      Also, just a random bit of Trivia: Before 'Cybernetics' became synonymous with protheses in colloquial english, in the Soviet Union and it's sphere of influence, the term used to refer to a branch of economics dedicated to research how to emulate the organic feedback-mechanisms that make market-economies a functional economic model through early computer simulation. The theory that emerged was that computers could improve on that by extrapolating from current data to automatically adjust production-quotas to prevent imminent issues. Cybernetics originally refers to the study of regulatory systems as a concept. That line of research got defunded due to factional rivalries in the early Brezhnev years.

    If you think about it, the separatists droids had a really tragic history. In the newest episode of clone wars, order 66 happens and Ahsoka calls some astromechs for help. They lock a door, but the clones begin "lockpicking" it with a little tool that fits in the exact same place that the astromechs locked it.
      I guess that the astromech probing tools are very versatile and serve as both mechanical and electronic general purpose manipulators.

    • @radioactivegrass1919
      @radioactivegrass1919 4 ปีที่แล้ว +100

      The tool R2 uses for those ports is called a "Scomp link" it serves as a way for droids communicate with machinery and transfer data.
      In rouge one we saw that K2 (a reprogrammed imperial security droid) was equipped with one of these tools. This probably explains why the empire had so many of the ports around.

    With general grievous being a hate figure, how were cyborgs treated post clone wars - and was their a double standard between those with a artificial limb and those with far more extensive replacements… and how did Vader fit in with this.
    What would have happened with he Vong if anti droid prejudice was so extreme that there was a complete ban post Clone Wars? ("sorry R2" … [sound of shutdown buttons being pressed as a sad beep fades).

      Considering most Imperial citizens were unaware of Vader's existence and that the extent of his cybernetics was likely completely unknown to even the most elite in the Empire, its unlikely anyone would have an prejudices against him. And considering that cybernetics seems to be fairly common (Lobot and other Imperial Monitors.) its unlikely there was a large amount of animosity against people w/cybernetics. They may have been viewed with suspicious, but not outright animosity. Its also likely that most people werent even aware that Grevious was a cyborg and not an super intelligent tactical droid.

      Well the bad writing of the clone wars TV show often depicts the separatist as irredeemably evil because we can't handle nuance, just flashy visuals and fan service with plothole wriddled writing and incompetent villains.
      In actuality and the films. The separatists are a justified and Noble cause. With the Republic attacking first in the clone war. the Battle of geonosis was Republic prisoners being arrested for murder after breaking into a genotian factory to rescue a spy, killing countless workers and security forces. Resisting arrest and refusing to cooperate.
      The Jedi sent a large and reckless strike team to slaughter inhabitants of an arena and attack the separatist leadership, losing most of their group and declaring war on the separatists formally. Leading their army of slave child soldiers bred to die in a frontal charge with no cover on a horrible desert planet dying in Mass.
      The Republic continued the war despite their inferior numbers, massive debt and economy that wouldn't have lasted a prolonged conflict along with the separatists simply being able to win a battle of attrition due to their Superior numbers and Mass production.
      The separatists just wanted independence. Sith interference made both sides incredibly villainous to an extent but it wasn't black and white like the TV show depicts.even listening to the theme songs it's pretty clear the Republic are the villains of the clone war. Not to mention shooting their leaders in the back and changing history after the separatist army is deactivated.
      With all of the leaders being slaughtered after surrendering and their corporations absorbed by the empire.
      Long story short the Confederacy was a justified cause and in the right of the clone war
      Not only that but the Confederate population undoubtedly saw people like general grievous and count dooku as heroes. Their versions of Anakin and Obi-Wan, tactical geniuses and heroes of the front line. Grievous was probably a separatist war hero and depending on the planet would change your view of him.

    I kinda think the Empire lost a lot by not utilizing the trillions of B1 droids lying around, nor using the countless factories allowing for almost-free near-unlimited supply of them. Like they could just get a lot of them, and send them in front of the stormtroopers as a distraction, due to the sheer numbers of them.
    B1 droids also did a very good job at securing already captured sectors, at a very small cost. you could deploy a lot of them on regions with high partisant activity to help patrol the area.

