Rest In Peace
Such a cheerful way to approach being kidnapped
MrPerfect2000Z I sing this when I'm stuffed into someone's car
I watched this a few weeks ago. because my girl never saw it.
I never realized what the deal was with "grandfathers shed"
Grandfather would tell the kids he was off on an adventure to an exotic place when he went out to the outhouse to wrestle out a poop.
"I'm off to Timbuktu"
That's quite amusing,
When you're old and have hard mileage on your body a healthy bowel movement is like a holiday. That character is probably based on some old veteran of Victoria's Foreign Service who had a shot up disease wracked body Ian Flemming knew as a kid who would pack a kit to attend to their business in the outhouse who came up with that shtick, to announce that they needed some privacy.
I had to share that thought.
Especially when you are being snatched by a ridiculous Bond villain.
ikr
I had no idea this was written by Ian Fleming... Suddenly some aspects of the story make more sense ^_^
call me weird, but when i was a kid i'd block the drain in the shower so no water would escape, and i waited 'till water was ankle high and i'd sing this song while kicking the water, just like he does. Nostalgia
+WNKRZ You had an awesome childhood.
One Nerd95 Best parts of my life
Hahahaha that sounds like great fun
I'm going to do this next time I have a wash
+spartacus3111 it's a shame I've grown up, time flies
This is posh-ibly the most British thing I've ever seen in my life.
That is one of the most American things I have ever heard.
you Americans live stereotyping us you lit are a bunch of plonkers
Crumpets?Tea? yeah we love those but we eat more and drink more than that!
it's like us saying you are fat and eating fatty food for every meal. Oh wait you lot do that all day!
*English
PortOutStarboardHome= POSH
RIP Lionel Jeffries
One of the best songs from the film.
Thumbs Up if you agree.
I can't beleave he was 42 at this time! His performance is wonderful!
He was wearing makeup to look older than his actual age, like Dick Van Dyke did when he was Mr. Dawes Senior in Mary Poppins.
grandpa potts is an absolute icon
He breaks into song while being taken against his will, loses his hat, is dragged through water, and witnesses two guys left for dead in the ocean, all without a care in the world. BOSS!
This is exactly how British and German tourists travel together
Yes, people are always dropping on our heads and into the channel. It leaves a terrible ruddy mess, what.
@@organisationxiv2927 way to take it literally pal
as a kid, i never understood why grandpa always said he was going on an a travelling adventure and then would step into his tiny little hut.
but it's clearly obvious...he's a time lord and his hut is his TARDIS!
+rockerseven WOW! Your right! That does make more sense!!! XD
That is so much better than the explanation that I had. in the musical its made more clear that the "hut" is the outhouse and so grandpa uses a polite euphemism when paying a visit.
see, I never picked up on that, especially since he went in there with full on exploring gear lol
I think I just had a nerdgasm.
XD
"Start Swimming!" "I don't know how!" "Then Start Drowning!"
Pretty good advice, don't you think.
I think it's stop drowning.
Keertana Vemuri LOL
Keertana Vemuri yes
When the Baron and his guys toss the spies overboard, it gets me every time.
My fav site part is when they had the little weird vent white tube whatever those things were and got back to shore. When I was little my dad had got like all the action figures of all the characters and we ruined them by putting them in the bathtub and reenacting all the scenes
Strangely this makes me proud to be British :D
+Tommy England You're Union Jack flag kind of made that obvious anyway! Haha! XD
Same
+WolfieMcMuffin why would anyone want to be anything else. we're british we won at life. yeah britain is a bit shite and things are falling down around us but I wouldn't want to be anything else. who really wants to be Australian.
+WolfieMcMuffin ah shit sorry pal that wasn't aimed at you.
***** Well if you want to come to England, this is the year to do it. Apparently it is going to be the hottest summer we have had in over 100 years, My English skin can't hack it lol I get burnt and freckles :(
This is so British I'm currently waiting in a queue to post this comment
Captain Obvious are queue's a British thing
We do love our queues 😂
If the crew on a British Airways flight would sing this after take off...That would be British,God Save the Queen!
I've taken the Underground, I wouldn't say Brits queue :p
@@nightfox1416 no apostrophe in a simple plural.
Kidnapped by people in a zeppelin, and this is his reaction. Priceless!
Someone happened to say the word "Posh" and now I have this song stuck in my head XD
O my god, the same thing happened to me :) when one of teachers said its a posh life I sang the song out of no where then the whole class started singing it XD
Hahaha we had an awesome Childhood!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posh!
It was once when someone said 'Posh' they thought they meant Posh Spice...
That’s why I’m here right now lol
When I was a kid, I laughed insanely when I first saw and heard this song. I still love it!
You just dropped someone!
My favourite song in the movie.
THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVIORTE SONGS IN THE MOVIE BECAUSE GRANPA POTTS IS SO OBLIVIOUS TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO HIM. HE WAS TRAVALING FURTHER AND FURTHER AWAY FROM ENGLAND TO A STRANGE COUNTRY
amin sadeghpour no need to YELL
Truly to be taken from green England to some godforsaken land is a fate worse than death.
What ever the hell this old guy has done far surpasses any epic which most of us could ever hope to achieve.
Interesting fact: many TV airings cut this song, but keep the scene with the spies swimming ashore at the end, completely ruining the joke and depriving us of a cool song.
Why tf did they cut it?
political correctness.
+Chrismax18 I don't get what's so un-pc about this song? Any excuse for the killjoys 😑
Bill Hiers this is like the best song in the whole film. Plus Lionel Jeffries was amazing
He also got pneumonia from this scene.
the grandpa truly has a beautiful voice
After repeatedly watching this movie when I was a little kid, now 11 years later I now finally understand the words to this song.
When you say, "There's nothing else we can throw out!" It's an Open Invitation for everyone to hurl you overboard! XD
This comment made my day thanks
Christian Victor Always glad to bring a smile to someone's face! Your welcome!
That and him yelling out to them when they dropped the first spy out was always my favorite part of the song XD
" *START SWIMMING* "
" *I DON'T SWIM* "
" *THEN START DROWNING* "
LOL I LOVE THAT LINE
R.I.P. Mr. Jeffries. My children now love this video, my favorite from my childhood. Thanks for the great moments -- you made this movie even more unforgettable.
24 people must have mised the like button, because it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to dislike this.
these 24 people were passengers of that zeppelin
they should have thought better than to anchor the shed and take it with them
@@alexanderip1003 24 people were thrown out of that zeppelin
My grandmother met Lionel Jeffries once when he was filming something in Wales. He offered her his chair. Nice guy, apparently.
A true officer and a gentleman, he was a serving Captain in the Royal West African Frontier Force.
"Oh the posh posh traveling life the traveling life for me." That line reminds of two other songs I like such as "An actor's life for me." And " A Pirate's life for me." Those are some of the greatest songs of my childhood including this one!
Some mates of mine sang this behind as we got into our car when we got married. LOVE Grandpa Potts
Best wedding!
I'm 16 and I used to watch this when I little because all my other siblings are like in their late to mid 20's now so I used to watch it with them great film
Here's a fun fact: thats an actual fully functional airship they made. It was destroyed in a crash.
well shit mate
He also got pneumonia when filming this scene.
A D Robinson
Lionel Jeffries wasn't the only one. Anna Quale (The Baroness) also suffered from pneumonia during her scenes in the water.
I really fancy a cup of tea right now
I had never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang until last Saturday. After watching it, I have to say that it is now my favorite musical.
This is my favourite song of the film it’s a great song for travelling all over the world indeed isn’t it right guys!
*You just dropped someone.*
He was very calm when he said it.
It’s a shame kids now won’t be able to love this movie like we did. Then on the other hand at least they won’t have nightmares about the child catcher
RIP Lionel, and thank you for being a vibrant light in my childhood.
I was listening to this when I opened up my TH-cam account.
h see ig v f ff/
He was actually only 42 here
U avin a giggle ther m80?
Nope. Put another way, he was actually six months younger than Dick Van Dyke. Jefferies lost his hair quite early and so frequently played older character roles.
As kids
,We were talking about how old we would be in the far future When the year 2000 came."38!Eww, That's SO OLD!"Wish I was just "So old! "Now, It's all so much personal perspective, Isn't it?
"start svimming!"
"but I don't svim!"
"THEN START DROWNING!"
tee hee one of my fave lines of the movie
loved this song, made me smile even when i was a kid and saw the film.
stil make me smileat 45, rest in peace Lionel you made millions smile in world that doe's'not smile enough.thank you
this is so British I conquered India
I love these old films, the musicals of that era re just class, im 40 now and these bring back so many great childhood memory's
, im also a huge fan of extreme metal......but nothing can beat these classic songs
I used to watch this movie so often when I was younger. I miss these old movies. Can you believe this came out in 1968?? Here I am in 2018, 50 years later....
RIP, Lionel. Thanks for the memories.
RIP Lionel, Thanks for all the laughs and the tears too. God Bless x
British and German travelers in a nutshell.
LOL...not quite for the Germans love. Quite the opposite..

I can’t get this song out of my head
Thank you Lionel Jeffries you magnificent bastard
Absolute legend
Dude, you have the same last name as me... No joke. This is kinda weird...
fun song and Lion Jerrries is clearly having a blast belting it out! great times
RIP Lionel, thanks for making us laugh, and cry. Genius.
He doesn't even care that he's being kidnapped, he just wants to travel.
Watched this in 1995. And I am a Nigerian.
