It has quite a bit more than just better graphics. Much improved enemy movesets, much better voice acting for James, completely reworked boss fights, much better combat in general
I'm so glad that we still have real people who have the ability for critical thinking, and don't praise the above average product to no end, and I think why people praise this game so much, it's because they are so desperate for a new silent hill game they accept anything, it doesn't matter if it's a worse copy of it with uglier characters, a dodge mechanic, terrible melee combat, downgraded ost and the game isn't even scary because of it. All of this doesn't matter because hey at least it's a new silent hill game. I can't believe some of these people have the right to vote.

What bothers me the most is how much people sucked it up. 1 hour into release people screaming ITS AMAZING ITS GREAT overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam etc. So what this means, is that these companies can just shovel out crap, and its going to sell well. It really bothers me how much the general publics taste is affecting the artistic quality of games. These are the Marvel movie watchers and such. Silent Hill is too high brow for the casual consumer. Though they will convince themselves they like something if they think its cool.

Most people are unfamiliar and dont understand silent hill 2s perspective and lore and didnt watch the behind the scene documentary, no research was done by these people who claim to be fans. What did you expect, the game was made in Unreal Engine 5, which is the worst engine ever, especially for consoles. There is no reflection in the mirror, in the puddle of water, not to mention the light, which looks like a disaster, especially when it comes from a flashlight. You can see the pixels, as well as in the clouds and objects, all the games that were made in Unreal Engine 5 and I played them look as if they were for PS4 Pro, even a regular PS4, how can there be pixels in the shadows of objects instead of being flat line shadow.
What really killed it for me is how many enemies there is, combat is not great, enemies literally hit me while i hitting them, bruh. Also they tried to do so many jump scares but why ? og had like 2 in entire game, its not scary when a monster jumps out of nowhere for 10th time in a row in a span of 15 minutes, thats exactly why i didnt want blooper to do this remake, they just dont understand what made og game such a good horror. I think graphics are really good i dont get why people are saying it looks like ps3 game are people blind ? but thats just about it, i just gave up after apartments. What pisses me the most is people actually praise this, which means we probably get more botched remakes from blooper. @@djeezy808 yeah, what i noticed is that hard mode ends up showing the combats flaws. Playing the remake om standard in combat but hard mode in puzzles is optimal. About the jumpscares, i don't mind them as long as the Actual horror is there. The dread, the feeling that something is off, the uncannyness and auditive uncomfortability. And personally i think it is. So the jumpscares was just a welcomed addition that never took away from the real horror imo
Jesus Christ bro. I beat the game yesterday. There was maybe 2 or 3 jump scares. Any other “jump scares” were just you not being aware of your surroundings. Also the combat is repetitive but it works perfectly fine. Hit hit dodge. It’s too scary and “too difficult” are not legitimate criticisms. Play with the lights on and play for like another hour and you’ll understand it lmao

With all this aside i came back to the game and i think in hospital and later the game gets way better but i still think there is way too much combat to the point its frustrating sometimes as you said it gets repetetive and in some cases it kills the atmosphere for me. Prison part is phenomenal imo, i was maybe too harsh on the game with the op, but my point still stands, too much combat in this game.
Remakes were never about making the games better or accessible (looking at you Horizon Zero Dawn). They're a way for the company to churn out another title for quick cash with lower risk given past audience. The things you mentioned would be captured if they cared but likely the modern devs are busy fulfilling modernized consultant feedback.

I could only stand a few minutes before droping it, it's so slow and the combat is awful. SH2 has the worst combat in the trilogy but they could've taken inspiration from SH3 instead of the most simplistic version of souls combat ever. The lack of fixed cameras is a massive sin too and the fog is really thin. All of that combined made the walk into Silent Hill so boring, it takes almost half an hour to get to the first enemy, by that time in the original you're in the apartments.

DEI Censorship ruined this game. They completly removed the Pyramid head rape scene in the apartment where James hid in the closest. Maria's original outfit was teased. She literally holds the Christina Aguilera inspired outfit and makes fun at us gamers. You don't have the option to wear her original. Angela's face and overall design is terrible. Maria's face is equally badly designed. Maria's face looked a lot better in the concept art. Overall I have lost all faith in this Remake.

@virtuousknight7756 I played the original many years ago. Replayed it right before remake to compare better. Played the remake and was amazed. Replayed the original for a better measure. And now I'm replaying the remake to see the new endings. It's not a perfect recreation of the original, sure. And some stuff is cut out, unfortunately. But a lot is also added and expanded upon. The first scene with pyramidhead is still there with all the ugly stuff. But it is also improved with better art direction, choreography, facial expressions, and camera angles. The same can be said in my opinion about the whole game. The first bossfight scene was censored, sure. And it's unfortunate. But I can't hate the game for it because if it wasn't censored, the game would risk getting an "adults only" label, which would affect the sales a lot and maybe even ruin the whole company Again, it's not a perfect remake. Perfect remakes don't exist. But I could easily compare this remake with re2 one. Hopefully, you don't find that remake disappointing, too?
Developers nowadays don't have the balls to re-make an original horror game with tank controls and fixed camera angles in an attempt to leave everything as it was before except for the graphical update.

I never played the original Silent Hill 2 but I played the remake and I didn't like it. I felt that the game was like a mediocre version of the Resident Evil remakes. The game was interesting at first, but it became boring and monotonous over time, and I just wanted to finish it by the end. This is one of those games that I would never play again in my entire life, and something tells me that if the Silent Hill 2 game from 2001 never existed and this very same game was released today with a different title, and with different characters names, the ratings would have been far more negative. This game was received "positively" because there was already a fan base and a nostalgic factor backing it up. But if it wasn't for that, things would have been very different. Also, I was expecting pyramid head thing to be a far scarier enemy that would chase me at multiple levels, but it was just a dumb boss fight and that's it. So disappointed. Not worth 80 or 70 dollars in my opinion.
I don't think they'll understand because in my opinion or memory so much before the mid 2010s itself was hazy and dreamlike if you lived it. Pre social media hysteria. The past is a foreign country. Hit detect listed in credits. They hired a youtuber essayist with a subjective take over the story, rather than the original writer. Enough said. 8:40 finally someone said it. James is a sturdy looking dude in the OG, and he has a guard/blocking mechanic as well. Being nimble and dodging doesn't make sense for his character, nor does it fit gameplay-wise.

The reason James wasn't so easy to control in the original has nothing to do with his character story. The gameplay mechanics just weren't developed that far yet- RE4 wouldn't revolutionize 3rd person horror gameplay until 2005, and SH2 came out in 2001. It's basically Konami's 2nd try, parallel universe version of SH1.

