Climate emergency plans suck…when they don’t also address women’s needs

  • Even though women make half of the population, most climate policies are completely gender-blind. Women don‘t just need a roof above their head and something to eat. They also need to have menstrual products, contraceptives and access to a health facility in case they are pregnant.
    When they don‘t, they end up having health issues, unintended pregnancies, miscarriages and in extreme cases delivering their babies on a road side. In my interview with Pakistani women‘s and climate justice activist Ayesha Amin, who witnesssed the impacts of deadly floods in 2022, we talk about ways in which governments can prepare more women-friendly climate action plans.