    • @b-chroniumproductions3177
      @b-chroniumproductions3177 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But using B1 droids would be incredibly bad PR, as plenty of Imperial citizens, officers, and troopers have bad memories of the CIS droid army.

    Since both Rebels and Separatists wanted to get rid of a corrupt political system ruling over them, and used a different array of weapons and military support do defeat their enemies, no matter the innocent lives lost (think about the Death Star) and take the control into their hands, Rebels are pretty much Separatists with plot armor. The only main differences are that the Separatists exclusive uses of battle droids, and that Rebels never really engeged the Empire in open battles like CIS did. They stick to guerilla warfare.

      Tbh I would be taking a b1 just for a house droid. Like shure I would first fucl any and all inhibitors and stuff and give it's command pack for scraps just to get it a power pack so it don't need to charge often. (Aka just giving the boi freedom in the home as I don't it would be willing to go into the streets of haters. But the short is I see how utility capable the b1s are because they are basic in form like pack it up and ship it in a gonk case. They can be sleeping a entire trip not phased. And maybe upgrade the programing for house chores so it can do the things it needs.
      Atlest I know what to do with a b1 if I ever had one in that universe as repurposing them is easy.

It's just the terrible writing of the mandalorian turning them into a walking joke that makes them seem so ineffective. Disney just has a hate boner for stormtroopers. They are far more effective than the B1 battle droid, and a squadron of Stormtroopers would stand a decent chance against mixed battle droids. In a little story I got, for Legends or Canon, a little woman called Kha'shira Putressi collected as much CIS hardware as she could get - droids, ships, entire battlefleets, vehicles, and converted one Lucrehulk into a mix of a refinery and droid factory, able to mine asteroid fields and produce anything the CIS made that can fit into the hangars, including sections of cruisers, to be fully assembled in front of the Lucrehulk ship near the main hangar entries, using the powerful tractor beam emitters to great effect.
    Due to the events in Legends or Canon (depending on which you prefer to go by), Kha has to wait with whatever plans she might have for her private, repurposed CIS assets until after the fall of the First Order in Canon OR after 130 ABY in Legends. Basically, create her own little Empire in a small part of the galaxy, the massive CIS assets she's acquired, kept building and updating to modern standards, allowing her to defend said area of the galaxy against most threats. Anything too big and she can just move somewhere else - until she's got so much war assets built up she can just launch a second war - except there's be no clone army, no military that can stand a chance.
    A new Sith Empire, with a limitless droid army!

    You didn't mention one of the best resurgences of battle droids during the Vong war. Way back even before the Old Republic, a Warlord named Xim the Despot went to war with the Hutts using Rakata force technology. These droids, while mostly primitive, still harnessed powerful energy weapons and some even had force focusing crystals to increase their intelligence and make them better tacticians. Unfortunately for Xim, this wasn't enough for him to beat the Hutts and while he was sold into slavery, vast numbers of his droid army were captured and put on display all though Hutt space, seen in palaces, parks, and city centers. Well, when the Vong attacked Hutt space, these millennia old droids reactivated, powering on and tearing a bloody swath through the unprepared and very out matched Vong army. This victory inspired Lando Calrissian and his wife to invest in creating the Vong Hunter battle droids which would go on to aid the New Republic in pushing the Vong back and eventually winning the war.
    And for anyone interested, those two alien races which devastated the Vong's home galaxy also made it to the known galaxy: one was The Great Heep, a member of the Abominor race, who was killed by R2D2 after extinguishing the furnace which sustained its life. The others were members of the Silentium race, some of which were discovered in the oceans of Mon Calamari and one of which, named Vuffi Raa, traveled the galaxy with Lando for a time.

    Great video! One problem: that line about not serving droids, had nothing to do with either the clone wars or battle droids. Read "tales of the mos eisley cantina". It explains the simple and logical reason he said that

    This vid gives me glorious flashbacks to when I played a BX Commando droid as a bounty hunter in an Edge of the Empire campaign, good times
