It took 3 times to get it sized right. Thank goodness for the Canva resize prompt. Fingers crossed on getting approved. It was so fun creating it. Thank you soooo much for your teachings!! Thank you for your time and effort. This is very helpful. One thing i have to add or suggest, you don´t need to open the image in the browser to get a higher resolution. The resolution stays the same. You can upscale one grid and right click and save directly from Discord. If you check resolution it´s the same as if you open it in a browser. This saves a little time. thanks again.
Thank you so much for sharing this information! The way you explain things is amazing and so easy to understand. This is the first video I watched of you but I will make sure to watch every single one on your channel!!🔥
I had no idea KDP was so simple. I have created several childrens books with chatGPT which i am blown away by and will now get onto creating some illustration for it with MidJourney so I can start to publish it. My son already loves me reading the short stories to him so I cant wait to see if people start buying it.
News flash: They wont. Normall coloring books are already pennies and people are not gonna buy AI books with wonky lines when books from like kerby rosanes are 10/15 books only.
Thank you so much Mr.Paul. One of the best tutorial I had ever seen about Amazon KDP. It was very informative and you didn't leave even a single step. I had seen so many videos but no one had ever shared these many steps and it was the best videos in TH-cam. I appreciate your time and help. May god bless you. Once again thank you so much.❤✨
Hello, I'm an artist from India and I was looking for some videos on KDP and your video came to my suggestion. It was my first time watching your video, and I'm happy I found your video, I truly appreciate your efforts, you took your time and explained everything most simply as possible thank you so much , I genuinely appreciate your hard work. Keep growing❤️❤️
I already did this. Just about every part of my Easter coloring book and Word search book was created by AI, with assistance from GIMP. from the inner contents to the front and back covers. But I didn't only use MJ. I also used completely free AI generators from Blue Willow and LeonardoAI
@@DiLsHika588 Try Leonardoai instead. Thye still have a free account, and use Leonardo Signature with Prompt Magic. That would definitely get you where you want to be. I got a bit lucky with Blue Willow also, but it was a crap shoot.
@@dudeman0811 There is a paid version of Leonardoai where you can create private images. Not sure about Playgroundai, but in my opinion Leonadooai is so much better,.
I literally just uploaded a coloring book about 30 min ago doing this exact same thing with MJ and canva. It took me about 3 months (I have a full time job and a toddler lol) I appreciate your ar prompt hint, that's a good thing to know so all the result pages aren't square. Cheers!
congrats, I wanted to ask is it safe to use Ai, as I saw some articles where it was written that ai images can be detected, so later may be amazon implement this and you lose your seller account(I hope not)

