    It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.

      Hi, You guys have some great ideas for utilizing your limited space. I agree with AnnaMarie that buying an outdoor storage shed would be less costly than adding to your container. If you keep the container doors as they are now, you have a very secure way of locking up and protecting your home without any added expenditure.
      In your video you did not say anything about insulation of the walls, floor and ceiling. Also, what parts of the building work do you plan on doing yourselves. This the best way to save construction costs.
      Best wishes to you guys and success on your project.

    • @OddLifeCrafting

      +newtong579 we agree with the shed idea and we are actually going to talk about another idea in the future!! 😬😎 the plan is to do everything by ourselves even the furniture, but let’s see what happens on the way!! Love what your doing and how you are communicating it so purposefully - two thoughts on your design, 1) Do u need a work top that deep for ur office/ You may want consider keeping it the same depth as your wardrobe. 2) Good idea to extend your storage. I see u already plan to use another solution😀 I was going to suggest - It may be much easier to remove the doors, build out side walls, floor & roof - then re-install doors to close the end of the storage area. Also, u may want to use concrete pavers on ground for the floor giving you a taller space instead of building a full raised floor system. That would be cheaper too. I’m scribed, and excited to see how this project progresses & by the way... Love Brazil!! I have been twice in past two years!

    Hi guys, this is great! I've just started my own 40' HC conversion and can truly relate to the issues you're facing. Two suggestions on your layout 1) build a fold down workbench that has a shadow board for your tools - everything will be neat and tidy and when you want to use it the fold down part becomes the workbench. You could throw in a false floor that attaches to the doors and then lift it out to close up the workshop. 2) your small seating area near the office could be split height if hinged along the front. You could make this wide enough to be a 15cm high single bed when it's folded out.
    Is your workshop also going to house your services, e.g. your hot water, electrical circuit breakers etc? Good luck with the rest of the build - we'll all be watching with interest. BTW I'm happy to share photos etc of my build with you if you like (but I only started last week and it's 3 hours drive from where I live (which is in New Zealand)).

      +Shane Bayley thanks a lot for the ideas. We really like the one for the single bad.
      About the work shop we are almost convinced to wait until the end and then build separate a tiny work shop on wheels!!
      Where in New Zealand do you live and where are you building? We spent a month traveling on a camper van last year. I don’t know if you also watched our New Zealand videos. Ee loved you country!!

    I am now subscribed! Great planning and great choices on your designs, too! Having lived in a home with 42" tall kitchen wall cabinets, I would NEVER go with the short wall cabinets, ever again!! Depending on how much height you will have left, after you install the kitchen windows, think about going all the way up to the roof line, in your small kitchen!! Accessing the taller wall cabinets is easy with a folding 2 or 3-step ladder/step stool! That will be what we will be doing, once we acquire our 40' HC Shipping Container(s?)!! Thanks for posting your progress!!

    Aqui estou eu novamente. Eu nao sei se vcs ja decidiram varias coisas, pois estou assistindo com alguns meses atrasado. Mas vou aconselhar ir com os armarios ate o teto para guardarem coisas leves. Eu morei com minha esposa em Odessa, Ucrania por 4 anos num minusculo ape de 22 m2 e usaos estas partes dos armarios para guardar malas de viagem vazias por exemlo, ou caixas dos produtos q compramos (uma dentro de outras). Sao coisas leves q nao sao muito usadas, masq vale muito a pena ter. Inclusive, no armario do quarto, usamos a parte "mais que superior" para guardar o teclado de minha esposa, e qdo ela queria praticar, ela apenas usava um banquinho e pegava a caixa com o teclado. Grande abraco, partiu assistir o proximo ;)

    Season 1 is complete. What nice memories of your youthful adventures traveling the world. So, my questions are: with your degree in civil engineering do you have a job? Your Dad must have been somewhat supportive of your plans, and willing to provide a space on his land. but must think you are nuts to build such a tiny house. Did you need a building permit? You may inform us later about the electrical and plumbing connections, but I am curious as to none of these utility connections were installed underground. Maybe I just need to be patient, and it will all be described later.

    Olá boa noite Eduardo e Roberta!! Primeiramente parabéns pelo ótimo trabalho que vcs fazem no canal, comecei a assistir seus vídeos enquanto buscava informações sobre "faça vc mesmo sua casa conteiner" e virei fã de vcs!! Tbm sou de Santa Catarina, mais precisamente Porto Belo e fiquei preocupado nesse vídeo ao saber que vcs tiveram problemas com a 1° empresa de containers que contrataram.... pois estou estou justamente tentando encontrar uma empresa confiável para realização de meu projeto (será a casa nova de minha mãe 😬)... Por isso, por favor, se puderem me dizer qual a empresa que não entregou o container pra vcs, isso me ajudaria muito a evitar possíveis problemas!!.. ..no mais é isso... Outra coisa que adorei no canal é vcs usarem o inglês, pois eu estou tentando aprender e isso ajuda muito...mesmo pra um iniciante como eu... I think you should buy a separate tool shed for your storage. Sheds are relatively cheap and you would have to invest money to build out the attached storage anyway. Buying a separate structure just seems like a simpler solution. Also, why don't you just build the entrance into the existing open wall? That also seems like a simpler choice then closing one opening and then cutting out a new opening. I think part of good design is adapting to the materials and environment you begin with and finding simple solutions. I think it could end up costing you if you are too rigid with your planning.