Glad someone agrees with my opinion. This is the perfect example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" There was no need for this remake to even exist. The original was perfect as it is. The remake has far too much lighting, not enough fog and just doesn't have the gloomy looking atmosphere the original silent hill 2 did imo. Remake just feels off in comparison imo.

You know what, i can really feel where you are coming from. When you bring up how it was effective with the games camera angles and how i notice just how much passion went into creating this story and world. What bloober did is basically just put a coat of rose colored glasses on and just bring out shiny and new. Plus, what exactly is bloober influenced by? They made layers of fear if i recal, i should really check it out at least before making a statement, but does anyone really rant and rav about that game. Silent Hill 2 really went dreamy with the whole story and atmosphere it built and developed. I did purchase the remake just to clarify, and while it has been nice, something just feels off, and i can't tell if my life just mimics the South Park episode of everything is shit or things are more cookie cutter then ever before.
It's as you and snake said, despite what Masahiro Ito and classic Silent Hill 2's director's will claim, and the former actually bragged about the latter "liking" this demake, like it's supposed to mean or "prove" anything, which it doesn't. But as you can see, even the creators of the classic and ONLY Silent Hill 2 don't know what they're talking about. It's the same thing with the demake of Dead Space, which its' director "likes", but again it doesn't mean anything. Stanley Kubrick, for example, didn't wish to point to one single interpretation of his films' stories being "correct", because art is subjective and even the painter or storyteller's view isn't the "end all, be all", and it would defeat the purpose of art. As far as objectivity goes, this demake is NOWHERE near the level of Silent Hill 2. Any true fans would know this.
I wish they would just make original survival horror titles instead of just regurgitating what has come before. Poor SH2 was too good for its own good. Let its corpse rest in peace.
Indies have us covered with Signalis, Crow Country, Hollow Body. And at a bargain price. The loss in atmosphere, symbolism and the lack of fog and feeling lost and overall darkness and blindness and the changes in characters from voice to how they react and even appearance is off-putting. But you have to have played the OG to feel this way. Newcomers won't even realize it if this is their first SH game which IMO has been a dead franchise since 3 and arguably 4. I think the game at a glance is great but it doesn't possess a soul and that's what brings it down when compared to the original. The compare contrast between the old and the new just illustrates how much was lost or distorted and it completely changes the perspective and meaning on what is meant to be conveyed. Sad to see.
I think you all need to look up remake vs HD upgrade. This is a remake. A reimagining of silent hill 2. If you wanted to play the same game then go play the original or hd collection.

The only person that has actually been able to put my thoughts into words in my opinion they have completely butchered it with this remake and it’s sad in a way as this will be the only way some people experience the game as a lot of people will not go back to the ps2 version to experience it in it’s true form.
Great video. In my opinion, you are not harsh enough. This remake is complete garbage. I hate the "looting" part of the game where you have to search drawers and closets to find health drinks or ammunitions. I hate the glowing red around the screen when you are low on health. I hate that the game is artificially longer because of the looting part and through shitty quests like getting a broken vynil, a missing jukebox button and a coin.

Like clockwork, the shill media joined together to sing the praises of another remake for the modern audience,. Weird a lot of people took issue with Silent Hill Homecoming but have no issues with SH 2 remake, when Homecoming was a sequel in the series, where as SH 2 remake should be remaining faithful to the original as possible, but decided to be a RE 2 remake knock off with fugly faces, censorship, lack of subtlety, and not understanding the atmosphere.

The novel gives more details and insight into Eli's backstory, especially highlighting what 'she' meant when 'she' said to Oskar, "I'm not a girl" . This was done to further emphasize Eli's androgynous nature, and what exactly 'she' is.
Nah, you're wrong about this one. I do see some people having some gripe, but the majority of people seem to be fine with this remake. You can literally look around the comment section of channels like Shirrako to determine people's opinions on the game, and for the most part, they think it's decent. Not a replacement, but a decent remake.

I get where your coming from I hate this silent hill 2 remake and Alan wake 2, but the resident evil 4 remake is phenomenal. Almost all the re remakes and 7 and 8 are also great. It’s the same studio that made the originals I believe, and I promise you they respect the originals. Re4r is imo identical in terms of characters, character design, tone, atmosphere, dialogue, literally everything is 1:1 but just better graphics. And the gameplay and fighting is just fucking awesome. Leon is just as much of a Chad as he was in the original, he hasn’t been watered down for modern audiences.

Truee, I've always said that art design is big in a game. For example secret of mana had its own look. Based on character design, colour palette, brightness/darkness etc. The remasters and remakes of it, should have captured that spirit but didn't. The same goes for silent hill 2. Tango games would have understood the assignment.

You could argue re1 remake is better than the original but the original re1 still has its place and shouldn't be discarded just because the remake exists. There are some things I think the original did better, like having more interesting voice acting or the first floor hallway where the dogs jump through the window. In the remake the dogs don't jump through on the first go around and only do it if you go through the hallway a second time (in the same direction, reverse direction doesn't activate it). During my other playthroughs of the remake I don't even activate that sequence. That scene in the original was actually tense because it's during the beginning and you weren't prepared for it (and have no way of avoiding it)
I definitely agree with you dude. I was saying the same shiet many of the scenes are completely different and don't draw me in whatsoever. The dream-like environment is completely missing in favor of clean shaven shiny graphics. I said it before and I'll say it again whoever was the director for the cutscene is a complete failure of a director. You only had 1 fukkin job, copy the damn original and tune it with updated graphics that's it. Mary remake is ugly af with a big freakin Attack on Titan head. Her face and jaw line are grotesque and Angela remake is hideous compared to the original. I won't spoil it but for those that already know why I am saying this part Mary remake does not exude sexiness at all compared to the original Mary. Just look at the first meeting comparison it's very obvious whose full of life and whose stale. James remake model gets a pass for me but is still a failure on how they handled it for example in the first meeting with Pyramid Head remake James has no expression while the original he's scared af. Also, making it more focus on fighting is a complete failure on them as this is suppose to also be survival horror not action. I definitely agree the dodge mechanic shouldn't be there. Why can't these remake director and producers just copy the mf original first then tweak it if they can improve upon it. I can't stand how they try to build on top of another established foundation with their own interpretation that nobody asked for. In the end, just as VenomSnack said people are gonna eat this slop up and they definitely are doing just that. I also recommend playing the original Silent Hill 2 first in any fashion that you can even if you have to sail the seas if it's your first time. Then comeback to play this game so you can maybe see our perspective on why the remake is inferior to the original in everyway except graphics.
I agree Angela is foul. Actually David duchovny. Maria's face looks fine to me but I hate how they gave her the woke pink hair tattoo treatment. The voice acting across the board is inferior to original and they've ruined the original atmosphere just like RE4 remake. Most of the creepy ambient sounds are gone. There's less music in game. The lack of fixed camera angles removes creepiness too. Also pyramid head scene censored. It's just awful and it's so frustrating that all these normies don't have the critical thinking to understand this. They can't appreciate symbolism and subtlety and characterisation. Its a DE-Make like RE4R. Its its own thing while still having elements from the original. The campy RE4 and one liners take off the tension from the horror, which is all gone in RE4R its just too serious while having changed elements didn't really hit. Its the same with Silent Hill 2 remake.

