when they were describing serie, they werent saying her power is close to the goddess as a way of blasphemy or anything but that if there was a scale of power and the goddess is the highest on that scale, serie would be the closest to her.
I also took it as she's one of the only things left from the era when the goddess was involved with the earth. I can't remember the details but I think Kraft and Frieren said in one of their discussions that the goddess hasn't been seen in thousands of years. Serie is almost certainly old enough to have been there at that time

@@pwarner no time frame is given, Frieren just states that the goddess was only seen during the Age of Mythology. Just when that age was is unclear, though there are indications it may be more recent than expected. SPOILER Later in the manga Heiter states the goddess gave humanity the scriptures 1,500 years ago (1,600 in the present). Whether this was during the Age of Mythology or not is not stated, but seems like it must have been if that was the only time the goddess was seen.
Finally! The reveal of the enigmatic Throne Elf aka Serie, The Living Grimoire. Want to point out how quick Ubel was able to deduce the weakness of Wirbel's magic. It's also partially a reflection of her teachings by Frieren, who was in turn taught by Flamme. Flamme taught Frieren to stay under the radar to deceive demons, causing them to underestimate her and engage when they should by rights be running for the hills and find a deep dark hole to hide within. Using only basic magic aids in that. Similar to how a martial artist using only basic punches might cause less cautious enemies to assume that's all they know and the extent of their mastery. Frieren taught Fern in the same manner. You don't show off. You keep your mana and cards close to your chest until you have the enemy where you want them and then you overwhelm and crush them before their realization that things are not as they seem can actually make a difference.

If you recall in his story, the scene with him making that promise as a child, both he and the girl who's face he can't recall were young children but present day Ehre is still quite young. Oh. I have no idea how many times I have seen this episode. Probably over 30. I just now noticed that Denkin learned the elf's name was Frieren because Lawine called out to her uaing her name after the Stille was taken.
27:00 the way i interpreted the scene where fern says "frieren says this is enough for mages of this age" is that fern actually does know a ton of high level magic that is more complicated, but frieren was basically just like, why use those and burn all your mana when you can just shoot a bunch of quick lasers at them and win easy. theres no reason to get fancy with it when your fundamentals of magic are so solid that you can win a fight with basic magic anyways.
Kim's reaction to the reveal of Throne Elf was as "edge of the seat" excited as I was hoping for. Some very interesting hypotheses you have about what is to come. The most prescient was the whole "effortless magic" idea when it comes to first-class mages having one "wish" granted. That is definitely a concept that comes into play and is central to the story, as you both probably already know.
I've noticed a peculiar trend in this series. Every elf we've encountered so far has been OP af. We got Frieren who defeated the Demon King, Kraft who has lived since the Mythical Era, and now Serie who essentially knows every spell in the history of humanity.
@thejester7834 The only ones to survive were the really strong ones. The Demons targeted the elves bc the Demons as a social structure believe mana equals power. Since mana increase proportional to age targeting the longest lived race first makes sense. If Freieren wasn't saved by Flamme you could make a good argument the Demons would have won. So the strategy wasn't without merit.
Frieren didn't defeat the demon king alone and Kraft was never said to be from the mythical era. The only character confirmed to be from the mythical era is Serie. Although Kraft could be from that era as well, this isn't a confirmed fact.
Some people theorize that its Wirbel and Sense due to their ages lining up and similar hair colors, but I think it's probably not someone we've met yet. I wouldn't expect Wirbel's crush to also be a mage, but I suppose anything is possible.
I seriously chomp at the bit waiting to see you two react to this show! I'm gonna miss the chemistry you two have on the reactions. I'm not sure how you dropped off my algorithm; maybe the fact that I cram 100 videos a day in my TY playlist, but I make it a point to look for you two!
Granting a spell is not equal to granting a wish. Spells are bound to the rules the show so far diligently built, while wish is like a Genie - everything is possible. Serie just knows all the spells in the world.
The girl Wirbel made the promise to is not Ehre. Wirbel is significantly older than Ehre. However, while it's only alluded to in the series. Ehre is the granddaughter of Lernen, the first class mage who recognized Frieren's holy symbol.
