From the engineers I have talked to, leaving a spring compressed or decompressed is not the issue. The issue is the constant loading and unloading of magazines that causes the most tension on a spring.
Poor heat treating will cause it to lose tension if compressed but that is more of a quality control issue with poor quality manifacuring and does not apply to quality mags with good springs.
+shoktroop You haven't had the springs go soft on you? That, and the 17-round 9mm not dropping free are my only complaints. I can still pop in a Wolff spring, and still be under the price of a Glock factory mag.
+TheSuburban15 : Not at all. I don't load magazines to full capacity though. I put 9 rounds in a 10 round mag, 16 in a 17 and my 33 round mags I put 30 in for months at a time in storage. Never had an issue.
Have you had any recent issue just bought a few and wondering I will not be leaving it full 10-11 rounds in a 13 for more than a week most times just three days.
Try shooting upwards you will start having failure to feed and stove pipe problems if you do take the springs out and stretch them a little to have a more upwork Force and that'll solve the problem
I bought a Korean G17 mag and loaded it after useing it once and came back after a month, I had a stove pipe and a failure to feed. I now only use it for the range.
To solve this problem take the springs out and stretch them to give them more up force tension and that'll solve your problem with all Korean magazines their springs are very weak
My experience with Korean Glock magazines the frame ok and the lip feeds are ok the problem I had with some mag's is there springs inside the mag's they don't push up hard enough try shooting upwards and watch yourself start having failure to feed problems such things like stove pipe their springs are super soft and need more tension so what I did to all my Korean Glock mags to solve all that problem was taking them all out and I stretch them so they can have more upload tention to seat that bullet in the round properly so I don't have all these failure to feed or stove pipe and that solve all the problems with Korean magazines.
For the record, I bought several off brand mags, including Kahn's. There is some plastic flashing debris inside the mag in the holes of the steel liner that can catch on the spring and bind up the rounds. This happens sometimes and can be fixed by scraping it off with a sharp object.
I have one for my G22. It had an extension on the bottom to make it a 31 rounder and it did not function properly. The spring didn't seem strong enough to feed the last few rounds. I removed the extension and pulled the spring out a little longer. I put a stock glock baseplate on it. It's a reliable 28 rounder now. Also one of my Glock mags is an 18 rounder now. I bought 2 two round extensions for my other carry mags. I have 53 rounds(Glock Mags) on me at all times and 28 rounds(Korean Mag) in my car. I saw a 50 round drum mag for my G22 the other day.... 😁
I truly believe most who say they are junk have never owned or shot them. I've ran em for 2 years. no problems. put calipers on them same deminsions as factory mags. not sure but would say same materials. they are fine.
One thing that i want to point out is how all Glock lovers talk about the short trigger reset, and how superior it is, but notice how when chad rapid-fires he still pulls his finger all the way off of the trigger and still manages to get a good rate of fire. The short reset does't really matter because it is very hard to only make your finger move that short distance when you are rapid firing. I just don't think those triggers are worth all the hype. Great video guys glad the mags work well.
Over the past 1.5 years, I've bought well over 30 of these mags. I use them for my Glock 26, 27, 17, and 22. I also keep them loaded at all times. The only issue that I've ever had was cosmetic in nature. It seems they get sloppy with the plastic molding around the top of the mag. However, this never affected function. For anybody that's thinking about stock-piling mags over the next few months, these are the way to go as you can buy around 3 or 4 for every factory Glock mag.
Are these KCI brand??? I just bought 5 KCI 31 round 40 S&W mags, and every single one is a POS! I would not recommend KCI to anyone! This is an older video, so maybe the quality was better at that time....
They're using the 9mm spring in them and losing vertical spring pressure, laterally, do to the smaller dimension of the spring. Using 135-180gr bullets of the .40 cartridge and a problem is inevitable. Their old, didn't work, .45 27rder(holes) mag spring actually fits in the 40S&W 30rders and makes them work fine. They upgraded the spring on the .45 26rder(holes), work great now, and it won't fit in the 40's anymore. I've left detailed instructions on how to fix the problems with them, to no avail with the springs...They did upgrade all their magazines to be a one piece liner, as they were initially, except the .45, a 2 piece design...IDIOTS, as they now have a mixed reputation over something as cheap as it is to make a proper spring. We'll have to wait and see if the ETS .40S&W 30rders work, as it looks like they did the same thing from the looks of their loaded 30rder pictures. You can see the compressed spring bent sideways/laterally in the magazine....Using 9mm dimension springs, with their lateral/side play, in the 40's don't work with their heavier weighted bullets...Too much vertical loss of spring pressure.
