How to clean an Antminer S9 - Start to Finish

  • Often times used ASIC miners purchased from large-scale mining operations arrive crusted in dirt, dust and covered in grime. Heat sinks are clogged up and miners don't mine optimally. This is a demo of how I clean and Antminer S9 from inside out. And yes, I test them and not only do they run fine after this process, they hash at much better rates.

    You can clean it well enough if you just blow it with a compressor. If you want to go all the way, after blowing it, don't soak in isopropyl because that dilutes thermal paste and affects thermal pads as well, just grab a can of brake cleaner, put the board upright and spray it top to bottom. Don't add jelly to fans, use dashboard cleaner, it puts shine in the fans and keeps them shiny and with less dust for a longer time. Don't remove the sticker to service the fan if there's nothing wrong with it, WD-40 washes away the normal lubricant of the fan hub, a thicker stickier oil is preferable if you're really set on doing that sort of maintenance.

      what is a brake cleaner. is it some sort of compressed air. I suppose the miner had dust so shouldn't a compressed air be enough to clean it?

      There is no way I would use brake cleaner on any electronics. It is very volatile, carburetor cleaner maybe but not brake cleaner.

    I have found a helpful video that demonstrates how to clean those machines, but I'm also interested in learning about the maintenance aspects. Could you please recommend tutorials or resources where I can learn the basics of maintenance for mining equipment such as the Antminer, Avalon miner, or any other mining equipment?

    Menggunakan cairan apa untuk membersihkan hasboard?

  • @9dy8bobby
    @9dy8bobby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Don't soak your hashboards in isopropyl. Even if you dilute it, it's still a terrible idea. Better way to do this is to simply vaccuum off all the loose dust out of the back, blow compressed air between the heatsink grills.
    Isopropyl is ok as long as there's no chance for it to puddle up anywhere. You can hold your hashboard up vertically and pour a small amount of isopropyl across all the heatinks allowing it to drain into a bin below. Allow all the alcohol to drip off. Blow air in between the heatsinks with your mouth to make sure none is pooled up. Then immediately set the hashboard in front of a fan. If you want to do detail work, use q-tips and dip them in isopropyl

    I always had idea to put the whole board into isopropyl but i thought it'd harm it, now i'll do it thank you !

    • @gymkhanadog
      @gymkhanadog 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      91% or better isopropyl is 100% harmless to electronics so long as you _let it dry_ before powering things back up.

    вентилятор не разобрал + верхний подшипник оставил без масла :) кто купит такой асик, через неделю "обрадуется" перегреву из-за отказа вентилятора :) сюрприз не плохой и ещё из под чипов пыль вымывается не кисточкой, не полосканием в ванне, а струёй спирта под давлением 1-2 атм, но вам пофиг, чисто косметическая перед продажей асика!

    That really concerns me to see a miner in that condition. A serious fire risk and just pure disrespect towards the individual that worked hard to buy it and then trust a company to care for it. 😮