Thanks for this, I was on red bubble 1500+ designs, 1000's of likes and follows, sales... then I stopped creating on Canva and got in on Ai... prolly last 100 or so was Ai designs, Then bam!! My acct was just suspended and according to small print , they don't have to tell me why and possibly my acct will never get human eyes on it, or help!!!! so NOW I am listening to you and spreading my work around. I am SO bummed, it was countless hours of work. Gone! Ai is too blame because all else was created by just me, myself and I. I got everything ready today and will publish tomorrow. A bit concerned tho' on Ai.... any words of comfort. Thanks again and best wishes... Oh can you do --no shading instead of , noshading,
You could try -no shading if that is a command. Amazon has not, as far as I’m aware, said there are any issues with ai images. It will also depend on what images you publish. It is still possible to breach trademark with certain images.
Thank you for this amazing information, you inspired me to create my first coloring book tonight! I created a super cute easter coloring book for all ages using the AI, wow the results are amazing!! It's under final review with amazon, hoping it goes live quickly!
Thanks SO MUCH for this very informative video! I like how you explain this step by step. Even though I have never done anything like this before I am sure that I could do this. Your explanations are so simple and easy to understand. If it wasn't 1:23 a.m. I would probably start on this right now.
Thank you so much, I used your info to understand the kdp process. I love to play with ai generation commands, and you really can make some magical things - especially if you combine that with editing. I'm hoping my book ends up looking nice, it's in review now. I ended up doing Mystical Cat Portraits .... I know... I'm a dork lol. I have so many ideas. The commercial rights thing is so useful. I know I'm unlikely to make money any time soon, but it just feels great to make something and share it with others.
@@paulmarles Thank you very much, no sales yet but maybe one day. I did also put up Kawaii Lovecraft Monsters that I like more than my cats coloring book, but it's still in the first 72 hours of the kdp review process. Thank you so much for the videos, it's been fun learning so much. 🥳
That's an awesome video. I never thought about publishing a book but now I really am interested making a coloring book for our 6 year old and publish it. I hope I find the time.
Hey Paul, your video are good and I do follow you from time to time, but here's a question: there are so many videos like yours showing easy ways to create coloring (and many more) books using AI in simple/fast ways; besides that creating a book is generally the easy part and selling it AND making a profit is a total different story - what's the point to teach others to make books using AI (affiliate revenue and subscribers building aside) when there is a concrete risk that Amazon KDP will be flooded with tons of new books created with AI while the demand will stay the same? How are we going to survive as authors in an over-saturated Amazon KDP market? How do you see this play out in the next couple of years?
That's a great question. The market was flooded even before MidJourney came on the scene, never mind now, lol. There are lots of TH-camrs teaching this method and they're just setting their viewers up for major disappointment.
The issue of saturation is brought up in every online business - TH-cam, blogging, publishing on Amazon. It's simply not the case. Good quality and orginality is not saturated. Come up with some great ideas. Everytime I go to the first page on Amazon for coloring books there are new books appearing and some I think wow, I wish I'd thought of that. I remember that blogging was saturated and dead in 2010 and TH-cam in 2016.
@@paulmarles Couldn’t agree more. I’ve passed many an opportunity assuming I was the last kid on the block, when time showed I was the early bird. 🤦🏼♂️
@@jem9978 Remember, most of these TH-camrs don't even publish via Amazon KDP. They make their money by showing how to publish, referral links, affiliate marketing, selling courses and so on. The Problem with Canva + Midjourney is that those tools are not enough to publish at a decent quality because you probably need to upscale the images and improve their quality by vectorizing them.
Paul thank you so much for your tutorial 🙏🏻 it's short, clear and easy to understand. I am doing a coloring with midjourney right now. Your tutorial helped me a lot ✌🏻
Thank you for the video! I actually had some success with AI-generated coloring books for adults. One book in particular is very successful in the UK. I've branched it recently into 2 more books to be able to run sponsored brands campaigns. One advice I'd give is to try different markets. This coloring book is doing extremely good in the UK, but in the US the success is moderate. For Germany I've made a German version and it is doing pretty good as well.
@@paulmarles that's true. however I do find areas where AI is not performing all that well. For example it is not very good at generating very simple illustrations for children. It seems that the level of abstraction needed for that is not yet in the model. Also any complex machinery is still out of reach: try generating something as simple as a bulldozer or a truck crane. So I figure I'd just stick to things that AI is good at with AI and order other things to freelancers as usual.
May I ask -- are you using any AI image upscalers for your coloring books? Or are you just using the image direct from Midjourney to Canva? If you're just using Midjourney image with no upscaling (other than the native upscaling inside Midjourney) is the resolution good enough for print? You've had no complaints about resolution/definition? I can't seem to find an answer on ths -- just wanted to make sure my images are crisp and clear. Many thanks!
