Love the design interface, and the only thing I've found so far that I would love to see is a ruler for measuring between object centers, faces, or edges
That may already exist and I just haven't found it yet though

Absolutely love your approach to detail. Just don't forget to do a help in pop-up windows or otherwise for all hidden non-obvious functions, such as entering a formula or entering with additional keys. It would be cool to see the implementation of detachable toolbars so that the user can place them somewhere above the workspace, as they often do in Maya and so on. This is due to the fact that all monitors have different aspect ratios, for example, if the monitor is ultra wide, then dragging the cursor to the button on the side panel takes half a day.

This update touched my heart ❤️
Measures will help me veeery much with 3D printing.
I knew it was money well invested, No regrets at all.
    Very excited for April 5th.
    Good job Nick !!

Noice. I am sold now. The lack of precision was the reason to not fully integrate the tool into my workflow, because from time to time I need to replicate props from the real world. This feature makes the whole process a lot less "destructive".
Also I did my very first 3d print with this program and I needed to expand a circle by 0.5mm - wasn't that easy to Check it afterwards :D
That being said, thanks for your work and I am eager to buy a license when it's released.

That was the missing but so essential feature for me. Great! Maybe in the future we could have this information near the cursor while holding a key?

When extruding, moving or doing anything that has a dimensional dialogue box, I don't waste time mousing over the dialogue box to input dimensions. You can save time by just typing the number as you're dragging the part with the mouse. Hit the minus sign before or after keying the number for negatives. This is a super fast way to create accurate parts for say 3D printing. Excellent product by the way Nick...
It may interest you to know that I'm a design engineer transitioning from Catia and despite spending nearly 15 years on v5, i can model items accurately in Plasticity in a fraction of the time and with far less stress after just a month using the tool. It's a gem.

Love where this software is headed. Something that seems to be missing is the ability to explicitly set a radius or edge length after a curve / line has been created. You can scale them, which is artistically useful, but when you need to make minute adjustments for something like 3d printing, you really need to be able to set a specific size.
I also think it would be a good idea to set up a forum / discord you can access *before* purchasing. If I'm evaluating if I want to buy this software, there aren't yet many resources where I can find out if it can do the thing I need it to do.

an interesting feature, for clothing pattern making, would be to constrain a curve to a length and be able to manipulate that curve while it maintains that length at least illustrator doesn't have that feature and for something that requires precision like fashion design would be a game changer

  • @espressomatic

Amazing work. I hope you'll eventually add perpetual re-dimensioning to be able to edit radii, x, y, z of shapes and volumes. Including the ability to adjust and even remove fillets & chamfers at any time. Also easier snapping to drag objects onto other objects plus alignment to bounds and centers.
Competition such as Shapr3D falls flat on its face with snapping and alignment, though they do have the re-dimensioning down pretty well. Those inabilities are enough to prevent me from using an app full-time.

Hi Nik - Plasticity is a great program! But it lacks a few things: 1 - The solid mesh view is toggled on and off with a single keystroke. (Very important!), 2 - Cooperation with 3D SPACE MOUSE, 3 - The view cube should be bigger and not so small (e.g. with 4K Monitors) there may be a choice in the settings (small, medium and large), 4 - if you select any model in the main view (solid, plane or line), it is not selected on the left side of the model list (the opposite can be done, but you have to look for it). These are the 4 most important changes needed in this great program....there are still more things to change but these are the most important. if this is changed it will be the #1 CAD program in the world like Sketchup, Spark Design or Blender. Kind regards from Austria.

While Plasticity CAD is targeted at Artistic usage, after seeing how amazing it is to use; Fast, Simple to use, fun to use, Please make entering in the precision mode for precision CAD users! This ease of use and quickness of design is what every 3D CAD user wants! Plasticity Makes Complex design look easy!
For example, clicking ( maybe while holding down a key ) on an object would pop up a window to edit the relevant dimensions!
The world of industrial design is waiting for this! SpaceClaim then Sharpr CAD are going in this direction but Plasticity Plus precision entry is the target they are aiming for!
How about Python/Macros for building libraries: Gears, other complex objects, etc!
Put an image on the screen them use it as a template, then add dimensions. Just as it is I am ready to order!
Will also have to try your thinking technique in SpaceClaim and Sharpr CADb, I expect it will not work as well, but maybe helpful.
For the precision CAD users , they will want a few more File types supported, e.g., DXF and Step at least.