No. Wirbel crush is not Ehre. It was 29 years ago when Wirbel's village got attacked, and he looked quite grown kid. Now he must be over 35, 40 even. While Ehre barely looks 20.
Show dont tell at its best - Whirbel have a spell so delay killing, cause he is not natural born killer. He is forced to be such. So he could not recognise Fern lying to him. But the real killer Ubel notes this instant. So much char. development in one scene!
Fern unleashes "Hoard of seed rats" spell! I'm here for that! I wouldn't put it past Ehre being the daughter of the girl that left and maybe her family returned after a whille and Wirbel was off to mage school... You'll find more about Ubel and Denken later...
I think in regards to magic, this property(show/manga) takes a somewhat realistic approach. There are the circumstances of characters needs, like you were saying with regional magic, and Frieren's mastery over concealing mana to kill demons, but there isn't some innate born specialty for magic types. Magic is like a skill or job in our world. People arbitrarily pick a skill based on interests and what's available to them and then try to master it to turn it into a profession. Some people in real life have the drive, talent, and circumstances to get Phd's in multiple fields while others go to trade school's and just seek to master that one skill because that's enough for them. There's also the time it takes to master a skill, is it worth it to learn a completely new field vs becoming more proficient with the one. Both factors lead to a majority of mages having a "magic type" and the more experienced/talented mages not being constrained to one type.
The one thing I both really like and sometimes find frustrating about Frieren is how much showing it does rather than telling when presenting the story. I don't think I'm spoiling anything, but I think I can tell you this part of the show starts to focus on the differing philosophies of magic in the show. Less on what magic is, and more on the why. Its subtle, but the show does show the reasoning behind why "old" style magic seemingly differs from the modern usage. Anything else would be a spoiler lol. Also Wirbl is like 35 at least. Older than he looks.
It’s funny that Wirbel’s childhood crush looks vaguely like Mikasa, with the pink top and red scarf, especially considering Wirbel is voiced by Jean lol
If it was Ehre who Wirbel promised to save the demons for, why did he get 10 years older and her get a couple of years younger in the other scene? It's like when I saw Tim Watkins who I went to school with 25 years ago. I punched him in the arm and said 'HOW ARE YA SONOVA B!' and he started crying. I was like whoah whoah whoah... if he's Tim, why didn't he grow up too?
From my understanding magic is about imagening and understanding the spell to some extent, so obviously someone who uses water, it might be because to visualize their spells using water might come naturally, or maybe someone is enamored with fire, maybe you need the spell to hit hard, so they envision a big Boulder etc etc, imagination being a part is like, to put out a fire is it easier to envision water raining down, or balling up the fire into a ball, but stop the burning, but its just how you imagine it the best
On the ages of the test takers. Fern is the youngest 3rd class mage. She is about 19 now. Erhe is a second class mage which Fern recognized as the strongest from Wirbels group. That took some time to get there. I'm guessing she is mid to late twenties and Wirbel is late twenties to early thirties. It's possible for them to known each other then. If the mystery girl was Erhe she would have been taken to where family is from and grandfather was also a mage. The resurgence of demons may have been Wirbels magic training ground from too young an age, whereas Erhe would have been safely trained in schools due to family connections. Wirbels back side was shown but not his face so the age is speculative but war and militaries age the young. I'm throwing my hat in Wirble/Erhe lost young love ring.
Fern is still 4 to 6 months away from turning 19. Also Wirbel was 4 or 5 when the demons began acting up after Himmel's death - 30 years ago. This makes Wirbel 34-35 years old. He also said that his childhood friend moved to the southern lands not just south from their village - this is thousands of miles away (and also where Fern is originally from) and far outside Wirbel's area of operation. Ehre is probably only in her mid 20s (10 years younger than Wirbel) and her village, the one Wirbel defended, is in the northlands (nowhere near where his childhood friend moved to). Your thrown hat is very wrong.
Thanks for turning on the light around the 32 minute mark, it was getting pretty dark. Perhaps have a backup light on the whole time so that you don't get distracted theorizing & speculating. The animators could have saved us a lot of trouble if they made more obvious differences between Wirbel's childhood crush & Ehre. I think they're different people.
