  • This place is soooo spooky!! We are in the abandoned soviet-era ghost town in Coles Bay to explore the old houses, and what has been left behind. Svalbard is full of fascinating places, and this is definitely one of them. I hope you enjoy the video! :)

I wouldn't want them to have to face such a potentially bad situation, and have to protect themselves. I know that would be a very unfortunate encounter. I can tell they care very much about the eco system and the animals.

    What makes places like this even more sad is the fact that people didn't really choose or want to work in them. During Soviet times you could not just move around and decide your job... Hope in this case those people did actually get paid that much, that amount during those times was huge and would have made people want to move there at least for awhile, but it was also not uncommon to never receive your pay...

    • @zlo333
      @zlo333 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      they did get paid, look it up on russian youtube chanels, people that worked there got 3 times more then those on main land, my geography teacher used to work above arctic circle in 70s and 80s, , he was paid good money, and then the colapse came, so he became a teacher , alcoholic, with memories of his past , it is sad though

    "Lonely, abandoned houses" is a really good descriptor. I've often thought that about houses, especially ones that looked like they were loved and well cared-for in the past. I imagine what it would feel like, to have years (or even generations) of life lived in them, all the ups and downs, children playing, holidays, birthdays, meals being cooked, and then suddenly just stillness and loneliness, left alone to slowly decay and die.

    It is strange to see all the wood there. I assume, that a wood is pretty expensive staff there and russians have another (and alive) town on Swalbard.

    Oh my how I LOVE this beautiful excursion. As I watched - the time frozen living quarters and place that time forgot - it is all So Beautiful!
    When Christopher opened one of the interior doors and went in first, an overwhelming sentiment came over me of this: that man loves you Cecilia.
    Thank you for showing all this beauty to us in the way that you do.

    My first thought was polar bears after seeing Kokh's incredible photos of an abandoned meteorological station in the Russian artic being taken over by polar bears. Probably many have already seen these as they've made an internet sensation. Perfect timing as we head into Halloween season & gorgeous scenery. I can't start my Sunday until I watch one of your vlogs!

    Love it... You ramped up your photography by adding some really nice drone shots and also the still photo's such as a sink closeup for example Just adds to the mystery.... the wonder of how life was when they all lived there. Nice touch and thanks for the adventure.

    That video was incredible!! Thanks for showing us these places. You're an amazing story-teller. The TH-camrs Kara and Nate were in Svalbard after their cruise to the North Pole, I was hoping you two would connect.

      I've seen their film about Svalbard and the cruise and was annoyed for the whole time they didn't do justice to the beauty of nature, especially on Svalbard. All you can see in their films is just themselves and their faces with the ocassional flash of a polar bear. While watching K&N I was constantly thinking "Cecilia would have done it better!".

    Cecilia, with all of your video-photographic experience have you ever thought about making a full length movie? You certainly have the imagination to write a script for a work of fiction and you seem to know a lot of the history of Svalbard to create a documentary. Coles Bay could be the perfect location for filming a horror film from your worst nightmare or a history of the area from a Russian's perspective.
    BTW, when you were panning around the bay with your boat in the distance, I half expected to see a polar bear doing a little jig on the back deck in celebration of finally finding a heated boat he could sleep on this winter! Polar Bear Party Boat!

    I've enjoyed your last boating video and this one very much beautiful views on the sea. Cole's Bay abandoned mining cabins look untouched and you get a feeling of realness . Both you and Christoffer were good at pointing out interesting features: doors of leather to keep in the heat, the kitchen, heating of the water by a fire in a barrel to take a bath , old newspaper. What was very uncanny was the jacket still hanging up and the orange bed cover that I agree looked nice. Oh and the hand print on the wall eerie ! It was fascinating ! I would love to visit Svalbard during autumn to view the gorgeous pink and orange sky. Enjoy the autumn in Svalbard.
