  • My fourth video on the log cabin series.
    I have just graduated high school and want a big challenge in life. I decided that before I continue my studies I'm going to take a year off where I alone with only hand tools and raw power build my own off grid traditional log cabin by hand in the Swedish forest.
    In this episode I am clearing trees from the build site, building a sawhorse, transporting the firewood back to the homestead and draging the first logs to the build site.
    If you wish to follow me on this journey, from forest to off grid log cabin, then click the link to subscribe: th-cam.com/users/ErikGrankvi...

    Somewhere I read this is your Grandparents land, how many acres do they own? Seems some of the roads and areas where your working is quite big and long. He is very good at growing rocks and trees, just the right size for log homes. Your very lucky to have all this available to you.

  • @princesstilly2901
    @princesstilly2901 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    And if anytime you are criticised for chopping down the trees - 1. The forest will cope, 2. It's private property, 3. What you're doing is way more natural and good for the social and family and international "environment" than any chopping down trees bothers greenies, ok?! Besides, the critical ones are not usually hard workers, taking initiative - I'm sure you take way better care of nature than they do that we don't see - when they're finished criticising, they'll be hypocrites ok. You're not. You're authentic. Stay brave. Trust yourself. Love what you do, and how you do it, for you....

    that is a lot of trips to make one log at a time :P could have chained a few together at once no?
    also, im curious, were the logs being felled that far from the cabin build site? were there none in the vicinity of the build site, also if you didnt have a tractor what would you have done to move so many logs.

    • @ErikGrankvist
      @ErikGrankvist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think this was like the first log I draged down with the traktor so I started with one, but of course I have draged a minimum of two down the same time. The majority of the trees are taken down just ~60 meters from the build site. But I don't just want to take down every closest tree around, I only take down trees that are growing to close to another tree, so I am thinning out the forest and still preserving it. It is actually not that long away that I am driving with the traktor. I first thought of dragging these trees down this "mountain" by hand but used the traktor as it was really hard. The traktor isn't really 100% by hand so it would have been nice to have a horse like they did back then.

    • @CircumcisionIsChildAbuse
      @CircumcisionIsChildAbuse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ErikGrankvist yeah ive logged with horses before its quite unique. im trying to figure out how im going to do my set up one day and a tractor seems like the only thing half practical. like yours, a small, old tractor, a horse would work if they were in close proximity but then you'll have to keep a horse properly cared for, which is just another task to add to the list. most horses trained to pull lumber are draft horses but their size almost makes the logs they'd be pulling out over kill because they'd have to be managable by one person, versus massive logs that would require pullies and chians and whole massive construction projects just to lift them to where they'd need to be.

    • @ErikGrankvist
      @ErikGrankvist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse yes that's true. The horse is mostly because it looks so awesome.