Your take on this game gives "I don't want a remake only a remaster" because the small differences(camera angles,lighting, etc) you point out can be easily overlooked and the melancholic, ambient, mysterious, hopelessness atmosphere of Silent Hill 2 is still there just not captured in the same exact way as the OG. But ofc as expected its a remake not a remaster. The criticism on this reminds me of Re4 remake and how in certain aspects it was different then the original(dialogue, enemies, scenes, etc). It was different but for the worse? I think not. The OG and Remake are gems in there own right. I just think comparing OGs with Remakes over small changes when it is a given is ignorant. Only thing I could even be disappointed in this game is only Maria's model design. They couldve captured her alluring seductive presence better in the remake for reasons(no spoiler) like they did in the OG because imo its important to the story. Other then that it's a good game overall.
I have no idea if those of us who think this are in the minority, but the truth is that the remake is not SH at all, it is an attempt at REmakes. I have also said many of the things you said in the video, but many people treated me like crazy. For me the game is a mix of callitsto protocol, REmakes and SH Homecoming. I would like to think that we are not a minority so that the other games in the series do not suffer the same fate.

You can completely deactivate al HUD elements, they prompt you this option directly in your face before you start a New Game, but again, I wouldn't count someone who hasn't touch the Remake to understand this. And secondly, I never got lost in the original, I always had a sense of where to go, you just have bad orientation a suppose, cause in the OG even James highlights you where yo need to go sometimes. I love how SH fans HAAAAAAATED homecoming with a passion, said the combat was the WORST in the series. Yet are foaming at the mouth about how "good" this games combat is and how much of an "improvement" it was over the OG. The player AND the enemies both LITERALLY magnetize towards one another in melee combat, and the dodge mechanic was as poorly implemented like homecoming's was. But hey, it's got pretty graphics, so let's ignore all of the games issues because.........pretty graphics!

Yes there is. Below is spoil territory for those new. The scene with the man on the couch watching tv full of blood coming from his face on down to the floor now has a towel over his face blood stained. Another is the simulated sex scene when meeting Pyramid Head for the first time was censored. They also changed how that scene starts too. That's 2 of many more.
This remake has been toned down in any nuance right down to the character design desicions. The old char designer Ito was asked to put more cloth onto the nurses as they showed too much skin in the original. The only thing they didn't make halt from was making the fat char more fat and disgusting looking, because that was a safe thing to do.
If you like the RE4R , you'll like this. If you don't like RE4R, congratulations, you enjoy art and probably won't like SH2R. Resident evil 4 remake fans are the worst, so they'll probably enjoy the sloppa from this one. Think about it. Resident evil 4 doesn't play like RE4R. RE4R plays like TLOU2 with its "MODERNIZED CONTROLS" and thats what SH2R plays like. It's not a stop and shoot tank shooter, its a chop till they drop action game now. The remake unnecessarily reworked A LOT of the subtle and glaringly obvious motifs the original portrayed. The very first scene where the player character is introduced to pyramid head heavily disappointed me, and happened to give a taste of what the rest of the game would be like. When you're first introduced to Pyramid head in the remake, you can't even tell what the hell is going on, as they purposely blanketed him in a veil of shadows and off centered camera shots. And in the boss fight later on, he's just standing in a room, waiting for the player to trigger the cutscene. Just standing in the dark, waiting for his cue. In the OG, the scene deliberately points the camera on pyramid head assaulting some mannequins violently, immediately setting the tone for how horrifying and monstrous the villain is. Later on, the boss fight crams you in a claustrophobic room with him right after he's done assaulting yet another npc, heightening the fear and anxiety you felt from encountering him before, now that he's put within reach of you The literal point of blasting him for all to see in the og is to highlight his sick and monstrous behavior, as it reflects James' psychological manifestation of his thoughts and feelings. It is to scare and sicken the player, to fine tune the degree of anxiety one carries throughout the game. I had really hoped that this remake would thematically stay closer to the original, but it just seems so watered down, like they didn't want it to be as crude and grimy to upset audiences. But thats the thing that make the og a classic. It plucked at the strings of your emotions with its dreary, grim and upsetting environment/characters.

James was so horrified, he fled to the closet, the way a child would when watching his parents fighting, or the dad doing whatever to the mom, a scene that was heavily inspired by that infamous scene in Blue Velvet. The demake lacks that, and so much more.

Glad I watched it for free, now with how disappointed I am. And pyramid head showing up behind the bars may be the first in-game encounter, but it is not the first SCENE with him that sets the TONE and MOTIF for the remainder of the story. And that's just pyramid head. I haven't even brought up James, Maria or Angela, who took a different approach to their line delivery. Little things that make a big difference when you compare the two. The only thing I considered a win was Eddie's storyline, it really came together wonderfully compared to everything else in the remake. There's a whole reason the original is considered a classic, every little thing was taken into consideration to affect us emotionally and psychologically, and leave a lasting impression. Its an interactive horror-suspense story. The remake just falls short compared to the og.
It's ok on it's own as a game, but yeah the cutscenes when put in direct comparison just suck, they're just way too normie, the original was eerie and unsettling, the remake completely loses that. Played the remake, loved it. Never played the original. These remakes are to let people who dont like the gameplay style of the OG to experience the story / atmosphere in a gameplay style that they enjoy more. I understand this shift may lead to changes in the effectiveness of the horror in certain sections. Pyramid Head chase being the obvious. Regardless the game is still effective by itself, the main crisisms come from coparing it to the original. SH2 OG was genius, remakes do not have to reach the heights of a masterpiece but simply respect the source material. I would compare to a tribute band, they arent as good but when the only other version of the song is low fi audio quality, the tribute band serves a purpose even tho not as genius as the original artist
Well, it's happening again, when Homecoming was announced you got people saying "The Combat was always shitty!" and when the HD Collection was showing the new voices you got "fans" saying "The Voices were always bad!". It's now becoming apparent with reviews on Steam that "Silent Hill 2 Fans" who are finally playing their favorite game for the first time are more distracted with the Unreal Engine graphics, the combat that overshadows everything, and the "great voice acting".
More like I played the original and I love the new take on the game I've played many times, especially when they improved on cutscenes that were never actual cutscenes in the original(the endings). They even added new never before seen cutscenes that showed more of what the character's were supposed to give in the original. As far as the combat being shitty, it's certainly better than what I've seen from other silent hill games, and me personally, it's nothing like homecoming's combat system. I don't know what version of silent hill 2 you dreamed up in your head, but I'm imagining it's just another hd remaster if i were to base it solely on the complaints people have made about the remake.