I am enjoying the program. It does a lot really well but I'm having a little trouble with some functions. I am only familiar with Adobe Illustrator and this and 3D modeling is all new to me so sorry for all the questions and thank you for your attention.
-I don't see an instruction manual or user guide. Am I just missing it?
-Are there rulers or guides that can be set to create snap points?
-I want to drop in a .png to trace that is exactly 10x20 inches @ 300 ppi . First it comes in huge and it doesn't tell me what size it is. I'd like to set the upper left corner (for instance) at X 0, Y 0, Z 0, and set the size as 10x20 but can't see how.
-Is there a dialogue to set an object to be a specific size? I have a face made of several splines and want to scale it in proportion to be exactly 5.625 wide. Sizing an object by a percentage is obviously useful but that requires math that might not be as easy or accurate as just setting the desired dimensions in inches or mm etc. It's nice to see what the dimensions are in the lower right but better to be able to type in what is wanted.
-It would be nice to be able to move a face without having to select each spline and then moving.
-I have multiple points joined to make a face... if I try to move them I can only drag one at a time and the face goes away and they won't snap back together. Then I have to select both and Scale, click on the Z dialogue, and do 0 tab 0 tab 0 to get them back together. While that is unnecessarily time consuming it also moves both points instead of snapping one that's off to the one that is correct. A point may not necessarily be on the grid so this is also time consuming.
    - I want to move an object a tiny amount but the arrows are always in the center of the face and that is off screen instead of being withing the section of the object that is visible.

let me throw in some minor suggestions on usability:
    1) currently you can switch between selection modes by pressing 1,2,3,4. you can also activate multiple selection modes by holding shift 2,3,4 - or by shift left-clicking multiple selection mode icons - awesome. now, could you make a double click on an icon cause all selection modes to become selected? shift double click could make all selection modes get selected - except the icon you clicked on (inverse selection).
I believe that would suit a Z-Brush users instinct.
    2) with the 3ds Max navigation scheme, there is a little issue: when the mmbutton is pressed to pan the camera and alt is pressed, the camera should switch to rotating - currently in plasticity, instead of switching to rotation the camera goes on panning - you would need to stop holding mmouse button and then alt click mmouse button again in order to pan and then rotate - could you please make it possible to instantly switch from pan to rotate? - it's a small detail, but a great deal for 3dsMax users.
    3) with the 3ds Max navigation scheme, ctrl alt mmbutton should be zooming 50% slower from what it currently is and zooming direction should be inversed (down should be away and up should be closer) - this way it would be like in 3dsMax
Thanks for reading and I hope there is a chance you can make these adjustments!

not sure if you've covered this already (I think I've watched all your updates, so apologies if this was already stated elsewhere), but will there be a shortcut customization feature? when you mentioned shift to move things faster I thought I would personally prefer a different key which im already used to in another app. this could probably be said for many other functions, by just about everyone, as we all have our familisr ways of working. looking great though! excited to finally try it out.

since last week i know your development :-), very nice progress. i am not a artist, more a technical person that uses the houdini way of 3D. have seen that you use typescript, parasolid for the development what i find is the best combination. specialy the parasolid kernel! (the contract is surly not funny)
    RFE:
    - Variables (can be Global),
    - Codeeditor window for the fields when you have a huge equation it helps writing.
    - storing presets of equations (based on Typescript?)
    - a integration of scripting
    - not sure if you have a function history / Outliner
    - CLI, Docker option in the future.

We need to be able to change colors inside Plasticity as blue lines are difficult to see against a dark background plus editing spline vertex control points are often almost invisible.

i've been playing with it a little bit using the free trial, and it definitely looks interesting. I've always wanted to give cad modeling a try, but most of the available options out there are either subscription based, too expensive for a perpetual license, or limited in some other way, and from what i've seen of Plasticity so far, it has promise. I'm curious to know when, or if, you plan to add 3dconexion space mouse support, as for something like this, they're very useful (especially for custom hotkey setups)

I recently purchased Plasticity and it's a great software. But I also am having difficulty understanding the stl and obj output functions. I prefer using Inches instead of millimeter and meters. When i switch the interface to inch selection and attempt exporting a 1x1x1 inch cube it doesn't export properly. When I load it into my printing software it recognizes that it's in inches but loads to small. Is there any advice as to how to model and export in Plasticity in inches properly?

Yea so after playing around with units its crystal clear they are a complete waste of time! Tried to create a simple 100mm cube in Plasticity, export it as an object and then import it into Blender and it was factored down to a scale representative of scaled down version a factor of .0001mm! Took a 100mm cube I created in Blender and imported it into Plasticity and it was scaled the exact opposite and was so huge I could never get it to scale down to even fit my work area.
So really what was the point of even adding units & measurements when it is so absurdly off? Somewhere along the way your figures are way, way, way off! I was hoping I found an affordable solution to create 3D printable models but as is that is not possible in any way with Plasticity. I hope you do eventually work out how to make these units and measurements real world instead of just working inside the software as some arbitrary, unrealistic application.
