  • Over the past 10 years that I've been coaching, I have gone through dozen of drills to help teach the catch and pull.In artistic swimming training we use muscle memory for everything training technique over and over again to ensure we would build muscle memory. I combined freestyle drill with sculling and found that this is the perfect drill to teach the mind and the body to remember and to feel. When we become more aware of what we are doing we are able to feel more in the water and therefore adapt quicker.
    I have found this drill is one of the simplest and easiest ones to help adults learn the 3 key phases of the catch and pull while increasing their feel for the water and strength by sculling
    1. Start of the catch
    2. High elbow catch
    4. Hand exit