Sir i am thankful to you..i was trying hard to earn money online and wasted many weeks in watching thousands of fake videos on youtube but i finally found u and published my 1st colouring book on amazon kdf exactly following your procedure thanks alot🎉❤
Hi Paul, thanks for the step by step guide, much appreciated. I do have a question though, is there a completely free to use AI art tool that I can use instead of Midjourney that allows me to keep the licence... normally I'd happily pay for such a powerful tool but due to a series of life altering events I find myself struggling (financially and physically), so I'm looking for ways to start from scratch and maybe get some pocket money, and at least this idea will cost me nothing to try right! Thanks for your time.
Thank you for making this super straightforward tutorial Paul! Just hit publish on my first coloring book "Zen Garden Coloring Book for Adults". It's a fun process generating the content with ai.
Hi Paul, i spent many hours learning kdp and there were still many questions, but this one video of yours helped answer almost all of them, thanks a lot!🙏 I just don't understand how kdp approved your submission in this video if they have a minimum resolution of 300dpi, and Canva only saves in 144dpi, with the PDF for print option, or perhaps because you have a pro account and there is a higher dpi? Also, you didn't mention the CMYK requirement, because the free version of canva allows you to save PDF, only in RGB 🌟 Anyway, thanks alot again for this tutorial!
I know, I wrote about it above. I was talking about the fact that the author did not mention the need for cmyk and the fact that canva does not save in this format without a pro version.
Thanks for the video. I followed your instructions and received this message from KDP: Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page. Once you have added the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach all the way to the edge of the page 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. This prevents manufacturing issues when the file is trimmed to size
You're a genius! This video was way more helpful than another similar video I watched because I could never manage to get the margins quite to be able to publish to KDP. I think it's finally time to come up with some coloring books to rake in some sweet passive income.
Thank you for this tutorial. However, I'd like to point out something. When you resize the image as you did in canva, you compromise its quality. Depending on the image, you may end up with a pixelated illustration after printing it through KDP.
Quite helpful thanks. I’ve been using both Canva and Midjourney for a while for marketing and other needs. Looking at creating a series of books to help my niche education brand.
@@paulmarles Thanks! Getting closer to finishing my project. Question: why the black color for a background? I think it works, but just curious if in the paperback print process it looks better with your branded colors?
Hi Paul, I just came across your videos and, in the past few days, have watched most of them. Thank you with all my heart for prividing so much vaiue for us, your audience. Believe me, some people appreciate it far more then words can express. Hope we see you in future. One topic that I'd like covered is - how do you go about colour-scheme when creating book covers?
Did you get prompted by Canva to account for the bleed size? From 8.5 to 8.625? How would I know this if there isn't a prompt? Thanks for any help Paul
I've had KDP reject my coloring books with a full bleed, and they told me to change the size of the page . I learned this by making mistakes. Now I know.
No, Canva didn't prompt me. You decide whether your page has bleed or not and if it does then you add the extra measurements. This video may help explain better: th-cam.com/video/bl7fsrHKaGs/w-d-xo.html
Hi Paul, do you need to upgrade the MidJourney generated images since they are only about half the size we need them to be for an 8.5 x 11 coloring book?
It depends on the quality that you can live with. I personally upscale mine 2x to 4x to get crisper lines. It's an extra step and makes your process a bit longer. However, once you get a system it's not so bad.
Currently, AI generated artwork is clearly a violation of copyright and it’s not legal to use it for commercial purposes. Amazon could be liable for infringement if they knowingly allow your ai content to be published
Hey love the video. One thing that might save you and others time in your layout is to start with a prompt the includes an aspect ratio closer to the end result. You use "--ar 9 : 11" which produces an image size of something like 8.5x10.419, but your goal is 8.5 x 11. So in layout you have to fiddle around with resizing the image. Also one side effect is you will lose details on the edge that might be important to your image. Using an aspect ratio calculator and entering the pixel dimension for 8.5x11(2550x3300) you get and aspect ratio of 17 : 22. If you use "--ar 17 : 22" in the prompt your image size will be 8.5x11.05, much closer to the target.
Right now you can zoom out any image created so if anything looks fine you can zoom out by 1.1 or 1.2 to add a little bit of “removable” area maintaining the created image untouched. As for the aspect ratio I’m still using full pixel dimensions and MJ just translates it pretty good to proper ar. It is always something to crop so I don’t bother with couple of pixels missing here and there. Just from my experience.
@@HeyMcFli Midjourney's terms of use also say this regarding copyright: Rights You give to Midjourney By using the Services, You grant to Midjourney, its successors, and assigns a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, sublicensable no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute text, and image prompts You input into the Services, or Assets produced by the service at Your direction. I appreciate it!
You're welcome. Congratulations on creating your book!
How is it going buddy?
This vid is an absolute game changer. Thanks so much, Paul, for being so open to sharing your expertise, tools and processes with us! Bless up!

