I really enjoyed Season 5 b/c it was such a different route for Dexter to explore. To aide a victim to punish these monsters for what they did to her, is helping Dexter to heal in his grief and guilt over not being able to protect Rita and discover his human side. I was impressed by Julia Stiles performance and for doing such a difficult role justice. Literally.

I'm reading this years later and this comment just struck me as really funny knowing how terribly the show ended up going downhill in S6 and let's not even talk about that finale 😑
I wish Lumen hadn't left. I don't feel like we were done exploring what it was like for Dexter to really feel human. Lumen was a massive step for him emotionally, and the second she left he went right back to "I'm so empty and in-capable of real human connection" even though we just spent the last few episodes watching how much he could connect with Lumen. Just because she left doesn't mean it didn't count. Wish she hadn't left though. :(
Lumen was my favorite character i the show, barring only (and barely!) Dexter himself. i wish they brought her back, but respect not doing so if that truly didn't make sense for her character - though i'm unsure about that myself. Julia Stiles was absolutely stupendous in the role, as was the Deb actor in the showdown scene! thank you to all who made this, especially the actors playing Dexter, Lumen and Deb!
this was one of my favorite seasons so far! I just loved Lumen's interaction with Dexter, and to have it end was so sad :( And it didn't seem real, I figured Lumen would have wanted to stay with Dexter. I so desperately hope they bring her back!
I know a lot of people don’t like this season, but it’s one of my favorites. I loved this character and her backstory and how her and Dexter worked together. I miss the old Dexter 😭
I loved Lumen and her and Dexter together. She's my favourite of Dexter's romances and together with Deb, my favourite women characters in the series. I hated how Hannah came back. I wish Lumen would've come back in Dexter's life.
i was shipping them so hard! i wanted Lumen to be Dexter's ride-or-die till the end, but i get it. it had to end. once she healed, letting her leave was a kindness. a life with Dexter would have stunted her. anyone who truly loved her would want more for her. and if Dexter wasn't cray he would have eventually cut her loose out of love and faith in what her life could still be.
@ShadowDog415 I think dexter found something in luman that he could never find in rita; as much as rita was hurt in her life, there is no way she could shoulder the truth about dexter's darkness. Luman on the other hand gave dexter what he always needed. He was so certain he had no emotions but i think he felt that way because the truth of his life was too much for anyone to bear, and then Luman comes along and he opens up to her in a way he never did with anyone, not even rita.
I enjoyed this season so much. Completely different from what I originally expected. It's going to be great to see what happens next season and I hold out hope that Lumen may return at some point.
I really liked Lumen and wished she was on the show more. I never cared that much for Rita and Lumen seemed like a breath of fresh air. She went through a traumatic experience and was strong enough to overcome it. She also connected with Dexter in a strong way and you could see how much he loved her
loved the lumen story the pure honestly in her and dexter's relationship loved how well it was played the break up you can see the frustration the anger and hurt by what she did to him like she said her rejecting him
Dexter's parting words to Lumen made me cry. Julia did a phenomenal job and articulated her role wonderfully. The chemistry between them was beautiful to watch. I actually didn't like Rita and found her quite annoying.
Brilliantly said; I wasnt able to fully articulate what it was about Lumen leaving Dexter that was so heartbreaking. It was a total rejection of everything---that she alone was shown---of who Dexter is. Sad :-(
Everything else that happened during the last season would have made much better sense if it was Lumen instead of psycho Hannah. I didn't buy Dexter being in love with Hannah (it was pure lust) or Deb being ok with her after she attempted to murder her and knew she killed innocents. And why would he leave Harrison with her? Him wanting to leave to start over with Lumen made better sense, and him leaving her and Harrison behind to keep them safe would have been more believable.
i hope if they start listening to the fans and idk, make a season 9, we'll have her come back or, see a news paper article where it says "the rapist killer caught : woman who haunted sexual predators was caught by NYPD" or any sort of easter egg.
I thought this was a new video, and when I saw it said 'Returns' at the end, I quickly thought it was actually coming back, that they might give it the ending it deserves, but damn, just an old video. :c
Michael C. Hall is a brilliant actor and one of the very best out there today. For those of you that want him to cry..........NO he can't............LOL. It's in there deep and we know it, but it has to stay in there. Amazing show and the only reason I subscribe to Showtime once a year.
They were worried that Michael C Hall would be too sick to continue, so as a potential final season, this was excellent. I am very glad to see DEXTER come back for another season, but Julia Stiles is right...where do they go from here?? I hope she returns in the next season, she was wonderful. And props to Johnny Miller!! whoohoo! He played an Phenominal "Jordan Chase". The last episode did a great job wrapping up, unlike last season...I am still creeped out by Rita's death. Love this Show!!!!
Julia Stiles' acting as Lumen is brilliant. She impressed me as much as John Lithgow did in season 4. Peter Weller as Stan Liddy ...terrific performance.
