TLDR: MTU size. This explains different devices with same issue, but an older one without. I do hope you see this. I would say try and adjust router settings such as MTU (Maximum transmission unit). This is one of the things ISPs mention changing and often can change remotely for you. From my experience in my country it's sometimes used as a cop-out to shift the work to someone else. "Change the MTU to x, and call us back tomorrow if the issue is the same", then it goes back to Y and then X and it just loops passing the responsibility. However, here it may be something causing an issue. Packet fragmentation when packets are too large, and other things. This would explain (somewhat) why when larger packets of info are being sent the network overwhelms, etc. Older WiFi devices may have different standards, and limit the MTU to the laptop, or something alike. It's all guesswork but I would say log into your router (or routers if there's multiple between your computer to the internet) and adjust the MTU. With an MTU mismatch there can be performance problems or lack of connectivity because some packets that are too big for the receiver to cope with. The "receiver" could be your computer, or another router between your computer and the internet with the issues. You could also try being connected directly to the furthest router (the one closest to your fibre box, adsl box, etc) When a packet is too large for a device it should just be rejected. This means the bigger packets of data including TONS of terrain change etc could be rejected, meanwhile other smaller packets are allowed through - hence you're not just losing connection entirely, but more waiting for a smaller packet of info to come through to not just time out. Mismathed MTUs would explain other devices with the same issue on the network, as well as why an older standard of WiFi could mitigate it - and finally using VPNs and ExitLag (another VPN/proxy solution) may fix it as well - as those can indeed change MTU size for your device or network. They may split a LARGE packet into multiple smaller packets, mitigating the issue. A gaming--centric VPN may use smaller MTU than video and data-centric VPNs. just my 2c :)
@@ThtSchoolHecker clearly that test can't possibly test every single possible route. Some node out there might just drop packets larger than his MTU, hence why the problem appears on some servers more than others
I'm used to lag, as I play Minecraft on Nintendo Switch, but I've never seen or experienced anything this bad. I am quite sorry for you, and I hope you are able to fix this issue soon.
I live in Australia too, Hypixel literally is a potato, basically all mobs render as armour stands, and I can one shot any mobs without taking a single heart of damage from them.
I had the problem a while ago too. My game was almost unplayable. What I ended up doing was wiping my whole PC clean and redownloading everything VIA backups. My game’s performance increased and I was able to play again.
as a person who lives in the middle of nowhere, i get usually 700 ping average on every game i play. its really not as impossible as people make it out to be, but that really depends on what game im playing honestly. sometimes i have random lag spikes to like 10000 ping, my record actually being over ONE MILLION AND STILL MAINTAINING CONNECTION. *even with all of this i dont have this problem. i dont get disconnected im just really slow.* edit: by this i dont mean just minecraft i mean every (online) game i play.
1 million ping should be impossible by all standards lmao that's a 16 minute, 10 seconds delay between packet sent and packet recieved I don't know a single game that maintains connection to the client beyond like 5 minutes without a response
Idk how but on a MC server made and run by a few of my close friends, the ping counter by the names on the tab menu shows one owner consistently in the negatives, the record being -2k We still don't know how or why that happens
As an Australian, I assumed this was just a common occurrence, but as you mentioned, i think it's not just internet related. Whenever i join servers I always fall through the world in my first few attempts at joining. Usually it works after a few attempts at joining. I assumed it was because I play on NA servers like Hypixel and PvP legacy, but now both those servers are unplayable Also yes I do get around 210 ping on a good day
7:00 Here's where I started to think that it might be very closely related to the book chunk ban? as it seems to both be about sending bigger amounts of custom/NBT data to a client, forcing itself to "Connection reset" in both ways.
the book chunk ban just works by sending too many large packets to the connection and in the end to youre network card (that nowdays most pcs have integrated). this is about the same concept as a DDOS tho it is weaker as it only exceeds the network card's limit and not the router limit (that has a network card itself lol, cus a router is just a pc with a fancy software). this is likely the same issue as the chunk bans because packets in later minecraft version have become bigger and bigger, and minecraft sending each chunk as a packet doesen't help. i have too experenced this issue and fixed it by usind a dedicated wifi6 network card (with proper drivers installed)
I've got a feeling it could be your ISP rate-limiting your speed under load, but not rate-limiting connections to things like the buffer testing so their internet looks like it's better. If that's the case there's very little I could think to do, the best option I can think of would be setting up a personal VPN on a rented server somewhere else meaning it wouldn't be blocked by anti-VPN plugins. Edit: MrEpic has been able to fix the problem and this was not it!
actually, there is something a lot more fishy with you IP. Sometimes looks like your IP is put in wait time, so specifically you get fucked up. Like a target attack. Kinda like a DOS.
i second this because solutions to service provider throttling is bypassable by using vpns like the one mentioned as a band aid solution. you should double check the agreement with your broadband provider to see if anything mentions isp throttling.
@@marlon.8051 His old laptop probably didn't download a ton of stuff at once either. The game was running at 15FPS so the network routines were likely running slower as well.
- Check your firewall and make sure to allow access in windows defender and control panel - Wire your internet - Change motherboards or wifi card - Change your java version between 8, 17, and 21 - Check your modem and call your ISP. - Check all your wires and replace any coax, lightspeed or ethernet cables. - Turn off snooper and connection queries
I am happy that I found someone else that understands, whenever I try to play skyblock on Hypixel, I would always get kicked out because it would say something is wrong with my signal
Sounds like its definitely a network issue, likely with max packet size as others have mentioned. I'd try process of elimination to try hunt down which hop exactly it occurs at. eg. host a server on your PC and connect locally from your brothers to eliminate your home network. If the error persists there's likely a router setting you can change to fix it. If not go one layer out to a nearby friend who uses the same ISP. They will most probably be on the same data centre as you and test if the issue occurs there. At this point its a issue with your ISP so calling them might be your best bet. Any further hops might help you narrow down where exactly the error occurs but it might still be up to your ISP to fix it.