There's been studies about this that indicate it's the constant loading and unloading of rounds that wear down the springs, not so much keeping them loaded. My brother has 3 M16 mags left over from when he was in the ARMY around 10+ years ago. He loaded them when he got out, and they've been loaded ever since. I recently checked them, and they still have great spring tension.
I bought one to test and found that it did not drop as free as a glock 33 rnd mag. measured the 2 mags and found the korean mag to be slightly larger. some sand paper and polished her down to same thicknes as glock problem solved. Next I found that the metal inside mag at the front was sharp and would catch the lip of brass durring feeding and jam. A little round over with a file problem solved. Functions better now. My results based only on 1 mag. i bought. Glad to see yours functioned better.
Considering you can buy sometimes 3 of the Korean mags for the price of one oem, there is definitely an incentive. I was a Korean nay sayer until I got some of the newer mags. They're very comparable now.
Great video guys!I have a little question,I heard about this neat little pistol called the PMR-30 and I was wondering if a .22 Magnum pistol could be a decent concealed carry pistol?I'd love to hear back from you guys!
I bought 3 15 round magazines a few months ago and have put 100's of rounds through them and not one problem. Before they arrived I read a post some where that said check them to see if there are any small pieces of plastic sticking up where they didn't come out clean from the mold. All 3 of the ones I ordered had them, I just trimmed them before use and no problems.
I have a few of these that are going to be loaded for a little over a year by the time I get home (I travel a lot for work) and have a chance to shoot them. I've only ever had one hiccup with these mags so far in a kel tec sub2k. The year loaded will be interesting.
Regarding leaving magazines loaded. Modern springs don't wear out or take a set from being left compressed (ie loaded). What wears your springs out is constant compression and expansion.
I rather have 2 glock factory mags than 6 RWB or KCI mags of the same capacity because the glocks mags will live 5 times longer and function 100% more reliably from my experience glock mags almost never have feed issues for me but KCI and RWB mags have problems with blunt nose ammo or heavy for caliber ammo because of weaker springs and the front of the bullet being pushed in because it doesnt feed smoothly into the chamber from the magazine and catches the front of the cartridge and mashes in the bullet with 147gr 9mm at least thats my experience ....
Trim the excess, and buy Glock factory springs. You get a glock factory quality mag for less. They are good mags, and function just as good as my factory mags. One bad egg out of the bunch isn't enough to condemn the lot. Hope this helps.
Well, statistically speaking, the odds of him hitting or missing or up to the amount of skill that he has with the fire. Also have you forgotten the point of the video. This is to test Korean Glock magazines, not accuracy
I had no excess material on mine, but it is an RWB Korean Magazine and not Kahn, The spring feels weak, but I when I get to 29 I have to break out the Glock magazine loader and finish it with it till 33. I plan to replace the spring with a factory Glock 18 magazine spring. All in all, I am happy with it, and will continue to purchase the Korean 33 rounders until the OEM ones come down to the MSRP. All of my Standard Capacity magazines are Glock factory 17 rounders, and one OEM Clinton 10 rounder
I own a Glock 21 and have an extended magazine of 26 rounds, the base plate says it was manufactured by RDS in Korea. My complaint is that i have been carrying it in my pistol but unfortunately the long magazine bumps into objects and in 4 separate incidents the bottom cap was knocked off the magazine and the spring end end cap went flying. The other 3 times i was able to retrieve all the parts and glue the cap on with hot glue. This last time occurred 3 days ago and noting bumped it, it just spontaneously went SPRONG and the spring and end cap parts went flying into bushes. I cant find the spring. Now that i think about it, I'm not sure that i want to repair it, for all the other times the thing flew apart i was alone. So what would happen if I would be in a crowd and the thing spontaneously flies off and hits someone causing an injury? So you may also ask why i carry that extended magazine in my pistol in my holster. Simple. I live in Israel in the Judean Mountains with lots of Hamas supporters in our area. I'm an orchard farmer and want that extended magazine already in my pistol should it be required for self defense
I've had 33 Rd 40 Cal Korean mags that never had issue Springs stayed nice n stiff n I ve had some that after a week of use you could feel the spring puss out n almost never feed ....guess it's a crap shoot
I bought two KCI 27rd mags for my G21 It had hickups on the first time I shot them Then I switched the base plates with the factory 13rd mags. So now the kci is 25rds and factory are 15rds And that did the trick Both run great now
I had the same problem straight out the pack of open them what you got to do is stretch the springs so they can have a more up force load to seat the round properly. All Korean brand magazines have soft springs in them.
I got two .40 31-round KCI magazines and they wouldn't even hand cycle reliably, the stack of rounds would lock up at half capacity with the top few rounds sitting there loose. The feed lips gouged the casings as well. Those were probably a bad design though because the factory 22-round .40 magazines use the same springs with less capacity, and the KCI metal liner was two separate liners joined loosely when the plastic was molded over them.