    • @OddLifeCrafting
      @OddLifeCrafting  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chramec Thanks a lot for the idea. We actually came up with an third option. Using that simple storage (I surf, kite surf have skate also so I do need storage space) and building from scratch a tiny work shop on wheels. Just like a very small tiny house on wheels but as a work shop. If that happen this would be our second project. Right after we finish the house. 😀

      They also make 20' side opening containers th-cam.com/video/qGU_t-QD_E8/w-d-xo.html
      Not sure if you can get them in Brazil or not. Since it's a workshop\shed or storage building the side doors make it grate for access to any sized items and help to extend the workshop outside on nice days. And again with the side doors you wouldn't have to make any modifications to the container and could easily be resold as a container.

    Love your channel / started with the boat & now came back to the Tiny House .
    Just for fun let's say that the shipping container in it's travels prior to your purchase ended up in Japan . . . . at the World War II biological warfare facility where the Japanese were developing biological weapons to be used against the USA . Some left over biological hazardous waste (in sealed 55 gallon drums) was loaded in those containers for transport to a remote disposal site . . . . . . . . . .
    And again ( for fun ) let's say that from that location it passed by the Fukishima nuclear reactor disaster location where they loaded some 55 gallon drums of highly radioactive waste into it for transport to (again) a remote disposal site (location unknown for obvious reasons) . . . . .
    "The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed
    If not for the courage of the fearless crew the Minnow would be lost . . . .
    The Minnow would be lost . . . . " Soooo , while in transport the container was subjected to some severe turbulance , and wouldn't you know it , the 55 gallon drums broke free from their restraints crashing about inside the container and (of course) ruptured spilling their contents not only into the container , but seeping into the nooks , cracks , and underfloor voids of the container . . . . . . . . . . the unsuspecting dock workers unloading that container had no idea of the hazard (since the 55 gallon drums were not labeled with their contents - for obvious reasons) , and many of those workers that have since had children . . . . well , the children have a variety of unique differences such as : two heads , three arms , four legs , seven fingers , etc . . . . . . .
    ' Just for fun ! ' ( My imagination has a tendency to go off on tangents on occasion . . . )
    Anyway , I am enjoying your adventures and have subscribed to your channel .

    muito legal esse projeto de vocês!! deixa eu perguntar... a compra dos container como ocorreu? tenho duvida a respeito da procedência do container, quais tipos de materiais transportavam como saber se não era de materiais perigosos para a saúde? agradeço muito se puderem me responder.

    • @OddLifeCrafting
      @OddLifeCrafting  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fala Danilo. Então fiz essa pergunta para a empresa que me vendeu o Container. Pra ser sincero a resposta deles foi. Ja vendemos muiiitos containers para casas e até hoje ninguém reclamou que teve problema. Na verdade não respondeu nada. Hehehehe mas completaram dizendo que é possível contratar algum especialista para dar um laudo de que não tem nada contaminado no Container, mas que na opinião deles não valeria o preço e acreditavam não precisar. Eu de certa forma concordo com eles, além de que o meu container vai ser 100% revestido por dentro, ou seja não vou ter contato algum com o container atual. Inclusive teremos um assoalho novo por cima do antigo (se fosse ter alguma contaminação acredito que seria na madeira do assoalho, afinal as predes são de aço e serão pintadas além de que será instalado um forro de compensado naval). Bom, não sei se respondei a tua pergunta ou se te confundi mais ainda, mas resumindo existe como fazer um laudo, só não sei quem faz e supostamente é caro. 👌🏼

      We used a small crane to take it off the truck and once it was on the ground we used wood logs to roll on the top and some tine we just flip them a several times until we got ir to the right place 💪🏼😂.

    Que tal utilizar um monitor maior como televisão? Economizaria espaço e dinheiro!

    • @OddLifeCrafting
      @OddLifeCrafting  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      André Rothermel realmente é uma ótima ideia. Mas como já temos a tv e o monitor e vamos pela regra do reduzir utilizando coisas que já temos. Hehe. Vamos acabar usando os 2 (uma tv e um monitor cada um) porque já temos os equipamentos. Mas concordamos que seria uma boa idea de economia de espaço. Obrigado pela dica. 😉

    This is the first video I am watching so not sure how far along the project is.
    What I was thinking is you could add a folding Ceiling, back wall and Floor in the Door area to expand the shop and allow it to be portable. Or be able to close the Container Doors for bad weather or what ever. Construct it in such a way that the Floor Folds up into the area first, then the Ceiling folds down. The back wall can swing out of the way as it is hinged to the Container Doors to allow the ceiling to drop into the area. The back wall can be two pieces and fold into the doors; sort of like double doors but they act as support for the ceiling. You should be able to make this happen with some thought or perhaps someone else could use this idea. I can see it in my mind but maybe not say so as easily.
    Another way is to make the area modular; much like above but without everything being hinged together. You can use the storage area to hold all the pieces too. I hope this helps....

      @OddLifeCrafting  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot for all the suggestions!! The thing is, we have waaaay too many tools and machines to store and be able to have moving walls, floor and ceiling. Hehehe at least seems like 😬😬 but definitely I will try to think about a solution like this just as one of the options. Thanks a lot!!

    I just subscribed and love it so far. You guys are awesome together and the teamwork is amazing. My wife and I are thinking about building a container house, but not sure about being cost effective. We want a little bigger like maybe 3 40ft containers since we have 1 child at home and 3 big dogs. But I love your house and thank you for sharing with us.
