Awesome congrats. Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath for the C8. Even if it came out in 2020, prices wouldn't be reasonable until 2021 at least. That's when I plan on swapping out my Z06 anyway.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Would you say the verdict is the same for the 2019 ZR1 in regards to the auto having shift delay? I really wish they had implemented the 10 speed from the 6th Gen ZL1 in the Z06 and ZR1 but unfortunately it was too big to fit in the C7.

I’ve had both. Manuel all the way! You really feel the power going through the gears and you get a sense of a true muscle car. BTW, this guy should be in a movie.
Great review, you are the first one to do a clear in depth review on the 8 speed auto. Always knew that the manual is faster than the auto in a roll race because of the 5th gear on the auto. The delays of the 8 speed auto are so annoying thats also very true.
I saw a review where the guy just tapped the gas in Auto mode, and the car immediately down-shifted. No need for the paddles, the car just knew it was time to race. But those red metallic paddles look really cool in this video.
@@BrisLS1 true in sport or track mode. Pedal wasnt tapped though, its all the way to the floor and off again within a second. A8 will drop to the lowest available gear and hold

I was in the market for an automatic and test driving rag tops vs hardtops to hear the wind noise level differences. The sales guy and i got in a manual by accident. I said let's drive it anyway. The rev match was way better with the stick and I felt like i was connected to the car! The rev match let's out unpredictable occasional roars that makes the experience awesome! I had the 8 speed automatic first, but it would overheat at the track. Switched to a 2017 Z06 w/ 7 speed and it’s a world of difference! No overheating and much more fun going through the gears.

Well done on the video. When I finally get my z06, I’m definitely going with manual. Not going to daily drive it much, not racing, just looking for pure backroad pleasure. First two vehicles of my life and for 9 years, I drove 4-banger manuals. Been in autos for 15 years now. I miss the manual!

Dramatic and informative with excellent video/audio qualities. I am waiting for my second Z06 a C7 Z07 M7 to be delivered. Your efforts I commend. Thanks so much.

I own a C7 Z06 manual and my thoughts are if you want a drag car for the 1/4 mile buy a auto but if you want a bad ass street car that’s a blast to drive buy a manual. Personally I’ve got to have a manual. I’m really pissed Chevy isn’t offering a manual in the C8. I guess I’m going to have to adapt. I sure hope the C8 doesn’t have that soggy shift delay.
I will take a manual any day because it makes the driving experience fun and makes me want to drive the way it was designed, imo. You get more joy out of a manual, especially for a true car enthusiast.
I'm getting older. I will be 56 in August 2023. I just bought (May 2023) a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, automatic in Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic. I have owned a 1988 Z51 and a 1991 ZR-1 both with standard transmissions. I liked rowing the gears. Now at my age, I am just fine with an automatic. Thanks for the video!
Great video! I went through this debate as well....I drove both...and saw some of the limitations of both...but I went with the manual and have zero regrets as I've never had an auto and don't really spend much time in traffic. As you said with the auto on the track shifting early, you're still faster than virtually everyone else on the street with the manual. My 2019 Z06 M7 does burble though...and once in a while it has a nice bark on those downshifts, too! :-) Maybe not quite as much as your one shot in the video, but I do get some nice burbling...seems they may have changed something in the latest cars to increase some of that as some others have reported the same thing. I love it!!!! Enjoy that beautiful Z!!!
Thanks and congrats! The M7 does sound amazing when you do the rev match downshifts. It's interesting that you say that about the 2019 updates. I also heard from a few other owners that the 19's changed some things in terms of the tune or programming of the car. Enjoy!
Great video. Well presented and fair on both sides. I have a '17 Z06/07 with the A8. I don't have access to a track up here in Canada, so tracking the car isn't an option, and overheating isn't an issue. The delay in the shifting has annoyed me, but here's the catch....... I just bought an '18 NSX with a 9 speed dual clutch transmission bespoke to the NSX.....guess what? I leave it in auto all the time....... I've been a manual guy all my life, coming from an S2000......then an '08 STi...........both of which I still own............and lastly a Gen V Viper GTS which I traded in on the NSX. I have to say, I can see why autos are so popular. I used to scoff at automatic transmissions or anything with paddle shifters. Now I can see the advantage. With cars like the NSX, and my Z06/07, they are so freakin' powerful it takes all your concentration to get the most out of them. It is so much better to just mash your foot to the floor and let the car take car of the shifting while you hold onto the wheel and concentrate on the steering, gas, and brake. I get it now. I love my S2000 and STi, but whenever I get in them, I find that the whole "rowing my own gears" argument is getting weaker and weaker..................
It's true, that's a point I've been thinking about for a while and it's just that cars today, especially the really fast supercars are just way too overpowered to pair with a manual. You simply cannot concentrate on harnessing all that power effectively while trying to row your own gears. If it was a lower powered car for the enjoyment of driving, I have no qualms and obviously, I'd prefer to have a manual, but for 550HP and above cars, it becomes less and less practical.
Great vid...unfortunately I think you're right the manual will eventually die and when it does the pure driving experience will also...I feel way more connected with the car with a manual.
Great video. I remember Viper fans loved it, but a big reason Viper is no more, is because it lacked an automatic option. You can’t ignore that segment of market. Hope Corvette always gives us manual and automatic side by side.
Unfortunately they don’t anymore. It’s clear the modern auto is quicker in the dual clutch C8. But the manual C7 Z06 was the better track/ Nurburgring racer over the auto. But it’s slower quarter mile.
The viper was a handful, more like 2 handfuls compared to any manual Corvette. The viper shared similar horsepower with the Z06 at the end of its production. The Viper was unpredictable, the same is not true of the 7 speed Z06 with more horsepower. It's a drivers car.
Great production👍🏻 I like the auto for similar reasons but you’re right. That wall you hit when shifting at rev limiter can be extremely annoying. It took me sometime to get it but eventually I was able to time them perfectly. Otherwise I’m ok with the last shifts around town. I’m sure with the c8 being a dct people will find something to complain about it. Great video!

It would be logical to have one manual C6 and one automatic C7, but... if you own two manuals... you are the man
This is awesome. One of the best videos I've seen on this topic in a long time.
Thank you for your well made video. Informative, and classy!
If you want crazy aggressive downshifts go for the manual.
The auto doesn‘t revmatch what sounds so nice on the manual and all PDK and other dual clutch transmissions
That was a pretty good comprehensive understanding, one is suited for more things than the other, but it compensates for what the other doesn't have good video bro! 🤔👏👏👏👏
Bro this is was one of the best reviews I've ever seen hands down!!! I just subscribed 😎
