Although this quote is certainly rather silly, he's not entirely wrong (ironically) when it comes to the idea of 'destroying future discoveries'. Some archeologists are concerned that sites being excavated today might be better excavated in the future using better technology. Think of what we can do today that we couldn't do a few decades ago (ground-penetrating radar, DNA forensics, etc). By unearthing artifacts with today's 'primitive' technologies, we may be destroying evidence that we don't even know exists - evidence that we could save and study in the future. At many important dig sites, areas are now being intentionally set aside and left untouched for future analysis.