My biggest theory is that there is a very low limit data transfer making it so your internet can not catch up with the amount of traffic required. The weidest thing is that it only seems to happen o some devices, yours, your brother's (11:20), asus laptop (11:25), but not on the Pentium laptop (11:31). My first thought was that it might have something to do with being ethernet since I also experienced some capping issues with it but the asus laptop is on WiFi and is also having the issue. But I think what is most interesting is ExitLag fixing your connection issues, from the marketing material it seems they use multiple simultaneous connections on your side (client proxy) and then merge them on the server's side (proxy server) which made me think it might be some faulty router configuration that is ridiculously capping your throughput per-connection. The easiest way to test my theory would be to do some speed test (Ookla's will probably work fine here) and test Single connection vs Multi connection, if my theory is correct Single connection will be ridiculously low (
That is also what I had in mind while watching the video, considering the fact that he also landed on a forum about CS:GO, which has a built in feature to try and only connect to low bandwidth servers.
It’s sounds like Minecraft is only designed with single port in mind (this makes sense as Notch developed servers with the community and probably didn’t need or even think about multi-port functionality), which would back up this theory. This would make it very possible to have the same issue with a new router as one port can only do so much on its own. The reason I think the low end laptop worked it because it’s a.) putting less strain on the port because it’s requesting less graphical and computational data; b.) has built in forced multi port; c.) or Minecraft has different port handling for different device builds and configurations Cool idea ⭐️👍
@@patrickmurphy2323 router wont do anything if the copper is practically utterly corroded, you're rate limited, the tower relay is severely overburdened or your distance to tower is more than roughly 1Km. (or all of the above)
You all to focused on minecraft, before you can start to diagnose a problemm first we need to get the extend wee dealing with: other games affected? If its only minecraft it could as well be minecrafts networking implimentation
I am a server owner myself, and I have constantly noticed players having issues connecting, seeing a lot of join/leaves and what not. Knowing it's NOT just my server, because my host has no idea why it's happening beyond "oh no a connection issue" is really helpful
I used to have a similar issue with random ping spikes followed by disconnects from various servers. My issue was a modification that displayed my ping to the server on screen. apperently it flooded the server with requests until my connection was eventually blocked for a couple hours at a time. Turning off that mod/feature solved the issue completely for me.
I had a similar problem. I had so many network issues from google pages taking 30 minutes to load to constantly timing out on every server. No matter how many times I reset my network connection. Yesterday I updated windows and all of those problems.
@@ethanbear360 i know. just thought i would share my issue since it was similar. I couldnt find a solution to my issue online either. If i can help someone with this comment i'd be happy.
Some ideas: 1. Boot a live linux and see if the issue persists. If it does, its likely a hardware issue. 2. Use a different java versions and implementations aka openjdk or openj9. 3. Check any software that might change your network settings eg. firewall, vpn etc. and try to reset to defaults 4. Some antivirus / firewall software might actually intercept your (minecraft) traffic and do things, even if its just reading and slowing things down. So try disabling any as a test.
@TheMisterEpic Maybe the problem IS the fact that any modification to the terrain adds to the amount of data a chunk takes to load, meaning that the more a chunk is modified the more lag being in said chunk causes.
MInecraft uses a TCP connection, you'd probably have to look at Windows' TCP properties in windows netsh utility, maybe comparting them with other machines on your local network might point you in the right direction. Adapters also have settings like MTU jumbo packets that could be looked at, not ever adapter has the same settings avaliable but it could be something to look at. But these are per NIC in your computer so wifi and lan would behave differently if so. Perfmon is also a great utility to look at the segmets of TCP data over IPv4, which when compared could show any discrepencies in data like failed connections, dropped packets (retransmissions).
My first thought would also have been a weird MTU problem on the main PC, mainly because a different computer in the same network does not seem to have the issue. Maybe buy a cheap Wifi dongle and test with that. This way you would use a different NIC with the default MTU for it that should be ok...
minecraft uses TCP? yikes. I thought it would be UDP. Explains why the servers get destroyed when so many people are conntecting and might actually be a route cause for this issue, considering with every minecraft version, more data packets will likekly be needed per second to handle everything on TCP.
I have heard of it... it's happening to me on several PCs as well It makes no sense It just appears It affected all devices at the same time All my fav games are unplayable(it's not minecraft only sadly)
I just realised this only ever happens to games you play for a while at least from my experience, I used to have this only on minecraft months ago, after I changed game for months I no longer have the issue and I now have roblox's error 277 which is the exact same scenario, but minecraft *no longer has the issue* , I just launched minecraft to check, odd.
Maby some driver, hardwere or combination of both can cause this issue. I think that this issue is routing hardwere algorithm malfunction in some specific sytuation. I now from my experience that algorytm can go wild in most random and unbelievable moments.
@@Aaron11227 it doesn't make sense for it to stay like that for years, I am surprised minecraft is even working again for me just for another game to break
It used to happen to me, I blamed it on bad internet since I live in Europe. I was surprised when my old laptop broke and the new one had little to no lag. I had gotten so used to floating in the void when joining servers several times in the row.
Yeah, I know this issue. Same deal, Australian, good internet, etc. What fixed it for me was going into cmd and checking "Netsh int tcp". It gives a list of some parameters but the one that fixed it was "Recieve Window Auto-Tuning Level'. Typing in "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal' sets it to normal if it was labelled as Disabled or Restricted. There's also 'netsh interface tcp show heuristics' also showing a list of settings with the important one being "Windows Scaling heuristics", some cases it should already be disabled but if it isn't then "netsh interface tcp set heuristics disabled" disables it. These two settings made elytra flying possible again for me on the servers I joined (highest spike would be like 300 ping compared to the 1000's to 10000's I was getting).