The only problem I've had with mags loaded a long time is failure of the slide to lock back after the last round. I don't really consider that a malfunction though since I usually don't notice the slide is locked back until the gun fails to fire because its empty. Nothing that a little spring stretching won't cure though.
I picked up a couple of these 15 round Korean Glock mags a couple years ago, for dirt cheap ($15 for two mags IIRC). They work great, I wish I would have bought a few more. Never had any jams/failures with them, not too sure about steel case though. The only minor complaint is when I got them they had pretty thick plastic edges where they were molded together that MAYBE could have caused a problem. It wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed with 10 minutes and a razor blade though.
You had better luck with those mags than I did. Mine wouldn't feed without the follower catching and stopping inside the magazine. I had to use a Dremel to remove all the burs and smooth out the followers really good in order to get any kind of reliable function and then they were never 100%. I ended up giving all mine away because I want the peace of mind of knowing the mag works.
how long can you leave a 9mm glock or the korean mags loaded for and still fire them properly? like if you wanted to have a hi cap mag loaded all the time for at home or in a pack
I keep a mag loaded with hollow points (a factory mag) for about two years now and have not tried it's reliability in about six months but for being loaded for a year and a half it worked like it was new. If the foreign ones work just as good im on board.
for the glocks in 45 use the standard 13 rounders but get the mag extension from magpul intended for the kriss. search "magpul glock 21 magazine extension" and you will find a +17 round extension for your stock glock mags.
+IAMTHEPROFANE NOTADEPT - do you happen to have any older KCI to compare against? I have several of the older ones, and when I compared to glock factory mags, found that the springs were not nearly as good, and there was some flashing internally that could cause the follower to bind up. A new spring from wolff and a few mins with a file resolved the issue. And at the time, even with the new spring they were much cheaper than factory mags. Been using them for years now and haven't had an issue since.
In William Shatner's voice: "KAAAAAAHNNNN". I have 4 Korean G17. I use them in my G17/26. Once they broke in, they have been functioning ok. The few times I have ever had a FTF/FTE with my Glocks was with the Korean mags. They stay in my range bag. They are very hard to load to capacity right out of the package.
I have 3 of those Korean mags for my g27...1 of the baseplates broke on 1st time use. I replaced them all with glock baseplates..they used to ftf alot but they worked fine latley. ...maybe breaking in?
korea has had a small arms industry for a while, mags are hard to make but they have had plenty of time doing it. m-1 carbine, dawoo pistol,k-1 and k-2 rifle. korea 78-79
love your videos, i agree with on the 9mm korean mags, but i bought the 45 acp 27 round and have problems with it jamming. i think the spring they use in th 45 acp is not heavy enough for the 45 acp rounds. the good thing abount the 9mm, you can always use the glock springs if needed.
never had any problems with the KCI mags, except the springs are a tad short and weak. +2 extensions don't work with the 17 rounders, but they work well stock.
I like the SGM Tactical mags - these are the same folks that make the 9 mm 50 round drum magazine for the Glock. I must admit that I don't use them in my 19 though, they are used in my Sub 2000 and they work great.
I bought me 1 cause of the great review loaded for almost 2 weeks tried to put it back in my glock wouldn't lock in kept falling off all i did was take 1 bullet at a time off till it locked in then reloaded those same bullets back no problems since i just think the spring gets stiff and wont push down idk i also seen you can replace those springs with a better 1
I bought two at the same place. 1 works fine. The other I can't load more than about 15 rounds and it jams up on loading every time. Then it also jams while shooting... Wish they both worked like the first.
Local store had a case of the kci 33 rd mags a couple years ago they were selling slow ,close to end of year to clear them out had them marked down to twelve dollars. He sold me two for twenty dollars they are kept loaded one in car is a good way to carry extra ammo take it out every few months and use it, has never failed yet.
I found that the only issue I have with the Korean mags is them seating into a gen4 g19. Sometimes they pop out if I dont slam them in. Never had a jam...well never had a jam in a glock actually.
Yup got a new smg tactical 31 round glock 22 mag. It failed to feed out of the bag. Spring is way too weak. SMG is sending free replacement next week. Good service though.
Oh I live in cali too :) You are not alone :D I try to find a grey area, like pre-banned mags for my AR's and handguns, I bot some prebans off a cop for my M9, so I get 15 rounders there, and I bot used USGI mags online for like 10$ a piece, they hold thirty :D
Imagine being fired at by that haha "THOUGHT YOU SAID HE HAD A PISTOL, WHEN THE HELL'S HE GONNA RUN OUT OF AMMO" haha just goes on for so long for a hand gun

