Steering Wheel Replacement on a 2012-2018 Ford Focus

In this video I replaced the steering wheel on my 2012 Ford Focus S. The finish was peeling off of my original one, and I managed to find a new steering wheel from the Ford dealer for relatively cheap! Installation is also very simple, but the biggest hurdle is getting the airbag removed since the two little spring pins are difficult to release.

Folks should make certain that airbag module is completed dead before getting too far into it. I think takes up to an hr, but Fords can be as little as 15 minutes. It’s been a while since I removed one, definitely wouldn’t want my face or chest near it if it deploys.

Just unhook the positive and touch it to the negative cable , will drain all power from all electronics

Very nice video. However you could've disconnected the negative terminal by unbolting the black wire that's connected to the chassis. It'll kill power to the car.
I also would've upgraded to the wheel with cruise control.

@@eduards_mellups Yes it's just a chassis ground, if you disconnect it, it'll kill the circuit and kill power to the car entirely. You can add cruise control by getting the wheel with the buttons and using FORScan I'm pretty sure.

Is it possible to put a 2017 Ford Escape steering wheel on a 2013 focus se with spirt mode I want the steering wheel soly for the paddle shifters a couple forums said it was plug and play because they use the same steering wheel wiring

I’m honestly not sure. The wheel is different in newer Focuses and Escapes, so you’d probably have to swap the airbag too. But if the wiring is the same, it should work. You might just have to enable paddle shifters with Forscan or something.

I think you can, but you may need to reprogram the computer.

Sorry I missed your comment earlier! I looked into it, and it’s possible, but it is a LOT of work to do the swap. Personally I decided not to because I didn’t think it was worth all the effort. But if you do, let me know how it goes!

Yes. The cruise control will work if you enable it with FORSCAN. The radio buttons won't though.