The idea of letting your viewers solve a problem is great one, since you already have experience and you can guide them, and the viewers providing the manpower issues like this could be solved more efficiently.
1- go to the terminal and look at the java version. 2- allow javabianry to go thru firewall. 3- look at the MTU. 4- look in your wifi router's terminal whenever the issue occurs (might be an auto ban of the server Minecraft is trying to connect to) 5- pray 🙏!
Could it be a problem with MTU size? Maybe Minecraft's network routines are choking on a ton of tiny split packets (Or conversely large chunky packets that a modern computer can handle. Assuming that they aren't dropped or split up by the routers along the path to the server.)? Which could've been exacerbated by the larger data size in the update that increased the world depth. It might also explain why the most direct path or connection to the server as possible doesn't have the same problems. It's possible that either the MTU is changed by the program automatically or that the routing problem on the way to the server caused by the MTU is being bypassed entirely.
The fact that the network chokes only under high load makes me 90% sure it's MTU as well. Diagnosing exactly where it occurs is a bit harder, but I'm sure it's MTU.
It might also be a good idea to look into an overzealous firewall or antivirus program either on your computer or through your ISP. If it sees a ton of sudden network traffic or requests at once (With potentially malformed packets.), it might class it as a Denial of Service attempt and drop the connection entirely.
This may and may not be the MTU size issue. Generally, it's more complicated than that. As you may know, it's set to 1500 by default on most of the computers, and higher we go then the lag processing the PDU is higher and I don't think that's the issue here because if that didn't happen before, I don't think someone was that stupid to break it on ISP end. I'm aiming for the TCP/UDP Checksum Offload, which ISPs fail to properly implement on their end, causing stuff like this. VPNs generally have their settings because it goes via their own driver but, Checksum Offload is like a known issue to cause problems like this and I would disable it and check if it fixes anything. If not, I would also check if Cloudflare WARP improves the situation a little
Update after the discord: Turns out it was Windows network settings being set weird, I can only assume the default settings were changed in a Windows update, the LLM explanation below: The commands netsh interface tcp set global rss=enabled and netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal are used to configure network settings on Windows systems. 'netsh interface tcp set global rss=enabled': This command enables Receive Side Scaling (RSS) on your network interfaces. RSS is a network load balancing method used to distribute network receive processing across multiple CPUs in a multiprocessor system. This can improve the performance of network-intensive applications by allowing them to take advantage of multiple processors 23. 'netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal': This command sets the TCP receive window autotuning level to "normal". The Receive Window Auto-Tuning feature in Windows helps to optimize the performance of network connections. When set to "normal", the system will automatically adjust the size of the receive window based on network conditions to maximize throughput and minimize latency. This is the default setting in Windows 10 and Windows 11, and it is generally recommended for most users 123. These commands are typically used to improve network performance, especially in scenarios where network traffic is high or when there are compatibility issues with older network hardware or software. Since this was a networking issue and not a processing issue (Since the laptop ran just fine) I assume it was the second command that was broken, as you can see it's set to normal by default, so an update or some program MUST have borked it, perhaps ExitLag was also switching this setting on and off?
I feel you. A month ago I needed to restart my computer EVERY DAY to play multiplayer. But one day it just stopped 🤔. And I can’t play multiplayer with Lunar Client.
1.Try making a vinilla server to see if its a plugin causing something 2. Try seeing if its a mod/program you have on your computer (try using task manger to see ur wifi activity) 3. Try looking up your PC parts for known issuse's (like network adapter, motherboard, etc) Edit: 100 likes under 50 mins, Thx guys.
my thoughts immediately go to the difference between the other computers and the shitty old laptop, it doesnt have a graphics card. also looking though the actual packets minecrtaft sends may be really useful
If possible you should also try bringing your PC and/or your laptops to a friend or family members house, that could let you narrow it down to an internet problem or a hardware problem. Some easier things to consider are: have you tried wireless connections on your main PC? In rare circumstances an ethernet connection can make connection worse overall even if its faster. Have you looked through your firewall settings? With only the oldest laptop working its possible that a firewall setting is messing up the more modern setting. Finally have you tried using network cards/are you using a network card now or a connection inbuilt into your motherboard? I think this is a little less likely considering 2 wired PCs and 1 wireless laptop are all having problems but its certainly worth a try once you go through all your other options.
I can think of a few things. Seeing as it is an issue on newer devices. Were all the devices running windows 11 that had the issue? Second, probably some issue with drives might need to reinstall those. Have you tried reinstalling the MC client/looking into the settings on the client. Third and last. Router settings/contacting ISP. At least with the newer isp in canada. Specifically Shaw, they have programs to automate router settings and such and sometimes it causes issues so if your ISP is doing the same thing they could see the spike in data and try to essentially throttle your connection to limit the damage. Posssibly some kind of DDoS protection or something similar.
1 minute in and I can tell it's most likely an ISP routing issue. When this happens next, grab your phone and teather it with mobile data on - disconnect from your router when it connects and you'll probably find it'll start working fine(ish, expect ~400 ping considering mobile data and all). Furthermore, if you're with Telstra then it's telstra. They rate limit by 70% exactly both down and up - I lived literally
@@alexblackburn2247 Yes, but if it is the same ISP that provides internet to both his phone 4G/5G and his ethernet, then the same packet routing issue occurs since it is the ISP that choses the "path" of the internet connection for every of their clients
I've never experienced this myself, but when I tried hosting a server on my network, everyone had similar issues. The only way I could """fix""" it was by shrinking the render range a ton. The problem seems to be that the game doesn't like sending large amounts of chunk data over slow internet connections. It got far, FAR worse when the caves and cliffs update was introduced, due to the chunks getting a lot bigger.