Trying my first KDP book after watching your videos. Thank you so much.
You're welcome. Glad you found it useful.
Thanks Paul
Wish you could give us updates on sales of this beautiful coloring book
I'm blown away
Thanks once again Paul
Paul: "Thank you for the videos, you explain things very nicely. Could you please make a video giving an overview of the most important types of books, starting from the simplest to more advanced ones?"
Paul! I’m taking notes! I’m taking the leap! Just bought MidJourney for a year to test this out! Here’s to hoping it goes well! 😊
Edit: Well, shoot, Paul! I buy a MidJourney subscription and JSON decides he doesn’t want to deliver any more posts!
Edit again: It’s back up already! JSON has resumed his job!
Have you published a book? How's it going?
Someone in the cmt section felt that they feel obselete after learning illustration in PS for many years as ppl now doing it with few clicks using AI
I want to tell them that hardly 4/10 ppl actually publish their version!
So don't worry! Ur hardwork doesn't go in vain
Good God man... You answered every question I had about KDP and self publishing. Amazing content and delivery. Thank you.
Man, I discover your channel it's absolutely stunning. Best book creation tutorial I found so far. You got another follower🙏. Keep on posting.
Thank you. That’s very much appreciated.
Thank you for this tutorial… I published my first low content book ever today. Thanks a lot. This video is just amazing, it made it possible.😊
Congratulations! That's great to hear. 👍
Thank you so much for sharing this information! The way you explain things is amazing and so easy to understand. This is the first video I watched of you but I will make sure to watch every single one on your channel!!🔥
Just followed your video and I have manged not only to upload but also learned how to create ebook. Now just waiting for review. THANK YOU
I had no idea KDP was so simple. I have created several childrens books with chatGPT which i am blown away by and will now get onto creating some illustration for it with MidJourney so I can start to publish it. My son already loves me reading the short stories to him so I cant wait to see if people start buying it.
News flash: They wont. Normall coloring books are already pennies and people are not gonna buy AI books with wonky lines when books from like kerby rosanes are 10/15 books only.
did you earn some money on it?
Thank you so much Mr.Paul. One of the best tutorial I had ever seen about Amazon KDP. It was very informative and you didn't leave even a single step. I had seen so many videos but no one had ever shared these many steps and it was the best videos in TH-cam. I appreciate your time and help. May god bless you. Once again thank you so much.❤✨
You're welcome. That's very much appreciated. I'm glad you found it helpful.
Am glad it helped you. Watch more of his vids, they will take u a long way. Goodluck
Thank you. I'm glad you found it helpful. And welcome from India! 🙂
thank you, i think i will make my first coloring book tonight. Always grateful to you!
You're welcome. Go for it!
A wonderful tutorial. I was particularly interested in the Midjourney part, as I was familiar with Canva and KDP already. Thanks!
You're welcome. Glad you found it useful.
One of the best and detailed you'll find on youtube! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome and thank you too.
@@paulmarles Thanks again to you! Contents always very complete and useful.
I already did this. Just about every part of my Easter coloring book and Word search book was created by AI, with assistance from GIMP. from the inner contents to the front and back covers. But I didn't only use MJ. I also used completely free AI generators from Blue Willow and LeonardoAI
Dear, i tried with bluewillow many times, but i couldnt generate image properly as coloring book page,if you can, give me prompt as example 😢 huge help
@@DiLsHika588 Try Leonardoai instead. Thye still have a free account, and use Leonardo Signature with Prompt Magic. That would definitely get you where you want to be. I got a bit lucky with Blue Willow also, but it was a crap shoot.
Great suggestions. I'll take a look at them.
I was under the impression Leonardo AI made images public, but playgroundAI doesn't. Am I wrong? Someone please correct me.
@@dudeman0811 There is a paid version of Leonardoai where you can create private images. Not sure about Playgroundai, but in my opinion Leonadooai is so much better,.
Thanks Man !!!

