Even if you want to believe cloud is now in love with aerith and shes gonna help him with lifestream magic. It is undeniable fact that younger cloud had a crush on tifa. Without Tifa there cloud has no anchor to reality via his past due to their shared history. Yes you can rewrite it to have aerith save him with magic but that would litterrally be handwaving the problem away and make for a weaker story overall. At best they could have tifa help cloud along with aeriths spirit guiding them along if they want to change it.
