She bounced out of the double twisting double layout like it was nothing!! And incredible double double to close! We are so fortunate to be able to watch the greatest gymnast of all time again!
A 6.6 difficulty... I can't even with this girl. She is unreal.

this double double dismount cemented the narrative of simone's comeback. she is upgrades literally almost every single element of her 2016 routines and even then the best is yet to come.

Nicole C I was curious about that. She had a 6.9 difficulty in 2016 and she added harder skills but has a 6.6 now...what happened?
Kelsey Dowd the COP changed so many skills have a different difficulty score
Margriet ten Heuw it’s not that all her skills have different difficulty values, there was a 0.5 requirement in the old code of points that required gymnasts to perform a D+ dismount. That was removed so now most routines on uneven bars, beam, and floor are about 0.5 lower than they would be in 2016.

Michele Nicole trust me, she was not upset with her floor. she was very very nervous tonight because everyone expected so much of her...simone did absolutely wonderful when it’s all said & done, she was just very nervous of the outcome of her comeback meet.
Love this girl! I can't wait until she shakes her comeback nerves off and starts looking like she's enjoying herself again! If she performs like this when she's nervous, she's going to be even more dominant when she gets her confidence back :)
It's amazing how she was able to delay the twisting until she was almost finished with the first flip.

Actually if she did the split connection it would get no cv because she already does a stag out of the Biles. She probably has it there for execution and perfectionism reasons
Jhilton 70 well Jade didn’t do her full difficulty either. Her full routine has her second pass as a full in double layout instead of the double layout she did yesterday, and her last pass as a front tuck to full in to split jump, which she didn’t do yesterday either
Does this routine have a lower potential score than her routine in Rio? Because Simone was scoring like 16.0 or high 15. Idk how scoring works.
Absolute brilliance. The best in the world by a mile. I do wish she'd just stick with the full twisting double layout though. The Moors is the most severely undervalued skill and not worth it. I'll never understand how the Silivas is worth 0.3 more than the full-twisting double tucked while the Moors is only worth 0.1 more than the Chusovitina...
she still overrotated it tho- if she just reigns in her landing, she's bound to get rid of any other issues that arise with attempting a Moors. imo she's clearly got enough power for a triple twisting double layout- doubt she'll put it in though

Really great job and a gigantic start value, even without the split jump and not getting credit for the switch 1/1. Even with the bounce, I still thought her execution was a tad underscored... she landed upright and controlled the other three passes. Why did she only get 0.2 off for both feet going OOB?

I’m new with how qualifications goes... are the rest of the final five not competing since they were not in the classics? Or are there other gymnastic events?
michelleandpatch well usually gymmasts who are coming back from rest or injuries can petition to join if they didnt compete in the qualifier which is this meet
And they can send videos of their skills and progress and see if they will get accepted to join the national team , such as mykayla maroney when she got a concussion and she petitioned after missing nationals 2012 and got accepted , but chellsie memmel also petitioned once in 2012 and didnt get accepted
And the rest of the final five may not even come back , laurie havent shown any readiness or willingness to compete, gabby probably hates gymnastics after rio , aly is busy fighting for justice and maddy retired
The gymnastics events this year are this secret classic , nationals and them worlds
So many good girls and only few spots for the olympics: Simone, Ragan, Morgan, Maile (+Riley, Emma Malabuyo...) are all great all arounders ; Jade is great on floor and vault..
It's going to be a tough decision ..
