I'm a crazy plantlady, according to my friends. So when I saw this, I knew I had to subscribe. Love the clear presentation and you have a vibrant personality. Gotta try me at least one pot of bulb lasagna, haha 😂
Hello from Ontario Canada Thankyou for the tutorial this is something that I can follow even here lol! Nice idea topping with winter plants much better I agree than bare soil. Ps we have many squirrels looking for a meal actually have a squirrel nest on my tree in front garden I can watch him or her from my bedroom window! Take care of yourself and your loved ones 🐝
Being from Canada I am always amazed at your weather and your gardening practices! After about the last week of October till the 3rd week of March there's not much I can do ! I like those terracotta pots...it add a very Victorian type of look to your garden....
Awe, grannies blossoms ( pansies and geraniums both most used annals going , just like grannies are the most needed and loved ) . Love your planting arrangements. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
I love Farmer Gracey’s plants. I’ve ordered my Spring bulbs for 2023 already ( If I’m spared 😂) The peonies I got from them are luscious . Your allotment is just gorgeous.
Hi. Yes squirrels do love bulbs. Funny story I planted most of my bulbs in containers when they were done blooming I put the bulbs on top of my storage box to dry and LOL within 2 days they had all been eaten I was amazed that the squirrels had devoured over a hundred bulbs in such a short time span. But at least I did have the blooms and they were beautiful. My all you can eat bulb buffet was a hit with the squirrels. Can't wait to see your bulbs come spring. Take care.
Oh no! The little rascals 😆 I learnt the hard way when a couple of years back I planted a hundred or so bulbs in my carrot bed. The squirrels dug them all up weeks before they were about to bloom, leaving me with a short green stem. I’ve also learnt not to keep them in the shed, in case the mice find them too! Haha
@@homegrowngarden Thanks but actually it was okay with me because they had finished blooming and I was just going to experiment to see if I could overwinter the tulip bulbs and regrow them for the following spring.
Good morning. I live in London. I have cheeky squirrels coming in my garden. But they have never dug up my bulbs. Mind you I do have two feisty cats... Thank you for this video. It has really helped Re planting spring 💡 bulbs. I thought I had left it to late.😅
Maybe I'll try next year to do bulb lasagna... this year I've planted some crocuses and will also do a handful of allium; a few tree lily and tulip; and squill next to the crocuses once the ground is cooler
Living in the mini state of Rhode Island . this chicken wire over bulbs its a great idea. squirrels dig up are bulbs all the time. i will try this over the holiday bulb planting.
Very nice job on the bulb planting, they will look beautiful come Spring, Speaking of Alliums! I have six bulbs in a big earthenware pot & they're already sprouting & around 4" tall. 😮 The seasons seem to be all mixed up at present!
Hi Katrina !! Thank you for sharing this lovely video! You inspired me to go get black parrot and Ballerina tulips from the garden centre! I used your technique to squirrel proof them too! Looking forward to seeing them bloom in spring!
Ahh yes the squi-rrels, I used this method when they took their knives and forks out and ate all my snowdrops, I used garden mesh instead though and tacked it down with fleece pegs.
Awesome young lady !!!! And I know to well.....i can't help over buying stuff...its an addiction for me 😊 I have already received 4 seed catalogs and thats early here in northern new York State........already have lots of things on my spring purchase list 🤗 Everyone have a great Thanksgiving !!!! Be safe !!!!
Speaking of springs getting increasingly warmer, I've been having trouble getting carrots to germinate. So in 2021, I am going to plant them 2 weeks earlier than traditional planting time. Planting early, one can always replant. planting late and one risks the season getting too dry.
I've just seen a tip to add chilli flakes to the top of pots planted up with bulbs to deter rodents...not like you'll have a shortage of them later in the year!
Very nice. Thank you very much. I live on the Belgian coast. planted also a lot of tulips in containers. I ve got drainage at the bottom, but still a bit worried about the rainy weather throughout the next months. I don t want the bulbs to get too wet ...rotting risk May I cover the top with plastic ? I mean put a kind of an umbrella at the top when it will rain too much and remove it if the weather is better . I would do this till February. What is your opinion ? Thank you. Kind regards, Marcus
Hi what lovely videos! I've just found your channel. I am a new allotment owner and I've found this very inspiring! Can I ask what you studied at uni? Was it plants? Also is your day job gardening related? I work in a garden centre but I'm finding the best teaching is hands on practical, success and failures 🙂 keep the videos coming please x
Thanks for this. I did my first ones last fall and put pansies and curly cabbage on top - pretty packed in on to, though. Should I thin these top pants to make it easier for the bulbs? I hear they will grow around other plants but the crocuses are so small. Thanks
I was in the kitchen listening to you and I heard you say Victoria Secret. I went, 'what?' 😮I was like why were you talking about the store? Dahhhh. 🤨 Didn't know there was a flower called Victoria Secret. 😂
Can I use ranunculus bulbs in a layered lasagna recipe? lol I would like tulips, daffodils, mini iris, crocus and ranunculus if at all possible. Definitely want to attempt one real soon. Also when I set these bulbs in a pot in December and give them as Christmas gifts do they need to be watered before I give them away or after they receive them.... This is all so confusing bc one video says you water them another says you don't so the bulbs don't rot. Please let me know! 💐 Sheree' 💐
@@homegrowngarden Just ordered some tête-à-tête narcissus and pride tulips 🌷from Farmer Gracey. Looking forward to a sensation of colour next spring 🌈🌷🌼
I'm about to go to war with the squirrels... I planted 400 tulip bulbs. I did do the chicken wire and cayene pepper. I still see holes everywhere when I come home from work... Hopefully I went deep enough yet not too deep.
Half videos I watch about bulb lasagna say don't water during winter, and the other half plant on top winter flowers. These flowers need water... Wouldn't that be bad for the bulbs underneath? 🤔
I planted bulb lasagne this year and failed miserably. I ended up moving my fabric pot to outside in january when the bulb started sprouting. I wanted to stop the sprout, but I think I ended up getting the bulbs frost damage. do u recommend keeping bulb pots ( fabric pot) inside an unheated garage? we are in zone 6

I leave them to grow through it

As long as your pliers are strong enough it’s easy! It’s a bit time consuming and repetitive but it doesn’t hurt ☺️

Nothing! Not all spring bulbs are reliably perennial and won’t always bloom the year after.