I actually didn't think this was happening to anybody else, this happens to me all the time, and I don't know what to do, glad to know someone else is experiencing this, maybe minecraft will take note of this, and fix this horrible issue.
I had a similar problem. I had so many network issues from google pages taking 30 minutes to load to constantly timing out on every server. No matter how many times I reset my network connection. Yesterday I updated windows and all of those problems.
If "Exit lag" works by looking for the quickest connection route then it could have something to do with your computer sending the packets through an inefficient route to get to the destination sever. As data would have to travel through multiple severs to get to the destination sever. Meaning if the data was going through many unnecessary severs or long distances it would slow down. this might be an issue but I don't know how to fix or if this could actually happen .
I had experienced this when I connect to USA servers and areas are built up, while underwater cables were damaged going up from bottom of Africa to Europe, so even connection to Europe servers were terrible. It could also be the time of day when a ton of people is at home and on the internet in your area. Can be a software malfunction in your modem and need an update. Sometimes they don’t update automatically.
There's a fabric mod called Krypton have you tried it, it optimizes whole networking stack of Minecraft and possibly fixes this issue, or at least makes it a bit better.
I have this issue and it's absolutely TERRIBLE to go through, I've been trying to fix it for the last like 2 years to no avail, and it seems no one else has this issue. I'm so glad you brought this up and I'm hoping someone actually can fix this
I had a similar problem. I had so many network issues from google pages taking 30 minutes to load to constantly timing out on every server. No matter how many times I reset my network connection. Yesterday I updated windows and all of those problems.
Ive had the same issue when travelling abroad and connecting to my private server at home, my fix was a mod/plugin called raknetify which implements the raknet engine into Minecraft's network code. It made things much smoother but I dont think it would play nice with larger servers since its in alpha and you also need the mod clientside to get the improved network speed.
This is related to the amount of data that your internet connection has to process in order for it to display an up to date image to you. More data = higher delay (ping). I have this often, but that is because my maximum download is around 5Mb/s and doing absolutely anything while trying to play any game online creates an annoying bottleneck. For you tho, it seems to be a hardware related issue? Update/reinstall your network drivers, check any cables and connections, check your network related settings including the adapter settings and firewall settings. Check your antivirus for any sign of it scanning through your internet traffick as that usually slows it down massively. Check for any active VPNs. Check if the issue persists in other games. If it does, the in most likely isn't Minecrafts fault. Maybe even try calling your ISP to check if they have any restrictions in place? It is either related to Minecraft or some other piece of software just deciding not to work properly (Test and use elimination to try and determine the culprit.), some setting in the adapter/networking/firewall settings, your ISP, or your hardware. Best of luck!
try setting up a virtual machine with a new windows instance(latest update), download minecraft and try for a bit, if it doesnt happen it might be due to outdated/faulty network adapter drivers.
If you have multiple users in your discord with similar issues you might do a hardware survey and see if there are any common parts or brands. mobo, cpu, ram, networking card and brand (built in or dedicated), also router type and max frame sizes like someone else suggested.
Encountered this issue only one time when connecting to a specific server. I suggest running a traceroute to affected server ips. My issue was a spectrum datacenter in ohio being funky. Using a vpn fixed my issue as it routed my traffic differently (modded servers 1.12 worked fine, however when they ran a 1.18-1.19 server it was extremely laggy, similar to what you are experiencing. What I gathered from the traceroute, might be incorrect, is that is what running my packets through an email service server.). For affected users have them run the traceroute as well and see if there's a common jump point where it takes a lot longer or just times out in the traceroute. There is sadly no other client side fix besides vpn or changing the traffic route. You could try and contacting your isp about it, but I don't think they can do much. Another thing that might help is a new router, but not a guaranteed fix.
1. Try turning off your pcs fire wall 2. Switch components see if it helps 3. Do you have similar ping for other games? If that’s the case your computers wireless antenna or Ethernet connection could be faulty 4. If your using wireless use Ethernet if Ethernet use wireless 5. Mess around with advanced wifi settings see what you can find 6. Use phone hot spot
I don't even have a Fibre internet cable and live in a rural part of NZ playing on servers is an atrocious experience. And when i used to play hypixel skyblock i would randomly fall through the ground when farming or doing anything really that put a losd on the server like switching lobbies, but this is on 1.8.9 so i dunno wheter it could be related to the problem you are having mister epic
Since not all pc's are effected swapping motherboards might help, since that is where the networking hardware is located physically in a computer. To try and isolate the problem from the networking hardware you could get a usb wifi dongle and try with that. A crucial troubleshooting step would be to try and isolate the problem from your specific internet connection since the packet routing program seemed to help. Take your computer (one that suffers from the problem) to a different house or internet cafe and see if the same computer produces the same issue with a different connection. If the same computer produces the problem on multiple connections, you should try running a virtual machine and try to play minecraft inside of the vm. If this solves the problem then a clean windows install could also do so.
I had this exact issue for years when I was a kid (except for the fact that I could fly whenever this happened as if I were in creative mode for some reason). My PC with an ethernet cable had this issue, but a laptop using WIFI didn't have any issues. The more plugins the server had meant higher the chances of "Connection Lost" happening for me, so I would try to find vanilla servers with basic plugins then I could play without any connection issues. This was back when Minecraft 1.7 was the latest version. I usually didn't have any connection issues in other games, which made me think the issue was related to my old router AND Minecraft as well. I no longer have this issue after buying a new router/PC (can't remember which one was the problem)
to me it sounds like maybe your isp is giving you a really bad Network Route. you could try doing a route trace and see if you have some bad hops and maybe you could talk to your isp about it
Have you tried different Java runtimes or running it in a Linux VM/install? Have you checked if this is somehow related to the max system memory? Your old device sounds like it would have the least amount, perhaps it’s even 32 bit still? Have you tried asking a friend who has a known-good device to visit you to check if your network also breaks their system? Did you check package loss and jitter? System logs? Any unexpected datapoint could make diagnosing the problem easier.