You said it well: "Being desperate for something to be great" is a strange phenomenon. I wouldn't mind it, if it wouldn't touch, alter and often butcher already existing pieces of art. I wouldn't ever care about people worshiping Marvel movies, but remakes are different, because they surf on their former glory as an empty shell of technological and accessibility marvel, in a way that for me desecrates the spirit of the originals, especially for this one.

Just today I was trying to complete a puzzle in OG Silent Hill 2, and was trying to search up a solution for the puzzle when all I was ever shown in the search results are these "remakes" so it's such a travesty that the newer generations will only ever know of these franchises through the inferior remakes instead of the original games.

Completely disagree with most of the criticisms. A remake doesn't negate the need for or appreciation of the original, and taking a new spin on presentation often pays off when the original reason for the visual and interface design language was the direct result of existing limitations and trends. Every generation of game genres goes through this, and having a new, fresher take on a classic does nothing to diminish a franchise if it is well received, which this game is. Objectively, this game does not suck ass. It's perfectly fine if you do not like it, but you don't need to justify your preference for the original to anyone.

This simply isn't true. Horror games do sell quite well, but they have a more niche audience, and RE has a much bigger audience than Silent Hill ever will, despite having roughly an equal percentage of market failures. The truth is that even if SH2 remake sells well, it will not likely compete with Dead Space remake or RE4 remake, as those titles were highly anticipated for years and have a much bigger fan base, while SH2 remake generally wasn't well received during the post production stage of marketing and was announced after years of rumors and bad press from Konami. If SH2 makes a huge profit initially it will be a miracle, but that has nothing to do with how good the game is. 🤷
I was gonna wait anyway as I don’t have a ps5 and probably won’t get one until the 2030’s anyway since I just got a ps4. We’ll put with the whole thing. The original silent hill 2 is a masterpiece, and it’s one of those games this I couldn’t imagine benefitting from a remake treatment. All said and down, they need to work towards making new games instead of remaking old ones; so many games they’re choosing to remake were good for a reason: they were fresh and offered something worth playing.

It was very obvious from the trailers this was Konami's resident evil right down to james fighting like an action hero (which of course reddit shills defended cause why not they get another re remake look alike) but the problem is that enemies in sh2 or any of the 3 shs are scaled around normal people who fight and shoot like sh**, if you put re camera and gameplay in a sh game but don't scale the enemies then you're pretty much beating up disabled people, and not in a fun away.

I totally agree with you, they also cutted away one of the two main themes from the original game. The main themes were Eros and Thanatos (Sex and Death). I'll leave it up to you to answer which of the two they cut.

This DEMAKE kinda feels very reminiscent of SH: Homecoming with the DODGE thingy, & by focusing so much on action, combat & shooting by putting several enemies in the level, but with 0TS, & like SH: Homecoming in which ALEX was actually a patient which recently escaped from an asylum, who hallucinated about being a SOLDIER because that was his dream which he could never achieve after having killed his younger brother, JAMES{like ALEX} isn't a soldier or ex-soldier either, that is, he isn't 't a person who is highly trained in self-defense with melee or guns.

I´ve played and own the first 4 SH games(and love them). And I like the SH2 Remake. Is it great as the OG? No. But it´s a pretty good psychological horror game. DEI games to me are like TLOU 2, Dustborn, Concord and crap like that. SH2 Remake is nowhere close to that level. I played the original silent hill to remake. I actually have the disc copy on PS3. I actually prefer the remake over the original at the moment. The combat feels more fluid and it’s actually scary. The atmosphere feels great especially when you’re in the fog roaming through the town the first time. It was the first time I felt uneasy in a game. The New voice sounds way better than the original voice. It sounds smooth and silky like it was meant to be. James design is also a really good factor to the game and the cutscenes are really interesting to watch. You are a fake fan. You probably haven’t even played the new silent Hill and is dogging on it 💀 how about you stop complaining and start playing and make your own opinion not follow someone else. Be a leader, not a follower.
I played the original in 2001, not as a kid, but as a 21y-old adult. I still have it. I also have every single SH published on a console. Even the hd remasters. So, I can say without any child nostalgia than this remake is amazing at it's the best SH since SH4. The remake is respectful and self aware of its roots. It's not perfect, but it does a very good job, and most important, dignifies the original and dignifies itself.
So glad to see someone saying, toss this in the bin for something other than Jacob Geller’s garbage consulting group Hit Detection. Perhaps they knowingly hired him in order to have plausible deniability for the massive of a product they were creating.
Blinded by nostalgia. The draw distance isn't that far, it just at the beginning. The more you go into Silent Hill, the more thick is the fog. Personally, I think this improves the mistery, building it up till you reach the town, feeling you are trespassing a veil you can't see. Saying that facial animations are better in the ps2 it's just bananas. The remake it's not top notch, but what you are saying it's based in nostalgia. Just James eyes have a lot of subtlety in the animations that on ps2 just wasn't possible. Combatwise? It feels more action but the fight are around the same quantity (even tho I'm fighting less honestly, resources are a bit inferior). During my first run in the original I killed a ton shit of enemies and I actively engaged with them so I could explore places more freely, and many do the same. That way, you cant stock a lot of ammo and heals too. The pyramid head "boss fight" it's pathetic today, It's not that better in the remake but the glaze it's insane. I can get you don't like the new designs, but I don't think they take away from the meaning behind. Maria has a couple of cutscenes that emphasize even more what her character its supposed to be. But well, that's preference. The "diversity" in the opening shot doesn't change the equation in the game. On first impact, what it must convey its that James looks basically dead inside, both achieve that. I think you are just extremely hard and nitpicky, based on your giant love of the original.

