Sonic rewrite has to be one of the most unsettling versions of Sonic.EXE I have ever seen. I watched a LOT of stuff about sonic.exe when I was little, it was the first ever creepypasta I came across. And This version of it is so good!!! This is what reignited my love for sonic.exe

Cool detail! During the hide n seek portion of the video, It's clear the player isn't in control. 2:45 Shows the player only being able to control the camera, as before hide n seek, sonics movement matched the direction of the camra, while during it we see sonic move in directions that are odd for the camra angle, then the player trys to match the camra to the way sonic is walking so they can see where theyer going. We also see tails "hide" out of bounds, as the player cant get to him, so, instead, rewrite teleports tails back into bounds, where tails immediately starts running away, and rewrite knows exactly where to go, theres no looking around, just immediately goes in the direction that is the fastest route to catching tails, and does a trick that we never see the player knowing how to do.
I love Rewrite looking after Tails in that single frame then taking control to make sure he gets him even if the player believes its them in moving Sonic... Ah so freaky gotta love this take on horror.
well in the earlier parts of the video, it really still looks like rewrite has control over the movement, but the player has control over the camera. maybe this is implying that rewrite only wishes to make the player watch as he kills off these characters without remorse. either way, I can't wait to see the part where he kills a red-dyed echidna and a bald genius!
I think the scariest part is at 4:01 because if you listen closely, you can hear tails screaming as he begins to drown, The fact that there's no big ass scream when he dies and instead silently go's out with no one being able to hear him just makes me think. Edit: ...... My god.

What I can gather from this take is, in universe, a seemingly unfinished game, due to the jittery platforms, unfinished voicelines, lacking music in the Hide n’ Seek, as well as Miles’ location on the map. Miles’ demise is made to seem like an accident, a glitch, yet the game still progresses afterwards, Sonic still seen smiling. But we know it is no accident, we know what they are capable of… or.. do we?
This might honestly shape up to be one of the best sonic horror fan games out there, I also find it interesting that you’re playing as the spooky rather than being the one spooked.
Yeah, that part took me out of it for a second because of how robotic it felt, but the rest of the video is so well done that I'm willing to give it a pass.

Some of the creepiest aspects of this after reanalyzing what exactly is happening, "Sonic" doesn't know Tails despite the game claiming they are already friends in the intro (why else would he introduce himself?), Tails going out of bounds to escape "Sonic" but ending up being found anyway, somehow, and "Sonic" seemingly forcibly putting Tails back inbound, and then knowing exactly where to go in order to catch up to Tails, like the location of where the red spring is to get back over the wall. And if you pause the moment "Sonic" touches the barrier wall after spindashing, he briefly enters his running animation, meaning this entire time he could have been moving faster if he wanted to, he just chose to move at walking speed.
Interesting things to note in hide n seek: Tails is seen on a mountainside, As if he's trying to escape, knowing what will happen to him if he doesn't. Seems like he's been through this before. Rewrite does a spindash, a move that is never used by the player before this moment. This seems to hint at rewrite taking control over his actions and uses that to Kill tails. The wind in the background fades when Tails submerges into the water. And its only heard in the water, That's the sound of his screams while in Pain from it before he takes his final breath.
Why didn't he fly? He clearly could just fly up the mountain, And was there acid in the water? Because how did tails die from it while being under it for 1 second?

Oh dang. Okay, so the drowning video is Tails’ perspective, from what I’ve gathered... the video titled Sonic gameplay is quite LITERALLY what Sonic (or Rewrite I guess) is seeing. That’s a cool take. Sonic still does the whole evil trope killing thing, but it’s the player who does this, only being encouraged by Sonic. (Or, at least that’s what it seems like, since he initiated the hide and seek thing.) On further note, the whole ring thing he gets from killing seems to appear here. The player is essentially helping him gain power. The question is just whether or not the player is aware of it. Hm. I love this already.
This is amazing. In these types of games, you usually ask yourself when is the jumpscare or the scary entity that eventually pops out. Then you slowly realize you are the monster, and somehow, the horror and tension are still relayed to us, the viewer.
path-chooser is used here in such a odd way, it makes me think we have a choice in helping "sonic" get to his friends(?) also, the game continuing normally after tails drowns is really interesting and bizarre
OH, MY, “s o n i c”. This is incredible! The story finally begins! Music is great as always, and I love the more smooth and high res still image of sonic at 1:48 It’s a 3D blast from the past! And of course, I love all the “minor errors” made to emulate sonic that makes it feel more original. Like the title screen emblem. And telling a far fetched story/prologue set up in the beginning. Although, despite being named rewrite. Despite all the change, some of the formula remains the same. Some are unavoidable. killing “his friends” & players, being sonic, and being a haunting video game character. And those are fine. But in this instance, once again we play hide and seek with tails, with the twist being it’s on a foggy green hill with no dead animals. (T’was a nice touch btw) that we help sonic chase him into drowning in a river. We assist in the inevitable chase this time. And of course, as all fans expect. Up next is a fight with knuckles, and than Dr.Robotnik. The usual. But… what if it doesn’t have to be that way?
If this was a true game, this feels like one of the steps towards a “secret” ending. Kind of like the red rings in the og Sonic.exe. Sonic has to “catch” his friends in particular spots that will likely cause their demise, and give a red ring after. Otherwise, the victory would play out like normal
No the wiki explains that the red rings in this incarnation of sonic.exe are souls we even see this in the fnf mod that when bf loses he gets turned into a red ring And the red rings give “Sonic” more power allowing to do supernatural abilities along with changing his appearance and making him get smarter