Solving this kind of network problem nearly requies broot force, as far as we know it could be anything, Starting at the server, routing, isp, drivers, hardware, mcs network implimrntation, etc.
have you found a fix i have just got it and i live in the middle of nowhere in the region of africa i used to get 150/200 ms avg now i get 300ms for some reason
ive also had this issue. i have managed to figure out that its at its worst when people are updating steam or other games. the issue seems to have lessened in severity when I switched to a new computer but this is an expensive solution and doesn't fix it entirely. edit for clarification: the ping issue also occurs at its worst when other people on the same internet as me are updating games. its really weird because other than the same internet connection there is nothing connecting the devices.
Are you this dumb by yourself or is somebody holding your hand? 🤦♂️ Your ping goes up when others download on the same network because their download uses up most of the bandwidth, leaving your device with not too much of it...
Well that makes sense, your internet "speed" is a bit of a misleading term, the proper term would be bandwidth. A good analogy would be to compare it to water going through a pipe. It's not so much how fast water flows through the pipe, but rather how much water goes through the pipe at once. So if you're playing Minecraft while other people on the same connection are downloading things, they're also clogging up the pipe, making it so that your game is laggier. While he didn't address this as a possible cause, it doesn't look like this is causing his issues.
I would check ports because you could have a bad setting receiving data packets incorrectly(this can be a general computer issue, it has been a while since I messed with ports). Or, the issue is because the packets aren't being transmitted correctly (since you used exitlag to find faster routing). Curious: tried Starlink? Because it is quite possible to resolve this issue by changing routing methods based on the paid solution you found. It would require changing internet provider.
I would try to: On Windows, go to Device Manager -> Network adapter -> Locate your network adapter, right click and choose Properties -> under the Properties Panel go to Advanced. There you will have many options you can try, I would look out if: Jumbo Packets aren't activated -> Activate and try different sizes if applicable Green-Ethernet is Activated by default -> Deactivate such "green" options Power Saving Mode could be Active -> Set to deactivated Those a common options, but I would look up each option to see if there is one you could try.
as someone who knows a little bit about hardware, if it only persists on one device or a select few, it might be a problem with the hardware in the effected devices. you might want to look into replace or swapping computer parts until it eventually works. it might help to also re install Minecraft on a fresh storage drive with nothing else on it, including mods. this might be all caused because of some new things added in the Minecraft update. dont rely only on this only however, im no expert in hardware or software, i just know some things.
I've had this issue with using Spectrum and AT&T's basic Router/Modem's that they use. Once I upgraded to a Router/Modem that wasn't from those companies, it worked perfectly fine.
seems like this is some kind of messy packet bug that hapen in 1.17 development but its so rare that mojang devs overlooked at,hopefully mojang notice this and/or someone in this comunity find its fix. i also hapen exoeriencing same issue as of recently on some selected servers
My best guess is the newest update to the Minecraft launcher UI has changed in which they had added quick play, although this is good for convenience it can cause problems with other versions such as corrupted files and so on. This would require a fresh reinstall of the game and make sure to save the server IP's you enjoy on a notepad so you don't have to go hunting for the servers once more
Yo I’ve been experiencing somewhat the same thing on lunar client, but basically it doesnt let me join servers with my ping and mine sometimes reaches 1500 ping on servers and it kicks me and sometimes bans me because of my ping. Not too sure of the problem but i may have an idea of how to help here’s what to do 1. Re start ur computer check your ram and delete any unneeded files to clear more space for minecraft, restate obs and close down mc and obs and anything else like curseforge you may use 2. Turn your computer off for at least 1 day and once you come back on wait for everything to restore for normal ( dO NOT start it straight away ( minecraft or obs) as that can lead to further lag,) . 3. After a while open minecraft and obs log onto your account and then log off, wait for a while before re starting and logging back into your account , make sure everything is re freashed 4. I think what might be happening is that newer Operating Systems might deal with connections differently (I don't have any evidence for that being the case) where they might send one request and make sure a server exists/can respond before proceeding with more requests. ExitLag would basically shorten the time it takes for a computer to make sure a server exists by acting as a server and thereby trick the computer into sending more requests.
I'm not gonna rewatch the video to see but he says what router he switched to and I'm pretty much certain it's not a combo If he's using a combo and a new router then he's gotta make sure to set that correctly in the settings of the combo device and my point stll stands
Finally, someone else with the same issue. I have done literally everything online, nothing worked. It is pain I can't tell you what can fix it, but I can say what didn't: I have tried restarting my computer, my wifi, and my game. I tried using a google dns server, checking my network configuration, updating AND replacing my drivers, using a vpn, updating AND replacing Java on my computer, and changing my render distance. I tried flushing the dns, but I got a lot of error codes that I believe may have something to do with it. I have checked if I may just have a virus, although I am not sure where I would have got it. I did a basic windows scan and nothing came up, so I just hope it isn't that. I have tried using a hotspot and ethernet, I disabled windows firewall and whitelisted minecraft. I have tried using more ram, less ram, buying new ram, none of which worked. This issue seems to currently affect both Minecraft and lethal company, for whatever reason. While my internet may not be the best, it certainly should be able to run what I need it to, and my computer is actually fairly decent. Also, I am American. This is not just an Australian thing. I have had no mods installed as well as mods installed to try and fix it.
