Bunaye - Should One Piece REALLY Get a Remake?
i dont think most fans would have even heard about parasyte, dororo and devilman if not for the remakes and reimagining, we need them. there are a lot of jump classics that made jump popular which are almost forgotten, hope we get some remakes for them

@@RenderingUser I believe that's what they meant. The Parasyte anime is a modern adaptation of the manga while staying faithful to it. New character and settings designs, music reflecting the debut time period, plus the more advance animation equipment made the series visually beautiful. In that way, you can call it a "remake".
Remakes for older anime is definitely something that should be considered by the industry as a whole since some of the older ones were not seasonal but weekly, adding a lot of unnecessary filler scenes and arcs as a whole. So revisiting those that were affected the most by sticking closer to the source material while having a visual overhaul, would be tremendous. I'd definitely love to see a remake of Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya, although the chances for the latter are almost non existant unfortunately
Hopefully they will bring the classic hellsing story back🥹
This is how I feel like for Yu-Gi-Oh; it's 50 percent filler. Some of it adds more depth to characters and those are good but it's so off from the manga.

I believe any iconic anime like the “big three” deserves a remake for a fresh start, and I think One Piece might be the one to make it happen. It’s unfortunate that such a beloved series has ended up in the hands of a studio that’s not up to par.

Wit is such a perfect studio for one piece
The animation of Toei is great. It's the direction that they go with that isn't. They release episodes weekly and have been for a really long time. Simply there isn't enough time for animators to animate. This is the entire fault of the directors who prefer weekly episodes at the cost of quality than giving the animator time to flesh out the animation.

I want this remake to be something like Hunter X Hunter (2011) was for Hunter x Hunter (1999) , this could very well shut up all the criticism for one piece and get the too many episodes people into the series

5:43 I heavily disagree with One Piece sound design being "low quality." The sound effects still hold up to this day, that's why it hasn't changed all that much.
I was about to say Tokyo Ghoul needs an remake for sure and also I would love to see an Death Note Remake with better quality and a better second season. Promised Neverland deserves a better second Season too

The biggest issue with the Netflix remake is that the first sage East Blue doesn't suffer from the problems with pacing. So there isn't any real benefit that will be seen by initially. Pacing issues really started once they got past East Blue. There is some filler in East Blue, but it doesn't get added until they get to Loguetown which is last arc in the saga. Two filler stories were added to Loguetown where Usopp gets his goggles and Sanji enters a cooking contest. Once they leave Lougetown their is a long filler arc called Warship Island but this is just something that can be skipped by newer viewers as easily as Wit will skip it for their animation. I will state that Warship Island isn't horrible, but you could skip it as it adds no lore value to the story because it's mostly driven by Apis, the little girl they meet along the way. Usopp's filler story does give his character some depth but Sanji's story really doesn't. These will be removed from Wit's animating. But I don't think what has been announced will be an improvement over what Toei did with East Blue. In fact I don't see much being improved until Skypeia which will be 3 season into the new animination. Skypeia is really where the problems start to surface with pacing. This is where end boss fights start to drag on.
The problem arises with Netflix and how they release the arcs. Now Netflix hasn't been all that punctual with releasing any of their series. So how long will it be before Skypeia. If Netflix releases two seasons per year, I think it will be fine. But I'm just not sure they are going to do even 1 season per year. And even if Netflix brings new viewers to the series, I think they'll lose a lot of the initial viewers to people that will just jump ship back to the original Toei animation. Once they get past that hurdle, it'll be fine. But is Netflix going to be committed to fully animating the entire One Piece to it's end? At this point I have my doubts. And if so, how long is that going to take? Even at fast pacing of Saga releases, this is at least 12 years and possibly longer depending on how long the final saga takes to get completed in the source material. The real issues with pacing only get exacerbated with the Dresrossa arc. And this is after the timeskip. So after East Blue, Alabasta, Skypeia, Water 7, Thriller Bark, Summit War, and Fishman Island. That is a lot of stuff before new viewer have much reason to not jump over to the Toei. And it just don't think it's going to work out. Keep in mind these arc will directly follow the Live Acted version that Neflix is also funding. So there isn't any incentive on their part for their animation to ever overtake the Live Acted series.
Fun fact the east blue is very poorly paced still I mean the anime legit started adapting the manga 2 years after the manga started ofc it would be bad pacing but not only did toei adapt more chapters per ep back then (still slow though) but they hid the poor pacing way better especially since they were adapting more per ep so it was easier to hide I think this remake will actually show you how poorly the original anime was

I thought the pacing was okay through east blue up to like Jaya, until I started the manga and realized how weird the pacing actually is. as u said, they used to hid it better back then but it WILL be noticeable once the remake comes out !

the charm of what makes one piece so great is the adavancement of the studio with the anime, i feel like the vibe early one piece had was amplified due to the animation, for every point in the series i feel like the animation fit them perfectly. If one piece were to get a remake it would't have the same feeling it has now.