My father was somewhat like a mix of Grandpa Potts and Commander McBragg. His stories were wonderfully made up, and as he was born in Ireland in 1917, he had that Imperial air about him, even though he was poor. That's what I loved about him- it didn't take money for all of us to travel the world and meet the Potentates of Europe. All it took was imagination! That's the message of POSH and Grandpa Potts. He was a remnant from the Old World. People like him, who had lived through the Millennial reign of Christ, were considered to be "Eccnetrics" or looneys and placed into asylums.
We would sing Posh when going on a trip. He had a Dunhill cigarette lighter with someone else's initials on it! Totally in character for my "posh" papa.
One of the most British songs I've ever heard
Written by two Americans.
I used to sing it when I was pissed :)
im pissed
A man raising his kids with his own father is a neat little family.
Lionel Jeffries is such a wonderful actor. I knew him well and miss him.
I was raised on this movie and I'm almost 20. Whenever I listen to the songs now I'll let my mom hear and she'll just smile and shake her head before saying the name of the movie because she already knows what I've been doing for the past hour XD lmao
YOU jUST DROPPED SOMEONE !!!!!
I hear this song and I'm 8 years old again.
I love the character of Grandpa in this movie - he's a little insane, but he's a sweetheart. Well done Lionel Jeffries!
they really missed an opportunity to have this sung at the Olympics but at least we got eric idle :)
"Start swimming!"
"I can't swim!"
"Then start drowning!"
XD
I love how eccentric he is! Completely unaware he's being kidnapped, just having a ball that he finally gets to travel for real! Hahahaha
You just dropped someone!
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang wasn’t my favorite growing up, but I would always rewind this scene to watch over and over
Man, this is the best. I am making a sticker for my sister's car that says "it's the posh, posh, traveling life" we watched this movie like 1000 times when we were little.
Imagine how weird it would have been to hear grandpa singing below you, joyfully, with distant instrumentals, as your zeppelin descends into the ocean.
This is elegance by the miiiiiiiiiiile
"you've just dropped someone!!"
such common courtesy
Probably one of my favorite movies.
one of my favorite movie characters and a great fun song !!!
This is the best song in the film!
Superb, absolutely Superb film a Classic!
Chitty was on TV last night and this scene was not here!! This is my absolute favorite part of this movie
All my childhood i've loved this song...but up until right now, I had no clue what he was saying.
I was singing this song while building a fence at my moms today. She thought I was nuts when I started doing the dance. :)
Dang kids and their addictive movies!
I must have watched this movie like 20 times a day when I was younger, and now, 7 years later I can bearly remember what its about. Time to dig it out and watch it again!
Another little fragment of my childhood fades away. Thank you, Mr Jeffries. RIP.
Oml my parents had the DVD of this and even though I wasn’t born in this era (far from it) this movie was so enjoyable! I love it.
Dear, wonderful old Lionel Jeffries - 'so long and toodle-oo.'
Pardon the dust of the upper crust... Fetch us a cuppa tea! lol love that bit
Lionel Geoffreys a total genius and very amusing man indeed.. He directed 'The Railway Children' (with Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins)... Funny and totally fab fella ... he reminds me of mi' ol' Dad... hee hee
R.I.P. Lionel you have left some wonderful works for us to enjoy sir... :0)x
When I was little this was my most favorite part of the movie ever.
what a brilliant man, he directed the railway children
My brother's and my favourite song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. :)
This is living! this is style! this is elegance by the miiiiiiile! oh the posh posh travelling life, the travelling life for me!
"This is livin', this is style, this is elegance by the mile
Oh the posh posh traveling life, the traveling life for me
First cabin and captain's table regal company
Whenever I'm bored I travel abroad but ever so properly
Port out, starboard home, posh with a capital P-O-S-H, posh
The hands that hold the scepters, every head that holds a crown
They'll always give their all for me they'll never let me down
I'm on my way to far away tah tah and toodle-oo
---POSH with a capital P (--o-s-h, Poshhhh!)
this is so classic. today's generation of kids should really watch films like these (chitty chitty bang bang, mary poppins, sound of music, etc.).
I Love This Song
Caught myself humming this at work had to look it up.
When I was little, I always thought it was Push. I watched it again a few days ago and was like 'Posh makes a lot more sense'
Watched this last night and not only was incredibly amused, I've had this in my head ever since.
Never knew there was a guide to living Posh despite your circumstances... then I watched this.
RIP Lionel. Thanks for the laughs.
Lionel Jeffries mentioned he caught a stinking cold after filming this scene in a large water tank filmed in Pinewood studios, and the water was quite filthy!
this song brings back so many memories it was my favorite song as a kids
R.I.P. Lionel Jeffries Bless You x
I have this on VHS and it still has the intermission in the middle of the movie~ I used to love this movie so much