I've been having problems with the javaSocketException error almosy ever since I started playing on servers (2023), and there was a window of days where I got it 100% of the time, till I somehow fixed it. The worst part is that, when looking for the error, there's basically no true way of fixing it. Honestly, the culprit behind all of this is Minecraft Java's horrible spaghetti code and dogwater (if existing at all) optimization. It's time we get a bug-fix update, instead of another run of the mill two-gimmick mobs + one almost useless structure.
I had similar problems a couple years ago. I couldnt join any server longer than 10 minutes without getting timed out. This was pre-1.17, so a lot of things that made Minecraft laggy later on didnt exist. Once i moved rooms literal feet from where i was, i had no more issues. I was right next to the router now. I was thinking, for myself, that how I connected to the router was blocked by my desk, since my pc isnt exactly in the open. If mine was due to connection to my internet, maybe any VPN could be hurting the experience
this is very much a hardware problem, i dont know specifics, but i think the problems seem similar to when you allocate to much ram to minecraft, your pc is probably to good, and one part of it is probably not handling minecraft, i recomend bringing your pc in to like a pc repair shop of some kind, so they can troubleshoot which part is causing problems and they can recomend you a replacement
This issue started for me in version 1.13, and it has escalated in version 1.20.4. The reason is that Minecraft sends numerous unnecessary packets for various actions, particularly with entities. My friends and I had an SMP Minecraft server, and one of our friends experienced severe lag, reaching 5000MS, and would disconnect after just 3 seconds when near the mob farms.
My friend had this problem. He could only play with render distance 2. The problem was that his internet speed was good to the nearest server, but slow to the farther ones. Try checking the speed to the city where the server is hosted on speedtest. The techs solved this problem, but I don't know how. Maybe speed to distant servers is part of the solution.
bro thats not a problem thats normal. the closer you are to a server, the faster you can communicate with it. also this is not the same problem he was having.
Wouldn't the connection not happen at all if it were to be a firewall issue? The Windows firewall shouldn't be butting in after the connection has already started. Also, the issue would persist across all Minecraft versions as well if the firewall were to be causing havoc. In the video, the game version matters.
this genuinely sounds like a processor problem/ a java compiler bug as its not consistent at all. there is a known list of CPUs and wireless cards that are considered to be incompatible with Minecraft in general. those look like the 11gen i9 CPUs and up as well as some newer and even random faulty CPUs from amd and even some amd gpu's as well( actually adds up with nvidia being an investor and all) i would also check your mtu packet size and whether you have large packets turned on on your pc. both of those can help potentially. best case is looking up the error, not under Minecraft but under the java distributable as it will reveal much more technical info as well as actual possible fixes
I used to have this SAME issue with my ISP when connecting to Overwatch servers around its release, i fixed it using WTFast or some other bs program. Then, my ISP provided router updated once and it got fixed. I work as a game tester, and when we have a version of this issue in-office, it's usually our DMZ shitting the bed. Now this returned to me about six months ago, with an optic fiber connection. The last leg of the cable was very bent due to bad positioning, and that meant i got packet loss and ping during teamfights
Have you tried checking your MTU? Maybe for some reason your computer is unable to handle larger data frames or more smaller ones leaving & entering. Try setting your MTU value to 0 (unlimited) & compare it with different other values between 100 & 1400. It could be that the VPN you tried somehow forced your computer to use differently sized frames that your NIC was about to handle more efficiently. Have you had this issue with other games that require large amounts of data to be transferred?
This is not a Mojang problem but this is an ISP problem. I too have been affected by this bug. What I have found to be effective is rerouting your connection with a VPN.
I have oddly specific issues that have never been documented on the internet before, I absolutely have to reinstall Windows but I don't know how much of a hassle that's going to be so I've never done it. What you're doing could be a driver issue that's so oddly specific and ingrained to your instance of Windows that you gotta reinstall...?
Try getting a new ssd and put new widows installation on it and then replace it in your pc to see if it’s something wrong with your files or windows settings or something and then go from there
@@nevemlaci I’m not trying to get the $200 just thought that might help, there’s also plenty of things that can change on a pc, especially over the course of years if you keep the same ssd. It could even be possible that having a specific background app open could be causing this…getting a new ssd would just rule out the possibility of it being some internet connection/hardware issue with his pc
As someone in Europe who had issues like these that just for now went away I hope the same happens for your issues. I tried researching Cubecraft (the server where they began), noticed failed packets everywhere, also small framerate drops, router connected to pc with cable, but stable 200fps PC nay, sometimes 500fps, yet had better tps on laptop. Very strange. I noticed also a lot of entities which I thought were kind of doing that? Like I had connection lags in lobbies and when dying, I noticed issues with all entities dropping from 0 to 500 but then it kinda just disappeared. Oh and on the server /ping brought me like, 22k ping lol
Australia has some weird laws when it comes to ISP's iirc. It could be that your ISP is detecting the packets as anomalous and is limiting them or outright blocking them for whatever reason. I'd suggest trying a VPN that supports changing packet sizes (called MTU in privateinternetaccess) and see if that also fixes the issue. My guess as to why Exitlag works is because it resizes packets. My guess to why your ancient laptop doesn't have the issue is that it's too slow to receive and send packets at such a rate. I obviously can't test any of this though because I don't live in kangaroo land. Solution is to complain to your ISP and probably get nowhere or just switch ISP's to Starlink or something.
So yes, heres the situation. $200 to the first person who can solve this problem

You could also try being connected directly to the furthest router (the one closest to your fibre box, adsl box, etc)
When a packet is too large for a device it should just be rejected.
I think you're right
Remember, he took a MTU test and had good results with that!
@@ThtSchoolHecker clearly that test can't possibly test every single possible route. Some node out there might just drop packets larger than his MTU, hence why the problem appears on some servers more than others

1:19 Lmao, the wither I left trapped next to davo, advertising me undercutting their prices, is now featured in a video... wonderful!