Ehre is around the same age as Kanne, Lawine, Laufen, and Fern. About 18-20. Wirbel already in his mid 30's, around 34-35. No, Ehre is not the girl Wirbel keep promise to.
Regarding the comparison of Serie to the goddess: you might want to go back and look at the depiction of the goddess in Episode 1. If that depiction is accurate, then the goddess and Serie have something in common that may be part of what prompted the comparison.
@@DarwinAwardWinner this isn't Just in episode 1. In this very episode the Goddess is shown to be an elf behind Serie. It was shown to be an elf in Kraft's imagination as well, back in episode 11
Perfect timing with the upload! Edit: 8:07 Yippee, more throne elf theories. Edit: 16:33 You guys are the first I've seen that actually thought that Ehre could be the girl Wirbel wanted to impress. AFAIK it's definitely possible, and it's crazy how no other reactors seem to have picked up on the hints. Edit: 20:00 Throne elf is revealed!!! Edit: 26:19 Regarding the whole Old School v New School mages thing, Ehre when fighting Fern mentions she fights like her grandfather, who in this episode she revealed to be a First-class Mage. Which i think really develops Ehre's feeling of wrongness back in episode 19. It'd be *really* weird to see someone younger than you with a fighting style similar to one of the oldest and most powerful mages you know.
To throw things into perspective, in the light novels they don't come out and say it, it's only heavily implied the strength difference between serie and frieren. Serie is basically a full grown adult, and frieren is still only a newborn. This applies to their age as well as power.
@@pwarner Mana doesn't equate to strength. I'm also trying not to list spoilers. Only putting things into perspective. In the light novels this much is known at this point.
Sending civilians in front of an assault force attacking a city to act as human shields were commonly used by horse nomads living in the eurasian steeps. Most famously used by the mongols. Besides creating a wall of human shields , it also demoralised the defenders as to protect their cities, they would have to kill their own people...

YES! been waiting ALL week for this XD ty!
thank you for watching with us :) !!
@@FTF-Media
I seriously chomp at the bit waiting to see you two react to this show! I'm gonna miss the chemistry you two have on the reactions.
I'm not sure how you dropped off my algorithm; maybe the fact that I cram 100 videos a day in my TY playlist, but I make it a point to look for you two!
I love the idea that frieren knows the terrior of magic. Thanks for reacting!
With Denken, He is an imperial mage: a 'war mage' of the empire.
She really loves her battle shonens; she immediately thought of hollow purple lmao
hahahaa there’s a special little part of my heart that’s reserved specifically for my battle shonens :)
Bargland sounds like a new Car from Landrover. Well done, if some comment not mentioned it, i would not sense the earrings :D
Fern unleashes "Hoard of seed rats" spell! I'm here for that! I wouldn't put it past Ehre being the daughter of the girl that left and maybe her family returned after a whille and Wirbel was off to mage school... You'll find more about Ubel and Denken later...
everyone gangster until Ubel goes Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine
Ehre is probably ten years younger than Wirbel, so it surely wasn't her the girl he loved 😆
One of the jokes about Fern is that her attack style has been referred to as "Zoltrak-47." Personally, I think of her more like an A-10 Thunderbolt.
ZoltraAK-47! 😂
Serie is significantly older than Frieren. She is also older than Kraft, but not sure by how much.
n.b., Sense is also german (as are all of the names) - it translates to scythe... ^^
Ehre is around the same age as Kanne, Lawine, Laufen, and Fern. About 18-20.
Wirbel already in his mid 30's, around 34-35.
No, Ehre is not the girl Wirbel keep promise to.
Lawine and Kanne are 14 years old
Regarding the comparison of Serie to the goddess: you might want to go back and look at the depiction of the goddess in Episode 1. If that depiction is accurate, then the goddess and Serie have something in common that may be part of what prompted the comparison.
What do you mean by that? What is the common element ?
@@boboyo3140 The goddess is depicted as an elf.
Throne Elf!
Nice Warowl intro John, I liked it 😂
Tbf Serie probably knows every spell Frieren knows, even the new ones.
