I really enjoy your historical research. The latin origins of the word buckle and the medals awarded to pigeons during WWII were particular favourites this week. Your channel is a real treat for history junkies like me. Thanks!

Thanks Renee! We really enjoyed researching the finds this week! Especially the pigeon ring!! They’re such cool finds and the history is fascinating! Their service during WWII was heroic 👏

I believe of all the detectorists that I follow you are the most informed about the objects you find.

That mirrored metal disk looks like a punched out disk of "bright stainless" steel. Bright stainless is polished up like a mirror and could very well have been used in place of a glass one. Rufus is a cool hound! I'm surprised Lucy was born in 1991, I thought you were both younger than me 😂

Fascinating vid as always ☺️ I think the pocket watch was one of my fave finds - I would love to know how it was lost and the aftermath of that loss for its owner!!

Thank you! ❤️ imagine losing such an important heirloom as a pocket watch that’s been passed down 😯 a top find for sure!

Rufus was the best digging companion yet! 🤣 the pocket watch was a particular gem we never find them with innards remaining 😯 it’s most likely 19th Century 🤓

Hello ladies. You picked a lovely day for it.
Herein Farnborough, we had a visit from your very own flying fan club, the red arrows, yesterday. Just a fuel stop after a show somewhere, but nice to have them around again.
Did you get to see this weekend's Rime Team? If so, what did you think. I love seeing some of the original crew doing what they do best. I've grown to love every one of them over the years. Mick and Victor will always be sadly missed. Being a watercolour painter myself, I had great interest in Victor's paintings and illustrations. I'd really like to see Tony and Phil back in the team. Racksha, Brigid, and Faye would be more like home for me. However, there's one down side to it, the horrible effects that passing time has on these lovely people. I really don't like seeing people getting older. It's a constant reminder that mothing is forever. Some mind blowing finds in and around the dig site this time. Just a shame more time wasn't given to expand on it.
Ate you following the Sutton Hoo ship build at all? It needs more funding to keep the work going, but it's going to make an awesome documentary when the work is finished.
Of this weeks detecting, what was the most surprising find for you? Personally, I thing that tiny owl stands out. I think that tiny little objest could tell some tales if it could talk. Having said that, the pocket watch was a great find too. Things like that will keep us guessing for a while, with questions like, how many generations held it before it was lost, was it owned by someone important, like a Mayor or something. But I can't leave out the tiny roman coin. It's no wonder so many of them turn up, very easy to lose.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Take care now. TTFN.

It’s always nice when the weather plays nice for us! So that’s where the red arrows went 🤣
Of course Time Team is a firm favourite always 🤓 nothing is forever but the finds we leave behind in the ground will leave generations guessing for centuries to come!
Our most surprising find has got to be the pocket watch you can really never tell when these are going to pop up and they would have had such an important meaning to the original owner 🤓
Of course the roman was a firm favourite too!
      Thanks Graham!

Isn't it incredible the little 'twins' coin survived? I'd think it would just disintegrate into the dirt. Thanks for the info on carrier pigeons, I appreciate you gals and your vids! :-)

It still amazes us that these artefacts can last so long in the ground 🙌 the fact they do makes them so much more special to uncover!

Ok,this is a silly thing to say,but to make you laugh.
You folks over there have the WIMPIEST spray bottles ever!!
Here in the USA,we got blasters, they will take an eye out!!
But that’s fine,if you want a delicate little spray,an ineffective mist,go for it!
    😂

    • @RomanFound
      @RomanFound  ปีที่แล้ว

The spray bottle certainly needs an upgrade! 🤣 need a mini power washer sometimes 🤓

I would be happy to send you some Umurrican style spray bottles, with a sharp single stream, very powerful.
Cheaply made,I could send half a dozen,as they do tend to wear out quickly.
Just let me know, you will be the envy of your fellow detectors!