@@cookiesrgud1935 He already got a new router, A fancy Asus router.
It’s sounds like Minecraft is only designed with single port in mind (this makes sense as Notch developed servers with the community and probably didn’t need or even think about multi-port functionality), which would back up this theory. This would make it very possible to have the same issue with a new router as one port can only do so much on its own. The reason I think the low end laptop worked it because it’s a.) putting less strain on the port because it’s requesting less graphical and computational data; b.) has built in forced multi port; c.) or Minecraft has different port handling for different device builds and configurations

1. Boot a live linux and see if the issue persists. If it does, its likely a hardware issue.
2. Use a different java versions and implementations aka openjdk or openj9.
3. Check any software that might change your network settings eg. firewall, vpn etc. and try to reset to defaults

this is what i was thinking. someone beat me to it.
Yall we gotta comment so Epic sees it
minecraft uses TCP? yikes. I thought it would be UDP. Explains why the servers get destroyed when so many people are conntecting and might actually be a route cause for this issue, considering with every minecraft version, more data packets will likekly be needed per second to handle everything on TCP.
On discord they fixed the issue, tcp was indeed an issue/the issue. A guy found a reddit thread to fix it using netsh commands.
so it’s a “fuck you let’s use a different thing than” problem

I experience this same issue! For me, it's at about 30% of servers I try to play... Which is way too much!

A good start would be to check for packet loss % based on load size. Packet loss should spike once you exceed a certain size.
If not, I would also check if Cloudflare WARP improves the situation a little
The issue could potentially be MTU size, didn't think of that at first. I was thinking perhaps a faulty NIC at first.
Update after the discord:
Turns out it was Windows network settings being set weird, I can only assume the default settings were changed in a Windows update, the LLM explanation below:
The commands netsh interface tcp set global rss=enabled and netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal are used to configure network settings on Windows systems.
Saw the community post, but the breakdown here of what each of those settings actually do is great. Thanks!
Thank you for explaining what the settings do, this helped me too!

He tried that
He said he already tried using his phone as a hot spot. I had the same issue, except it only happens on minecraft realms for some reason.
But Telstra wouldn't make sense, because his cheapass $400 laptop runs it "just fine".
@typeguard I guess on the $400 has a lower render distance and thus only smaller amounts of packets are sent
@@alexblackburn2247 Yes, but if it is the same ISP that provides internet to both his phone 4G/5G and his ethernet, then the same packet routing issue occurs since it is the ISP that choses the "path" of the internet connection for every of their clients

Nah
That's when the video ends
I live in Aus, I’m pretty much fine. Mostly.
well yes, but actually no
I've never experienced this myself, but when I tried hosting a server on my network, everyone had similar issues. The only way I could """fix""" it was by shrinking the render range a ton. The problem seems to be that the game doesn't like sending large amounts of chunk data over slow internet connections. It got far, FAR worse when the caves and cliffs update was introduced, due to the chunks getting a lot bigger.
ive been having this issue for MONTHS, thanks for posting a video about this
I actually didn't think this was happening to anybody else, this happens to me all the time, and I don't know what to do, glad to know someone else is experiencing this, maybe minecraft will take note of this, and fix this horrible issue.
I had a similar problem. I had so many network issues from google pages taking 30 minutes to load to constantly timing out on every server. No matter how many times I reset my network connection. Yesterday I updated windows and all of those problems.
@@auggeythecatdang, sometimes my pages take like a minute to load cause of my internet being really bad.
I used to have this issue a few years ago, and thats when i really got into modded singleplayer. it basically lasted until i got a different pc
There's a fabric mod called Krypton have you tried it, it optimizes whole networking stack of Minecraft and possibly fixes this issue, or at least makes it a bit better.

It might be interesting to see a Wireshark trace of your connection to the server in these scenarios and see if some variable changes.
try setting up a virtual machine with a new windows instance(latest update), download minecraft and try for a bit, if it doesnt happen it might be due to outdated/faulty network adapter drivers.
And the vm will still access the internet through that same adapter...
@@nevemlaci It would not rule out hardware, yes, but it would still rule out software issues. Windows can be stupid.

Lmao that was quick
Ive been having this issue for ages too, since 2021-2022, and its actually REALLY annoying, frustrating, cant wait for a solution!
Another thing that might help is a new router, but not a guaranteed fix.
yeah i was thinking the same thing id say do a tracer and then contact his isp and see if they can do anything
1. Try turning off your pcs fire wall
2. Switch components see if it helps
3. Do you have similar ping for other games? If that’s the case your computers wireless antenna or Ethernet connection could be faulty
4. If your using wireless use Ethernet if Ethernet use wireless
5. Mess around with advanced wifi settings see what you can find
6. Use phone hot spot
I don't even have a Fibre internet cable and live in a rural part of NZ playing on servers is an atrocious experience.
And when i used to play hypixel skyblock i would randomly fall through the ground when farming or doing anything really that put a losd on the server like switching lobbies, but this is on 1.8.9 so i dunno wheter it could be related to the problem you are having mister epic
you know its bad when a server owner can not connect to their own server
My PC with an ethernet cable had this issue,
but a laptop using WIFI didn't have any issues.
Solving this kind of network problem nearly requies broot force, as far as we know it could be anything,
Starting at the server, routing, isp, drivers, hardware, mcs network implimrntation, etc.
I’ve been having this issue as well. It was really sudden as well, since the start of this year.