Poor heat treating will cause it to lose tension if compressed but that is more of a quality control issue with poor quality manifacuring and does not apply to quality mags with good springs.
I love my Korean mags but my glock factory mag kind of rocks back and forward. If you have a problem with your mag just put glock spring In them
I personally have had zero issues with my Korean mags. None and I shoot on average 300 rounds per week. No ftf or fte....
+shoktroop You haven't had the springs go soft on you? That, and the 17-round 9mm not dropping free are my only complaints. I can still pop in a Wolff spring, and still be under the price of a Glock factory mag.

The way I look at it, never trust your life to something you might have a slight doubt about. Just buy factory.
I’ve had issues with KCI stick mags before with the springs getting weak so I just swapped them out for Wolf extra power springs.
I truly believe most who say they are junk have never owned or shot them. I've ran em for 2 years. no problems. put calipers on them same deminsions as factory mags. not sure but would say same materials. they are fine.
Would really like to see these revisited on a long time scale. Factory mag reliability as well
One thing that i want to point out is how all Glock lovers talk about the short trigger reset, and how superior it is, but notice how when chad rapid-fires he still pulls his finger all the way off of the trigger and still manages to get a good rate of fire. The short reset does't really matter because it is very hard to only make your finger move that short distance when you are rapid firing. I just don't think those triggers are worth all the hype. Great video guys glad the mags work well.

