!
You should always ask your doctor what is best for you. Here is a video I have done on astigmatism if you want to learn more! - th-cam.com/video/pJGiSqM1yEQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jGbfvoRSfqT2251Z@@wingwong525
It got to the point where I couldn't read label ingredients and read my nostalgic comic books. I purchased my first readers yesterday. At 44 I feel really old now. I never needed glasses and purchased a 1.25 In my late 30s my hair thinned so I buzzed it off and was somewhat relieved. But needing readers really bothered me.
Question: I did not understand this phenomenon. My vision was pretty bad 20/400, and I wore progressive lenses. However, I discovered I could better see things close-up, like reading a book, threading a needle, or put on make up by bringing the activity closer, as opposed to using the reading function of my progressive lenses or wearing readers. Friends in my age group, 50- 60, could not correct their presbyopia without readers. Why could I function well bringing items nearer to me? Then, when I had cataract surgery and elected the implanted multi-focal lenses, I could no longer do close-up work bringing the item nearer to me. And, unfortunately, I soon discovered progressive lenses were needed, because the multi-focal implanted lenses did not fully correct my vision needs near or far. Disappointing for sure.
I'm sorry Marietta that you didn't have the expected result from surgery. Yes, many of my nearsighted patients often will just take off their glasses instead of wearing their readers. The nearsightedness allowed you previously to see up close and with a wider range than the reading part of your progressives.
I just spent under $400 with insurance for reading glasses. Wish I had seen this video before, i just needed regular readers because I have a 20 20 vision and never needed glasses.
Dr. Wong, I just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed…you are excellent with explaining all topics and are so down to earth! I started wearing readers consistently around age 45. Prior to that I’ve never worn glasses and have amblyopia (discovered around age five and patching did not help it). My question is: of the options you discussed, which might be most helpful for me taking the amblyopia into consideration? I have been wearing drug store readers for 8 years and am tired of the on/off on/off all day long! Thanks for the excellent educational (and fun) videos!
I'm almost 47 now I used to be able to read the really small print on the battery packages. people were always amazed that I could read that. now I can't anymore.... heck I can barely read the text on my laptop writing this comment. In an emergency I have noticed that if I scrunch my eyebrows like I'm mad or something and then I try to look right underneath my eyebrows I find a spot where it's actually a bit focused but I don't do that all the time because it's not something that I can do all the time unless I want really bad headaches and to mess my vision up even more probably
Dr. Wong, is there a natural way to combat the need for reading glasses? Any eye exercises or supplements you know of? Also thanks again for your Visual Snow video, that really helped me.
@@DrRupaWong good, no issues at all.. help with up close work a ton especially now, when I 1st got them didnt make a lot of differences, but coudn't go without them for close work anymore. Also have prism in my glasses so have to wear glasses all the time, can't do contacts.
I am 30 I am using 2 glasses one for distance and one for reading. Later is -1.00Sph lower than the former. I have Accommodative dysfunction in both of my eyes.
I'm also 46 and near-sighted. I have worn contacts since I was 16 and have always been able to see distance and up close just fine, but over the past few years, close-up vision with contacts IN has become nearly impossible. With contacts OUT, I can read up close just fine (but then I can't see 5 feet ahead of me lol). Is that still presbyopia? My distance vision seems to be unchanged. Trying to figure out a solution - leaning toward just getting readers for close reading when my contacts are in. Working at a computer is a massive challenge - I'm never the right distance away from anything so I usually just wear my prescription glasses and they're constantly on and off as I try to focus. Really challenging times!
Really helpful video. I am 50 with, until recently, perfect vision. Have just started to find I have an issue reading. Not all the time. Depends on aircon, time of day etc. Will wearing reading glasses speed up the process presbyopia?