Hopefully we can find a solid fix for this issue-
have you found a fix i have just got it and i live in the middle of nowhere in the region of africa i used to get 150/200 ms avg now i get 300ms for some reason
ive also had this issue. i have managed to figure out that its at its worst when people are updating steam or other games. the issue seems to have lessened in severity when I switched to a new computer but this is an expensive solution and doesn't fix it entirely.
edit for clarification: the ping issue also occurs at its worst when other people on the same internet as me are updating games. its really weird because other than the same internet connection there is nothing connecting the devices.
Are you this dumb by yourself or is somebody holding your hand? 🤦♂️
Your ping goes up when others download on the same network because their download uses up most of the bandwidth, leaving your device with not too much of it...
My friend had this issue and could never fix it. Good to know someone else has it. He kept complaining about his newer versions not working.
He posted the fix on his community page, its a few windows commands and it fixed his problem
I would try to:
On Windows, go to Device Manager -> Network adapter -> Locate your network adapter, right click and choose Properties -> under the Properties Panel go to Advanced.
There you will have many options you can try, I would look out if:
Jumbo Packets aren't activated -> Activate and try different sizes if applicable
Green-Ethernet is Activated by default -> Deactivate such "green" options
Power Saving Mode could be Active -> Set to deactivated
Those a common options, but I would look up each option to see if there is one you could try.
as someone who knows a little bit about hardware, if it only persists on one device or a select few, it might be a problem with the hardware in the effected devices. you might want to look into replace or swapping computer parts until it eventually works. it might help to also re install Minecraft on a fresh storage drive with nothing else on it, including mods. this might be all caused because of some new things added in the Minecraft update. dont rely only on this only however, im no expert in hardware or software, i just know some things.
I've had this issue with using Spectrum and AT&T's basic Router/Modem's that they use. Once I upgraded to a Router/Modem that wasn't from those companies, it worked perfectly fine.

but its so rare that mojang devs overlooked at,hopefully mojang notice this and/or someone in this comunity find its fix. i also hapen exoeriencing same issue as of recently on some selected servers
It's because of migration to Java 17.
My best guess is the newest update to the Minecraft launcher UI has changed in which they had added quick play, although this is good for convenience it can cause problems with other versions such as corrupted files and so on. This would require a fresh reinstall of the game and make sure to save the server IP's you enjoy on a notepad so you don't have to go hunting for the servers once more
copy servers.dat and servers.dat.old or something instead from the .minecraft directory
Yo I’ve been experiencing somewhat the same thing on lunar client, but basically it doesnt let me join servers with my ping and mine sometimes reaches 1500 ping on servers and it kicks me and sometimes bans me because of my ping. Not too sure of the problem but i may have an idea of how to help here’s what to do
1. Re start ur computer check your ram and delete any unneeded files to clear more space for minecraft, restate obs and close down mc and obs and anything else like curseforge you may use
2. Turn your computer off for at least 1 day and once you come back on wait for everything to restore for normal ( dO NOT start it straight away ( minecraft or obs) as that can lead to further lag,) .
3. After a while open minecraft and obs log onto your account and then log off, wait for a while before re starting and logging back into your account , make sure everything is re freashed
4. Open minecraft and see how much you’re ping is on your servers and if its really bad check your internet but its never rly your internet that’s the problem
5. Refresh your servers and maybe try download a client like lunar which can hugely improve peoples ping like mine
If none of this works can i still have 200 dollars im broke D:. Also because your Australian it might just be a problem with your country you live in, also just move to England or America fr
You tried a different router but what about your modem? If something like a proxy or vpn helped then it sounds like it's your network
His router is most likely a router modem combo like the majority. The one he showed a picture of in the video was definitely one.
I'm not gonna rewatch the video to see but he says what router he switched to and I'm pretty much certain it's not a combo
If he's using a combo and a new router then he's gotta make sure to set that correctly in the settings of the combo device and my point stll stands

@@jasonls221 It turned out to be 2 TCP settings in Windows. Though it is suspected to only be a hotfix.
Finally, someone else with the same issue. I have done literally everything online, nothing worked. It is pain
I can't tell you what can fix it, but I can say what didn't:
I have tried restarting my computer, my wifi, and my game.
It's time we get a bug-fix update, instead of another run of the mill two-gimmick mobs + one almost useless structure.

this is very much a hardware problem, i dont know specifics, but i think the problems seem similar to when you allocate to much ram to minecraft, your pc is probably to good, and one part of it is probably not handling minecraft, i recomend bringing your pc in to like a pc repair shop of some kind, so they can troubleshoot which part is causing problems and they can recomend you a replacement
Might be firewall issues. The firewall checks all the packets your PC receives and sends.
Add Minecraft to your inbound and outbound rules.
Wouldn't the connection not happen at all if it were to be a firewall issue? The Windows firewall shouldn't be butting in after the connection has already started.
Also, the issue would persist across all Minecraft versions as well if the firewall were to be causing havoc. In the video, the game version matters.
This happens to my friend when he joins our modded server that I run myself. We can play vanilla but he still times out sometimes.
this genuinely sounds like a processor problem/ a java compiler bug as its not consistent at all. there is a known list of CPUs and wireless cards that are considered to be incompatible with Minecraft in general. those look like the 11gen i9 CPUs and up as well as some newer and even random faulty CPUs from amd and even some amd gpu's as well( actually adds up with nvidia being an investor and all) i would also check your mtu packet size and whether you have large packets turned on on your pc. both of those can help potentially. best case is looking up the error, not under Minecraft but under the java distributable as it will reveal much more technical info as well as actual possible fixes
"dont make me time your connection to life out" 💀💀💀💀💀
I used to have this SAME issue with my ISP when connecting to Overwatch servers around its release, i fixed it using WTFast or some other bs program.
What you're doing could be a driver issue that's so oddly specific and ingrained to your instance of Windows that you gotta reinstall...?
try changing fastmath or fast render in minecraft setting or other options in the category