One Piece definitely needs it because of how much Toei butchered the manga for the most part. Anime onlies have no idea how much nonsense is added to the anime. Most One Piece criticism is the fault of Toei but unfortunately gets attributed to Oda.

Don't forget they had successful rebooted /remake Sailor Moon with SM: Crystal that faithfully follow the manga storyline and was a little bit more darker the 1990s original. Plus they took out all the boring fillers with the monster a week scenario.

There were a lot of reasons why HxH 2011 exists. The quality of animation of 99 is not one of them. It actually did multiple scenes better in my opinion.

i don’t think the animation of 99 is bad, as i stated in the video, since the resolution was low due to the time it was made, it would’ve been weird if they just continued the adaptation with drastically higher quality. half of the show would look old and the other a lot more modern, and so the smartest route was to reboot instead of picking it back up where they left off 10 years later. thank you for watching :)
@@Bunayeimo that should have been more clear in the video. the "quality" of 99 is very high, and has some of the nicest photography in 90's anime, and the backgrounds always look stunning, with legendary animators like Norio Matsumoto, animating some fights. It also has Kazuhiro Furuhashi as a director, who is just amazing, and you can feel his touch all over the series. The music is also great. The only thing that I agree with is low quality is the sound effects, but that's pretty minor if you ask me.

I started watching One Piece in May 2024, amd have caught up. I didnt have a problem with the og animation quality, but seeing it with better pacing and high quality would be amazing, especially for veteran fans

The Live Action has brought on new fans which means new customers for old and new merch; but many still are afraid to commit to the Anime due to it's length. A fresh start for them with the Redone Anime, possibly fixing any censorship and non-canon issues (keep G8 and some filler), would ease them into the Fandom and perhaps even lead them to one day checking out/buying the old anime. Oda is $ Genius.
I think The Remake will probably be seasonal so each season will take a good amount of time to produce. If the one piece manga ends lets say, 5-10 years from now, it would probably take a good number of years for the remake to catch up.

when do you think this remake could be coming out? I personally would say every popular Anime deserves and should get a remake every 20-25 years to keep up to date on the latest graphics, resolution etc. I also think the remake could be along side the live action like the saga which the live action was doing that saga would be what they remake, and they post them at the same time. After the big mom arc ended i was so fucking happy, i was so tired of waiting a week just to see luffy and katakuri glancing at each other and exhanging one punch the whole episode followed by multiple cuts of big mom screaming “CaAeAeEEAeKEeAea”. I almost quit one piece back then, then a month or so later when luffy first faced off against kaido i just couldn’t take it anymore with the flash backs. I decided to wait two weeks so i could watch two ep at once. About 2-3 years later now i’ve got a lot of catching up to do cuz i still haven’t continued from back then 💀

Tbh I just prefer the older style of animation in one piece. I really do miss when luffy looked pretty darn cool with that hair style that was more free flow and curly, also his face shape is slightly different now in the newer style which isn't my cup of tea, and sometimes he has some weird veins on his forehead like bruh

No, the older anime style is so much more detailed, colourful, dynamic, and unique. The new ones are just filled with fake hype, constantly plasticy bright colours and sun blur, and less experimental camera angles, styles, and moments

One Piece totally needs a remake. I started my one piece journey during the Whole Cake Island arc when the anime was 800+ episodes. The slow pacing, useless and the indian-movies-show-every-shocked-face fillers made catching up a nightmare. So I can say without the shadow of a doubt and past experience that remaking the anime will be tremendously helpful for new audience

isn’t Netflix releasing it? if so, they’ll drop full seasons as to not interfere with One Piece. on Wikipedia, it’s listed under ONA similar the Great Pretender, which also dropped full seasons
Personally, I'd rather have the One Piece remake be a revision or rewrite. Than it just being the same story and plot as the anime, with a modern look.