Julia Stiles was nothing short of amazing this season. I wasn't happy with the ending, but as the first guest star that's character has survived, we might see her again. Maybe in trouble, or with a relative or a friend in trouble. Or pregnant (though we have been there already).
It's sad how they ended up but I think it makes sense. She could heal herself. Nobody who has lived something like that can. It's interest because I think the writters of Dexter wanted to say if u could kill someone who's done something like that to you, you'd be healed, u'd be vengeanced, because u could live without being afraid anymore. I think it's very interest view. Very sad for me to see dexter alone again, because I saw myself in him, and in that time I though: Is it not possible somebody saty with somebody like him (me)? But I understood, I felt glad because Lumen could fix herself, even dexter (or me) couldn't. It was the best season, so touching. I've never seen before or after something like that. And Julia Stiles was perfect for the character. So great actress. The end of dexter was in some way, dissapointing, after things like that.
i kinda anticipated that lumen will leave dexter and jordan chase will be killed by him, but i totally didn't expected debra to walk in on them killing jordan and let them off! that was such a great twist! great writing man, e show never fails to surprise u ;) love it!
I only know Julia Stiles from Dexter, but thats enough to say that she is a great actress. She was removed too fast from the show, she should've stay longer. Lumen was such a great character.
Julia Stile was AWESOME on this show. I really wish she didn't have to go):... Lumen made Dexter alive again, in a way that he'll never be again. I feel sooo sorry for him:(! But i guess i understand she didn't want to kill anymore and the darkness was out of her..
@Bassen1337 Me too. I was sadder when Lumen left than when Rita died. Lumen and Dexter were perfect together. Dex had finally found somone who saw him as he really is and didn't think of him as a monster. If he can't even be with someone like Lumen, then what? Is he gonna be alone forever? :(
I started watching Dexter 1/2 way through s4, & became addicted (& got my sister addicted too). Julia Stiles was amazing. She could convincingly convey vulnerability & strength in the same 60 seconds. Loved how strongly she fought Jordan (although 2no avail) when he kidnapped her. I was very happy w/ the ending. Yes, she & Dexter were great 2gether, but glad she decided she really wasn't like him. I didn't want her 2end n such a dark place & I think n the end, D was glad she made that choice.
THis season was good, good story line and script but was less tensed in tone towards the end. Usually from the middle episodes, things get more interesting and paced up until the finale. THe thing is that Dexter is not the only one to know his secret and he let her go. He transgressed Larry's code. Will she still be loyal to Dexter. Logically somenone bearing a secret like this never stay unconspicous for long. Hooray to season 6.
I honestly did not like Lumen at first, but when I realized she was the first person who saw Dexter for who he actually was, I fell in love with her. She was the only person who made him feel good about what he was doing. He judges himself so harshly, so it was amazing that someone could show him that there is good in him. I honestly believe he's an amazing person, and it kills me that he thinks he's a monster. I'm so sad that Lumen is gone because her rejecting him is just awful.
I think the reason why this season is being criticized a lo is because of the preceding events, but if they put in this storyline at the right time, it would have been the best, I haven't been following dexter during his relationship with Rita, mostly coz I was a lil annoyed with her, but this relationship between lumen and dexter hooked me in!!! I just watched it from when he saved lumen!!! best couple ever
@silverladyz Julia stiles was great. The character lumen was aware of who Dexter really was which is why they had that closeness which Dexter and Rita never had. Rita expected to much from Dexter as a husband and father like most women but lumen experienced something most women don't and she could share it with Dexter hence the chemistry.
The break-up seemed like a twist for the sake of a twist. She could have kept loving and supporting him, if she was indeed convinced Dexter was a true good guy. As Kenny Loggins said, "Running away will never make you free." Lumen's pattern is to run away, so I suppose it does make some sense. Lots for the writers to think about over the next year. Great season. Some of those episodes were so tense it was tough to watch. Great job all around guys.
Boy I can't imagine anyone as Lumen other than Julia Stiles. Her acting was superb in the series and I wished she stayed with Dex but they had to seperate.
I wish they had kept Lumen in the show! She was one of my favourite recurring characters.

I wish Lumen hadn't left. I don't feel like we were done exploring what it was like for Dexter to really feel human. Lumen was a massive step for him emotionally, and the second she left he went right back to
"I'm so empty and in-capable of real human connection" even though we just spent the last few episodes watching how much he could connect with Lumen.
Same! I’m shocked people don’t like it .
I cried like a little bitch when she left him... Julia Stiles did a great job in this season, fantastic!
I loved Lumen and her and Dexter together. She's my favourite of Dexter's romances and together with Deb, my favourite women characters in the series. I hated how Hannah came back. I wish Lumen would've come back in Dexter's life.
She should be in the reboot/sequel. They both live a quiet life together
she reminds me of Ronda Rousey but she's prettier then Ronda.
Smarter in the first place.
Rondas built like a guy
i was shipping them so hard! i wanted Lumen to be Dexter's ride-or-die till the end, but i get it. it had to end. once she healed, letting her leave was a kindness. a life with Dexter would have stunted her. anyone who truly loved her would want more for her. and if Dexter wasn't cray he would have eventually cut her loose out of love and faith in what her life could still be.
