Michael hates Toby because Toby settled for a divorce to solve his marriage problems. Michael doesn’t appreciate that since his parents did the same thing and it affected Michael negatively. It also explains why Michael was receptive towards Toby‘s daughter, cause he knows she’ll end up as the the one hurt the longest in her parents divorce.
Micheal is there at a huge crisis of making business relations via old style when he sees toby casually enjoying with cups and tea when micheal is in absolute mayhem 😂
Same here. It's hard to explain what makes it so hilarious. The best I can come up with is that everything vaguely odd that Toby says or does gets magnified and distorted in Michael's brain, as the most annoying thing ever. With Toby literally dressed up the way Michael envisions him (ie. a pretentious tool), it was almost too much for Michael to process the level of disgust he felt 😂
Paul Lieberstein (Toby) is a writer and co-producer of the Office. The Toby character is so passive, you wouldn't expect he had such a large role in the show's production.
I'm pretty sure the reason he's so soft spoken on camera is because Paul wasn't an actor so he wasn't really used to talking on camera and they had to repeatedly ask him to speak up
Sadly it didn't make it into the show but the blooper of Toby coming into Michael's office and Michael immediately says "Oh hi Toby can you close the door on your way out" had my in stitches
He has absolutely no good reason, but since the writers make him so friendly with mostly everyone else, because he wants to be loved by them, they need a character for Michael to unleash his inner negativity on. He has plenty of it too

It's because earlier in the episode Michael asks Dwight to get an original thought and not just agree with him on everything. In turn Dwight throws Michael under the bus for gifting Toby the rock.
They should've given Toby at least one scene where either people defend him from Michael or just he just does something about the abuse he's experiencing every day -_-