I'm happy kiddos today are making better creepy Sonic stuff than that. Though a lot of it is still kinda cringe to me, that might be less about the quality/creativity and more that I'm a millennial and probably have outgrown it a bit. Maybe. Who knows. Either way this interpretation is actually creative and genuinely unsettling. I like it.

The horrified screaming of "SEGA!", the whole vibe in general, the distorted drowning theme and the broken audio as Sonic just watches Tails drown as blood fills the water, just OH MY GOD THIS IS PERFECT! This was... Strange. I can't call it scary because other than the drowning theme there's nothing that seems obviously scary like in most .exe/horrorbrew stuff. Unnerving is the best way I'd describe both this and most of the videos/songs associated with Rewrite. Subtlety is the name of his(their?) game. He(they?) presents a smiley front, but with more clearly going on behind the scenes. As much as I'm fond of exes like OMT/one last round that revel in cutting to the chase and being scary from the get go, I also know that horror isn't only about throwing tons of blood and gore on the screen just to scare people(the original sonic.exe taught us that). Sometimes, atmosphere and build up is just as important! You've made something really special Springless. Excited to see what else you do with rewrite!

Ayyyyyye a OMT fan too, but yeah i agree too, i love OMT and Lord X and so with using body manipulation and twisting the world to their image and so, but i also love rewrite, since he’s using a different method of luring victims, as it’s stated most exe’s have their ways of luring victims
something that throws me off about the design is while some parts are very angular, sharp, and lanky while stuff like his mouth, head, and stomach are still round and cartoony. like with the sharp spikes i wouldnt expect sonic to have an ear to ear smile and big round eyes that always look happy. like i would expect some attitude from this rodent
it looks like "sonic" takes control of the gameplay at certain points, as in he does things that would be difficult or impossible to know how to do on a first playthrough, like the platforming at 2:18 or how he catches tails without actually seeing where he is or knowing that he would cross the bridge at 3:51. like he knows JUST where to spindash to land next to where tails is going to be it's sus EDIT: also probably since we see the file being opened it's possible that the person playing the game in universe just knows these things because they made the game (assuming they made the game)

What I can gather from this take is, in universe, a seemingly unfinished game, due to the jittery platforms, unfinished voicelines, lacking music in the Hide n’ Seek, as well as Miles’ location on the map. Miles’ demise is made to seem like an accident, a glitch, yet the game still progresses afterwards, Sonic still seen smiling.

Some of the creepiest aspects of this after reanalyzing what exactly is happening, "Sonic" doesn't know Tails despite the game claiming they are already friends in the intro (why else would he introduce himself?), Tails going out of bounds to escape "Sonic" but ending up being found anyway, somehow, and "Sonic" seemingly forcibly putting Tails back inbound, and then knowing exactly where to go in order to catch up to Tails, like the location of where the red spring is to get back over the wall. And if you pause the moment "Sonic" touches the barrier wall after spindashing, he briefly enters his running animation, meaning this entire time he could have been moving faster if he wanted to, he just chose to move at walking speed.
Interesting things to note in hide n seek:
Tails is seen on a mountainside, As if he's trying to escape, knowing what will happen to him if he doesn't. Seems like he's been through this before.
Rewrite does a spindash, a move that is never used by the player before this moment. This seems to hint at rewrite taking control over his actions and uses that to Kill tails.
The wind in the background fades when Tails submerges into the water. And its only heard in the water, That's the sound of his screams while in Pain from it before he takes his final breath.
Why didn't he fly? He clearly could just fly up the mountain, And was there acid in the water? Because how did tails die from it while being under it for 1 second?