I never nearly fell asleep during a game, but this Silent Hill 2 Remake made me falls asleep, nearly, twice. It is really really boring. Nothing is frightening. It is just boring as hell
SH 2 remake doesn't know subtlety: - Several scenes were made more explicit so people could understand them. I.e. the water ending, where he looks to the backseat at least three times to make sure we understand Mary is laying there. - The camera the work in the scenes doesn't have any personality. I didn't like when they zoomed in on Mary's letter during the water ending, it looked so cheap, like a soap opera. - the general tone was watered down. - They made James a Resident Evil 4 character. Not even in RE2 remake there is an option to dodge. James is just a regular civilian. - Some bosses are too dramatic, instead of raw (like the small room for abstract daddy) - There is too much lighting everywhere. It should be darker. I would say it's an okay game, but it's not a Silent Hill. The Devs simply didn't understand or wanted to understand the original.
My main issue with this game is the length and enemies the game literally has about 5 regular enemies not counting the bosses and the game is like 18 hours long or more so by the time you killed the100th nurse you just want it to end already 😮
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so to each their own. With that said here is mine. Remake is a fantastic game. What so many fail to understand is, it's not meant to replace the OG, just a remake of a fantastic game. We have both now, and no one can stop you from playing the original. We don't need a remake that directly mimics the OG. Saying the OG pyramid head fight is more memorable is laughable. You can certainly like it more, but PH swinging at nothing and missing, with James and him looking like two robot AIs trying to figure out what is going on isn't scary or memorable. The main issue with people disliking this game is you're all at an age where in 2001 you were either not born yet or young enough where this game left a strong impression. That doesn't mean it is better, but rather you place this game on a pedestal. I loved this game in 2001 and this remake made me remember again how much I enjoy Silent Hill 2 in general. Being able to dodge an attack is fun. The mechanics are simply more fun than that of the OG. That is perfectly okay in this game to allow it to be fun to play. They both have wicked atmospheres and if you prefer OG, that makes a lot of sense. Not a zero sum game here ya'll.

Sh2 was about atmosphere and the story, hardly anyone remembers it for the gameplay. The remake is meant to replace it because as of right now young people can't play the original on modern consoles.
What really did it for me was the unnecessarily long and complicated puzzles and the annoying combat. Fighting monsters still sucks and the game treats it like it's the best thing ever. Then they get you running around from room to room, looking for bits and pieces to a puzzle that used to be solved on the fly. It's full of unnecessary fluff. And the lack of enemy variants just makes the game more repetitive.
The "remake" does not have the surreal feeling of the cult classic original. Hell, it's not even scary:

What bothers me the most is how much people sucked it up. 1 hour into release people screaming ITS AMAZING ITS GREAT overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam etc. So what this means, is that these companies can just shovel out crap, and its going to sell well. It really bothers me how much the general publics taste is affecting the artistic quality of games. These are the Marvel movie watchers and such. Silent Hill is too high brow for the casual consumer. Though they will convince themselves they like something if they think its cool.

What did you expect, the game was made in Unreal Engine 5, which is the worst engine ever, especially for consoles. There is no reflection in the mirror, in the puddle of water, not to mention the light, which looks like a disaster, especially when it comes from a flashlight. You can see the pixels, as well as in the clouds and objects, all the games that were made in Unreal Engine 5 and I played them look as if they were for PS4 Pro, even a regular PS4, how can there be pixels in the shadows of objects instead of being flat line shadow.

What really killed it for me is how many enemies there is, combat is not great, enemies literally hit me while i hitting them, bruh. Also they tried to do so many jump scares but why ? og had like 2 in entire game, its not scary when a monster jumps out of nowhere for 10th time in a row in a span of 15 minutes, thats exactly why i didnt want blooper to do this remake, they just dont understand what made og game such a good horror. I think graphics are really good i dont get why people are saying it looks like ps3 game are people blind ? but thats just about it, i just gave up after apartments. What pisses me the most is people actually praise this, which means we probably get more botched remakes from blooper. About the jumpscares, i don't mind them as long as the Actual horror is there. The dread, the feeling that something is off, the uncannyness and auditive uncomfortability. And personally i think it is. So the jumpscares was just a welcomed addition that never took away from the real horror imo

Jesus Christ bro. I beat the game yesterday. There was maybe 2 or 3 jump scares. Any other “jump scares” were just you not being aware of your surroundings. Also the combat is repetitive but it works perfectly fine. Hit hit dodge. It’s too scary and “too difficult” are not legitimate criticisms. Play with the lights on and play for like another hour and you’ll understand it lmao

With all this aside i came back to the game and i think in hospital and later the game gets way better but i still think there is way too much combat to the point its frustrating sometimes as you said it gets repetetive and in some cases it kills the atmosphere for me. Prison part is phenomenal imo, i was maybe too harsh on the game with the op, but my point still stands, too much combat in this game.
Remakes were never about making the games better or accessible (looking at you Horizon Zero Dawn).
They're a way for the company to churn out another title for quick cash with lower risk given past audience.
The things you mentioned would be captured if they cared but likely the modern devs are busy fulfilling modernized consultant feedback.

I could only stand a few minutes before droping it, it's so slow and the combat is awful. SH2 has the worst combat in the trilogy but they could've taken inspiration from SH3 instead of the most simplistic version of souls combat ever.
The lack of fixed cameras is a massive sin too and the fog is really thin. All of that combined made the walk into Silent Hill so boring, it takes almost half an hour to get to the first enemy, by that time in the original you're in the apartments.

DEI Censorship ruined this game. They completly removed the Pyramid head rape scene in the apartment where James hid in the closest. Maria's original outfit was teased. She literally holds the Christina Aguilera inspired outfit and makes fun at us gamers. You don't have the option to wear her original. Angela's face and overall design is terrible. Maria's face is equally badly designed. Maria's face looked a lot better in the concept art. Overall I have lost all faith in this Remake.

@virtuousknight7756 I played the original many years ago. Replayed it right before remake to compare better. Played the remake and was amazed. Replayed the original for a better measure. And now I'm replaying the remake to see the new endings. It's not a perfect recreation of the original, sure. And some stuff is cut out, unfortunately. But a lot is also added and expanded upon. The first scene with pyramidhead is still there with all the ugly stuff. But it is also improved with better art direction, choreography, facial expressions, and camera angles. The same can be said in my opinion about the whole game. The first bossfight scene was censored, sure. And it's unfortunate. But I can't hate the game for it because if it wasn't censored, the game would risk getting an "adults only" label, which would affect the sales a lot and maybe even ruin the whole company
Again, it's not a perfect remake. Perfect remakes don't exist. But I could easily compare this remake with re2 one. Hopefully, you don't find that remake disappointing, too?

I never played the original Silent Hill 2 but I played the remake and I didn't like it.
I felt that the game was like a mediocre version of the Resident Evil remakes.
The game was interesting at first, but it became boring and monotonous over time, and I just wanted to finish it by the end.
This is one of those games that I would never play again in my entire life, and something tells me that if the Silent Hill 2 game from 2001 never existed and this very same game was released today with a different title, and with different characters names, the ratings would have been far more negative.
This game was received "positively" because there was already a fan base and a nostalgic factor backing it up. But if it wasn't for that, things would have been very different.
Also, I was expecting pyramid head thing to be a far scarier enemy that would chase me at multiple levels, but it was just a dumb boss fight and that's it. So disappointed.

