I've had my SUN019 (black face, bracelet) for a month, and it is a serious if not polarizing piece. LARGE. Crazy wrist presence. Crazy heavy. Insane pretty finish. It's as tooly a tool watch as you're going to find. If you like a serious diver, you'll probably like this. Charging it. If you wear it normally thru the day, it will charge enough to run over night and be ready to go the next day. I wasn't about to shake this bastidge 30-40 thousand times to juice it up, so I bought the Seiko kinetic watch charger (can be expensive) which will do the job in as little as 4 hours (depending on the state of the power reserve). It's not for everybody. It works for me. I LIKE it.
I had read that there are charging devices you can get for thses, but I didn't want to mention it in the review because I didn't know anything about them. Can you not toss a Kinetic on a watch winder like you'd use for an automatic watch I wonder?
Fish - normal watch winders won't work on these (I bought one... nothing happened). The kinetic chargers work by induction. They generate an electric field which energizes the power cell in the watch. The Seiko charger (they say it's the only one which will work) is rather expensive; I caught one on sale from a guy in Greece who was unloading his kinetic watch gear. It was worth it, I've got 2 Seiko kinetics. Oh yeah... anybody need a like new watch winder? Used only 3 times.
One remedy to the long strap is to coil it in the bottom of a cup, pour hot water in and let it cool. This gives the rubber a permanent curve so the extra length hugs the strap closely.
I have the worldtimer Seiko Kinetic SUN067, which comes in a more reasonnable 42 millimeter case size. Surprinsingly, the date window is located at 3 o'clock, so I assume Seiko has different versions of this Kinetic movement. Great video, as usual.
I had a SUN019 and sold it after 2 years of ownership. I found it too heavy on a bracelet. Guess what? I regretted selling it as soon as it was picked up. Really missed the watch Just bought the Blue Padi and I am happy again. So much lighter on the rubber strap. Last of the great Seiko divers. Hello my good old friend.
I have the SUN019 which comes with a bracelet. I'm contemplating getting a SUN065, swap the rubber strap from it to my 019, and wear the 065 with bracelet. This way the 019 will look all business with the rubber dive strap while the 065 can be my fancy watch due to its striking blue parts complimented by the blingy bracelet.
When I got my new Kinetic Baby Tuna it inky had a charge indication of 5 seconds. After wearing it for two days and a serious effort at hand shaking to get the power level up the best I can do is 20 seconds. After about ten minutes this power level drops to 10 seconds. Does it just take a while to get these watches up to full power and the power unit to "stabilize"? Perhaps I'm just being paranoid since this is my first experience with a kinetic timepiece.
When I bought mine I shook it like crazy wouldn't hold a charge. Had to bring it back to where I bought it and they replaced the capacitor, fixed it instantly. I have no idea why an unused brand new watch whatever have a aged capacitor already.
Man, you're on a Seiko reviewing roll right now. This is an interesting one. I'm not really sure how I feel about the look of it. It looks like a tank! I do like the kinetic movement, despite never having owned one. Kind of a nice middle ground for someone scared to jump to a mechanical watch.
I know I've been very fortunate to have had several loaned to me recently. I have a Cocktail Time and a SARG still to review, not to mention a sweet Hamilton.
Any idea why this watch seems so large? If you compare the actual dimensions with a new Turtle (SRP777 or 779) the diameter is 48 vs 44, thickness the same and as I recall the weight of the two watches without a bracelet or strap is pretty close.
I have tiny wrists and also I work in the Navy. I am not a diver. So yeah I will get some serious shit from divers if I buy this. Oh I did buy it Muhahahahahaha

No, you can't charge kinetic watches with automatic winders, unfortunately.

Thanks for the info on the watch winders, I was curious about that.

Cool tip thanks that's helpful.
I love mine but same problem of size with my 6.5” wrist. Other than that it fits comfortably fit it’s size.
The last of the great kinetic divers
I had to replace the capacitor after owning for 2 years, but apperently its an upgraded one and will last alot better. Great watch.
That’s a beast of a watch love it
Thank you JustBlue! I was swinging the crap out of mine and it only got to 10 when I pushed the upper crown. I thought it was broken!
Great video! Just picked this watch up for $314.00 out the door, it's BIG but fits the wrist smaller than you would expect.
Thanks for watching, enjoy the watch!
Great review Mate!!! I own 2 ... yes they’re large, heavy, loud and in your face..... by far the biggest divers I own and I love them both.... !
Thanks Edgar, glad you liked the review.
I’m in Australia and I ordered one of these off amazon on the weekend. Can’t wait to get my grubby paws on it.
Nice, congrats and enjoy it.
I like GMT watches. I have a Seiko kinetic dress watch, an SRN051P1. Thanks for the review.
Great review! Bought one!
gorgeous watch. thank you.
Battery and capacitor lasts for about 10 years and not cheap to replace. Other than that it's awesome watch
U deserve more subscriber sir. Very good review.
Thanks I appreciate that.
I like the sound of rotor just like my citizen ny0040

Thanks for watching. I wasn't aware they had a smaller SUN Kinetic model. That's very cool.

I bought this watch.great peice. But my skin is allergic to the silicone strap.hence I had to replace the strap. Still looks great..

Not a bad idea. The 065 would be really nice on a bracelet.

Sorry I'm not entirely sure. I'd wear it daily for a week or two and if it never hits full charge I'd call Seiko.

Good stuff as always...wonder if you'll do a review of the SRP637 Baby Tuna?!
I don't think I'd purchase one so it would have to be a loaner. Would like to check one out though.

It looks like an Audi RS6 Performance
Nice watch. Thank you.
Thanks man, hope you enjoyed the review.
JustBlueFish I did. You did the usual through and great job. Thank you.
Best review!
Thanks James

Wow! It does seem like a tank. What are the markings on the side of the case?
I don't know why the side of the case was carved out that way. No other button under the crown.
This watch is still speaking to me. I'm going to have to try one on, somewhere.

I don't know, it does wear really big. I don't think I could wear it as a daily watch but it's nice.
I have the all Black one sun 045 and because it's all black it looks like it wears smaller..
Nice, how are you enjoying it?
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews i like it a lot and no problem with charging.
I have tiny wrists and also I work in the Navy. I am not a diver. So yeah I will get some serious shit from divers if I buy this. Oh I did buy it Muhahahahahaha
People also buy Ferraris who are not professional race car drivers! 🤣
The last time I checked; my Kinetic was one second fast a month.
I want a steel bracelet where can i get one thanks please reply
Does anyone know where this watch is made? It says the movement is Japan, but what about the watch itself?
Anybody know the band width for this in particular? If i pull the trigger on one ill likely replace the band with a shorter one for my wrist size.
24mm lug width where the strap connects to the case.
I may pick this watch up soon for about $425.00 is it worth this price? Thanks
Sounds like a good deal. Enjoy it.
Tin Man around 370-380 on ebay easily find thats including shipping thru a reliable seller
Nice watch except for the 24mm lugs
everything on this guy is big, maybe it's from Texas?
JustBlueFish Hahaha..Maybe
Beautiful watch!!!! How many seconds lost per month? And how many is the power reserve? Thanks a lot!!!!
Bad Bezal... mine lines up nicely... just got lucky...
when you put it on it looks like your gonna cut blood circulation on your wrist you have it too tight and then you claim is way to big

Kinetic movements are waste of money
They tried but it turned up being just a gimmick
I'd recommend solar for a diver