Most likely to Sonic jumping on Tails at 3:56, could’ve injured Tails but I guess he’s called Rewrite for a reason.
Tails is also very young, being forced to handle a strike that was meant to finish him off would also give reasons as to why Tails couldn’t simply jump out.

Okay, so the drowning video is Tails’ perspective, from what I’ve gathered... the video titled Sonic gameplay is quite LITERALLY what Sonic (or Rewrite I guess) is seeing.
That’s a cool take. Sonic still does the whole evil trope killing thing, but it’s the player who does this, only being encouraged by Sonic. (Or, at least that’s what it seems like, since he initiated the hide and seek thing.)
On further note, the whole ring thing he gets from killing seems to appear here. The player is essentially helping him gain power. The question is just whether or not the player is aware of it. Hm.

This is amazing. In these types of games, you usually ask yourself when is the jumpscare or the scary entity that eventually pops out. Then you slowly realize you are the monster, and somehow, the horror and tension are still relayed to us, the viewer.
path-chooser is used here in such a odd way, it makes me think we have a choice in helping "sonic" get to his friends(?)
also, the game continuing normally after tails drowns is really interesting and bizarre

It’s a 3D blast from the past!
And of course, I love all the “minor errors” made to emulate sonic that makes it feel more original. Like the title screen emblem.
And telling a far fetched story/prologue set up in the beginning.
Although, despite being named rewrite. Despite all the change, some of the formula remains the same.
Some are unavoidable. killing “his friends” & players, being sonic, and being a haunting video game character. And those are fine.
But in this instance, once again we play hide and seek with tails, with the twist being it’s on a foggy green hill with no dead animals.
(T’was a nice touch btw) that we help sonic chase him into drowning in a river. We assist in the inevitable chase this time.
And of course, as all fans expect. Up next is a fight with knuckles, and than Dr.Robotnik. The usual.
But… what if it doesn’t have to be that way?

No the wiki explains that the red rings in this incarnation of sonic.exe are souls we even see this in the fnf mod that when bf loses he gets turned into a red ring
And the red rings give “Sonic” more power allowing to do supernatural abilities along with changing his appearance and making him get smarter

I'll be honest, when Sonic.exe came out I felt like it was so terrible that I've finally outgrown creepypasta (I was like 18 at the time) but this is amazing and actually is making me reconsider.
Very well done.
Reminds me of why I fell in love with the genre in the first place.
Yeah, to be fair, the original Sonic.exe is bad. For some reason it still lives to this day, but as a much better product than the original.

Either way this interpretation is actually creative and genuinely unsettling. I like it.
See, this is actually unsettling unlike most EXE games. The horrified screaming of "SEGA!", the whole vibe in general, the distorted drowning theme and the broken audio as Sonic just watches Tails drown as blood fills the water, just OH MY GOD THIS IS PERFECT!
We need more of this, whether it's an actual game or series, I'm all for it!!

I can't call it scary because other than the drowning theme there's nothing that seems obviously scary like in most .exe/horrorbrew stuff.
Unnerving is the best way I'd describe both this and most of the videos/songs associated with Rewrite. Subtlety is the name of his(their?) game. He(they?) presents a smiley front, but with more clearly going on behind the scenes.
As much as I'm fond of exes like OMT/one last round that revel in cutting to the chase and being scary from the get go, I also know that horror isn't only about throwing tons of blood and gore on the screen just to scare people(the original sonic.exe taught us that). Sometimes, atmosphere and build up is just as important!

@@slidersides that's another thing I think is really neat about this! Even if many of the standard exe game tropes were played straight here(which they aren't), the unique style of gameplay/presentation really sets rewrite apart from the crowd!

something that throws me off about the design is while some parts are very angular, sharp, and lanky while stuff like his mouth, head, and stomach are still round and cartoony. like with the sharp spikes i wouldnt expect sonic to have an ear to ear smile and big round eyes that always look happy. like i would expect some attitude from this rodent

it looks like "sonic" takes control of the gameplay at certain points, as in he does things that would be difficult or impossible to know how to do on a first playthrough, like the platforming at 2:18 or how he catches tails without actually seeing where he is or knowing that he would cross the bridge at 3:51. like he knows JUST where to spindash to land next to where tails is going to be it's sus
EDIT: also probably since we see the file being opened it's possible that the person playing the game in universe just knows these things because they made the game (assuming they made the game)
No rewrites world is a part of him just like the wiki says and that him knowing where Tails is, is completely correct
And no the player did not make the game, the game is the og sonic.exe cd disc it’s just been replayed so many times rewrite had to change it so many times based on the players likes