8:40 finally someone said it. James is a sturdy looking dude in the OG, and he has a guard/blocking mechanic as well. Being nimble and dodging doesn't make sense for his character, nor does it fit gameplay-wise.

The reason James wasn't so easy to control in the original has nothing to do with his character story. The gameplay mechanics just weren't developed that far yet- RE4 wouldn't revolutionize 3rd person horror gameplay until 2005, and SH2 came out in 2001. It's basically Konami's 2nd try, parallel universe version of SH1.

Glad someone agrees with my opinion. This is the perfect example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" There was no need for this remake to even exist. The original was perfect as it is. The remake has far too much lighting, not enough fog and just doesn't have the gloomy looking atmosphere the original silent hill 2 did imo. Remake just feels off in comparison imo.

You know what, i can really feel where you are coming from. When you bring up how it was effective with the games camera angles and how i notice just how much passion went into creating this story and world. What bloober did is basically just put a coat of rose colored glasses on and just bring out shiny and new. Plus, what exactly is bloober influenced by? They made layers of fear if i recal, i should really check it out at least before making a statement, but does anyone really rant and rav about that game. Silent Hill 2 really went dreamy with the whole story and atmosphere it built and developed. I did purchase the remake just to clarify, and while it has been nice, something just feels off, and i can't tell if my life just mimics the South Park episode of everything is shit or things are more cookie cutter then ever before.
It's as you and snake said, despite what Masahiro Ito and classic Silent Hill 2's director's will claim, and the former actually bragged about the latter "liking" this demake, like it's supposed to mean or "prove" anything, which it doesn't. But as you can see, even the creators of the classic and ONLY Silent Hill 2 don't know what they're talking about. It's the same thing with the demake of Dead Space, which its' director "likes", but again it doesn't mean anything. Stanley Kubrick, for example, didn't wish to point to one single interpretation of his films' stories being "correct", because art is subjective and even the painter or storyteller's view isn't the "end all, be all", and it would defeat the purpose of art. As far as objectivity goes, this demake is NOWHERE near the level of Silent Hill 2. Any true fans would know this.
I wish they would just make original survival horror titles instead of just regurgitating what has come before. Poor SH2 was too good for its own good. Let its corpse rest in peace.
Indies have us covered with Signalis, Crow Country, Hollow Body. And at a bargain price. The loss in atmosphere, symbolism and the lack of fog and feeling lost and overall darkness and blindness and the changes in characters from voice to how they react and even appearance is off-putting. But you have to have played the OG to feel this way. Newcomers won't even realize it if this is their first SH game which IMO has been a dead franchise since 3 and arguably 4.
I think the game at a glance is great but it doesn't possess a soul and that's what brings it down when compared to the original.
The compare contrast between the old and the new just illustrates how much was lost or distorted and it completely changes the perspective and meaning on what is meant to be conveyed. Sad to see.

The only person that has actually been able to put my thoughts into words in my opinion they have completely butchered it with this remake and it’s sad in a way as this will be the only way some people experience the game as a lot of people will not go back to the ps2 version to experience it in it’s true form.
Great video. In my opinion, you are not harsh enough. This remake is complete garbage. I hate the "looting" part of the game where you have to search drawers and closets to find health drinks or ammunitions. I hate the glowing red around the screen when you are low on health. I hate that the game is artificially longer because of the looting part and through shitty quests like getting a broken vynil, a missing jukebox button and a coin.

Man this game, it really put into perspective why i never replayed the re4 remake, it just feels toor realistic and too action oriented, what the hell happened to just games telling a creepy visual story with messages thrown in the ground without enemies in every corner? I get where your coming from I hate this silent hill 2 remake and Alan wake 2, but the resident evil 4 remake is phenomenal. Almost all the re remakes and 7 and 8 are also great.
It’s the same studio that made the originals I believe, and I promise you they respect the originals. Re4r is imo identical in terms of characters, character design, tone, atmosphere, dialogue, literally everything is 1:1 but just better graphics. And the gameplay and fighting is just fucking awesome. Leon is just as much of a Chad as he was in the original, he hasn’t been watered down for modern audiences.

Truee, I've always said that art design is big in a game. For example secret of mana had its own look. Based on character design, colour palette, brightness/darkness etc. The remasters and remakes of it, should have captured that spirit but didn't. The same goes for silent hill 2. Tango games would have understood the assignment.

You could argue re1 remake is better than the original but the original re1 still has its place and shouldn't be discarded just because the remake exists. There are some things I think the original did better, like having more interesting voice acting or the first floor hallway where the dogs jump through the window. In the remake the dogs don't jump through on the first go around and only do it if you go through the hallway a second time (in the same direction, reverse direction doesn't activate it). During my other playthroughs of the remake I don't even activate that sequence. That scene in the original was actually tense because it's during the beginning and you weren't prepared for it (and have no way of avoiding it)

I definitely agree with you dude. I was saying the same shiet many of the scenes are completely different and don't draw me in whatsoever. The dream-like environment is completely missing in favor of clean shaven shiny graphics. I said it before and I'll say it again whoever was the director for the cutscene is a complete failure of a director. You only had 1 fukkin job, copy the damn original and tune it with updated graphics that's it. Mary remake is ugly af with a big freakin Attack on Titan head. Her face and jaw line are grotesque and Angela remake is hideous compared to the original.
I won't spoil it but for those that already know why I am saying this part Mary remake does not exude sexiness at all compared to the original Mary. Just look at the first meeting comparison it's very obvious whose full of life and whose stale. James remake model gets a pass for me but is still a failure on how they handled it for example in the first meeting with Pyramid Head remake James has no expression while the original he's scared af. Also, making it more focus on fighting is a complete failure on them as this is suppose to also be survival horror not action. I definitely agree the dodge mechanic shouldn't be there.
Why can't these remake director and producers just copy the mf original first then tweak it if they can improve upon it. I can't stand how they try to build on top of another established foundation with their own interpretation that nobody asked for. In the end, just as VenomSnack said people are gonna eat this slop up and they definitely are doing just that. I also recommend playing the original Silent Hill 2 first in any fashion that you can even if you have to sail the seas if it's your first time. I agree Angela is foul. Actually David duchovny. Maria's face looks fine to me but I hate how they gave her the woke pink hair tattoo treatment. The voice acting across the board is inferior to original and they've ruined the original atmosphere just like RE4 remake. Most of the creepy ambient sounds are gone. There's less music in game. The lack of fixed camera angles removes creepiness too. Also pyramid head scene censored. Its a DE-Make like RE4R. Its its own thing while still having elements from the original. The campy RE4 and one liners take off the tension from the horror, which is all gone in RE4R its just too serious while having changed elements didn't really hit. Its the same with Silent Hill 2 remake.

