I bought one second hand in 1975...30-06, had it full length restocked to fit me, I had a side mount put on it, scope sits on top of receiver but doesn't interfere with the iron sights. Action/bolt is polished and super smooth. Hope one day one of my grandsons will use it.
Just bought one today and it's a beauty. 30-06, original sling, original optics mount but with a weaver scope? Blueing is in great shape as well as the wood. Always wanted one having been a guest at a Bavarian hunting club in the 1970s. Finally the quest is over.
Beautiful example, love the quick detachable Kahles, work of art. I have a 1903 (stamped 1920) 6.5 with double set triggers, french walnut stock, metal gripcap and buttplate with trapdoor storage. unfortunately back then there were few scope options so it has a Noske side mounted Zeiss Zielklein. Not as beautiful as yours but I love it. I couldn't appreciate them till I handled one. Thanks for sharing.

Do you have video showing how to disassemble the Mannlicher 1950? I have a tough time feeling like the barrel is glued to the stock due to the cosmoline and can't get the trigger assembly out either. I need to fix the side safety button as it's stuck in the fire position (again feels glued and will not move) causing the gun to never hold the firing pin back before pulling the trigger. It's impossible to find a video with this info...
Hey snowball, my grand father granted me his Steyr MS 1952 270 cal. rifle and it came with an after factory scope. Its an old german made scope called Nickel Zielfernrohre Marburg/L Supra 4x81 E/S DP. along with the serial number. It is a detachable scope much like the factory scope made for this gun. I did some research and found that zielfernrohre is german for target tubes so obviously just means scope, but i was wondering if you knew anything more about the scope, i could find very little on the internet myself. The 6.5x54MS was and is the most popular of the original Mannlicher Schoenauer chamberings. Loaded ammo is currently available from Hornady and PRVI PARTIZAN. Reloading components are also readily accessible. As far as what to look for depends partly on your intended use. If collecting, then original condition is very important. Non factory modifications decrease value. If you want the rifle to shoot and enjoy using then some modifications, if properly done, are acceptable and possibly a benefit. Always check the proper operation of the set trigger if your rifle is so equipped. My 1908 MS was 'improved' by someone over polishing the lateral surfaces of my trigger and set trigger to try and smooth it out. The result was too much play side to side and an inconsistent sear release. Fixable with shims but a real pain nevertheless. With these older rifles it is also a good idea to have a close look at the stock since there is sometimes a hairline crack behind the receiver tang that could get worse over time. The Mannlicher is a great rifle made to a very high standard and well worth the investment. Good luck in your search and enjoy any MS you buy.
One more thing. I've finally came across my issue of 'Rifle' magazine that has a good article on the 6.6x54 Mannlicher carbine. Rifle September 2006, No. 227. A good article and worthwhile looking for one on eBay.

I've been keeping my eye on finding a decent shooting example of the military version for awhile. Both the Oberndorf Mauser Sporter and the Mannlicher Schoenauer trace their roots to military use.
I have this rifle in the 30-06 cal....I wish I could get a quality scope and the original scope mount such as this one on your video....mine has the 2 triggers.
New England Custom Gun has a couple of option for scope mounts from EAW. They are very pricey though. Paul Jaeger G&H and have made Mannlicher scope mounts in the past and are intermittently available on eBay. I've had a few over the years and recently found a brand new one for less than $100. Bought that one in less than a minute! I have a 1952 MS in .270 with a nicely figured stock it is destined for.
I suppose the barrel breech need drilling and tapping for the mount installation? Are the mounts just made for the mannlicher? I would like to find the original mounts and the scope....what is EAW? Thanks for a very good video!
The 1952 and later models had a removable filler plate on the left side of the action which when removed provided a flat surface to more easily attach side scope mounts available at the time.

Like the 7mm Mauser (7x57) the above rifle would be an ideal dual purpose "deer/elk" hunting rifle. One well placed shot should be able to put fresh venison (deer) and elk meat into the family freezer. Also, could even be utilized for providing caribou and moose meat. I have a fondness for the 8mm chambering's. I'd like to pick up the new Sauer 100 rifle in 8x57 sometime soon. I haven't shot any rifles in the 8x68 chambering. I would imagine brass and reloading dies would be less common here where I live,

Yes, the ramp of the magazine that guides the neck of the cartridge on the outside of the circle had to be modified. That was only necessary to be able to load more than one round into the magazine. You don't need to modify the parts of the gun that are involved in the repeating cycle.

They are great rifles. I'd like to add a 6.5x54 to my collection. It is the only early chambering that can still be obtained in factory loadings.
