    Finally an analysis that talks about the objectivity that Tamhane very consciously maintains. It's a film appreciated but not understood by most people.

    I think you misunderstand the scene at 4:52 . The point is that the worker class has dignity and would rather have stable work than a handout, a slight against a very common talking point by conservatives. Idk from where you are making the leap that the lawyer represents someone not wanting to see real economic change. He for sure is distant and not affected by all this but he is a social worker dedicating time and money to represent disenfranchised folks i dont see any reason why he would not be for economic change.