Wirbel " don't make me cut a "
Nice video. Later on i check it
It would be very cool if they can get to 10k subs before the last episode of the Frieren series
also also, just speculation, Ehre's smile is a near match cut to the kids, along with the hair similarities.
👍👍
Aww, you cut the part where he said "Don't turn this unnecessary killing into a necessary one", it's the title mention
I will never stop finding it funny how English speakers pronounce names xd
Serie = seri, Sense = sens lol
Fern is kind of terrifying, isn't she.
and i LOVE it :)
We need to stop with this kirei cake ahh dialogue
If you can please watch The Dangers In My Heart. Thank you so much! I love your channel so much it's so chill.
throne elf finally pulls up
To throw things into perspective, in the light novels they don't come out and say it, it's only heavily implied the strength difference between serie and frieren. Serie is basically a full grown adult, and frieren is still only a newborn. This applies to their age as well as power.
Newborn is pushing it a bit, but yeah, Serie is way older.
I'm not going to discuss it for spoilers, but we get a direct comparison of their mana later in this season
Frieren isn’t a light novel?
@@jayjjey1400no but there is a light novel.
It will be fun watch you two reacting to Spy x Family and Apothecary Diaries! Both have new seasons coming up…
have some bad news for you, friend 🙃
❤❤❤❤❤
🚨 throne elf alert 🚨
18:56 "Oh God, what's this guy gonna be?"... The guy's name is "Richter", what else could his magic be about? 😅. I love how this show telegraphs each person's shtick by their names; it's a bit of a lateral game in of itself.
I can't FUCKING WAIT for my bro LAND to show his trump card.
lmao, stolen or not, i loved the first intro take!
getting closer
she looks like a boxer who can defeat strong opponents with just a jab🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
Serie's spells are a Seriuos matter
What are they saying for Serie all the time? Throw Elf, Trone Elf, Drow Elf?:D Why, is it a reference to something?
hi :) kim here! when we first started frieren i saw serie in the op but didn’t know who she was yet ! but she was an elf chilling on a throne so i just started calling her throne elf :)
@@FTF-Media Ahh I see! :D Thanks for the reply! Love your reactions for this anime! BTW was I blind before? I just see that in the description its written Throne Elf 3 times now, was it there all the time?.. :D
Ahh and Wirbel is 33-34 years old in the anime, Ehre is a lot younger but couldn't find any info on her exact age, only that she was a child when the already adult Wirbel saved her village.
Need next one please XD
Episode 21 coming out tomorrow!
Serie is pronounced zair-ee-eh. It means "series", in the same kind of varied meanings that English has for that word.
im waiting for the Patreon,
If you you play a video game and see a naked man with club, its either a total noob or an unbeatable pro.
Zoltraak is basically the club here.
-feet- throne elf is here!
I miss FMAB 🥺
hi there! kim here :) i promise i will be getting back to reacting to it SO soon, i am going through withdrawals myself :’) i just need a little bit more time to adjust to the transition the channel will be making (i dunno if you saw our community post!) and then i promise i will be right back to it! thank you for wanting to watch with me!!
FRIEREN TIMEEEEEEE!!!!!
was the intro a WarOwl reference lol
"but does she know the flower spell? NO"
laughs in hindsight
15:52 He saved her village when he was a grown man and she was a little girl. While I agree that the partial face and dress made it look like Ehre, the math doesn't work.
18:17 Denkin's reason for wanting to be a First Class Mage is truly golden 🥇
I see what you did there. 😂
16:00 No, no it's not. Look at the age difference when he saved Ehres village 😂
So, ermm, wait... are you guys going to post episode 21 now as well, in a few minutes? Since you're saying you'll watch it right after this one?
ZoltraAK-47!
pleaseeee react to madoka magica!!
also, first class is just a title, a very prestigious title but its just a title. they get a certificate or something and they can just go off if they like, they dont have to serve serie if they dont want to. the prize of getting any grimoire the first class mage wants is the prize for this great title. i think your over villainizing serie a bit is all.
16:01 It was not her. she was a kid where he saved her from deamons he is way older then her
How deep does the lore with Throne Elf go? Her name is Serie. It means series.
finally
Wirbel is about 34.
It was not in fact her. He's like at least 15 years older than her
