    Rumor has it that CJ sleeps on a bed made out of Red Wing boxes. Eats on a table made out of Red Wing boxes. Bathes in a tub made of Red Wing boxes. Sits on a chair....well, you get it.

    I confess: I never really liked rough and tough leather. But I need to recognize that after the treatment the boots got infinitely better than before! Maybe now I buy something in rough and tough. Another great video!

    I always use Fiebing’s mink oil liquid. Makes the leather supple and protects the leather against water and snow. The number one advantage is that it doesn’t darken the leather. When it’s 10-12 hours after applying the oil, the leather has its original color. Great product and cheaper than other mink like products

    I used Neatsfoot oil, on my 8085 and amber harness. Looks rich in colour! Use a small applicator brush 5o get into the difficult areas. Look OK. They will lighten slowly. Makes the leather look rich!

    Bold move using the leather conditioner lol, I always stick to Bick 4 for my boots, no matter the color, it doesn't darken leather in my experience, at least not all at once. Looks like they'll build up a nice patina with that finish! Very nice.

    Hi. They Did need some conditioning. They were Dry.
    I think we over Condition Leather and it weakens the Leather. I see you only used your finger and used the Conditioner lightly. Great Job!
    Bickmore 4 is another Great Leather Conditioner.

    I’ve used redwing mink oil on my copper rough and tough round toes as it was recommended on the redwing heritage website. Worked out fine a bit of darkening. The trouble with mink oil is that it takes longer to soak in than the redwing leather conditioner

    Cj I've been pretty happy with a mixed up concoction of boot oil and leather cream. You'll have to try it next time you are trying to decide between the two. My local redwing slathers the boot oil on but I prefer a little less when I do it at home. Find the mixture does pretty well especially on areas that have gotten scuffed during the day.

  • @jacobbrooks7862

    Am I mistaken in my knowledge that the “ copper rough and tough” is an almost “rough-out” leather in that the top layer has been removed as to make it a Nubuck? And if so, wouldn’t it be easier to over condition the leather? I’ve a pair of rough- necks and I’m gun shy on what to put on ‘em was why I was asking. Btw longtime subscriber and fan of your channel! Good stuff indeed! Keep it up.

    • @CJCook
      @CJCook  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Copper Rough & Tough is a "waxed" nubuck. Leather cream is good to put on them if you are timid.

    It's been my experience that mink oil softens the leather; not a positive trait for leather goods worn for support. Mink oil is great for water resistant but in my opinion diminish the leather's insulation for cold weather. The conditioner he is using has mink oil as only one of 3 ingredients. The other 2 are solids at room temp.
