    Causes of failure of capacitors are heat, high voltage, humidity, chemical contamination and moisture... a BLOWN Capacitor CAN still work It can affect other components, depending on the circuit and nature of the failure. They don't have to blow up, bulge or start leaking for this to happen. If you are lucky, the explosion forced the plates back apart and the Capacitor is now an open circuit. Yes, you can replace a capacitor with one of a slightly higher uF, but try to stay as close as possible to the original number and don't go lower. The most prudent way to ascertain a capacitor is not bad is to use a multi-meter with a capacitor measurement mode or to use an LCR meter. To ascertain the quality of the capacitor, ESR should also be measured.The quick and dirty way to test a capacitor with a multi-meter is to use the continuity mode and to place the probes across the leads of the capacitor. you should hear a beep and the beep should stop after some time. The higher the value of the capacitor, the longer the beep will be heard. This method works well with capacitor values in a few micro farads to milli-farads.

    hello on hashboard s9 the first 3 capacitor up when i see it is rising like ur video..the other 3 down all they say 0.04...when i take it out from the hashboard is working...if i put a new capacitor on their place when i see it it say again 0.04...what happent?

    I have now two Hashboard with the exact same problem. The same two capacitors are broken . Is it a weak spot from the Hashboard?

    If you hace 3 caps in parallel (like in both cases), and a single one is bad, all the rest will read bad. So the most reliable method to check them out is out of the board. And the S9 board has 2 caps replaced by liquid electrolyte caps, wich are not rated to be used in a such hot environment (the silver ones are solid electrolyte, not to mention the replaced ones are taller than the other, and the board won't fit into the case).

      Yes, agreed. You must test caps out of circuit for best results, just learned that resistors can be tested in circuit, but not caps

      @@CryptoMinerCHR That’s right. But, once again…you must take into account the resistor placement, and also another factors (another resistor(s) in parallel, or a diode shorted in parallel with a DUT; it will give you a false reading -shorted resistor, when in fact is the diode-, and so on…). Not to speak for the values, which will vary depending of the DUT placement. This is an addition to your video, for the right knowledge of the ones that will see it, not to get confused. Thanks!.

    What are the symptoms of the 2 bad caps

    • @CryptoMinerCHR
      @CryptoMinerCHR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very rarely is the problem the capacitors, but when it does voltage will not flow thru, and the cap is usually shorted, or something down the line

    Well, I tried to test the capacitors on 20 non-working asic boards and on like 6 or 7 working ones and they all show charging capacitors on those 3 capacitors that are laying horizontally to the board ( the ones that are working in this vid ) but they all also show around .060 on those two that are laying vertically to the board ( the ones that you say are not taking charge in this vid)
    So are you sure that those two are not supposed to be like that because all my boards show those two as .060, even the working ones.

      Yes, turned out to be something else, and was not the capacitors

    • @CryptoMinerCHR
      @CryptoMinerCHR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is rarely the capacitors that go bad, and usually is due to other underlying factors

    I have two hashboards that i have sent to two different people with a high HW rate of about 55000 in 12 hour span that cause a very high discard rate. This is what i got back from the last guy.... These boards are displaying something I’ve never seen. I’ve replaced the noisy chips on both and that didn’t fix it. That almost always fixes it. When that doesn’t work you replace the caps around this chips, did that as well and still nothing. I’m stumped..... I have looked at your site and you have reasonable prices. Is this something you have run across before?