@@Bunaye yeah, something like it. For One Piece to be remade, I think it would be fun and interesting to see how certain arcs would have played out differently, and how it would impact the story. Sure, it would give newcomers a chance to indulge in the story of One piece without worrying about the long episode count. but to me, a remake feels like an opportunity to tell a potentially greater story.
@@The...Nobody No offence but that's probably a terrible idea. The overall way One Piece is written has a bunch of trivial details become much more important later on. Unless the author himself is involved, I don't believe fans will appreciate changes to the story. Deviating from the source material because the new director can't put aside their hubris is the reason most live action adaptations fail, also the reason why Tokyo Ghoul fell off.
@@nou2097 Your good. But the live action One Piece had Oda involved, and it still had changes that many thought were great, and others distasteful. So when it comes to stuff like this, negative feedback is inevitable. I'm just saying that I'm open to seeing some changes in the story as long as it's carefully orchestrated and overseen by Oda. But I get what you're saying though. Straying away from the source material is VERY risky business. Just look at the live action Dragon Ball movie 😬
@@The...Nobody The only reason any of that stuff was changed was because real people and objects behave in different ways to anime characters, and the live action had huge time constraints. What's the point of risking it? Even while overseen by Oda, you yourself admit some of the changes were not favourable in the live action. I understand some minor changes here and there (what happens with every remake), but telling a different story sounds like a dumb idea. If it's not manga accurate, then there's no point making a remake.
If this remake does well we may finally have a chance for a good Berserk anime.
The problem that I have with the idea of remaking classic anime is the amount of time that it will take to do so. Using the one piece remake as an example, even if they cut the amount of episodes in half, it will still take about ten years to get to the end of Wanno. And that's assuming that they release on a weekly schedule the entire time. Most anime that are coming out recently are seasonal and not weekly. If they release 24 episodes a year, which is still a lot for current anime production, and they cut the amount of episodes in half, it will take more than 20 years to finish Wanno. At that point, most people would rather just deal with the bad pacing than to watch for 20 years and still not have a conclusion. Also, a lot of the bad pacing is in the newer arcs, like dressrosa or whole cake island, while the older ones are much better paced. This means, aside from animation, the remake isn't going to be that much better than the original for the first half of its run. Finally, WIT studio won't be able to make as many new anime because their focus is going to be on one piece, which I think will be bad for the industry.
Most of these problems will also apply to the other classic anime that could get a remake, like Naruto, Bleach, or Dragon Ball. I love HXH and FMAB as much as anyone, but what made them work is that there was a stronger reason to remake them and they were much shorter stories that were made back when anime came out faster, with HXH only taking 3 years and FMAB only taking a year and a half. I have no doubt that a remake of classic anime would be better quality than the original, I just don't think that its worth the time and resources to make them.
i see what you’re saying. thanks for sharing your take. im definitely looking forward to seeing how it’s gonna play out. as you said no matter how much better the pacing is, there’s still a lot of things to cover and its definitely going to take a while to adapt the entire source material. that’s why i found it odd that a remake is happening whilst there’s already an adaptation that’s still airing.
The pacing is not the only problem with the One Piece anime. There's so much bs filler mixed in to pretty much every canon episode. One Piece is need of a remake.

i started to watch one piece 4 months ago, at first i was hesitant to start it but i still started it, i didnt even care about the animation, it was that good that i used to watch 35 ep of one piece a day. Now what im saying now is remaking it makes me sad bc the thing that lead me to watch one piece was the pacing,and now when i think about it, i wouldnt want for one piece to like have a lower pacing and have like 120 or even 300 ep, i still want to watch luffys adventures even if it has to be 1000 ep or more, anyways thats just my opinion, also im at ep 726 where we finally see gear 4 so yeah
Well, to be fair it probably wouldn't be 100-300 . It would probably be half the episode so probably between 500-700 episodes.
Honestly, a Naruto and Bleach Remake would probably happen when you realize the current age range of those who grew up watching the series originally. Many of which are in their late twenties to mid 30s. The age range on the younger Millennials who will likely tone in for nostalgia and on the older side will probably show their own children the series. Because you can not tell me that the oldsr Millennials in their late 30s and 40s haven't shared their love for DragonBall with their own kids.

I don't like One Piece at all AND I can't spend 18 days of my life for a binge-watch if the noteworthy episodes that unveil the plot are just the last ones. What's the meaning of watching that clown pirate saga? Does it add something? But a real remake that's a full rewrite in 8 seasons 12 episodes each ... maybe I'll give a try. I suppose I'm not the only one in this situation.
there are good episodes here and there but the pacing and filler is ridiculous. i definitely recommend waiting for the remake as it’s claiming to fix all of those annoying issues that ruin the viewing experience for many

Clown pirate saga fits the for kids dub, but not one piece at all. The anime can have pacing issue, but it’s still good. Plus the animation and a really good. If someone wants to start one piece and doesn’t have time to watch all over 1000 episodes, then the manga is the right choice.
