  • Producing music with a time constraint can be a great way to get out of your head as it forces you to think quickly and trust your instincts. In this video we set a 10 minute timer and try to make an entire hip hop beat as quickly as possible. We also talk through the workflow and share some Ableton Live tips and shortcuts.
    Get the sounds used in the beat:

    The keyboard used in this video was the Novation Launchkey Mini

    This is absolute madness. I recently just switched to Ableton and am in love with it, but it's lack of having a drum step sequencer is really driving me nuts. Because this man is obviously an Ableton wizard, he made it look quick and easy, but this "drum rack, draw in midi notes" business is for the birds...Even so, what he did to create the drum pattern is still the long way around in comparison to having a step sequencer. FL, Studio One, and now Logic (as well as others I'm sure I'm missing), all have drum step sequencers built into them. Ableton really needs to catch up to 2020.

      Yeah, I have to say for beat making, and especially beats from sampled music, FL Studio is still king. I don't use it so even with Ableton 11 I still can't do shit in it that I could with FL.

    • @darrenhirst9900

      I'm a FL Studio user and I tried Ableton and I do like it apart from that step sequencer.
      FL Studio still has the best one.

    • @nickthechen
      @nickthechen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It is specifically the C harmonic minor. (C D Eb F G Ab B ) . When the V chord (or G in this case) is a Dominant 7th (G B D F ) it gives a very distinct feeling.

    I'm thinking about switching to ableton 11 but looking for videos of people making tracks in 10 minutes or under.
    That's where I'm at in my current DAW. Within seconds of opening my DAW, I can have a melody laid down, and already begin thinking about the other elements in my tracks.
    If I can't do that in 10 minutes, that DAW isn't for me lol.
    I've tried ableton lite and I did NOT like the layout whatsoever. Honestly navigating most DAWs is trash.
    I need my playlist to the right, my browser to the left, sequencer in the middle, and I need 1 click access to the mixer. I also require 1 click access to a dropdown of all my plugins. It's the only way for me.