I wish they kept Lumen around I would have much rather her than Hannah any day
Even Julia was surprised by her breaking up with Dexter. It made no sense.
She also connected with Dexter in a strong way and you could see how much he loved her
She was the best guest character ever. Bring her back.
could they bring lumen back in season9,please!
Great actress, great character. I really like the alchemy between dexter and lumen, it's a very beautiful relationship.
loved the lumen story the pure honestly in her and dexter's relationship loved how well it was played the break up you can see the frustration the anger and hurt by what she did to him like she said her rejecting him
Intelligent actress!
She's damn smart.
While S4 is incredibly strong, I thought s5 did really interesting and creative things that never quite happened again in the show.
I like this woman's voice
Dexter's parting words to Lumen made me cry. Julia did a phenomenal job and articulated her role wonderfully. The chemistry between them was beautiful to watch. I actually didn't like Rita and found her quite annoying.
What a well-spoken woman.
Brilliantly said; I wasnt able to fully articulate what it was about Lumen leaving Dexter that was so heartbreaking. It was a total rejection of everything---that she alone was shown---of who Dexter is. Sad :-(
The creators should’ve brought Lumen back instead of bringing on Hannah Mckay
Everything else that happened during the last season would have made much better sense if it was Lumen instead of psycho Hannah. I didn't buy Dexter being in love with Hannah (it was pure lust) or Deb being ok with her after she attempted to murder her and knew she killed innocents. And why would he leave Harrison with her? Him wanting to leave to start over with Lumen made better sense, and him leaving her and Harrison behind to keep them safe would have been more believable.
I liked Lumen. She was a cool character and Julia Stiles did a good job with it.
Lumen is an awesome character. When she left in the scene, everyone in the room booed. What does that tell the writers?
i hope if they start listening to the fans and idk, make a season 9, we'll have her come back or, see a news paper article where it says "the rapist killer caught : woman who haunted sexual predators was caught by NYPD" or any sort of easter egg.
I thought this was a new video, and when I saw it said 'Returns' at the end, I quickly thought it was actually coming back, that they might give it the ending it deserves, but damn, just an old video. :c
Great explanation!
Can't believe how close Deb was to figuring Dex out. Hmmm maybe she did realize it was Dex and is choosing to keep quiet
Michael C. Hall is a brilliant actor and one of the very best out there today. For those of you that want him to cry..........NO he can't............LOL. It's in there deep and we know it, but it has to stay in there. Amazing show and the only reason I subscribe to
Showtime once a year.
I loved Lumen more than Hannah
Julia Stiles' acting as Lumen is brilliant. She impressed me as much as John Lithgow did in season 4.
Peter Weller as Stan Liddy ...terrific performance.
luv this how julia please come back
Julia Stiles was nothing short of amazing this season.
Congrats to Julia on her Globe nomination!
"Dexter Returns In 2011"
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite part of this season was Dexter's expression when she makes her first kill at ~3:17.
i kinda anticipated that lumen will leave dexter and jordan chase will be killed by him, but i totally didn't expected debra to walk in on them killing jordan and let them off! that was such a great twist! great writing man, e show never fails to surprise u ;) love it!
I only know Julia Stiles from Dexter, but thats enough to say that she is a great actress. She was removed too fast from the show, she should've stay longer. Lumen was such a great character.
My favorite season!
2 kinds of people in this world, those who think she was Dexter’s best love interest, and those who are wrong
It's torture having to wait so long between seasons. Dexter should have, at minimum a 40 week run.
very very very interesting season and Julia Stiles did a GRATE job. Can't wait for season 6 :((
THis season was good, good story line and script but was less tensed in tone towards the end.
Just must be more things in store for season 6!
Dexter rules.
Well done showtime.
I want Lumen to come back so bad!
By killing together, Dexter gained another piece of humanity. Huzzah for irony. Loved this season.
@silverladyz
Julia stiles was great. The character lumen was aware of who Dexter really was which is why they had that closeness which Dexter and Rita never had. Rita expected to much from Dexter as a husband and father like most women but lumen experienced something most women don't and she could share it with Dexter hence the chemistry.
I wished they stayed together :(
A surprising ending. Love this show.
"Lumen´s got some secrets she´s got to deal with" - so we´ll see her again? I honestly hope so!
I don’t get why people don’t like this season. It’s one of my favorites.
Boy I can't imagine anyone as Lumen other than Julia Stiles. Her acting was superb in the series and I wished she stayed with Dex but they had to seperate.
Lumen should've stayed. I liked Dexter and her's chemistry a lot.
Dexter/Lumen theme song: “I think I love you/ so what am I so afraid of…” Who’s more wholesome than them and the Partridge Family?
Cool actress, Dexter at his best with her acting. tuff stuff. great acting i always liked Julia she did this amazing acting. thanks guys.
Julia Stiles is gorgeous.