I have published my first coloring book now !
Gratiful a lot !!!
I literally just uploaded a coloring book about 30 min ago doing this exact same thing with MJ and canva. It took me about 3 months (I have a full time job and a toddler lol) I appreciate your ar prompt hint, that's a good thing to know so all the result pages aren't square. Cheers!
Congrats on your new coloring book. Having a toddler alone is a full time job. Well done!!
congrats, I wanted to ask is it safe to use Ai, as I saw some articles where it was written that ai images can be detected, so later may be amazon implement this and you lose your seller account(I hope not)
That's great to hear. Thank you for watching. 👍
@@wol.wordsoflegends I have the commercial version of MJ so there shouldn't be any issues (but the world is always changing)

I learned so much from this video, and I'm grateful for the time and effort you put into creating it. Thank you for sharing your insights with us, and for inspiring us to think more deeply about the world around us.
The BEST BEST tutorial on youtube. VERY DETAILED. Thank you, Sir!!!
You're welcome. Thank you too for watching.
One thing I will say is make sure you are using V4. You can hit /settings and it will show you which version you are using. I find V4 works so much better. The current newest is V5 and it makes images look too real for these types of designs
v5 is good for adults coloring pages
Hi, one stupid question- can someone of you please advise how long it takes for Midjourney to reply back?
@@Dani_UK like 30 seconds. It's really fast. Unless you're talking about emailing the company. I'm not sure their response time
@@Teamshmo Thank you for the quick reply! No I am not talking about emails. I am in discord and I am not familiar with it. And some how I ended up there. I have opened one group chat, called newbie’s and tried to type the basic command, but the bot is still replying to people, who asked one week ago and I still haven’t been answered
Just to update. Don’t kill the nubies 😁. I haven’t used the right command . When I get myself familiar with the user manual it start creating amazing results ☺️
Thank you so much for dedicating your time to making this video as a rookie I felt like this was the most beginner friendly Video ever. I plan on publishing my 1st book within the next 24 hrs Thanks to you, Peace love & blessings

Great video. I can finally publish my graphics from 1972 and of course that life story. Awesome teaching and sharing style.

Hi Captain...this is 2023. Happy days, i have not been logging in for a while. I did KDP and made no money. lol Now here for AI stuff.
This is INCREDIBLE!
I made and published my coloring book during my son’s sporting practice today!!
Congratulations! That's great to hear. I used to publish my books at my son's tennis practie!
My first KDP book on Amazon is published. Thank you so much Paul.
Congratulations! That's great to hear.
@@paulmarles any sales so far ? :)
Thanks SO MUCH for this very informative video! I like how you explain this step by step. Even though I have never done anything like this before I am sure that I could do this. Your explanations are so simple and easy to understand. If it wasn't 1:23 a.m. I would probably start on this right now.
Thank you. 😆
Brother, you've inspired me to do this and earned a subscriber. Thank you
Thank you so much, I used your info to understand the kdp process.
Congratulations on publishing your book! Cats are very popular so mystical cat portraits sounds like a very good idea to come up with.

Hello Paul and thank you! Everything seems so simple with you! I love it!