Your take on this game gives "I don't want a remake only a remaster" because the small differences(camera angles,lighting, etc) you point out can be easily overlooked and the melancholic, ambient, mysterious, hopelessness atmosphere of Silent Hill 2 is still there just not captured in the same exact way as the OG. But ofc as expected its a remake not a remaster. The criticism on this reminds me of Re4 remake and how in certain aspects it was different then the original(dialogue, enemies, scenes, etc). It was different but for the worse? I think not. The OG and Remake are gems in there own right. I just think comparing OGs with Remakes over small changes when it is a given is ignorant. Only thing I could even be disappointed in this game is only Maria's model design. They couldve captured her alluring seductive presence better in the remake for reasons(no spoiler) like they did in the OG because imo its important to the story. Other then that it's a good game overall.

I have no idea if those of us who think this are in the minority, but the truth is that the remake is not SH at all, it is an attempt at REmakes. I have also said many of the things you said in the video, but many people treated me like crazy. For me the game is a mix of callitsto protocol, REmakes and SH Homecoming. I would like to think that we are not a minority so that the other games in the series do not suffer the same fate.

I love how SH fans HAAAAAAATED homecoming with a passion, said the combat was the WORST in the series. Yet are foaming at the mouth about how "good" this games combat is and how much of an "improvement" it was over the OG. The player AND the enemies both LITERALLY magnetize towards one another in melee combat, and the dodge mechanic was as poorly implemented like homecoming's was. This remake has been toned down in any nuance right down to the character design desicions. The old char designer Ito was asked to put more cloth onto the nurses as they showed too much skin in the original. The only thing they didn't make halt from was making the fat char more fat and disgusting looking, because that was a safe thing to do.

The remake unnecessarily reworked A LOT of the subtle and glaringly obvious motifs the original portrayed.
The very first scene where the player character is introduced to pyramid head heavily disappointed me, and happened to give a taste of what the rest of the game would be like.
When you're first introduced to Pyramid head in the remake, you can't even tell what the hell is going on, as they purposely blanketed him in a veil of shadows and off centered camera shots. And in the boss fight later on, he's just standing in a room, waiting for the player to trigger the cutscene. Just standing in the dark, waiting for his cue.
In the OG, the scene deliberately points the camera on pyramid head assaulting some mannequins violently, immediately setting the tone for how horrifying and monstrous the villain is. Later on, the boss fight crams you in a claustrophobic room with him right after he's done assaulting yet another npc, heightening the fear and anxiety you felt from encountering him before, now that he's put within reach of you
The literal point of blasting him for all to see in the og is to highlight his sick and monstrous behavior, as it reflects James' psychological manifestation of his thoughts and feelings. It is to scare and sicken the player, to fine tune the degree of anxiety one carries throughout the game.
I had really hoped that this remake would thematically stay closer to the original, but it just seems so watered down, like they didn't want it to be as crude and grimy to upset audiences. But thats the thing that make the og a classic. It plucked at the strings of your emotions with its dreary, grim and upsetting environment/characters.

@@vladik87 It's nothing like the classic, where it's not just the behind the bars, radio, and entire vibe that made the whole thing discomforting, but the stuff he did to the mannequins. James was so horrified, he fled to the closet, the way a child would when watching his parents fighting, or the dad doing whatever to the mom, a scene that was heavily inspired by that infamous scene in Blue Velvet. The demake lacks that, and so much more.

And pyramid head showing up behind the bars may be the first in-game encounter, but it is not the first SCENE with him that sets the TONE and MOTIF for the remainder of the story. And that's just pyramid head. I haven't even brought up James, Maria or Angela, who took a different approach to their line delivery. Little things that make a big difference when you compare the two.
The only thing I considered a win was Eddie's storyline, it really came together wonderfully compared to everything else in the remake.
There's a whole reason the original is considered a classic, every little thing was taken into consideration to affect us emotionally and psychologically, and leave a lasting impression. Its an interactive horror-suspense story. The remake just falls short compared to the og.
It's ok on it's own as a game, but yeah the cutscenes when put in direct comparison just suck, they're just way too normie, the original was eerie and unsettling, the remake completely loses that. I think the remake benefited a lot from people expecting it to just be another woke disaster and being pleasantly surprised that it wasn't, it's not as good as the original but since people expected much worse it ends up being highly rated

Well, it's happening again, when Homecoming was announced you got people saying "The Combat was always shitty!" and when the HD Collection was showing the new voices you got "fans" saying "The Voices were always bad!". It's now becoming apparent with reviews on Steam that "Silent Hill 2 Fans" who are finally playing their favorite game for the first time are more distracted with the Unreal Engine graphics, the combat that overshadows everything, and the "great voice acting".

More like I played the original and I love the new take on the game I've played many times, especially when they improved on cutscenes that were never actual cutscenes in the original(the endings). They even added new never before seen cutscenes that showed more of what the character's were supposed to give in the original. As far as the combat being shitty, it's certainly better than what I've seen from other silent hill games, and me personally, it's nothing like homecoming's combat system. I don't know what version of silent hill 2 you dreamed up in your head, but I'm imagining it's just another hd remaster if i were to base it solely on the complaints people have made about the remake.

I feel like we're trapped in a dystopian sci-fi film where anything gets rated 8+ at day 1 due to marketing induced collective blind consumerism. You said it well: "Being desperate for something to be great" is a strange phenomenon. I wouldn't mind it, if it wouldn't touch, alter and often butcher already existing pieces of art. I wouldn't ever care about people worshiping Marvel movies, but remakes are different, because they surf on their former glory as an empty shell of technological and accessibility marvel, in a way that for me desecrates the spirit of the originals, especially for this one.

That's a great point, and I would argue it goes far beyond just that, in some cases the original media ends up getting buried or erased because of the remake.
Just today I was trying to complete a puzzle in OG Silent Hill 2, and was trying to search up a solution for the puzzle when all I was ever shown in the search results are these "remakes" so it's such a travesty that the newer generations will only ever know of these franchises through the inferior remakes instead of the original games.