Do you reload?
I agree I bought one and first day multifunction the whole time

change to WOLF springs - works FLAWLESS!!!
Damn Chad was skinny back in the day
And less hairy....lol

If Glock makes OEM extended mags why on earth would you use anything else. Sheesh how cheap can you be?

Seems like the video and sound are out of sync .Do they have those damn protrusions on each side of the mag like Glock magazines do ?

Well, statistically speaking, the odds of him hitting or missing or up to the amount of skill that he has with the fire. Also have you forgotten the point of the video. This is to test Korean Glock magazines, not accuracy
what exactly would a few weeks do to a mag? i would of thought after yearrs things would start going wrong
2019 and still working 😃
2020?
If you have problems with the springs, are they not interchangeable with factory glock 33 round mag springs??

is this about spring compression, or just general rounds loosing lubrication and getting stuck in the mag?
what difference would it make when the Mags Loaded?
Bunny Duckling that's a fact!
ever eady the biggest problem comes from the dirt & dust that gets into the mags while loaded.
I have two extended 19 round G17 mags and a G18 33 rounder Khan mags. Work great, never a single mag issue. Would recommend.

bought 1 and while loading the bottom plate fell off lol
how long can you leave a 9mm glock or the korean mags loaded for and still fire them properly? like if you wanted to have a hi cap mag loaded all the time for at home or in a pack
my factory Glock mag misfeeds more than my Korean one and I bought the Korean used, Glock new....
Taylor Shead I've never had a misfeed with my Glock mags. Sorry to hear that.
This is definitely not normal and very unfortunate
I keep a mag loaded with hollow points (a factory mag) for about two years now and have not tried it's reliability in about six months but for being loaded for a year and a half it worked like it was new. If the foreign ones work just as good im on board.
Here is a man that loves firearms! Great passion for sharing the gun knowledge and that we love.
for the glocks in 45 use the standard 13 rounders but get the mag extension from magpul intended for the kriss. search "magpul glock 21 magazine extension" and you will find a +17 round extension for your stock glock mags.
Good vid guys, thanks for sharing. Few years down the line now, any followup done? I suspect the Korean mags are still running smooth?
Did you guys ever do an update for this video??
Can you please tell me the difference in weight between these Korean 30 round magazines against the ETS magazines which are plastic?
That's why I like revolvers for keeping a defensive weapon loaded long term. No tension or strain on anything.
the 33 rnd korean mags seem to work well for me too, but the 15 round g19 korean mags do not function good, i use them just for training.
cool video
This video is 3 years old, the new KCI Glock mags are junk. I can't get any of them to work in any of my 4 Glocks. June 2015.
+IAMTHEPROFANE NOTADEPT good to know, thank you sir.
Is this the same as the KCI mags?
What's the point of the dates??
Nice mags, but i'm more interested in what type of truck you have?
I have 3 of those Korean mags for my g27...1 of the baseplates broke on 1st time use. I replaced them all with glock baseplates..they used to ftf alot but they worked fine latley. ...maybe breaking in?
korea has had a small arms industry for a while, mags are hard to make but they have had plenty of time doing it. m-1 carbine, dawoo pistol,k-1 and k-2 rifle. korea 78-79
are those what they call the smg surefire mags?
Would you recommend the gen4 over the gen3?
hey guys where can I pickup some of those Kahn mags? be nice to have a link
You guys are having fun doing the reviews. And it's fun watching you do it.
your videos are likely the best videos shooters can watch on youtube! Excellent work!
Pual Harrell’s channel is also really informative.
hey, where do you get your steel plates from?
you should only ever buy Glock brand Glockazines.
Antwon Jenkins rite!
True!
Good info. I have shied away from these magazines in the past as I did not know if they were reliable.
love your videos,
i agree with on the 9mm korean mags, but i bought the 45 acp 27 round and have problems with it jamming. i think the spring they use in th 45 acp is not heavy enough for the 45 acp rounds. the good thing abount the 9mm, you can always use the glock springs if needed.
never had any problems with the KCI mags, except the springs are a tad short and weak.
How are they holding up now ?
I bought me 1 cause of the great review loaded for almost 2 weeks tried to put it back in my glock wouldn't lock in kept falling off all i did was take 1 bullet at a time off till it locked in then reloaded those same bullets back no problems since i just think the spring gets stiff and wont push down idk i also seen you can replace those springs with a better 1
You need to stretch the spring out just alittle open up the mag
I have had to change out my OEM 22 rd .40 cal mags due to the springs getting too weak after being left loaded for quite awhile.
I bought two at the same place. 1 works fine. The other I can't load more than about 15 rounds and it jams up on loading every time. Then it also jams while shooting... Wish they both worked like the first.
I've only got on of the Kahn magazines right now it's the 15rd for a G19 and it runs flawlessly through my 26 as well. Gotta pick up some more.
Just bought one a week or so ago, good to see they are good quality.
I have been toled never leave a Magazines loaded for prolonged periods of time due to it weekening the mag spring could u exsplain.
Can you do a video on how to take them apart?
I don't see a problem with the mags. I see a problem with their shooting.
What is the trigger weight in that block 26?
true, definitely compared to H&K prices
I've never seen them for $30 except online, but then you have to add shipping.
Looking for Korean extended magazines for my Glock 20 and 29, 10mm pistols. Does any You Tuber out there have the link where I can order them?
How about dropping them also to see if the break?
I love your vids always help .. i just have a question i always leave my glock mags loaded .. those doing this damage my mags
No, its fine. It's the loading and unloading that wears out a spring.
+mrbrav1000
He's right, they answered this in another video. It's the loading and unloading that wears them out.
Do KCI make extended magazines like 20 rounds or 30 rounds for the glock 43?
Kristian Moore glock 43 is single stack so no
where can you buy these Korean mags from?
Was there ever a sequel to this video
I had to take mine apart and sand down some plastic overmolding and sharp edges. Never had any issues though.
Imagine being fired at by that haha
"THOUGHT YOU SAID HE HAD A PISTOL, WHEN THE HELL'S HE GONNA RUN OUT OF AMMO" haha just goes on for so long for a hand gun
@Run, Jack. Run. little known fact, the central spindle in those drums are made of gold imported from mars and hardened with an alloy of unobtainium
Issues I heard, fit to snug in magwell. Maybe those were made on Monday or Friday?
Do u load it full mate? Ty