That's an awesome video. I never thought about publishing a book but now I really am interested making a coloring book for our 6 year old and publish it. I hope I find the time.
Thank you. Glad you found it useful.
He's helping flood an already flooded market. (with lazy deformed "creations") Next 2 years, continues to saturate. Books sell for pennies.
Paul thank you so much for your tutorial 🙏🏻 it's short, clear and easy to understand. I am doing a coloring with midjourney right now. Your tutorial helped me a lot ✌🏻
Paul, your tutorial is amazing and easy to follow. Thank you so much for selflessly sharing your knowledge!
You’re welcome. 👍
This is actually cool to watch my kids love dinosaurs and coloring
Thank you. 👍
That's great to hear. 👍 AI for both image creation and writing is incredible and moving along at a rapid pace.
@@cotch40 I use image upscalers and recently - a vectorizer. midjourney's resolution is not enough for print.
Sir i am thankful to you..i was trying hard to earn money online and wasted many weeks in watching thousands of fake videos on youtube but i finally found u and published my 1st colouring book on amazon kdf exactly following your procedure thanks alot🎉❤
can you update us on your sales till date?
how is it going?
Hi Paul, thanks for the step by step guide, much appreciated. I do have a question though, is there a completely free to use AI art tool that I can use instead of Midjourney that allows me to keep the licence... normally I'd happily pay for such a powerful tool but due to a series of life altering events I find myself struggling (financially and physically), so I'm looking for ways to start from scratch and maybe get some pocket money, and at least this idea will cost me nothing to try right!
Thanks for your time.
Your step to step take through is owesome , am obsessed, more vid please,

Thank you for making this super straightforward tutorial Paul! Just hit publish on my first coloring book "Zen Garden Coloring Book for Adults". It's a fun process generating the content with ai.
Hey! Congrats! How is it doing? Any sales?
Thank you for all the information- are we still able to make coloring books, I thought I heard we couldn’t?
Hi Paul, i spent many hours learning kdp and there were still many questions, but this one video of yours helped answer almost all of them, thanks a lot!🙏 I just don't understand how kdp approved your submission in this video if they have a minimum resolution of 300dpi, and Canva only saves in 144dpi, with the PDF for print option, or perhaps because you have a pro account and there is a higher dpi? Also, you didn't mention the CMYK requirement, because the free version of canva allows you to save PDF, only in RGB 🌟 Anyway, thanks alot again for this tutorial!
Canva Pro allows cmyk downloads best for printing.
Glad you found it helpful. 👍
Thanks for the video, just published my first coloring book thanks to your guidance.
Congratulations! That's great to hear. 👍
Thank you for this tutorial. However, I'd like to point out something. When you resize the image as you did in canva, you compromise its quality. Depending on the image, you may end up with a pixelated illustration after printing it through KDP.
How to get around this issue so it’s not pixelated?
Quite helpful thanks. I’ve been using both Canva and Midjourney for a while for marketing and other needs. Looking at creating a series of books to help my niche education brand.
I took a look at your channel and I think educational books would be a great fit.
@@paulmarles Thanks! Getting closer to finishing my project. Question: why the black color for a background? I think it works, but just curious if in the paperback print process it looks better with your branded colors?
Thanks. Question: The 80 PDF pages you created = alternating 40 coloring + 40 blank, right?
That is correct. One side of page has the image and the other side of the page is blank.
Hey Pual, I wanna say big thank you from Thailand. This VDO very informative and useful. And now I am subscribing. " God bless you!"

Thanks Paul for making this KDP journey easier and interesting with all you share.

Thanks to your video I have published 1 coloring book
Hi Paul, do you need to upgrade the MidJourney generated images since they are only about half the size we need them to be for an 8.5 x 11 coloring book?
It depends on the quality that you can live with. I personally upscale mine 2x to 4x to get crisper lines. It's an extra step and makes your process a bit longer. However, once you get a system it's not so bad.
Thank you. I'll try that.
As I understand it, opening in a browser before saving increases the image size too.
That's a good suggestion. 👍
Thanks everyone! Great suggestions.
such a brilliant video, really clear explanation , thank you so much , I am a complete beginner , but really excited to start!
Currently, AI generated artwork is clearly a violation of copyright and it’s not legal to use it for commercial purposes. Amazon could be liable for infringement if they knowingly allow your ai content to be published
Ok boomer
Thanks
You're welcome. 👍
I feel as if I owe you money. Examples and coherent explanations were perfect. I'll keep eyes out on your product line. Thank You
Will Amazon allow these AI generated images in future? How much sure you are?
same doubt