Completely disagree with most of the criticisms. A remake doesn't negate the need for or appreciation of the original, and taking a new spin on presentation often pays off when the original reason for the visual and interface design language was the direct result of existing limitations and trends. Every generation of game genres goes through this, and having a new, fresher take on a classic does nothing to diminish a franchise if it is well received, which this game is.
Objectively, this game does not suck ass. It's perfectly fine if you do not like it, but you don't need to justify your preference for the original to anyone.

The truth is that even if SH2 remake sells well, it will not likely compete with Dead Space remake or RE4 remake, as those titles were highly anticipated for years and have a much bigger fan base, while SH2 remake generally wasn't well received during the post production stage of marketing and was announced after years of rumors and bad press from Konami. If SH2 makes a huge profit initially it will be a miracle, but that has nothing to do with how good the game is. 🤷

We’ll put with the whole thing. The original silent hill 2 is a masterpiece, and it’s one of those games this I couldn’t imagine benefitting from a remake treatment. All said and down, they need to work towards making new games instead of remaking old ones; so many games they’re choosing to remake were good for a reason: they were fresh and offered something worth playing.

It was very obvious from the trailers this was Konami's resident evil right down to james fighting like an action hero (which of course reddit shills defended cause why not they get another re remake look alike) but the problem is that enemies in sh2 or any of the 3 shs are scaled around normal people who fight and shoot like sh**, if you put re camera and gameplay in a sh game but don't scale the enemies then you're pretty much beating up disabled people, and not in a fun away.

This DEMAKE kinda feels very reminiscent of SH: Homecoming with the DODGE thingy, & by focusing so much on action, combat & shooting by putting several enemies in the level, but with 0TS, & like SH: Homecoming in which ALEX was actually a patient which recently escaped from an asylum, who hallucinated about being a SOLDIER because that was his dream which he could never achieve after having killed his younger brother, JAMES{like ALEX} isn't a soldier or ex-soldier either, that is, he isn't 't a person who is highly trained in self-defense with melee or guns.

I played the original silent hill to remake. I actually have the disc copy on PS3. I actually prefer the remake over the original at the moment. The combat feels more fluid and it’s actually scary. The atmosphere feels great especially when you’re in the fog roaming through the town the first time. It was the first time I felt uneasy in a game.
The New voice sounds way better than the original voice. It sounds smooth and silky like it was meant to be. James design is also a really good factor to the game and the cutscenes are really interesting to watch.

I played the original in 2001, not as a kid, but as a 21y-old adult. I still have it. I also have every single SH published on a console. Even the hd remasters. So, I can say without any child nostalgia than this remake is amazing at it's the best SH since SH4. The remake is respectful and self aware of its roots. It's not perfect, but it does a very good job, and most important, dignifies the original and dignifies itself.
So glad to see someone saying, toss this in the bin for something other than Jacob Geller’s garbage consulting group Hit Detection. Perhaps they knowingly hired him in order to have plausible deniability for the massive of a product they were creating.
Blinded by nostalgia. The draw distance isn't that far, it just at the beginning. The more you go into Silent Hill, the more thick is the fog. Personally, I think this improves the mistery, building it up till you reach the town, feeling you are trespassing a veil you can't see.
Saying that facial animations are better in the ps2 it's just bananas. The remake it's not top notch, but what you are saying it's based in nostalgia. Just James eyes have a lot of subtlety in the animations that on ps2 just wasn't possible.
Combatwise? It feels more action but the fight are around the same quantity (even tho I'm fighting less honestly, resources are a bit inferior). During my first run in the original I killed a ton shit of enemies and I actively engaged with them so I could explore places more freely, and many do the same. That way, you cant stock a lot of ammo and heals too.
The pyramid head "boss fight" it's pathetic today, It's not that better in the remake but the glaze it's insane.
I can get you don't like the new designs, but I don't think they take away from the meaning behind. Maria has a couple of cutscenes that emphasize even more what her character its supposed to be. But well, that's preference.
The "diversity" in the opening shot doesn't change the equation in the game. On first impact, what it must convey its that James looks basically dead inside, both achieve that.

everything i seen about this game looks like a downgrade. they didnt make anything even a LITTLE better. and even the camera angles are gone?
SH 2 remake doesn't know subtlety:
- Several scenes were made more explicit so people could understand them. I.e. the water ending, where he looks to the backseat at least three times to make sure we understand Mary is laying there.
- The camera the work in the scenes doesn't have any personality. I didn't like when they zoomed in on Mary's letter during the water ending, it looked so cheap, like a soap opera.
- the general tone was watered down.
- They made James a Resident Evil 4 character. Not even in RE2 remake there is an option to dodge. James is just a regular civilian.
- Some bosses are too dramatic, instead of raw (like the small room for abstract daddy)
- There is too much lighting everywhere. It should be darker.
I would say it's an okay game, but it's not a Silent Hill. The Devs simply didn't understand or wanted to understand the original.

My main issue with this game is the length and enemies the game literally has about 5 regular enemies not counting the bosses and the game is like 18 hours long or more so by the time you killed the100th nurse you just want it to end already 😮
Enemy variety isn't brought up often enough.
Puppet Combo is the future.
This is the type of game you can just tell from early gameplay , that it will be a bad remake

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so to each their own. With that said here is mine. Remake is a fantastic game. What so many fail to understand is, it's not meant to replace the OG, just a remake of a fantastic game. We have both now, and no one can stop you from playing the original. We don't need a remake that directly mimics the OG.
Saying the OG pyramid head fight is more memorable is laughable. You can certainly like it more, but PH swinging at nothing and missing, with James and him looking like two robot AIs trying to figure out what is going on isn't scary or memorable. The main issue with people disliking this game is you're all at an age where in 2001 you were either not born yet or young enough where this game left a strong impression. That doesn't mean it is better, but rather you place this game on a pedestal.
I loved this game in 2001 and this remake made me remember again how much I enjoy Silent Hill 2 in general. Being able to dodge an attack is fun. The mechanics are simply more fun than that of the OG. That is perfectly okay in this game to allow it to be fun to play. They both have wicked atmospheres and if you prefer OG, that makes a lot of sense. Not a zero sum game here ya'll.
@@blahablast3070 Saying the original isn't better because of the age of someone who played it is certainly a thing you just said. Sh2 was about atmosphere and the story, hardly anyone remembers it for the gameplay. The remake is meant to replace it because as of right now young people can't play the original on modern consoles.

What really did it for me was the unnecessarily long and complicated puzzles and the annoying combat. Fighting monsters still sucks and the game treats it like it's the best thing ever. Then they get you running around from room to room, looking for bits and pieces to a puzzle that used to be solved on the fly. It's full of unnecessary fluff. And the lack of enemy variants just makes the game more repetitive.
Yeah tbh I'm done with puzzles if it's not a classic survival horror game.
