.EXE tropes abound, but I’ll give it credit for having the corrupted version of Fox actually seeming to be a reluctant monster. It spends two levels warning you not to play before actually hitting you with a scare, and even after continuing past that, it seems almost impressed that you still have the nerve to keep going. Rather than basically treat you like an insect it’s going to catch eventually, it acknowledges that you are the one coming to it and decides to give you what you seemingly want. Let alone the fact that none of the other Star Fox characters are shown being affected outside of the title screen; the only one it actually does anything to is the player.
Creepypasta aside, I would really like a 60fps PC recreation of the OG starfox. The really low frame rate is what keeps me from playing the SNES original
Feels too reliant on the same .exe tropes we've seen for years, but there are some genuinely interesting ideas here, especially with how the face at the end looks way too advanced for the SNES while still seaming like it came from the 90s.
It's really well done, Randy Becker did a good job here. But as other pointed out, the tropes feel a bit tiresome at this point. I know this is supposed to be a short game, but I wish more creepypasta games would actually make use of gameplay mechanics and expectations. In this case, it could have been something like the game starting out normally, but eventually the dialogue between Fox and his team feels more and more off, until they all start turning on him and attacking him. It's not much, but it would feel like a fever-dream you'd have as a kid playing these games and I think that'd be more effective than "hyper realistic blood from a self-aware entity in the game" Hoping Randy keeps working on games like these (apparently he's considering a creepy F-Zero game?? That sounds cool) because it's evident that he has a knack for it and I wanna see where he goes!
...This feels like something that could have happened after Fox Mcloud ended up wandering Lylat, after he was abandoned by everyone in one of Star Fox Command's Worse Endings... How he ends up an EXE, I do not know, but it could be that after Fox eventually passed on aboard the Great Fox II, the Ship became Tainted by his tormented Presence, and eventually, was torn up by scrappers who wanted to make a quick buck, only to unintentionally put Fox's Soul in an even worse state of unrest by selling the tainted parts, and Fox ended up unintentionally haunting a Sizable chunk of the Lylat System, via a twisted game based on his distorted memories. ...And Fox knows how Dangerous he has become, so he tries to tell you to stop playing the game... I mean, unlike the other EXEs, Fox only attacks _AFTER_ you keep ignoring his warnings, even demanding "Do you wish to Die?!" This is unlike other EXEs, who just taunt you... Yet Fox only tells you "Stop Playing", until you keep ignoring him. Even when he becomes more twisted the more you play, he still tries to save you by telling you to stop... Until he cannot anymore... So he makes your end quick. ...And One of the reasons I think this is related to command? It is the fact that after you shoot one of his Heads after the game distorts itself, he says "I like that"... Implying Fox.Exe is a death seeker... But he is already deceased anyway, so even getting a Minor dance with death feels good to him... And now... You have to imagine something more painful... Is the one playing this Game Krystal, who had her relationship fall apart shortly after Fox left, found out he was deceased, and is now playing the game to punish herself? Or is it one of the other Former Star Fox Team members who heard about Fox's Death, and feel guilt over abandoning Fox and leading to his demise? Heck, could even be Wolf O'donnel, who had held on to some hope that Fox would rise again and return to being his unrelenting Rival just to stave off boredom... Only to get the confirmation that Fox is now gone, and he is hit hard by his Rival's demise, and that it's all his fault for stealing the Credit of the Angular's Defeat from Fox...
All of this is just your headcanon, in any moment it was specified that it has anything to do with the characters, it all about the game itself and the evil spirit that haunts it and nothing more. So cut off the edgy and sentimental crap.
I really like where this can go, but I feel like it can really go farther if it deviated from the Generic route of Main Character with Blood Eyes and cheap jumpscares. Still a lot of potential as long as it trys for it
I feel like .exe games get a lot of shit. And it annoys me because this particular one is so well done. It looks pretty close to the second starfox game. While its not really scary, its hard to ignore the effort that was put in. Some tips: when it comes to horror, less is more. A lot of fear comes from the imagination, and to make use of it you have to 1) give the player enough time to settle in, 2) establish a foundation and environment with enough details for the player to feel immersed, and 3) abstain from trying to scare them with what they see, and instead scare them with what they don't see. For example, this wouldve been a lot scarier if there was no more dialogue after it realized it was free. Then, your mind is free to wander what it will do to you, why it was not free in the first place, and what exactly it is. This way, you stop "humanizing" the threat and make it appear like some horrific unexplainable force. Hope this helps.
I agree, a lot of horror games that I have played mostly try to scare the player by using jumpscares instead of using the environment or ambiance plus I didn't make this game.
I like it could use some flushing out though. Maybe having somthing like a Player Graveyard where dozens of Arwings are seen floating around...like in the black hole level.
The Fox McCloud.exe jumpscare actually feels like a real life experience of getting gnawed by wolves... goes to show how .exe games have their ways of going further beyond with the story and the forumula instead of just sticking with the "Oh no! Mario with red eyes, ahhhh!" Like, these people are just putting in work and are just straight up COOKING! For that, I tip my hat to them

points for managing to recreate the gameplay and visual feel of the original starfox, but otherwise it's just the same generic garbage with the same generic trooes like "what if main character but evil with black eyes and blood"

Like these games were clearly not made for anything past 30 fps, go any higher than that and the console would burst into flames. I find it hard to believe the idea of this being legitimately possible in a cartridge
Well, you could consider this as being the aftermath of Fox losing everything in the "Everyone Abandons Fox" ending of Star Fox Command... Seeing as that ending even has the credits say "Fox roamed the Lylat System, alone and unloved"... And this is the end result, with Fox's Tortured Soul haunting the Great Fox II until it got torn up by Scrappers who wanted a quick Credit... And because it was a Haunted Ship, tearing it apart not only Disturbed Fox's rest, but caused him to Haunt the Lylat System against his will as those parts ended up on other ships, which resulted in Fox.exe ending up becoming a problem to everyone. ...I say this due to how Fox.EXE constantly nags you to stop playing the game, and by extension, HIM, to let him rest and be forgotten... But because you keep playing, you end up aggravating Fox, and make him start becoming more of a Revenant... Until he cannot hold it back anymore. ...The part that also catches my eye, is this detail... "Do you wish to Die?"... What if the Player is Krystal, who feels guilt at causing Fox to die alone and become a Restless soul that Haunts Lylat?
@@Victor-056 cool story, but if you recall said game for a moment, there is no "Everyone abandons fox ending". Eso significa que un port de Star Fox para pc es posible?
¡Sí, es posible hacer un port de Star Fox para PC! Varios juegos de Nintendo han llegado a la plataforma, como Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time y Link's Awakening. ¡Así que quizás Star Fox sea el próximo!
